I have to say sorry, for my moment of complete stupidity. I accidently compiled the old version. I have now corrected this mistake and the MrModem update is now uploaded as 0.55a.
lesson learnt, i will keep old and new source in different places.
Heres what was new for 0.55
V0.55 - MrModem Update
- Added some more Joystick mapping options. You can now use any button to control Amiga joystick 0.
- Changed all sceCtrlReadBufferPositive to sceCtrlPeekBufferPositive. This should speed things up a little, because sceCtrlReadBufferPositive always waits for vsync.
- Fixed a "bug" that caused the PSP to crash if you tried to exit using the home button.
- Added Bilinear filtering when zoom is turned on.

Sony has announced a brand new PSP bundle set to launch this Christmas but only US gamers will benefit from the PSP Entertainment Pack, Sony has confirmed.
The new pack features a copy of ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, the Lords of Dogtown movie on UMD and a whopping 1GB memory stick - all for $250 (roughly £133). However, a Sony spokesman has informed us that the pack will not be released in the UK.
With the contents worth around $50 more than the $250 asking price, it's clear that the pack is worth the cash - so why aren't we getting it? Our contact couldn't shed any light on the reasons behind the decision, and informed us that Sony doesn't have any immediate plans for similarly good-value UK bundle packs.
You would think that with PS3 delayed until March, Sony would want to keep the PlayStation flag flying this Christmas, and a well-priced PSP bundle might even have challenged Microsoft to consider dropping the price of Xbox 360. Well, maybe. As it is, chalk up another reason why this will be a Great British Christmas that Sony will want to forget as soon as possible.

New York Final Fantasy fans readying that Tifa Lockhart cosplay outfit for Halloween may want to stitch a bit faster. Though the anticipated role-playing game Final Fantasy XII is set for release on October 31 in North America, Square Enix is giving fans a peek at the game a few weeks early.
The PlayStation 2 game will be playable at DigitalLife, a consumer electronics show that takes place in New York City between October 12 and October 15. Unlike the build available at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the version of Final Fantasy XII appearing at DigitalLife will be the final, retail version.
To celebrate the launch of the game, which received a perfect score from Famitsu when it was released in Japan, New York City has declared October 11 Final Fantasy XII Day and will hold a special commemoration in Times Square. Part of the festivities will include a Final Fantasy costume contest, with winners joining Square Enix in New York on FFXII Day. Square Enix promises more information on the contest on its Web site.
Final Fantasy XII is rated T for Teen and will retail for $49.99.

In a presentation at the Merril Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference this morning, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Warren Jenson talked to investors about the changing face of the game industry and how EA intends to position itself to succeed in the future.
Jenson laid out five changes in the industry that EA is looking to adapt to: increased online connectivity, more mobile gaming (including cell-phone gaming, handhelds, and now iPods), growth in user-generated content, the increasingly global development marketplace, and the transition to next-gen consoles.
In a postpresentation Q&A session, Jenson was asked to give an update on how the publisher's PlayStation 3 launch titles were shaping up relative to its Xbox 360 launch efforts from last year.
"We feel real good about where we are," Jenson said. "Relative to where we were with the Xbox [360], we're further along, but we're developing for a more complicated machine." Jenson's comments were likely in reference to the PlayStation 3's powerful central Cell processor, codeveloped by IBM and Toshiba, and its RSX graphics chip, designed by Nvidia.
Jenson isn't the only one feeling good about where EA is in regards to the PS3 launch. In a report on the industry's holiday outlook today, UBS Investments Research analyst Michael Wallace said the publisher was better suited to take advantage of the PS3 launch than its competitors.
"Of all the third parties, EA will have the most exposure to the PS3 launch in terms of its number of titles available," Wallace said, "but we feel it would be hurt less from a PS3 shortfall than other companies (i.e., Activision) would be, given that EA will have a more balanced lineup targeting both current-generation and next-generation platforms over the next two quarters."

Via Joystiq, an article on Gaming Horizon defending the PS3 from its detractors. The article looks at a number of the biggest concerns about the system (price, HD, rumble, blu-ray), and attempts to explain why most of these problems are nothing to worry about. From the article:
"As Sony is a company that manufactures HD-TVs, it's in their interest to add that compatibility to give consumers another reason to upgrade. There's various numbers about how long it'll take for HD to 'replace' standard-feed televisions (just as broadband has all but eliminated dial-up), but it's conceivable that HD televisions will become affordable during the PS3's lifecycle, and for those of us that have been blessed by the high-def gods, it's another reason to take advantage of the highest-quality visual equipment available."

News from Lik Sang
Nearly two years ago Ridge Racers was there on the starting line of the PSP launch, and sales shot off like a Rally X car on nitros! This week the sequel slides onto the scene, and under the bonnet it's packing more tracks than any Ridge Racer game ever before on any console. 18 of the 42 courses are taken from the past, ranging from the very first title 13 years ago to Ridge Racer Type 4. None of these were in the original PSP release either. There's also six classes of cars again, plus secret vehicles such as the Pac-Man car and the Digdug Hijack from Ridge Racer 6 on the Xbox 360, plus two special classes to race towards.
Past Single Race, World Tours, Time Attack and intense 8 player wireless battles, here there's now Arcade, Duel and Survival modes, the latter dropping last place off as you go around the track, and Duel being a one on one race where it's either first place or nothing. In true classic Namco fashion you could enjoy Rally X while the original was loading, or later unlock the sequel New Rally X, but now the follow-up is there from the get go. A sure fire hit and a nitro boost for your adrenaline, Ridge Racers 2 arrives this week, and with the region free capabilities of the PSP, there's no reason why you can't hop in right now and take your new wheels for a spin.

Evolution Studios' mud-plugging desert-racer MotorStorm was one of the titles accused of caught up in the smoke-and-mirrors row surrounding the PS3 at E3 2005, but recently -- most notably in video shown at the Leipzig Games Convention -- it has been looking stunning. And here are the screenshots to prove it.
MotorStorm is almost certain to be a PlayStation 3 launch title -- and one of the most desirable ones at that. As will, doubtless, be confirmed at the Tokyo Games Show next week. In the meantime, feast your eyes on these visuals.

It's time for another slice of GTA Vice City Stories on PSP courtesy of new trailers viewable right here, right now.
A Vice City prequel, Stories on PSP shoves you into the shoes of US soldier Victor Vance, brother to Lance Vance who appeared in VC on PS2. Due in November, the title retains the sandbox gameplay the GTA series is famed for while also chucking in plenty of new stuff and apparently managing to far outshine Liberty City Stories on Sony's handheld.
Enjoy the new trailers which show trailer trash in action and the military muscle you'll enjoy in the game!

It will definitely run the online aspect of Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, but will it take on a wider role?
Speculation that a console version of PC online gaming service Xfire will be integrated into the PlayStation 3 Online Service - after parent company Viacom appeared to reveal precisely that in its Q2 financial report - has sparked a welter of denials, although both Sony and Xfire admit that a version of the latter is being developed for the PS3's Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.
1Up managed to acquire a transcript of Viacom's Q2 earnings report conference call (how deliciously American), in which president and CEO Tom Freston said: "Importantly, Xfire just signed a deal with Sony to create a version of their platform for the new PS3, which will now enable Xfire to extend its reach further into the huge console gaming market." This led to speculation that a PS3 Xfire client would handle responsibility for messaging, matchmaking, patching, stats profiling and so on - all services that the PC client offers.
But a torrent of denials soon followed. Sony Online Entertainment's Chris Kramer said: "SOE has been in talks with Xfire about potentially including some of their technology in Untold Legends Dark Kingdom, our PlayStation 3 launch title. This proposed deal is completely separate and independent from the PlayStation Network Platform, and is something that SOE was examining specifically for Dark Kingdom."
Xfire CEO Mike Cassidy chipped in with: "Xfire is not part of the PlayStation Network Platform. We are in discussions with Sony Online Entertainment, but I cannot comment any further."
Doth they protest too much wethinks? It would make sense for Sony to have a unified matchmaking and general online gaming service with a consistent interface, and Xfire is highly regarded for its ease of use and approachability. Sony, bidding to make maximum impact at next week's Tokyo Games Show, is currently loath to announce anything, so it will be interesting to see what it says about the PS3 Online Service and Xfire at TGS.

Robert A. and Percival have just released the second homebrew game for 2.70-2.80 firmwares (technically compatible with all firmwares 2.0-2.80). TIFF Pong, as it's called, is a simple homebrew Pong game, which utilizes the TIFF exploit in conjunction with the just-released 2.70-2.80 SDK developed by Noobz. Many remember the time when the GTA exploit was at the stage that the current TIFF exploit is now: eLoader-less.

News from Fanjita and Ditlew:
Well, here it is, the first non-flash homebrew game for v2.70-v2.80. It's that old favourite, Tetris! Now that might seem exciting. But it's not all.
This Tetris was built with our other new announcement of today - a mini-SDK for programming simple homebrew on 2.0 - 2.80. Which means that the door is open for more simple homebrew applications to be written for 2.70-2.80.
Full instructions are included in the SDK, that should allow experienced PSP coders to develop their own TIFF-based programs.
Please be aware that this is a restricted environment, due to the extra security in 2.70+. The README.TXT in the SDK explains the implications, but basically the number of available system calls is limited, so only fairly simple programs can be made.
We will follow up with a more fully-featured eLoader in the future, but for now, we thought it would be nice to release this so that 2.70+ users would have something to do while they wait!

AHman has released the Final Version of his amazing shell for the PSP, heres the news
iR Shell 2.2 Final is released. The is the final release of iR Shell and thank you for everyone's support. I hope all of you enjoy using iR Shell as much as I enjoyed developing it. Goodbye!
Heres the full release info
Version 2.2 Final Updates:
==========================
New Features:
1. The Homebrew directory can be customized under iR Configurator. You can change it from original /PSP/GAME to anything you like. Pls note if you relocate the homebrew directory, XMB won't be able to launch them.
2. You can now organize your homebrews into various sub-folders, such as:
Emulators
Games
General Utilities
WiFi Applications
This will help to organize your homebrews and make it easier to locate a specific one easier. It also helps to speed up the APP view. The sub-folder must be in the syntax of "$name$". The 2 dollar signs are used to signify this is a folder which contains various homebrews.
3. The File Manipulation has been updated for the APP view, so that you can create, rename, delete directories as usual. Pls note when you create directory under APP view, you don't need to put dollar signs and the system will add them automatically.
4. A new PMP Mod AVC 1.02M plugin by Magelo is included. In order to avoid conflicts with the original PMP Mod 2.02. This new AVC plugin will use extension name "AVC" which means you'll have to rename your pmp avc files to name.avc. The original PMP movie files will still be name.pmp.
5. A new beautiful skin "Vista Clarity" by PSPHax0r9.
Bug Fixes:
- Fix a bug which cause the inability to launch a 1.5 UMD game from iR Shell.
- There was a bug in the previous public release which caused "hide splash screen" under iR Configurator not working. It's now fixed.
- A log file "debug.txt" in the root directory has been accidentally left in the previous public release. You can manually remove it.
Special Thanks:
Finally, I would like to thank you for all your support, especially those that has actively contributed to the project, like AnonymousTipster for his Zip & Rar plugins and redesigned the iR Shell website. Various beta testers for their valuable suggestions and stress testing to make iR Shell as stable as it is now. StoneCut being my favroite and professional tester. His test reports are really impressive and well written. Sometimes it makes me wonder whether he spends more time in writing the reports than the time I spend in development. StoneCut is also very dedicated in helping moderate the forum and help out newbies. Torpie13 for his generous donation for the www.irshell.com domain and free T3 hosting service. All those talented graphics artists, including Triable, Skydew, Terdinglage, Numeror, PSPHax0r9 and other skin makers for giving iR Shell a face lift from the original dull looking interface. And also different plugin makers and their original authors to make full use of the iR Shell plugin system. Their contributions are highly appreciated.

Heres an excerpt
The original Exit title was a solid title for the PSP system, especially considering it's an original title, something that any system needs to stay successful. Taito, makers of classics like Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble and Cooking Mama (sorry, I had to throw that one in) now have a new mascot character in Mr. ESC. This time around, the man with the cool hat and scarf returns in Kangaeru Exit (Thinking Exit), an update to the original title that was released last year.
The premise of the game still remains the same; as Mr. Exit, you have to rescue all of the stranded victims in a stage. Like the first title, these victims come in all shapes and sizes, and there are two new characters: a big burly man that can push around obstacles that Mr. Exit can't, and a dog that can go through small crevices to retrieve items. Likewise, spread through each stage are items that allow you to overcome all of the challenges in each stage. We got through the first thirty stages of the game, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything that's actually new in the game. All of the items are from the first game, and the same goes for the people that you need to save. There are new items to be found though. Abseil ropes, barrels, floating buoys, and one way doors add to the challenge of the game. The game is also quite harder than the original. The puzzles at the beginning of each world are fairly simple, but once you reach the midway point, they become difficult enough that it'll take you several times to finish them, not to mention getting the fastest time possible. In many of the later stages multitasking between you and your partners is essential to get out of the stage quickly. Overall there are 100 stages available in the game, with the first fifty open from the start. The latter part is only unlocked once you have finished the rest of the stages.
