The 2014 BMW M4 Coupé is slated for public release in June of next year, but thanks to the car industry connections of Polyphony Digital, you can drive the thing right this very minute from the convenience of Gran Turismo 6.
But wait, wasn't the M4 only being officially debuted two days ago? It was, but like we mentioned, Polyphony has deep connections. Instead of waiting for production models to roll off the line, Polyphony's engineers were given early access to the BMW M4 Coupé during its initial concept car phase so that they could ensure the in-game version would feature the series' trademark attention to detail. As a result, the M4 found in Gran Turismo 6 should be the closest thing to owning a real one many of us will ever see - especially given the car's nearly $92,000 suggested retail price.
To celebrate the virtual launch of the M4 Coupé, Gran Turismo 6 is hosting a Seasonal Event from now until December 26 that pits M4 drivers against one another for the fastest time through the Nürburgring Grand Prix track. This is mainly an effort to introduce people to the car's quirks on one of the world's most famous courses, but there's also bragging rights at stake here.
The best news to emerge from this announcement is the virtual car's price. Instead of shelling out real-world cash to download the M4 into your copy ofGran Turismo 6, it's already there. Fire up your game, take a look at the BMW section of the car showroom, and you'll now find the 2014 BMW M4 Coupé, ready to be driven by the first racer with enough cash to afford its upper-middle class accoutrements.

NIS America has set a date for its upcoming European launch of Falcom's PlayStation Vita action-RPG Ys: Memories of Celceta, announcing that the game will hit store shelves on February 21. A digital release via PSN will follow on February 25.
Memories of Celceta reached North American shores last month, marking the long-running series' first appearance on the Vita. A Silver Anniversary Editionaccompanied the launch, offering up a soundtrack collection and other bonus trinkets.
While many Ys games never saw an official release outside of Japan, dedicated fans have localized many previously-untranslated sequels in recent years. Following the release of a translation patch for Ys 5 earlier this month, every core series entry is now localized and accessible for English-speaking fans.

The less-than-coordinated of us know that navigating spaces can at times be harder than it looks. As often as we may stumble, Furmins have it one step harder - they're just limbless balls of fur waiting on an omniscient power to guide them to their destinations. Their puzzle-oriented plight is lining up a pathway from iOS devices to Vitas on December 17.
Compared to Resogun, Furmins is a less explosive effort from developer Housemarque that makes a puzzle out of the journey from Point A to Point B. Players construct potential solutions for any given level in Furmins' Setup mode, which pauses the environment to allow for a path to be constructed out of objects. Once a solution is ready, switching to the Action mode lets the scenario play out, resulting in glory or a return to the phase of blueprints. If you're feeling particularly crafty, you can build with the bits of candy strewn across levels in mind.
The PlayStation Blog notes that Furmins has "100+ unique levels," but it does not suggest a price. The iOS version, Furmins HD, is currently $2.99 on the App Store, but you can try the first world of Furmins Free at no charge.

[Mori] wanted to use his keyboard and mouse to play his favorite games on the PS4, so he decided to modify his Dualshock4 controller to feed it custom input signals.
In the heart of this build is an STM32F407 discovery board, which is connected to a USB hub. To perform this hack, [Mori] tore open the Dualshock4 controller to find the PCB traces coming from the sticks and buttons. He then used the STM32F407 and 2 Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) to create similar signals. Unfortunately for us, [Mori] only released the schematics but not the firmware. Our guess is that he had to configure the microcontroller as a USB host, enumerate the mouse/keyboard, parse the HID reports and feed the controller the corresponding inputs.
We embedded a video of the hack in action after the break. If you own a PS4, you may also want to see how to disable the Dualshock LEDs.

The relatively small number of AAA launch titles is giving early indie games a chance to capture their own PS4 fanbases
Free-to-play games have walked a difficult line on PC and mobile devices. On the one hand, they’re a positive extension of the demo concept of yore – a chance for players to try out a new title without having to stump up cash for something which may, ultimately, disappoint. On the other, some publishers have come under fire for artificially padding their games with XP grinding, with progression technically possible through play alone, but games tacitly encouraging players to speed their advancement through micro-transactions. ‘Free-to-play’ has become synonymous for many with ‘fee-to-pay’, and while games like Hawken and League of Legends show how to do it right, you only need to flick through the Apple and Android ‘Free’ Games sections for examples of titles that are more money hungry than they first let on.Now, free-to-play has come to PS4, with games like Digital Extremes’ Warframe and Gaijin’s War Thunder (no relation) available to players through the PSN Store. And with comparatively few offerings available to PS4 players at launch, they’re not just the vanguard of the free-to-play model, but also champions of Sony’s much vaunted indie focus. Is the PS4′s audience ready for an avalanche of independent, middle-budget titles? The answer, if the first few weeks’ reception is anything to go by, seems to be that they are.“I hate to sound like a shill,” says Digital Extremes’ Steve Sinclair, “but Warframe definitely [surpassed expectations], especially considering how early we are. Now the pressure is on to really bang out the updates and growth on PS4 and make sure those players feel part of the larger Warframe whole. We don’t want them thinking they’re sitting at the kids table – they deserve more.”

Now it will launch at some undetermined time in 2014."In order to bring the best possible game to the market at the best possible time we have decided to move the date into 2014," read an update on the game's Facebook page."We are working to get the game to all markets simultaneously and will advise as soon as we can of an exact release date once it is known."Could we be in for a repeat of the disaster that was the launch of Ashes Cricket 2013 - a game that was cancelled after it released because it was so terrible?Don Bradman Cricket 14 is developed by Australian studio Big Ant and is due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. December 13th, 2013, 20:33 Posted By: wraggster
Amnesia developer Frictional Games has released a new trailer for SOMA, its next horror game due out in 2015 for PC and PlayStation 4.The video, below, shows off an environment captured directly from within the game. To coincide with the release the Swedish developer published a blog post revealing detail on its design philosophy for the game."We want the player to constantly feel as if they are inside a flowing narrative," designer Thomas Grip wrote."It is so common that a game is distinctly split into story and puzzle/action moments. We want to blur the boundaries here and make it impossible to distinguish between the two. Whatever the player does it should feel as if it is part of the story. We do not want to have sections that simply feel like blockers to the next narrative moment. From start to finish the player should be drenched in a living, breathing world of storytelling."A good example is how we design puzzles. Instead of having the puzzle by itself, as a separate activity, it always springs from and is connected to some aspect of the story. For instance, if the player encounters a locked door, there are more reasons for getting it open than simply to progress. There are always short term narrative reasons and rewards for getting it unlocked. On top of this, the very act of solving it results in the player taking part of a narrative scene."Encounters with hostile beings are handled in the same way. A creature will never attack you without good reason; they never do it out of pure gameplay necessity. We want every encounter to feel like a bit of storytelling is happening. To get this working properly, almost every single creature has unique AI."http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...s4-horror-game
Then there's a note on thematics."SOMA is meant to explore deep subjects such as consciousness and the nature of existence," Grip continued."We could have done this with cutscenes and long conversations, but we chose not to. We want players to become immersed in these thematics, and the discussions to emerge from within themselves."It feels wrong to just shove information down the player's throat. What I find so exciting about having these thematics in a game is that the player is an active participant. There are plenty of books and movies that cover these sort of subjects, but video games provide a personal involvement that other mediums lack. We want to explore this to the fullest degree"Just like all of the other design goals, there is a bit of risk in this. It requires the player to approach the game in a certain way and it will be impossible to make it work for everyone. But for those people where it succeeds, it will be a much more profound experience. I also find that it is when you are dealing with uncertainties that you are doing the most with the medium, and am extremely excited to see how far it will take us."

First wave of educational institutions on board to receive Sony’s new console
Five European universities have signed up to be among the first educational institutions to receive PlayStation 4 development kits.
Birmingham City University – Gamer Camp, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Abertay Dundee, NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands and Playground Squad in Sweden will all be incorporating PS4 development tools as key teaching elements within their games courses.
The partnership kicks off the first stage of SCEE’s plans to make PS4 hardware available to its university partners in 2014 as part of the PlayStation First licensing programme.
PS4 dev kits will be available as a follow-on licensing programme to university members registered on the PlayStation Vita dev kit programme. PlayStation First is currently seeking to hear from universities interested in PS Vita game development.
Interested parties should email PlayStation First: applications@ps-edu.scedev.net
“We want the next generation of developers to have the skills that our industry needs. The next generation of PlayStation developers are in education right now, and getting students working on PS4 and PS Vita means we’ll have graduates who can hit the ground running when they enter our studios,” explained Luke Savage, academic development manager for SCEE.
Shahid Ahmad, senior business development manager at SCEE added: “Given that there are more developers than ever before, we want to intensify our outreach and support to this community. PlayStation First is at the forefront of bringing new developers to PlayStation. It’s student developers that will influence the future of video games on our platforms, and we’re delighted to support their growing ambitions.”
The release of PS4 development kits is the latest initiative of PlayStation First, which establishes partnerships with university courses to foster the “next generation of PlayStation-savvy developers”.
Sony Computer Entertainment has previously helped support universities by offering PS3 dev kits as well as working closely with local developer networks.
Earlier this year, Develop looked at how PS4 and Xbox One might affect games education.

The adorably addictive Bit.Trip pseudo-series of technicolor games is expanding again with word that the sequel to Bit.Trip Runner will make its Vita handheld debut on December 17.
Officially titled "Bit.Trip Presents ... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien,"Runner2 is a game in which your character runs, constantly and with no regard for his or her personal safety. It's your job as the player to use a few simple maneuvers (jumping and sliding, for example) to ensure that your on-screen pal doesn't meet a grisly death by dashing off the side of a cliff or sprinting into something sharp. It's a simple formula, but as the cult success of Bit.Trip Runner and the console iterations of Runner2 demonstrate, it's also incredibly addictive.
The Vita version of Runner2 is said to be identical to its console counterparts, right down to its DLC offerings. The Good Friends Character Pack DLC (an addition that allows you to play as the protagonists of Psychonauts, Spelunkyand other esoteric hits) will be available alongside Runner2 when it launches on December 17.
On debut, the game will set you back $10 on the PlayStation Network Store, while the DLC is priced at $3. PlayStation Plus subscribers can expect a discount on both, with the game being reduced to $8 and the DLC to $2.09.

Sony continues its PS Mobile promotion with another pair of free downloads today. If you have a PlayStation Certified device or PS Vita, you can grab Super Crate Box and Fuel Tiracas for free right now.
Super Crate Box, from Vlambeer, is an arcade action game where players must battle waves of encroaching enemies while collecting crates – which have weapons inside of them – on a multi-tiered 2D level. We found the PS Vita installment to be the definitive version.
Fuel Tiracas, a PS Mobile launch game from FutureLab, is a resource-management puzzle variation on the classic Whac-a-Mole carnival game. Players must boot up generators in the correct order so the titular planet of Tiracas can have breathable air.
To grab either (or both) of these games, simply head into the PlayStatin Mobile section of the PlayStation Store on PS Vita or, if you're on a PlayStation Certified device, simply head into the PlayStation Mobile store.

A new Sony patent was published earlier this week detailing a controller that looks like a cross between your TV's remote and Sony's underloved Move controller.
Dubbed "Flat Joystick Controller" for the purposes of the patent filing, the device is described as having a Move-like ball attached to its end, a small complement of buttons on its handle and a touchscreen that "provides an area for receiving directionality control in response to interfacing by a finger of a user." Translation: The touchscreen doubles as a joystick for games that require directional input.
With the Move already in existence, why create another, very similar device? Sony's summary explains: "Broadly speaking, the present invention allows for three-dimensional with a multi-positional controller. The multi-positional controller enables control for a variety of applications and simulations while providing an intuitive interface to interact in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional renderings of the computer programs being executed through a game client."
This being a patent, there's no telling when or if this Flat Joystick Controller will ever be released to retail, or for that matter, what name Sony will choose to replace "Flat Joystick Controller." Whatever happens, it's clear that motion control is key in the minds of Sony's engineers. Expect many more years of flailing your arms at and near expensive electronics.

Sony released the latest PlayStation 4 system update this morning, and apparently it's a rather minor one. Habitual followers of the firmware scene will be au fait with the words "system software stability," which the 1.52 firmware is said to improve.
We'll be looking see if there's any more to it than that, but in the meantime you can check out the update for yourself: You can manually download it via the PS4's Settings menu, or grab it and future updates automatically by enabling Automatic Uploads and Downloads.

This is Deal 6 of PlayStation Europe's 12 Deals of Christmas, practically the halfway point in essentially a December's worth of PSN savings. Today's is a good one for those who missed out on Velocity Ultra when it was on PlayStation Plus. The puzzler/shoot-em-up hybrid is down to £2.39 (€3/AU$4.35) on Vita, and stays at that price across today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the super-crazy but super-good Saints Row 4 plummets from its lofty PSN price of £50 to the much more affordable figure of £20 (€30/AU$340) - it's also staying discounted for 48 hours. If you're looking to shave off some more savings, a PlayStation Plus subscription razors a further 10 percent on both games.

Baird Equity Research’s Colin Sebastian has claimed that sales of PS4 and Xbox One are neck-and-neck.
Microsoft just announced global sales of 2m units for Xbox One throughout the machine’s first 18 days.
That’s roughly the same as PS4’s sales throughout its first 18 days, although it was only available in North America for its first two weeks.
“While many industry forecasts expected Sony’s PS4 to establish an early lead over Xbox One, we continue to expect relatively balanced sales by the end of the launch window,” Sebastian added.
“We note that PS4 tends to see more demand at specialty retail (core gamer focus) with the Xbox One getting a higher profile at big box retailers.”
“As such, we believe each platform is on track to meet our high-end sales forecast of 3m units by the end of 2013, and 5-6m units cumulatively by the end of Q1.”
Sebastian goes on to predict that NPD will tomorrow announce November sales of 1.3-1.4m for PS4 in the US and 800-900k for Xbox One, which came out a week later in the territory.
General sales trends from other data, however, tend to suggest that PS4 sales are tracking 66 per cent ahead of Xbox One.
