The first TV spot for PS4 has gone live in Japan.
The short, which can be seen below, somewhat cruelly includes highlights from the console’s many overseas launches.
Sony unusually chose to roll out its machine in Europe and America before launching it in its homeland. PS4 won’t arrive in Japan until February 22nd.
Xbox One, meanwhile, is yet to receive a Japanese launch date.

Worldwide PS4 sales will reach 37.7 million units by the end of 2016, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has forecast.
During the same period, Pachter expects Xbox One sales to total 29 million units.
The analyst said in a research note sent to investors on Thursday: "We expect Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles to thrive over the next three years, with cumulative worldwide sales of 37.7 million PS4 and 29 million Xbox One consoles by year-end 2016. We do not expect Nintendo's Wii U to fare as well, with cumulative sales of under 20 million by 2016."
In November, IHS head of games research Piers Harding-Rolls forecast that PS4 sales will comfortably outpace Xbox One sales over the next four years. The analyst anticipates 49 million PS4 sales by the end of 2017, compared to 38 million Xbox One sales.
Harding-Rolls said: "IHS believes that Sony's wider geographical brand allegiance - especially across continental Europe and Japan - will be decisive in allowing PS4 to outsell Xbox One on a global basis by the end of 2017."
PS4 launched on November 15, 2013 and Xbox One on November 22. Sony reported 2.1 million PS4 sales on December 3, while Microsoft reported two million Xbox One sales on December 11.
Having launched in November 2012, global Wii U sales totalled 3.91 million units as of September 30, 2013.

A newly published Sony patent reveals that the company has considered the possibility of introducing methods to add new content to classic games streamed via the cloud.
Filed last year and published this week (via NeoGAF), the patent in question is entitled 'Suspending State of Cloud-Based Legacy Applications'. It reads:
"Among other things, this application describes a method and apparatus for emulating a video game that includes generating snapshots that can be used for incorporating new content into the emulated video games."
Sony says that offering new ways to play pre-existing games can increase the longevity of said titles.
"Instead of replaying the same level or completing the same missions repeatedly, gamers often desire new challenges when replaying legacy games. In response to this need, game designers have begun to produce mini-games.
"Within a mini-game, the gamer can be instructed to complete new objectives or challenge their friends for high scores in a format that was not originally designed into the legacy game.
"Further, since the mini-game is derived from a legacy game, the gamer already knows the characters and basic components of the game, and is therefore more likely to play the mini-game."
The patent goes on to describe how developers would go about adding new content to their games:
A section [0017] In order to create mini-games without reverse engineering and recoding a game designer may rely on the use of triggers and snapshots to provide information needed for the mini-games without having to dig into the code of the legacy game. Triggers are further described in commonly assigned co-pending application Ser. No. 61/666,628 (Attorney Docket Number SCEA12004US00) filed the same day as the present application and entitled "DETERMINING TRIGGERS FOR CLOUD-BASED EMULATED GAMES".
The mini-games may be made by providing an emulator with game inputs that bring the emulated game to a certain point where the mini-game will begin. A snapshot may be generated according to aspects of the present disclosure and that point may be used as the used as the starting point in the future mini-game. Thereafter, triggers may be generated in order to provide new experiences for the game. Game designers may then develop a script and combine it with the snapshot and triggers to produce the mini-game. Therefore, in order to design mini-games in this manner, there is a need in the art for a method of quickly generating snapshots. Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that cloud gaming network Gaikai will launch in North America this year, ahead of an expected European release in 2015. A number of PS3 games will be available to play on PS4 via Gaikai.

Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki has noted that his upcoming third-person shooter The Devil's Third is still slated to come out later this year, despite its troubled development."Next year will be the year we'll be releasing the console game, Devil's Third," Itagaki said in an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer (translated via Siliconera). "At the moment, it is about 80 per cent complete, and we can about see the end of it. However, there's still a little more polishing that needs to be done. That's also one of the reasons I've decided to work independently.""For you fans out there, I'd like to apologise for making you worry," he added. "We'll be going all out next year, so please look forward to it."The Devil's Third was first announced in 2009, but in July 2012 its then publisher THQ dropped the title from its line-up before going out of business itself the following year. Furthermore, the middleware team supplying the game's engine went out of business, causing developer Valhalla Studios to switch engines. As of last summer, the game's budget was nearing the £2.5 million mark.Last we checked, Combat Arms developer Doobic Game Studios had joined Valhalla in a joint venture to bring the game to PC and tablets in addition to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

A group of dedicated fans have created an English language patch for the Japan-only PSP tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles 3.While the game was well-received in its native Japan, series publisher Sega refused to bring it to the west following disappointing sales of Valkyria Chronicles 2 and the general unpopularity of the PSP.It's worth noting that the fan-made patch only works with the Valkyria Chronicles 3: Extra Edition (or VC3:E2 for short) for both the PSP and Vita. If used with the game's original release, the patch will still work somewhat, but there will be errors like voices getting switched around. For further details on how to get the English-language patch installed, head on over to the Valkyria Chronicles 3 Translation Project's official site.

January 3rd, 2014, 00:05 Posted By: wraggster
Activision began the new year by removing several Marvel-licensed games from digital storefronts, including the six-months-young Deadpool. The departed Marvel assortment includes Spider-Man games Edge of Time, Shattered Dimensions, Friend or Foe, and Web of Shadows, as well as X-Men entries Destiny, Origins: Wolverine, and The Official Game.
It's unclear what prompted the removal from Steam, Xbox Live and PSN, although it was in the works back on December 21, when it was noted on the Facebook page for The Amazing Spider-Man game. Curiously, The Amazing Spider-Man remains on the storefronts, and Activision is still publishing the follow-up tie-in for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Activision Community Manager Dan Amrich confirmed the removal yesterday, but he didn't provide a reason for the superhero games going up, up, and away. We've reached out to the publisher for more details.
The expiration of a licensing agreement between Activision and Disney-owned Marvel is one possible explanation. Upon acquiring the comic book giant for $4 billion, Disney CEO Bob Iger noted his company was considering moving towards self-produced and published games in the coming years.
"As these licensing deals expire we have the luxury of considering what is best for the company and the products," Iger said during a 2009 investors' call (via MCV).
When Disney closed LucasArts last year, it then turned to EA with a multi-year exclusive agreement to license out Star Wars games.

This way settings are properly enabled/disabled in the menu.

R_SP is not that bad.
* Merge pull request #4937 from unknownbrackets/gpu-minor
Ignore material update when no vertex color, softgpu vertex preview
* softgpu: Fix preview region y1 in ge debugger.
* softgpu: Implement vertex preview.
And move ConvertMatrix4x3To4x4() into a common place since there were
differing implementations, which was only confusing.
* softgpu: Use region for debugger buffer previews.
It's fine if it resizes or etc., but this should generally be the
interesting area of vram to show, without any confusing noise on the
side/etc.
* Fix typesafety (ScreenCoords not DrawingCoords.)
* Ignore the material update flag w/o vertex color.
Instead of using materialambient for all of them.
Fixes #3918, and seems to match tests with 3dstudio.

While my colleague Acid_Snake is showing you 7 Days of Metal Gear, I am presenting you 7 Days of TN-V, in which we’ve reached the 7th revision of Total_Noobs TN-V eCFW.
After the promised TN-V4 kernel mode release, Total_Noob brought us even more revisions of his PS Vita eCFW, which now reached the status of TN-V7.
In TN-V7 he fixed various bugs and added another few awesome features, that every user of TN-V should really appreciate.
The changelog of the TN-V7 eCFW
* Added NoDRM engine. This allows you to play DLC’s and more. Valkyria Chronicles 3 E2 English Patch is now also supported.
(thanks to hrimfaxi for the idea (this one is written by me)).
* Added ‘PLUGINS MANAGER’ to VSH Menu. Now you can manage your plugins directly from VSH.
* Added ‘Restore ‘QSP’ folder’ to recovery menu (Advanced ->).
* Added support for homebrews without DISC_ID in their PARAM.SFO. This fixes for example the RIN GB/GBC emulator.
* Added check whether you have installed 6.60 files yet. If not, the recovery menu will boot automatically.
* Fixed loading of static ELF. Another factor that makes the RIN GB/GBC emulator and more homebrews working.
* Fixed bug where kxploit’ed/1.50 homebrews were not hidden when ‘Hide exploit game’ was enabled.
* Increased ISO limit from 32 to 128 games.
* Improved system stability. The ‘QSP’ bug shouldn’t appear anymore.
* Removed ‘Allow anti-CFW games’ from recovery menu, because it is only used for ‘DJ MAX Portable 3′. However, this game works now flawlessly without this option.
* The updater does not reset TN-V configurations anymore.
Total_Noob once again delivered a giant new changelog, with a lot of necessary fixes, some new features and even more improvements for his PS Vita TN-V eCFW.
What is your new favorite feature of TN-V7? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.
TN-V7 is now officially supported by every (PS Vita) Exploit game
TN wasn’t the only one who was working on some code. Thanks to various people (qwikrazor, KanadeEngel and others) there are now available files for every released PS Vita exploit game.
Everyone who owns a working VHBL or eCFW at their PS Vita is now able to run TN-V7, if they are using the provided exploit savedata files.
The only game that got no files for any of the various TN-V eCFW revisions is the first PS Vita exploit game, Everybody’s Tennis. We think that no one uses the exploit anymore, and that’s the reason that no one bothered to create files for it.
Every other exploit game has its files and is ready to go for using TN-V. Here’s once again the list of every released PS Vita exploit game so far, and if you need the advice, then refer to this YouTube Playlist, which shows for every exploit game how to launch it properly.

For now, the new PlayStation Vita is available in Japan only, which leaves US gamers with a tough predicament: pay through the nose to import it, or settle for the old model. Even our own Mat Smith, who owns the original Vita, is finding it tough to recommend it over the 2013 edition. But oh, how he does miss that OLED screen.
While wrapping up my review of Sony's new Vita, it was also a good time to reassess the original. It's heavy, thick and the battery life stinks -- most of which we mentioned in our review. However, the Vita still offers the closest approximation of portable console-level gaming -- something Sony's finally realized, with its vow to make every (yes, every) PS4 title playable on the handheld through Remote Play. I've tasted the future, and I like it. After trying Knack through a Vita during TGS 2013, I thought I'd give the existing Remote Play feature a go. Not many games let you, which is probably why Sony is forcing the issue this generation. I do own the HD remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, both of which were made compatible with an after-release patch.
So, after loading up the Remote Play app on my Vita -- and pairing it to my PS3 -- I gave it a try. It's amazing, though there isn't the same leap in graphical proficiency when playing a PS4 title on the handheld. It's also a little too temperamental on the wireless connection, often timing out as you happen to leap from the back of a 100-foot giant to deal the final blow. There's plenty that still amazes me: the bright, vivid screen, useable analogue sticks on a handheld and the ability to play entire PS1 games. Technically, the last one might not sound that amazing, but because the Vita transposes controls so smoothly from the original PlayStation controller, games are a joy to play -- most of the time.
Using the rear touch panel just about covers the lack of L2 and R2 collar buttons, but this is just one of the many things the newest model does better, with a smaller rear panel making inadvertent presses even less likely. But the original model can still claim one advantage: it does have a (marginally) better screen, with improved color accuracy and contrast as a result of the OLED panel (which sadly bit the dust on the newest Vita). You'd have to be really picky to still want the old one, however, because the latest model, still only available in Japan, does everything else much better. I'd wait on that domestic launch announcement -- or take another look at the import costs.

Despite issuing a hefty patch for next-gen recently, 2K Games reports some players are being locked out of NBA 2K14 content due to server connection issues.
A server connection, while not required to access all of the game's content, is necessary for handling virtual currency – which players use to purchase goods and attributes for their custom players – as well as certain modes such as MyTeam and NBA Today. When the game fails to connect to the 2K servers, it locks players out of this content.
An update, issued for the game last night, seems to have resolved a majority of the connection issues, though there are still problems with MyTeam and private TeamUp matches. 2K Games' Ronnie Singh has been active on Twitter today, providing status updates as the developers attempt to quell the server issues. Current-generation versions of the game seem to be good to go, while next-gen versions should have MyTeam working again in the "next few hours."

Kazushige Nojima, a scenario writer for the Final Fantasy series, would love to see a Final Fantasy X-3 – and he says it may happen, if fans want it enough. Nojima is quoted in a book that launched with Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remasterin Japan this week, translated by Siliconera.
"If there's enough demand, then we may possibly see new developments," he says. "I would personally like to see a sequel like X-3."
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will hit North American PS3s and Vitas on March 18 for $40, and European systems on March 21.

Rockstar has released the first run of "Rockstar Verified" jobs for Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5. Chosen directly by Rockstar, these jobs represent some of the best content crafted by players using GTA Online's creation tools.
All told, 10 jobs have been verified, including six races and four deathmatches. Their content ranges from rooftop races to full-on military vehicle shootouts. The jobs were culled from both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of GTA 5 but, as Rockstar notes, these jobs are available on both platforms now that they've been verified. Players can expect "many, many more" Rockstar Verified jobs in the future.

Watch Dogs began life as a very different game. When the team was formed years ago, the goal was to create a driving game.
"They were working on a driving engine, working on something. We had the Driver license. This was years ago," Ubisoft North America President Laurent Detoc told IGN. "Then we were thinking, 'no, this is not the way we want to go with a driving game,' so we canceled that and restarted. It's not like Watch Dogsstarted as Watch Dogs. The Watch Dogs project was initially another game."
Detoc added that some parts of the engine were then incorporated into Watch Dogs after the team reshuffled and added a new creative director. Ubisoft was also working on another driving game at the time – either Driver: San Franciscoor The Crew – so it made sense to cancel the project. "What happens is that a game gets canceled, and then you take pieces of that game to make a new one. We could have had another driving engine from another team in another place, and then it would have been used by the Watch Dogs team."
Watch Dogs, which was originally due to launch this year, was pushed back to Spring 2014 in October. The delay contributed to a drop in Ubisoft's stock, though company president Yves Guillemot is adamant "the team needed additional time to realize the game's full potential."
