Sleeping sucks, you miss news of different timezones for sure. So, what did happen while I slept?
1) PS4 Game Dumps
According to an A9VG member, PS4 games can be dumped with a common PC Blu-Ray drive.
It seems that already a few games were dumped, inlcuding Killzone, Knack, Battlefield4 and AC4.
As soon as I get access to a disc or dump myself, I will do an analyse of the containing files.
For more details of the dumps, like game disc sizes and file structure please check out PS3Hax.
2) HDMI Fail
What happens if you force students to build your Next-Gen console under pressure? Well, they might return you faulty HDMI jacks.
IGN, Kotaku and many more individual users report that their PS4 video output stopped working. The console apparently is unusable for those who experienced it.
3) For those who already received a console
Sadly im still looking for a PS4 unit, if you can help me to get one contact me at skfu@skfu.xxx.
In case you got a unit for yourself, here are some examples of what has to be tested:
- Before powering up the unit for first time, make a 1:1 dump of the HDD
- Dump a game disc
- Burn the dump to an empty BD
- Check if the PS4 recognizes the disc
- Check any files which can be transfered from PS4
- Install a modified firmware
- Use my PS4FwTool
- Extract 2 firmwares
- Rebuild a new firmware based on both output
- Possible brick! Do at your own risk!
- Recovery menu should bring you back in case of faulty firmware, but only do this if you actually are aware of the risk and know what you do!
- Modify the Companion Tool (iOS/Android)
- Intercept game traffic between Companion Tool and PS4 game
Happy hacking,
- SKFU

December 12, 2013: Fixed crash bug
A bug snuck in that causes the game list on Android to either display a blank or crash if it sees a ZIP or RAR file.
This has now been fixed and been pushed to Google Play, and the downloads on this site have been updated.
December 12, 2013: 0.9.6 is here!
That´s right, it´s here, in good time for the holidays! This time the main focus has been on speed improvements, but there has obviously been quite a few bug fixes as well, and a new lighter look for the on screen touch controls. Enjoy! And if you´re having fun, don´t forget to support the project by buying the Gold version.
- Large general speed improvements and assorted bug fixes
- "Software Skinning" option which speeds up many games with animated 3D characters
(but may slow down a few, like Monster Hunter - experiment with turning it off) - Various fixes around stencil/alpha, reducing glow problems in Wipeout and Gods Eater Burst.
- Timing improvements making more games run at the correct FPS, also fixing some audio issues
- More debugger features
- Better looking and individually resizable touch controls
- Automatic install of games from ZIP files, like demos and many homebrew.
- Software renderer improvements
- VERY basic ad-hoc online play support, to be improved in future versions.
- And more...

When Rolento, Elena, Hugo and Poison headline the Ultra Street Fighter 4 cast, they'll be joined by a fifth, mystery combatant. We know nothing about this character, though thanks to producer Yoshinori Ono, we can at least now confirm her gender.
During the recent Capcom Cup fighting game tournament, Ono fielded questions about the new combatants, quickly denying awesome possibilities like bosomy luchador R. Mika and Mike "Mayor of Earth" Haggar. Also posited was the idea that Retsu, the deadly assassin from the original Street Fightermake might a return - canonically the bald guy is pretty crucial to the Street Fighter storyline, despite missing nearly two decades of games - but all of these ideas were categorically denied by Ono.
Instead the mischievious producer offers one single iota of information: The newest fighter will be of the distaff persuasion. This could be a new fighter, or it could be an old favorite - the series' roster has plenty of room for either - but it looks like we won't know more until Capcom decides to unofficially unveil its latest female pugilist.

Shawn McGrath's psychedelic PS3 indie game Dyad will be free to US PlayStation Plus subscribers from Tuesday, December 17.
The PSN-only title joins the US Instant Game Collection as part of this week's US PlayStation Store update.
Described as "an abstract racing game", Dyad is a unique title in which players race through neon-colored tunnels by latching onto moving 'particles' to gain momentum.
The game was released for PS3 in July 2012, and a PC port arrived earlier this year.
Also in this week's update is a Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer trial on PS4, which lets subscribers play for free from December 28 to December 31. You'll be able to pre-download the trial from Tuesday, ahead of the free play period.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House is hopeful that PS Vita's ability to act as a PS4 companion device will increase sales of the handheld system.
The vast majority of PS4 games are required to support Vita Remote Play, adding a new string to the portable platform's bow, and the firstPS4 Vita hardware bundles went on sale late last month to coincide with the new home console's release.
Asked if Sony believes PS4's arrival will give Vita a much-needed boost, the boss of PlayStation told CVG contributor Steve boxer:
"I think Remote Play offers a great opportunity for PlayStation Vita to be seen as a companion device for the PlayStation 4 - a chance, with a reasonable investment, to have a second-screen experience. According to our research, that's resonated most in Europe, ahead of anywhere else."
House said another "pillar of the Vita strategy is to have it be the next platform of opportunity for really good mobile game developers who are looking to expand their creative portfolio into something with more differentiated games interfaces, and we're seeing some success with that".
On the subject of the redesigned Vita model launched in Japan in October, House was hesitant to commit to a possible western release.
"I can't talk about launch plans for the 2000 series at this point. It has launched in Japan and it's selling very well there, and it has certainly increased overall Vita sales - both on hardware and software."
Sony has forecast a combined total of just five million Vita and PSP salesduring the current business year ending March 2014, compared to seven million handheld sales achieved in the previous financial year.

They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!Oh, and here are the first screenshots (plus one piece of art) of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, the action-orientated open-world riff on The Lord of the Rings by F.E.A.R. developer Monolith. The same pictures were included in Game Informer's Shadow of Mordor reveal, but here they are in big resolution for the internet to consume, like lembas bread.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...dor-looks-like
Shadows of Mordor spins the story of a ranger (like Strider) who is murdered, along with his family, by the returning forces of Sauron. But Talion, the ranger, is brought back from the dead by a spirit of vengeance - and it becomes him.Who the spirit is and why the spirit resurrected Talion is a secret knitted tightly into the story. Talion's possession also lends him super powers that he'll use to strike fear into the hearts of the orcs.Shadow of Mordor is a cross-gen game - for new consoles and old - and takes more than a few cues from the superb Arkham Batman games. It's due in 2014.

[Frank Zhao]—an awesome guy, an inadvertent Hackaday contributor, and an Adafrut fellow—has come up with a device to use a keyboard and mouse with Playstation 4 games. He calls it the UsbXlater, and even if [Frank] can’t get it working with his PS4, it’s still going to be an awesome tool.
On the board are two USB ports and an STM32F2 microcontroller. The micro provides a USB host interface and a USB device interface, enabling it to translate mouse movements and keystrokes into something a PS4 can understand. While this project was originally designed to use a keyboard and mouse on [Frank]‘s shiny new PS4, it’s not quite working just yet. He’s looking for a few gamer/dev folks to help him suss out the communication between a keyboard/mouse, the UsbXlater, and a PS4.
Of course, even if this device is never used for what it’s designed for, it’s still a very, very interesting tool. With two USB ports, the UsbXlater could act as a signal generator for USB devices and hosts, analyze USB traffic, or provide other applications that haven’t even been thought of yet.
[Frank] is hitting his head against the wall trying to figure out the PS4 protocol, so if you have some USB skills, feel free to hit him up for a blank PCB, though preference falls to people who will game with it and to those with a USB traffic analyzer. If you lack the skills for USB development, [Frank] is still looking for a better name for his device.

One of the new features that both Sony and Microsoft touted for their next-gen gaming consoles was easy sharing of gameplay videos. Peter Smith has put sharing to the test on both consoles, and (spoiler alert), found that both have plenty of room for improvement. There are pros and cons to each, but ultimately, which console does sharing best comes down to personal preference: 'I really hate that the Playstation 4 is limited to sharing on Facebook and I really like that the Xbox One saves to my Skydrive,' says Smith. 'But I hate having to wait for that upload to happen before I can go back to gaming.

The less-than-coordinated of us know that navigating spaces can at times be harder than it looks. As often as we may stumble, Furmins have it one step harder - they're just limbless balls of fur waiting on an omniscient power to guide them to their destinations. Their puzzle-oriented plight is lining up a pathway from iOS devices to Vitas on December 17.
Compared to Resogun, Furmins is a less explosive effort from developer Housemarque that makes a puzzle out of the journey from Point A to Point B. Players construct potential solutions for any given level in Furmins' Setup mode, which pauses the environment to allow for a path to be constructed out of objects. Once a solution is ready, switching to the Action mode lets the scenario play out, resulting in glory or a return to the phase of blueprints. If you're feeling particularly crafty, you can build with the bits of candy strewn across levels in mind.
The PlayStation Blog notes that Furmins has "100+ unique levels," but it does not suggest a price. The iOS version, Furmins HD, is currently $2.99 on the App Store, but you can try the first world of Furmins Free at no charge.

Well, this is a bit of a surprise: The Vita gets Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on the same day as the PS3. The $40 Vita version looked set for an extended delay after being left out of last month's release date announcement, but Square Enix revealed today that the PS2 remakes hit both systems on March 18, 2014 in North America, and March 21 in Europe.
If you're the kind of Spira-nut who's getting both versions, the good news for you is the game supports cross-saving, meaning you can pick up your Vita progress when switching to PS3, and vice versa. A word of warning on the physical version: the Vita cartridge includes Final Fantasy X, and a voucher to download Final Fantasy X-2 from the PlayStation Store - the PS3 disc will have both games on it. The two remasters are also coming to the PlayStation Store in a combo pack.
Square Enix also announced a PS3 Collector's Edition today, featuring a 40-page hardcover art book, a FFX HD Remaster soundtrack, and five art lithographs. The CE's going at the price of $80, and it's available only at Square Enix's online store.

Minecraft will launch on PS3 on December 17 (tomorrow) in North America, aPlayStation Blog post revealed. The developer in charge of the port, 4J Studios, announced in November that the PS3 version of the game would arrive ahead of next-gen consoles. 4J Studios is still developing PS4 and PlayStation Vita versions, which will land sometime next year, though it's unknown if the game will be cross-compatible or feature any remote play options.
The PS3 version will be "pretty much identical" to other console versions of the game. DLC and texture packs for the game will be available on PSN "soon after release." No price was listed for the game, though it launched on Xbox 360 for $20. In terms of its appearance on home consoles, Minecraft was exclusive to Xbox 360 since it launched in May 2012. That iteration of the game recently celebrated its 10 millionth sale.

Warner Bros. has released an update for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Batman: Arkham Origins adding the new competitive "Hunter, Hunted" mode to the game's online multiplayer component.
"Hunter, Hunted" is a 3v3v1 mode that throws three Bane thugs, three Joker henchmen, and one very pissed-off Batman into the same map for a chaotic team-based battle to the death. There are no respawns in this mode, making thugs especially fragile and keeping the stakes high throughout.
"Hunter, Hunted" is available as part of a free update, and follows up on the recent launch of Arkham Origins' Initiation DLC. The game's upcoming "Narrative DLC" pack will complete Arkham Origins' planned Season Pass content next year.

Last night, the NPD released video game sales data for November and NBA 2K14 debuted at the sixth spot on the list. Today, 2K Games has shared some additional stats on the next-gen version of the game, which was made available alongside the respective launches for the PS4 on November 15 and Xbox One on November 22.
NBA 2K14 was the fourth-best selling game on next-generation platforms, NPD analyst Liam Callahan said, and is the top-selling sports game overall on Xbox One and PS4. NBA 2K14 managed to beat out Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14 and NBA Live 14 , and is the first NBA game to achieve top-selling sports game at the start of a new console generation.
In our review of NBA 2K14 next-gen, we enjoyed the lifelike graphics and additional polish that went into the MyCareer mode, though we lamented the omission of modes found in the current-generation version of the game.
