Q Entertainment's Lumines franchise is making the move back to the PlayStation format with a new PlayStation 3 entry. The latest issue of Famitsu has first details on the new title, Lumines Super Nova.
The basics of the game appear to be the same as past Lumines games, but Famitsu reports that Q is preparing new stages and modes. Notable modes of play include the "Big Down" mode, which appears to let you bring groups of blocks back up onto the play field, and a music creation mode.
Like the Xbox 360 version of Lumines, the PS3 version will be released as a download title. In Japan, distribution will kick off this Fall through PSN. There's no word yet on plans for the game outside of Japan, but we've come to expect worldwide releases from Q, so expect to hear something shortly.

Just as we were complaining about a lack of innovation from Resident Evil 4 to Resident Evil 5, we get word that the whole point might be moot. At a recent Microsoft Media Briefing, producer Jun Takeuchi said that players could expect a new control system, similar to Gears of War, when they hunted digital zombies at the Tokyo Game Show.
Of course, one could argue that "innovation" isn't necessarily synonymous with "cribbing the controls from another game." But hey, Gears was inspired by Resident Evil 4 in the first place, no? It is, as Sir Elton says, the circle of life.

While playing LittleBigPlanet may be old hat to some of us, you, the commoner, may be getting your hands on a Sackboy as soon as September. That's this month! According to a post from the official PlayStation forums, a public beta test for the PlayStation 3 is planned for sometime this month, the details of which are unfortunately largely detail-free.
There will be a limited public beta test for LittleBigPlanet in September. If it will be possible to "sign up" for this test, full information on how to do so will be made public in advance of the test. Similarly if the test is going to be conducted in an invitation-only we will let you know ahead of time.
That means it could be as simple as downloading a PS3 theme, as Sony did with the Home beta. However, should the powers that be decide that an early look at LittleBigPlanet will require sending in your severed pinky, we suspect the turnout would still be pretty darn good.

Square Enix announced it would be bringing Final Fantasy XIII Agito to the PSP in August, sparing fans of the series much mobile platform kvetching. And while Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura says that the title is currently running on PSP hardware and spitting out new screen shots, don't expect it any time soon.
He tells Dengeki, by way of Final Fantasy-XIII.net, that Agito won't see the light of a UMD drive until after both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII publish. Yes, that's from the same source as the Squenix might charge for the standalone FFXIII demo business, so have some Mrs. Dash on hand to stave off hypertension.
Suppose it all makes sense, from a publishing standpoint, but that doesn't make epic wait feel any less daunting. At least we'll all have jet packs and snazzy silver jump suits by then...

Tagline above says rumour, but really, we'd be surprised if either of these things didn't take place. The latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine (not sure whether it's the British or Australian edition) is making its way to letterboxes, and in the mag's rumour section is the following: "Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development as a PS3 exclusive and will be announced at TGS". Seeing as Kingdom Hearts I & 2 were PS2 exclusive, that's hardly a stretch. And with Kingdom Hearts II being nearly three years old, we're well overdue for a third game. Stay tuned, TGS kicks off in just over a month.

Korean developer Pentavision has announced that, yes, there isn't just one new DJ Max title coming out, but two. The PSP rhythm title will be released in two different forms: Clazziquai Edition and Black Square. Pentavision is trying to satisfy both casual and hardcore gamers, but Korean website Ruliweb doesn't specify if these each are divided for those purposes or if both editions will feature separate modes for casual and hardcore players. Like DJ Max Fever, these new DJ Max titles have great looking art.
As Kotakuite Torokun points out: "I did notice that CE includes a lot of mainstream musicians."

Newly released today:
Aside from the Final Fantasy VII spin off, Drag-On Dragoon, and its sequel Love Red, Ambivalence Black, too is added into the Ultimate Hits series.
The controversial games have caused quite a stir in the gaming community. The kill all action system provided a lot of excitement and flying on the dragon's back is exhilarating, however the plot elements are anything but sunny and cheerful.
Violence and gore are graphically depicted, while revenge takes center role, incest and cannibalism are key issues that fuels plot development. The first game Drag-On Dragoon tells the tale of revenge of a prince from a small small country, the sacrifices he has made and the bitter ends he came to.
The second game takes place 18 years after the events of the original game and wrap up the loose ends that results from the past events. Aside from new heroes, and weapons, old characters such as the black dragon and the tragic villainess Mana showed up again as key characters.
Voiced by a star studded cast and a theme song Hitori by Nakajima Mika, Drag-On Dragoon and its sequel Love Red Ambivalence Black are available as Ultimate Hits versions and are sold at the same price of US$ 34.90 only.

Sony's released a handful of Killzone 2 multiplayer screenshots, as the illusive closed beta test (which we still can't get on) continues.
Online modes for the FPS sequel revolve around class-based skirmishes and support for up to 32 players.
Watching the SCE employees on our friends list play it doesn't make us jealous at all.

The Japanese you see in the above image reads "The day of awakening is coming soon." So, that either means that Level-5's long-delayed coffee shipment is finally on the way, or we're about to (also finally) get a fresh look at its mighty big PS3-exclusive RPG, White Knight Story.
Last we heard of the game, it was still on for release (in Japan, at least) before March 31, 2009. The last time we played the game was at Tokyo Game Show 2007. It's about time for an update, and, oh ... TGS 2008 is just around the corner on October 9.

Sony has told Eurogamer that official Disney downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet has only been mentioned as an example of third-party support, adding that nothing has been finalised.
"LBP will have a steady stream of downloadable content, and we have mentioned in the past that we are in talks with third-parties regarding themed downloadable packs," a spokesperson told Eurogamer, shedding light on speculation from the Penny Arcade expo over the weekend.
"Disney has been mentioned in the context of being an example. We are currently still in talks with third-parties and are consequently unable to confirm anything at this stage."
Developer Media Molecule had previously boasted of having "loads of plans" for LittleBigPlanet DLC, although the team would wait to see what people wanted first.
Coincidentally, Sony happens to have loads of plans for LittleBigPlanet, including making game character Sackboy the new face of PS3.
Still, not long now, with LittleBigPlanet due out exclusively for PS3 on 29th October.

The PS3 version of EA's FPS-without-guns Mirror's Edge is set to receive exclusive downloadable content via the PSN.
Speaking to Edge-Online, Sony confirmed that the PS3-only goodies will come post-release, but stamped down rumours that the DICE game has been signed up as an exclusive.
"There was a misunderstanding in terms of the quote that Mirror's Edge is to be a timed exclusive on PS3," the company said.
"The game is multi-platform, although PlayStation has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title, and exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network."
No details on the DLC were given, but at least you know what version buy now.

Square Enix has refused to comment on rumours that a solus Final Fantasy XIII demo may be sold separately to the public.
It was thought the plan was to bundle the sampler with the Blu-ray release of Advent Children: Complete next March in Japan.
But key designer Tetsuya Nomura hinted in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation magazine (translated by FinalFantasy-XIII.net) that a separate version may be offered for a price at a later date. Which sounds rather cheeky, even if the demo is 90 minutes long.
Exact costs, timings, or news on whether an Xbox 360 demo will feature are all questions still to be revealed.
However, we did recently find out that Final Fantasy XIII will definitely not be sold on Xbox 360 across Japan, which shocked absolutely no one.

Is Pure really the next evolution of offroad racing? We'll be one step closer to knowing the answer to that question come Thursday, when a demo of Disney Interactive's racing title hits both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. The demo will feature a 3-lap race against 15 AI competitors on Italy's Mount Garda track - one of 35 tracks shipping with the full retail version of the game. The demo also includes a qualifying track that functions as a tutorial to get players up to speed, no pun intended.
I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the game, though I've not been truly satisfied with an offroad title since Motocross Madness for the PC back in 1998. Here's hoping I can trade in my old favorite for a shiny new one.

Sony has told Eurogamer that the PSP-3000 will launch here on 17th October and cost GBP 149.99.
That makes the slightly redesigned model around 10 pounds more expensive than the existing Slim & Lite hardware being replaced.
However, those super keen for the brighter screen and built-in microphone will be able to buy a silver PSP-3000 bundled with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters two days earlier for around EUR 199.
This will be followed in "early November" by a 4GB memory entertainment pack bundled with a black PSP-3000 for the same price.
Manufacture of the Slim & Lite PSP will come to a halt sometime this month; Sony Europe boss David Reeves also previously told us there may be time-limited price cut to help clear this model from shop shelves.

It's back! Now, with High scores, mines that accelerate, disco party music, and health tablets!
Just use the arrow keys and avoid the mines, but beware, everytime you get faster, they get even more faster! If you're low on health, every 15 seconds a health tablet pops up for you!
I followed a high score list tutorial (And learned it top to bottom), it's from Gleh Rohdes of FlashKit.com.
Have fun!
