Fans of little graphics popping up on your television telling you how good you are at the game you are currently playing are going to be a little disappointed when they pick up the PlayStation 3 version of Bethesda's eagerly-anticipated Fallout 3. In an interview with PlayStation Universe, the company's dashing Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines revealed that trophies won't be making an appearance in the game...at least not initially.
"Not at launch...It remains to be seen what we do down the road. It wasn't something we were able to incorporate into the game for launch."
Not all that surprising, considering the company's documented preference for the Xbox 360. Hopefully trophy support will be added somewhere down the line, but Pete sure doesn't come off as that enthusiastic about the idea, does he?

Sony will stuff more content onto the PS3 Store today, lead by a demo for exciting quad-bike racer Pure.
The PSN Store is yet to be updated, but PS3gen is claiming to have a heads up on content.
There's another sampler for NHL 2K9 - although the game should be as top-notch as always - plus a Destruction add-on pack for Haze, which costs EUR 4.99 (GBP price coming soon).

There's also a free Media Manager tool for PSP and some Soulcalibur IV wallpapers, videos for SingStar Euro talent search Movement. There's no cost for these.

SCEA marketing man John Koller last week told the world the new PSP's brighter screen would mean increased power consumption and thus around 20-30 minutes reduced battery time. Logical, you'd think. But now Koller says he was wrong.
In a corrective statement today, Koller has said that the new PSP-3000 will actually have equivalent battery life to the current PSP Slim.
"I'd like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos," said Koller on the official PS blog.
He goes on to explain: "While the enhanced screen of the new PSP draws a little more power, our engineers in Japan worked to reduce the power consumption of the overall system including its components, so you won't have to worry about losing any time when enjoying the more vibrant visuals displayed with the new PSP."
We expect the internet to put this to the test the minute it becomes available.
The new console, with its nicer screen and built-in microphone (oh, and equivalent battery life), will be out in UK on October 17 for £149.99.

Sony plans to offer trios of PSN games on UMD discs starting this October, ensuring PSP owners throughout the land can lay their mitts on previously download-only content.
Puzzle Pack, the first of these, is due mid-October and contains Lemmings, Go! Sudoku and Go! Puzzle. Our verdict, based on review averages: 6/10.
Following later that month will be the Power Pack, made up of flOw, Beats and Syphon Filter: Combat Ops.
We've only reviewed the science-inspired eat-'em-up flOw out of those, so musical button-matcher Beats and online multiplayer shooter Combat Ops will have to settle with an average-average of 7/10.
Sony, interestingly, makes no mention of the price. The Power Pack can be downloaded separately for GBP 17, whereas a full price UMD is likely to cost as much as GBP 24.99, or perhaps GBP 19.99. We're trying to find out more.
More trio-packs are planned for 2009.

While we can't say if it represents a general sentiment at Samsung or not, the company's UK director of consumer electronics, Andy Griffiths, sure went out on a bit of a limb in a recent interview with Pocket-lint, with him saying that Blu-ray has, to paraphrase David Bowie, only "five years left," and that he "certainly wouldn't give it ten." He did say, however, that he thought 2008 would be Blu-ray's year, adding that "it's going to be huge", and that Samsung is "heavily back-ordered at the moment." As for Samsung's future after Blu-ray's supposed demise, Griffiths seems to think that OLED will be the next big thing, and he's pegging 2010 as a possible date for it to become mainstream and replace LCD. He didn't offer a prediction as to when it will die out though.

We know, we know -- you already know most everything there is to know about Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset, but up until now, the most important tidbit has remained a mystery. The device will be launching this fall as part of the SOCOM: Confrontation bundle for $59.99, or if you just loathe the whole SOCOM series, you can pick it up all by its lonesome for $49.99. Tough call, huh?

Sherwood isn't the only little-known company bringing the Blu to CEDIA -- now we've got a boutique manufacturer joining the crowd. Announced today in Denver, Cambridge Audio has revealed that it too will be producing a BD deck in early 2009. The 640BD will be designed to complement the Azur range of AV receivers, and it will boast full HDMI 1.3 output (including bitstream output of all the latest Dolby / DTS tracks), a full set of analog video outputs, Ethernet, S/PDIF, Toslink and a set of separate, dedicated 7.1 / stereo analog outputs. Unfortunately, that's all the details the company has prepared for this year's Expo, but we'll certainly be hearing more as CES time draws near. Per usual, the full release is after the break.

The PSP is a platform multimediate enormous: Launch of music, videos, photos, web browser, etc. ... But the capacity of its XMB are low compared to its capacity réeles. Hi, everyone, there have been reports about the battery life of the new PSP system (PSP-3000) being shorter than the current model (PSP-2000), following an interview we recently did with Gamespot. I’d like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos. While the enhanced screen of the new PSP draws a little more power, our engineers in Japan worked to reduce the power consumption of the overall system including its components, so you won’t have to worry about losing any time when enjoying the more vibrant visuals displayed with the new PSP.
We hope this clears everything up, and we’re certainly excited about letting you all get your hands on the new PSP and checking out the enhanced screen when it hits retail next month.

Coinciding with Sony's announcements today regarding the PSP-3000's Japanese release, the Japanese press appears to have taken delivery of sample hardware. Both Famitsu.com and Impress Watch have posted comparison shots showing off differences in screen quality and also detailing a few hidden features of the new hardware.
The hidden features are in the firmware. That's right, the PSP-3000 offers users a few bonus options. Famitsu.com makes note of three areas in particular.
The PSP-3000 has a setting for "Color Space" under the system settings section of the XMB. This can be switched between Wide and Normal. Wide exploits the full color depth of the revised hardware, while Normal returns you back to PSP-2000 level color.
The 3000 firmware has an option for Automatic USB Connection. When this is switched on, the PSP switches to USB mode automatically when a USB device is connected.
Finally, the 3000 firmware offers a noise reduction feature for video out. This is used to cut the noise when outputting the PSP's video signal to a television.
Outside of the firmware changes, the Famitsu.com article makes note of some of the changes that players might notice (or might not notice) when doing screen comparisons for themselves. The PSP-3000's screen strengths are most apparent when looking at natural colors such as human skin. However, the differences may not be as apparent with current games. The Famitsu.com article shows a shot of the LocoRoco title screen with the differences barely distinguishable between the two units.
The problem, the site speculates, could be that current games have had their colors fine tuned to look best under the 2000's limited color depth. The site expects future games to fully exploit the PSP-3000 screen's strengths.

hi – i would like to announce the latest version of PSPSeq; version 3.01. PSPSeq is a homebrew synthesizer and sequencer for the PSP.
along with various bugfixes on the 3.00 release, this version also has the ability to run on phat and slim PSPs without requiring the 1.50 kernel. however, if you are running without the 1.50 kernel on custom firmware 3.80 or 3.90 you will need to install fatmsmod. this is required as PSPSeq uses flash memory extensively and file saves and loads are unusably slow when using the unpatched kernel. i have tested this on PSP phat using 3.90 M33-3 (both with the 1.50 add-on and without using fatmsmod) and it works identically.
PSPSeq 3.01 can be downloaded here:
http://dspmusic.org/psp/PSPSeq301.zip
details on installation and changes between this version and PSPSeq 3.00 are contained in the readme.txt file within the zip.
