Sony has announced that PS3 exclusive MotorStorm: Pacific Rift will be released in the UK on 7th November.
The Evolution Studios-developed racer transports the game's rally/ATV/motorbikes/monster truck mashup from the original game's Monument Valley to a new island location full of volcanoes, rivers and jungle.
It's got 16 beefy tracks, introduces monster trucks and up to four-player split-screen play, and allows you to cool off the vehicles' fearsome boost by driving through the surf or pools of water.
As with the original, Pacific Rift also features online racing, this time for up to 16 racers.
There's a demo on the PlayStation Store now, featuring the Rain God Spires track (for single-player or two-player split-screen), if you fancy trying before you buy, and you can find various previews, screenshots and videos on the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift gamepage.
Check back for our review very soon.

via Games Industry
The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe.
The game was due for release next week, October 24, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until November 14.
However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony shortly.
LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.
Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas.
More details to follow.
Posters' edit: It seems the delay is being caused by the discovery of a particular ingame song and passage from the Quran, spotted by Videogaming247. Here's a bit more info on a Google cached thread at Sony's website.

Just two days after the official release of the 5.00 firmware, Dark_AleX has managed to make custom firmware 5.00 M33. Here are some details and features from the readme:
5.00 M33
----------
Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
Put the 5.00 sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.
Changes:
- 4.01 to 5.00
- Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again.
Note to pspstates plugin users: this plugin won't work in this firmware due to it being made
specifically for 4.01. Running it in 5.00 M33 can cause problems, wait until an update of plugin.
- Translating the recovery.
To translate the recovery create a text file in ms0:/seplugins/xx_recovery.txt
or flash1:/xx_recoery.txt (they are evaluated in that order), where xx is the language code
of your language:
es -> spanish
en -> english
fr -> french
de -> german
it -> italian
ja -> japanese
ko -> korean
nl -> netherlands
pt -> portuguese
ru -> russian
ch1 -> chinese simplified
ch2 -> chinese traditional
The file en_recovery.txt in translate folder is included for people to translate to their languages, this file is not needed for english people, as the english language is used when no language file is found.
Just change the english strings to your language ones, and put it in the path mentioned above. Be careful to check in the recovery that the lines look fine, don't use too large text.
The spanish file es_recovery.txt will be written by the program in the memory stick.
Are you going to update?
Update from Dark Alex
Some people have noticed an error 0xFFFFFFFF appearing launching their psx games.
The reason of this is due to some converters like psx2psp using 32 bits depth when converting the png icon, and new pops only support 24 bits format.In future versions M33 will check if the depth is invalid, and in that case replace the icon by the dracula one, anyways this is not critical, and an update won't be released only for this.If you want to make those psx games work in this version, reconvert them using popstation command line tool and using a 80x80 24 bits png icon. Alternativelly if you want to continue using psx2psp and you don0t mind about savedata icon being dracula one, go to options in psx2psp, and in icon0 select "Old default".

It's been a while since we've seen a PSP title top the Japanese sales charts. Well, surprise surprise: a PSP anime-licensed game has taken the top spot in Japan. With over 100,000 units pushed in a week, Macross Ace Frontier is an unsurprising victor to this week's charts, edging out a slew of DS and PS2 games, like Pokemon Platinum and Dynasty Warriors 6 Special.
01. Macross Ace Frontier (PSP)
02. Pokemon Platinum (DS)
03. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (DS)
04. Dynasty Warriors 6 Special (PS2)
05. Super Robot Wars Z (PS2)
06. Wii Fit (Wii)
07. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)

via PS3Fanboy:
PS3 sold an impressive amount of hardware in September, according to the NPD Group, with 232,408 hardware units sold. While this represents a 94% increase over September of 2007, the PS3 failed to outperform the Xbox 360, which recently received a price drop. (The cheapest Xbox 360 is now $200 cheaper than the cheapest PS3 system.)
With Sony opting out of a price drop this holiday season, it seems as though Xbox 360 will grow its lead over Sony's hardware in the coming months. Good news for Sony, though: software sales have experienced a 130% growth, with 1.72 million units sold.
"We remain confident that our footing is solid as we enter the holiday season this year. Our new 80GB PS3 model has made its way to retail shelves and into consumers' living rooms as the best value for both their gaming and entertainment needs. If the impressive pre-sale numbers and ratings for LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, and Resistance 2 are any indication, we anticipate hardware and software sales to continue to lift in October as we officially kick off the broadest and deepest software line-up this holiday, including LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and NBA '09: The Inside. - Jack Tretton, president and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America
Hardware Sales:
Wii - 687.0K
NDS - 536.8K
360 - 347.2K
PS3 - 232.4K
PSP - 238.1K
PS2 - 173.5K
Software Sales:
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360) - 610K
Wii Fit - 518K
Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360) - 363K
Mario Kart Wii - 353K
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PlayStation 3) - 325K
Mercenaries 2: World In Flames (Xbox 360) - 297K
Wii Play - 243K
Madden NFL '09 (Xbox 360) - 224K
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii) - 223K
Madden NFL '09 (PlayStation 2) - 158K

With the PlayStation Store now available directly on your PSP, we've been wondering again about the future of the handheld's UMD format. After all, with a new distribution model available for publishers - they can now release PSP games just on UMD, just digitally, or simultaneously on both - won't the quicker and potentially more profitable digital option always win out?
Not according to Zeno Colaço, vice president of publisher and developer relations for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. When we asked him if this marked the beginning of the end for UMD, he was forthright in his defence.
"Absolutely not," he said. "We've just released the PSP 3000 so we're hardly going to be introducing a piece of hardware at the same time as we're dropping support for UMD. It's a case of recognising that consumers and content creators want the option of both digital distribution and UMD."
Of course, this attitude is completely in line with Sony's strategy that, like its other consoles, PSP has been designed as a piece of hardware that will be around for 10 years. Presumably that means UMD will be around for 10 years too.
And don't forget to come back tomorrow to find out how Sony's expects these complimentary release options to broaden PSP's games catalogue.

Well the PS3 homebrew scene today has a major blow, news from ps3hax
Sony has blocked BD-J homebrew support on the newest 2.50 PS3 firmware update. We believe that it was blocked due to the releases of BD-J emulators (thus why it was not blocked in past few firmware updates).
Definetly bad news for those who ran BD-J homebrew on PS3.
The BD-J homebrew scene on PS3 wasnt much to shout about but Sony have at the moment it seems scuppered us

Square Enix looks poised to offer Dissidia: Final Fantasy as both downloadable game and UMD title at launch on 18th December.
If the listing on the Sony Japan website proves accurate (well spotted, Siliconera), then we should be able to grab the title directly from the Japanese PSP Store. This involves pretending to live there, remember.
And, what with Square Enix still fathoming out European launch plans, that would seem quite appealing. The arena combat spin-off will be in Japanese, of course, but with the emphasis on fighting that shouldn't matter too much.
This sort of behaviour was started by Sony during the Tokyo Game Show, after the platform holder promised all first-party PSP games would simultaneously appear on UMD and the PSP Store.
There are some videos of Dissidia: Final Fantasy to watch over on Eurogamer TV.

NoEffex has posted details of a new cheat device for SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2, heres whats new in this release
Version 1 Changelog:
Build 1:
Renamed to 'bakon' in my hatred of KDE..and..well..bacon
Added some more loggerisms
Changes here and there
Logs a certain address if set, read README for more details
Increased the buffer size for the logger, buffer overflows are plagueing logs.
If the SSLoader does not find a file, then it will go straight to the main menu. It got annoying to me, too.
Adjusted the delay, it might flicker more, it might not, just depends. Doesn't take as long to get from place to place.
All logging functions nulled for the time being, until I can figure out what in the world is wrong with them. I suspect it is the size of the buffer, but I could be wrong.

Gamers. We're a right bunch of complainers. And rightly so. When Socom: Confrontation hit US stores earlier this week lacking Trophy support, we were right to go a bit mental.
But it's okay, says Sony, who has plans to fix it. Speaking on the official PS blog, Sony's Jeff Rubenstein said: "I just wrapped up a conversation with the SOCOM team, where they've confirmed the fact that trophies will be coming, via a patch, within the next couple of weeks."
Our guess is that that very same patch will be ready in time for the game's UK launch on November 28. But that's just a guess.
Wipe those tears away soldier. It's all good.

News from ALek
There are some rumors around the net, that newest psp fw, 5.00, will block the access to PSStore to non-original firmwares.
It will be interesting to clarify that this is just a rumor, and it's most probably a fake information.
You'd might remember times where someone said that 3.00ofw was going to be THE firmware, unhackable, etc etc.
Well, atm, using the future systemctrl.prx for 5.00 cfw, it doesn't even blocks the partial cfw made by now, so from here it's interesting to confirm that you shouldn't believe on rumors. So, PSStore won't be a problem with future cfw's.
Nice to get some real confirmation

This is just a simple panel that will come up when you press the L trigger, which you can change. You have to add your own options to it, but I think it is pretty neat.
You can replace the default panel image if you wish.

The UK Resistance 2 public beta will kick off on Monday 20 October and will run through to 13 November, Sony has confirmed to CVG.
Initial access keys for the beta - around 7000 - are being given out via the internet, but there's every chance more could be made available a little later.
The US public beta kicked off today, so it's all go over the pond. If any of our US readers could tell us exactly what's in the beta, that would be jolly nice of you.

News/release from CaptSmokey6
Hello everybody,
i have a new release for you all,
it's called: CaptSmokey6's Ultimate Portal Fusion.
What's inside? A fusion of PSPWxp 3.5 and iFreeRadio 1.8 in a very simple interface. No, it does not look like an operating system, it looks like a normal web page. It's all web powered which allows instant updates without downloading anything thus saving precious free space on your memory stick. I am still working on it, but almost everything is functional. The things i need to do is to add the links to other websites (such as google, Gmail, eBuddy, and so on) that is included with PSPWxp, the contact me page, and the themes page so you can change the look of the portal. It installs as an Internet Radio portal, which uses only 2KB. The iFreeRadio part of the portal still looks the same. Compatible with official and custom firmware 3.80 and higher.
Where to get it? Point your PSP's web browser to:

Sega announced rather quietly at Tokyo Game Show that Phantasy Star Portable will be coming to North America. The Phantasy Star Online-style action RPG will hit these shores in March of next year, with Sega likely hoping it will match the success it has had with the game in Japan. Phantasy Star Portable has sold well over 600,000 copies on its home turf, in some part riding on the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.
While Phantasy Star Portable features wireless multiplayer of the local "ad hoc" style, it may be taking advantage of upcoming PlayStation 3 functionality that simulates infrastructure connections. That means online monster hunting with primary colors and futuristic laser swords, the kind of stuff that can make us momentarily pause our Phantasy Star V daydreaming.

For some reason, people are excited over the PS3's new-found ability to take screengrabs, which was introduced as part of the 2.5 firmware update. You may be less excited to hear that, much like the PS3's trophy system, the feature must be implemented at the developer's end. And as it stands, not a single game supports the feature. Sure, it'll probably be widely implemented in future PS3 games, but again like trophies (in particular, how the developers of most older PS3 games are ignoring them), it's a shame Sony couldn't be a little stricter on maintaining a consistent feature set across the console's library.

Now that the Tokyo Game Show is over, Game|Life's Chris Kohler is wandering the streets of Tokyo, looking at stuff. Stuff like Shibuya's Cafe Danmark, which he passed by Monday morning. During one of his Akihabara crawls, he spotted higher prices for used backwards compatible PLAYSTATION 3s. The 20GB and 60GB launch consoles were backwards compatible, but the feature has since been removed from the machines. At used game shop Trader, a second-hand 60GB with a "big scratch" is going for ¥56,800 (US$566). Quite happy to own a PS3 with backwards compatibility, and while Sony's business decision to remove b.c. is understandable, it's also a damn shame.
