News/release from Dark ALex
thanks psphacks for the news
Dark_AleX has released a simple tool to determine whether or not you’re a sucker with a [new] non-hackable hand-held. Copy each firmware EBOOT, both 3.90 and 4.05, to the root of your memory stick. Launch the TA-088v3 Identifier (GETIPL) from a homebrew-enabled PSP and it will extract and create the IPLs; if you’re good to go, the app should auto-exit in 10 seconds. This leaves you with an “ipl390.bin” and “ipl405.bin” file in the memory stick’s root.
Next, do this –
Connect the PSP via USB.
Format a memory stick with the included “mspformat” tool.
Use “msinst” to install the 3.90 IPL onto the freshly formatted memory stick.
Insert the memory stick into the PSP to be TA-088v3 tested.
Turn it on with a Pandora Battery. Two (2) possible results:
PSP immediately turns off — your PSP is NOT equipped with a TA-088v3 motherboard.
PSP stays on with the green light — your PSP is a TA-088v3, or perhaps you’ve done something wrong. Continue…
Connect the PSP via USB again.
Repeat the above steps with the 4.05 IPL. Again, two (2) possible results:
If the PSP turns off immediately with this IPL and it previously remained on with the green light — this indicates a TA-088v3 board.
PSP and the green light remain on — you’ve likely done something wrong. Try again.
Whatever the indicator — the TA-088v3 ain’t hacked yet.

PressMe is my first homebrew coded in C. I started programming in C on PSP a while ago. I created this homebrew to see what I already knew and make it a utility for noobs in particular. This utility can check that your keys are working properly. The homebrew has 12 buttons yet.
Top
Left
Low
Right
Triangle
Square
Croix
Round
L
R
START
SELECT
Many people on forums no longer come back to the XMB properly when they are full games and croyent while it is a problem which is not hardware. With this homebrew, you will know whether this is the case. If you run the homebrew and he tells you that a key is pressed, is that it is stuck, and it is therefore hardware. I put online the source code and of course free to developers of do what they want.
I want to thank those who I have helped a lot:

News/release from Art:
Hi Guys,
Her's the more polished version of Irdeto Sage file Encryptor/Decryptor for the Sony PSP.
This version adds another step to the crypt algorithms with little time overhead,
also an interface tidy up, and a file footer is added to encrypted files to prevent
encrypting a file twice, or trying to decrypt a file that is already in plain state
(ie. the program knows if a file has been encrypted with this program or not).
Encrypted files produced with IDS V1 are not compatible with V2 for two of the reasons given above.
Full source is given away with this release:
http://rapidshare.com/files/15388265..._sage.zip.html
Security of data encrypted with this program does not depend on secrecy of the crypt algorithm,
but it does depend on the secrecy of the private key chosen by the user to encrypt data with.
Cheers, Art.

Polo35 is back again to bring another anticipated update to this project.
A comment from the man himself

Next step is to implement 'cdvdemu' modules to HD Project, with a games browser and everything needed to start debugging cdvd emulation modules.
And the change log:
Quote:
HD_Project_V1.08 release:
- GUI Side:
- Revert to non 'Xmodules' use. SIO2MAN/PADMAN/MCMAN/MCSERV are now use at 'gui' startup.
- Remove 'auto-open' tray option. Anyway this functionality would have been taken away in 'cdvdemu' version.
- Remove 'ioprp image file' scanning. This is no more needed because of new 'mcemuloader' EE core.
- Replace use of 'mcemugui' module by 'vmcfs' driver in 'vmc creation' operation.
- Add 'MC FLASHER' entry in 'MC TOOLS' menu. This allow to 'flash' a selected 'vmc file' to physical memorycard. The file must be a compatible HD Project 'vmc file' without ECC datas.
Thought i have to add lot of security to 'mcflash' functionality.
Be very carfull with this function. I cannot be responsible of bad use. Use it as your own risks.
- Modify 'mcdump' process. IOP is reseted, then Xmodules are loaded instead of 'standard basic' modules. When dump is done, IOP is reseted once again, the 'standard basic' modules are reloaded.
- Add a new configuration entry: cacheSize. This entry allow to set cache size value use in 'hdd' or 'usb' modules when emulating a memorycard in-game.
This option increase save/load operations, but dicrease games compatibility.
- Add a new configuration entry: games. This entry allow to save individual vmc game settings such as startup file path, cachesize, and vmc file path when loading a game.
- Modify 'game boot procedure':
There are now four possibilities when loading a game:
- 1 - Cross button start a game with last saved settings. If no settings where found HD Gui open a 'mc emulation' option menu to set cachesize and vmc file path for this game.
- 2 - Circle button open directly the 'mc emulation' option menu to modify options for this game.
- 3 - Square button start the game with default settings. Those set in HD Gui option menu.
- 4 - Triangle exit menu.
- GAME LOAER Side:
- EE Side:
- Rewrite completely 'mcemuloader' to make it running in-game.
- Add syscalls hooking to catch 'Reboot request from EE'. This allow to update iop processor with modules from 'ioprp image file' then load mc emulation modules.
Note that 'mcemuloader' use parts of ffgriever 'ESR EE core' source code for two points below.
- IOP Side:
- Write a 'atadev9' device driver compatible with games. It's directly based on 'cdvdemu' atad/dev9 support. This
- Rewrite 'apa' and 'pfs' to make them compatible with games. Code based on 'ps2sdk' rev 1420. ( Without new 'poweroff' )
- Implement ffgriever USB modules optimisation.

A Sony executive says the company doesn't plan to cut prices for the PlayStation 3 video-game console before Christmas, despite Microsoft's recent move to slash prices for the Xbox 360 by as much as 30%.
Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, told the Financial Times in Tokyo that the PS3 is already a far better value than rivals half its prices.
Voltaic Systems offers backpacks and shoulder bags with built-in solar panels that can be used to recharge music players or cell phones. Allworx introduces an inexpensive voice-over-IP phone system that's designed for businesses with 5 to 100 workers. Semiconductor companies today need business agents to protect their intelectual property, the company says.

"The answer is yes, if you're asking, 'Are these the prices we're going with this Christmas?'" Hirai said in an interview with the newspaper.

If you're a multi-platform owner and stuck for which console you will buy Saint's Row 2 for, your decision may be swayed by the fact that the PS3 version will completely lack Trophy support.
THQ has confirmed as much to CVG that following confusion over whether or not trophies would be supported in the game, with conflicting reports and statements all over the place.
Official word is that it's not happening.
The spokesperson could not confirm whether or not Trophy support would be added in a patch post-release, nor why it was omitted in the first place, although we suspect the launch of the trophy system may not have sat well with the already-delayed development schedule.

It’s Fall, the leaves are changing, football is back on TV, and the air is getting crisp. That means it’s time for our annual exclusive Canadian preview event! We took over a very cool venue last week to give media and consumers a look at some great 2008 holiday titles for PlayStation Portable and PLAYSTATION 3.
Attendees were able to get hands-on time with Resistance 2, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, LittleBigPlanet and many more top SCE games. It was also the first Canadian showing of Resistance: Retribution and Killzone 2. A very special thank you to James Stevenson from Insomniac Games and my fellow SCEA PR counterpart (and blog poster) Brian Keltner for coming up to demo the Resistance titles.
We had great third party support as Ubisoft, EA, Activision, THQ, Bethesda, Namco Bandai, Sega and 2K Games attended. Some of the playable third party games included Guitar Hero IV: World Tour, 007: Quantum of Solace, Rock Band 2, Mirror’s Edge, Call of Duty 5: World at War, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, Sonic Unleashed, WWE Raw vs Smackdown 2009, Bioshock, Prince of Persia and Fallout 3.
The best part is, for those of you who couldn’t attend the event and will be in Greater Toronto Area October 17-19, we will also have a big presence at Best Buy’s Gaming Invasion 08. Gamers will have the opportunity once again to get hands-on time with all of our holiday titles before they hit stores.
Thanks to everyone who participated and we look forward to having you back next year. Now that the event is over, I’m really looking forward to playing all of these titles!!!

Newly released today:
features
Rebuild the Saints and seek revenge against rivals to reestablish your crew as the rightful kings of Stilwater
Customize your crib, recruit your gang, and set your swagger using countless combination’s of character configuration
Protect yourself with human shields, throw rivals into oncoming traffic and zero-in your nut-shot using all-new Fine Aim controls
Build your empire with private jets, speedboats, and helicopters or strafe the hood of your rival’s monster truck from the comfort of your fighter plane
Discover both the familiar and strange in a revitalized Stilwater as you taunt, mug and streak your way through the city
Send a message to your enemies using an arsenal of rocket launchers, shock-paddles, stun-guns, and satchel-charges
Complete the campaign in two-player co-op, or multiply the mayhem with online open-world gameplay
description
Five years have passed since your former Saints crew betrayed you. As you awake from a coma for the first time since that fateful day, you find the Stilwater you once ruled is in disarray. Unfamiliar gangs have laid claim to your territory, rival factions have taken over your rackets, and cash-hungry corporations have laid waste to your once proud 3rd Street home. Abandoned and left scarred with an unrecognizable face, you seek out a plastic surgeon to begin your new life on the streets of Stilwater.
Respect can only be earned in Stilwater, and that requires a lifestyle that reflects your unique personality. Your crib, your crew, and your character define who you are on the streets and how you are perceived. The image you portray is as important as the decisions you make in a city ruled by false bravado and impulsive behavior. The only constant is the need for an identity that reflects your individuality and is backed up by your 12 gauge.
Style and image can only take you so far in a world where actions speak louder than words. Sometimes sending a message to your enemies requires heavy lifting, like that of a rival gang member into oncoming traffic. Respect in Stilwater needs to be taken, and what better way than to grab it from the hands of a gang full of enemies by means of a satchel charge.
The fight to reclaim Stilwater does not have to be waged alone. The Saints once ruled these streets as a crew of brothers, and their return to the top can help be secured through co-operative alliances. The time has finally come to seek revenge against your rivals to reestablish your crew as the rightful kings of Stilwater.

Macross Ace Frontier is in a no-lose situation. The lucky thing. If it sucks as a Macross game, well, it’s a Macross game. They have a history of sucking. If it sucks as a PSP game, well, it’s a PSP game. They (mostly) have a history of sucking. What’s so surprising given both of those expectations, then, is the fact that having played the game at TGS, it’s not sucking. On either count.

have released a new version of Nanodesktop (0.3.5). This version
is only for developers, some features don't work yet (but it is 99%
working).
My hope is that other developers can work on it. For example, I'm
looking for somebody that can help me to add the support for
the PyKey driver (the code is already written and ready; I need
only a programmer that writes the calls to the driver and that tests
the hardware).
You can download the 0.3.5 version here:
http://visilab.unime.it/~filippo/Nan.../Downloads.htm
The package is 209 Mb.
This version of nd is able to run either on Win32 either on Linux Ubuntu.
The psp-gcc has been updated to the version 3.1.0. ndOpenCV has
been update to the last version, in way of obtaining a state-of-art
framework for artificial vision.
The new HAL incorporates the USB fix.

via PS3Fanboy:
We've got bad news for these eBay sellers -- a poster on NeoGAF noticed that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been rated for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Presumably, the title will be a downloadable one on the PS Store and XBLA. The ESRB has been a good source of leaks in the past, so we have no reason believe otherwise in this instance.
With the a total of 56 playable characters in the game spanning two vast fictional universes, hopefully Capcom doesn't plan on charging us $1.99 per character download.

October 14th, 2008, 00:43 Posted By: wraggster
Last week, we gave you the chance to ask Patapon 2 game designer Hiroyuki Kotani your questions about the follow up to this year’s unique PSP hit. A few days ago in SCEI’s Tokyo offices, I passed those questions on to Kotani-san (through an interpreter). He was happy to answer your questions on camera:
The next day, he introduced Patapon 2 Don Chaka (Japanese title) to the media at Tokyo Game Show. I transcribed the event, which should answer even more questions you may have about the game.
Kotani: We received a lot of requests after the first one, which shaped Patapon 2
• More customization
• Want to create original Patapons
• Want to play Patapon Longer
• Want to enjoy Patapon with friends.
The game takes place on an unknown island after the first game. There, the Patapon are blocked by the Karmen, a mysterious masked clan, blocking the Patapon’s path to the true Earthend. That’s where you come in.
Early on, you’ll encounter a lost Patapon, who is the Hero Patapon. The Hero Patapon features in both single player campaign and multiplayer.
In ad-hoc MP, the missions involve Magical Eggs
Kotani-san brings 3 players up to help, including Andrew Yoon of PS3 Fanboy and Dale North of Destructoid. One controls the new wizard class of Patapon (Mahopon), another takes control of the bird rider (Toripon), another new Patapon class.
The goal of the mission played is to carry an egg to the goal, where the egg can hatch and reveal a mask, which can then be used in the single player campaign. The 4 players cooperatively battle a giant bird boss equipped with a lethal, um, gas attack. When they get into Fever mode, meteors rain from the sky in attack.
Once the players get into the rhythm, they are able to take down the avian monster using Attack, Withdraw, and March commands. The players are then launched a rhythm game (similar to the “make it rain” miracle in the original Patapon), only longer and more complex. At the end, the egg hatches, and they receive a mask, which is equippable in the single player mode.
Kotani-san runs through some comparisons with the original game (basically, significantly more levels, items, Rarepon varieties, classes, and more in the sequel). He also reveals a Game Sharing mode, where 4 players can play missions with a single Patapon 2 UMD.
All of the new features were added due to player feedback, and Patapon 2 is more accessible than the original. He finishes up by saying that he designed Patapon 2 with “the idea of players smiling in enjoyment” as they play.
We’ll continue to bring you Patapon 2 news as we get closer to release, which will be 2009 in North America.
