A remake of the original Prince of Persia game is set to appear on PlayStation Network.
That's according to PlayStation.com, which confirms it'll feature new character designs, animations, controls and content. There are also three game modes, including Time Attack and Survival.
Sounds pretty much identical to Prince of Persia Classic, which was release on Xbox Live Arcade last year. The game "beautifully celebrates a genuine gaming legend", our reviewer wrote, before adding, "7/10". There's no word on a price or a release date for the PSN version yet.
In the meantime, there's always the next fully-fledged POP game to look forward to. Keep an eye out for our hands-on impressions later this week.

There's been a rush by Microsoft and Sony to snatch up exclusive post-launch DLC for high profile games. The Xbox 360 will be sporting exclusive content for Grand Theft Auto IV and Fallout 3, and Microsoft recently announced plans to offer two expansion levels for Tomb Raider: Underworld to be released later this year. For its part, the PS3 will be getting a heaping helping of Mirror's Edge DLC at an unspecified date. So the manufacturers are lining up to make deals, but the question at hand is does this have any effect on consumers' purchases?
Lazard Capital analyst Colin Sebastian thinks that this new frontier is as yet "unproven," and that the new content being made available for Grand Theft Auto IV will go a long way toward answering our questions. As for the practice as a whole, Sebastian concedes that it likely does have some effect, but at yet it's impossible to determine exactly what that effect may be.
"I think it's reasonable to assume there is some correlation between game sales and the availability of exclusive content for a particular platform," he said, "but the content needs to be high quality and add something to the overall game experience."

Its been a while since our own StrmnNrmn has been around although i remember a PM about the hacking of DCEmu sometime in january, but the N64 Emulator for PSP has had no real new version since then bar some unofficial versions that caused some fun on the forums.
An announcement on a site that uses the StrmnNrmn name (but not the official home) says a new coder is to take on the rather hard task of emulating the N64 on PSP:
A new Dev that came here hoping to help Daedalus and the community has declared he is going to try and tackle Daedalus! Shinydude100 came here and is teaming up with our other 2 devs that have stumbled across the Daedalus source code in hopes of bettering from where StrmnNrmn left off. His current plans are to implement a newer and improved Zilmar graphics plugin in an effort to increase performance slightly and will help compatability a bit with microcode work.
Here is some quotes from Shinydude100 about what he has planned for his first release:
"This should be supported for the PSP, and if all goes well, we should see increased performance, and even better texture rendered on the floors of games like Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of time, and Diddy Kong Racing with actual polygons appearing. By change, i do not mean i'm suggesting, i mean i'll change the graphics plugin to an 07 graphics based Plugin which should support our PSPs. GRAPHICAL IMPROVEMENT is a BIG thing when it comes to the emulated FPS we get on Deadauls."
~Shinydude100
Deadauls Coder--Keeping it Alive...
Its supposed to be released sometime in October, lets hope its no red herring

Sony has issued a patch for WipEout HD that stops the game freezing for players connected to PlayStation Network with more than 50 friends on their list.
However, to get the benefits from the automatic update, version 1.10, it's necessary to delete your save game file and create a new profile.
That's bad news if you had been playing the game offline to avoid the effects of the problem, or if you had temporarily deleted some friends (our solution: permanently delete your friends - and in the game).
At least, however, doing so will not affect the Trophies you have unlocked and any online records, if you have them. It's just campaign progress you lose. Just.
Sony announced this apologetically, for obvious reasons.
WipEout HD is certainly good enough to survive the stigma of a game-freezing bug, but it is a shame that the beautiful, GBP 11.99 racer has been so beset by problems.
Prior to release, the game was delayed considerably due to a big setback during a routine epilepsy screening procedure - something Sony said it was honour-bound to take "very seriously".

LocoRoco 2 is an awful lot like LocoRoco. Sure it has a German blob and swimming and a rhythm game, but all of that is just a few more cherries on what I've always felt was a wonderful sundae of a Playstation Portable game.
I sped through a single level of the game at Tokyo Game Show earlier this week and quickly found myself falling back in love with the cute graphics and catchy nonsense music. The controls remain great and, unless my imagination was playing tricks on me, feel a bit more responsive than the first time through.
The basic controls of the game remain the same. You're still tilting and bumping the playing field to get your LocoRoco to move around. There are still some hidden areas and the occasional enemy you have to either avoid or flatten with your globularness. I did stumble across what I believe is a new sort of creature. A bee of sorts that if you fail to avoid stings you. When your LocoRoco gets a sting a little red-tipped welt forms on the creature. Every time the LocoRoco rolls over his sticky-outtie bump he sort of cries. It's quite endearing and made me both laugh in surprise the first time and feel just a little bit bad.
I also ran across a couple of the mini rhythm games. In them you have to tap a face button to a rhythm, trying to land a series of music notes which you collect for some reason unknown to me.
Like I said, more of the same but in a very wonderful way.

You might want to hold off on buying a Blu-ray player for a few weeks, because thankfully, finally, seriously, and almost too-latedly, Blu-ray players will soon drop into truly affordable territory. A source close to Ultimate Electronics has told us to expect the Samsung BD-P1500 — usually about $400 — for $149 on this particularly welcome and poignant Black Friday. Ultimate Electronics is a primarily Midwestern chain, but look to be offering this deal in cooperation with Samsung — in other words, it's probably not the only place you'll see stupidly cheap Blu-ray players come November 28th.

One of the fourteen "unannounced" titles that Sony had on display at this year's Tokyo Game Show was Minna de Spelunker, a modern day remake of the 1985 NES platformer Spelunker for the PlayStation Network. Irem hasn't strayed far from the original, adding only high-definition graphics and up to four-person multiplayer. One can still play with an original 8-bit graphics setting, which was on display at Sony's and Irem's booth, even in split-screen modes. The HD version, while it looks technically better, plays identical to its retro counterpart (i.e. painfully).
Spelunker may be fondly remembered (or hated) for its unforgiving difficulty; you'll need to perform very precise jumps and memorize level patterns to survive. Falling even a few feet means certain death for your cave explorer.
Spelunker pits you against a wide variety of underground dangers, including rolling boulders and deadly bat shit. Thankfully, you can avoid those guano storms with a flares you'll find scattered throughout the caves. You'll drop bombs to clear obstacles and collect color-coded keys to bypass doors, all the while on the hunt for treasure. It's straightforward stuff, to be sure, with limited appeal. Masochists with a streak of Spelunker nostalgia will probably adore it.
Irem has updated the graphics, sometimes for the worse. The titular spelunker looks nowhere near as endearing as his 8-bit ancestor. However, some aspects, like the creeping purple ghosts, look spectacular. It's a tad hit-or-miss, but serviceable and on par with Irem's other recently announced 8-bit remake, R-Type Dimensions.
The TGS floor demo was pretty brief. Burning through it took about three minutes, a bit longer if it was your first go at the game. It feels very much like a relic, but polished up and lovingly released upon the Spelunker-loving masses. We don't really expect it to appeal to too many PlayStation 3 owners because of its severe difficulty and dated mechanics. That said, we didn't have the opportunity to experience four-miner multiplayer. There's a possibility that that could be slightly enjoyable.

Atari has listed the improvements going into Alone in the Dark PS3, which has received a name change to Alone in the Dark: Inferno.
The slightly disappointing 360 original will be improved on PS3 with tweaked controls, a more accessible inventory system and improved car handling, says Atari.

News from Sonys Blog
Hi everyone. We’ve been listening to all of your feedback about the PS3 and PSP, and with these next firmware updates (coming soon), we’ve added a number of new features and improved some existing functionality to make your PS3/PSP experience even better.
PSP (v5.00) update
Let’s start with the v5.00 update for PSP. In this version, you’ll notice the addition of the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB. You can now sign up for PlayStation Network, manage your account and access PlayStation Store directly from your PSP - meaning you can download games directly to your PSP while connected via Wi-Fi. Getting games, demos and trailers while on-the-go has never been easier! Check out the screen below.
The current PlayStation Store on the PC will be down in the interim as we take some time to revamp. Don’t worry, it will re-launch soon after we’ve made some tweaks. Please keep in mind, if you already have a PlayStation Network account, simply sign in on your PSP using your existing information. The same account and wallet can be used on PS3 and PSP. You will be able to check out the PlayStation Store on the PSP soon, as we’ll have a video demo featuring Grace Chen posted soon on the Blog.
Update v5.00 adds a sleep timer option that can be used while you are playing music on your PSP. In addition, we’ve added a full screen keyboard option for text entry and have redesigned the background of the XMB. You’ll be able to find all of the information on Firmware v5.00 here once it goes live.
PS3 (v2.50) update
Now on to the PS3 v2.50 update. The latest features/enhancements include:
Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset - we’ve told you about the upcoming Bluetooth Headset and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Bundle on the Blog. This latest firmware installment enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. On top of that, an added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements - I know that many of you are busy collecting trophies and raising your PlayStation Trophy level. This update makes sharing and comparing your trophies with your friends even easier. On 1st part of the profile page you’ll see a symbol under level that represents level and the actual percentage towards the next level along with the existing level meter. The level symbol carries over to the trophy comparison screen where you will now be able to see your level, your friend’s level and the percentage towards the next level for both users along with all of the game by game comparison information you see today.
Friend status – Offline friends on your Friends list will have information below their avatars that will indicate how long it has been since they were last online.
Video – This update adds the Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will break the video up into scenes that you can quickly access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two or five minute intervals. In addition, you can now choose to have all of the videos under the video section of the XMB play in sequence. Go to Settings then Video Settings to turn this option on.
PlayStation Store – We’ve added a redeem codes option right on the store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. In addition, PlayStation Network Sign Up and Account Management have been redesigned.
Power Save Settings – You can now set your PS3 and wireless controllers to turn off automatically after set periods of inactivity. Go to Settings then Power Save Settings to turn on these features.
Background Downloading - You now have the option to set the PS3 to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system from the button under [Users] while content is being downloaded or installed.
In-game Screenshots - this tool will allow everyone to capture, share and in other words, immortalize their favorite gameplay moments. This will be supported on a game by game basis. Please check back to find out which games will support this feature.
In addition to all of the features above there are some additional features and enhancements included in 2.50. Once the update launches, you can read all of the details here.
The support for the Bluetooth Headset will be of particular interest to all of you SOCOM fans. With the “Proximity Chat” feature, SOCOM: Confrontation gameplay is intensified as it allows you to experience high-quality voice playback in full surround sound. Whether the action is near or far, Proximity Chat clearly matches distance to sound effects and voiceovers within the game, putting you in the heart of the action.
Enjoy and please share your thoughts with us.

Sony has told Eurogamer that a LittleBigPlanet PS3 bundle will arrive here on 31st October.
The cost: GBP 299.99. The contents: a copy of LittleBigPlanet and an 80GB PS3.
LittleBigPlanet will be released a week earlier on 24th October, and is also one of the headline acts at the Eurogamer Expo on 28th and 29th October in London.
Sony has stacked its chips on the cutesy platform-cum-toolset-cum-community game as a Christmas PS3 system seller, and, luckily, the goods have matched the hype.

via Games Industry
Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai has reiterated Sony's commitment to the current set of PlayStation 3 price points for the rest of this year, insisting that the platform is a "very good value proposition".
"The answer is yes, if you're asking, 'Are these the prices we're going with this Christmas?'" he told the FT. "When you really compare apples to apples, then I think we have a very good value proposition."
While the PlayStation 3 has always been positioned as a premium product, console sales will be under pressure following the recent Xbox 360 price cut, and any possible consumer reaction to the global financial downturn, with this Christmas seen as a key point in the Sony hardware's life cycle.
But Hirai remains confident that the videogames business will buck the current market difficulties: "As long as we can generate excitement, then we will be less affected than other industries," he said, although he did concede that "we're getting to the point where price becomes more important".
The Tokyo-based company opted to add more value to the existing price points in Japan last week with the announcement that it would ship 80GB consoles with a free game for the same amount as the 40GB SKU sold for previously - JPY 39,980 (USD 397).

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/10/12/...spelunker-psn/
Spelunker is a remake of the NES classic from Irem. Does it look familiar to you? Do you remember the game from way back in the day, 20 years ago? If you do, it's probably because the aesthetics haven't changed much. Though boasting updated, modern graphics, the game's visuals retain a retro-stylized feel. The 2D characters are still there. The lifts and ladders are still in the places they would've been. Overall, it looks like an interesting title for those old-school gamers looking for a blast from the past.
Of course, the question is: How does it play? First off, the controls are simple enough. It's a 2D game with a focus on platform jumping, with other actions including: riding down elevators; leaping over pits; climbing ladders; and dodging fire, steam, and toxic liquids. You can collect items such as bombs to demolish obstacles in your way, or keys in order to progress through locked sections of a stage. It all sounds very simple, familiar and arcadey -- in other words, a perfect fit for a PSN game. Right?
Despite sounding like something we might want to play, our time with the title didn't earn it any new friends. The game can be unforgiving at times; perhaps because the design incorporates not only a retro look and structure, but many archaic and rigid design mechanics of days gone by. Think of this title as presenting another old-school mechanics revival a la Mega Man 9. The controls seem rather broken, unfortunately, as it's easy to overshoot jumps towards ladders simply by accidentally tapping a directional button after latching on. Death occurs frequently if you forget that you can't drop down the seemingly shallow pits – remember, we're back to instant-death traps with this one.
In that respect, gamers who played this game back in the day will probably end up loving this update. To them, things like the classic boulder chase scenes should easily tap into those feelings of nostalgia. It's not all old stuff, though, as Spelunker seems to feature all-new, four-player split-screen gameplay.
Despite such a boon, Spelunker still feels too much like a niche title that perhaps only a few could truly enjoy. So far Irem hasn't made any announcements about taking it out of Japan, though it would make a great deal of sense if it did -- in fact, the HUD is already in English.

We're still recovering from our trip to TGS (in fact, we're still here in Tokyo). However, we thought you'd appreciate this list of new games which will definitely be supporting Trophies when they release on the PS3. Big first-party and third-party titles can be found on this list:
Demon's Soul
Derby Time Online
Gomibako
Quantum Theory
Resident Evil 5
Street Fighter IV
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3
Unfortunately, the status of other big PS3 games, like Final Fantasy XIII, is still TBD. To check out the full list of Trophy-supported games on PS3, don't forget to check out PS3 Fanboy's Trophy Portal.

An article purported to be from the Associated Press has been floating around today that very casually dates PlayStation's Home for November 19 -- coincidentally, the same day as the New Xbox Experience launch. The origins of this version stem from The Inquirer ("Sony, Microsoft begin battle of virtual worlds"). It's also interesting to note that the article does not mention NXE's simultaneous launch date.
When you search the AP website, however, you will instead come across a "Sony, Microsoft virtual communities to start" from the same day (via Yahoo!). In this version, Home is "dated" for "later this year," while NXE is coming November 19. Both pieces also use the exact same quotes from Enterbrain's Hirokazu Hamamura, Sony's Ryoji Akagawa and Microsoft's John Schappert. It's likely that the former piece was an earlier, now-corrected draft from the AP or a gross misread by The Inquirer (and subsequently propagated from there).
It should also be noted that at Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference this weekend, the company announced an open beta for Home would be launching in Japan this month and end in November. We've gone ahead and contacted Sony and AP to confirm.

It all begins here, folks. You're about to be inundated with quality titles from now until Christmas. Dead Space is one we've been eagerly anticipating, so it's great to see its release in the US and Asia this week. Even better that it'll be waiting for us when we return from TGS. Other notable releases include SOCOM, Rock Revolution and Saints Row 2. When we say "notable," we don't necessarily mean that in a good way. Here's the full release list:
US Games:
Dead Space
Blitz II: The League
FIFA Soccer 2009
SOCOM: Confrontation (with headset)
SOCOM: Confrontation (without headset)
Rock Revolution
Saints Row 2
Saints Row 2 Collector's Edition
Golden Axe: Beast Rider
EU Games:
PES 2009
Saints Row 2
Golden Axe: Beast Rider
Rapala Fishing Frenzy
Asian Games:
Dead Space
NBA 2K9
FIFA Soccer 09
Facebreaker
Release dates are constantly subject to change, almost completely by random. If you're worried, clarify with your local retailer. PS3 games are region free, so go ahead and import any game in the list above. Be aware, however, that DLC is region locked, so those downloadable Dead Space suits will only bought if manage to grab them from the appropriate PSN Store.
