The retailers were right. Konami has finally officially announced a June 12 North American launch date for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the PlayStation Vita and it's unsurprisingly June 12 in North America. The Vita port includes new control options, utilizing the touch-screen and rear touchpad, allowing players to "zoom in on captivating cut-scenes, peek around corners, interrogate enemies, cycle through weapons, and perform rapid attacks with their knife."
In addition to the new control options, the PS Vita version of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection can use Transfarring to sync save files with the PS3 game. Of course to use this feature you need to own Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on both the PS3 and PS Vita.

Sony has introduced a Steam-like ‘pre-buy’ feature on PSN.
It allows gamers to pay for an unreleased title that is then downloaded and stored on their PS3. When release day finally arrives Sony then unlocks the title from the hard drive and it is available to play immediately.
Furthermore, the first game to use this feature – upcoming Move title Sorcery – is available to pre-buy right now from the European version of PSN.
Pre-buy installations could prove a very useful tool to publishers who wish to promote the digital versions of their titles over physical releases.
Downloading a new 9GB console game on the day of release could, quite literally, take all day. However, if said title had been previously downloaded and installed already then gamers could be very tempted with the speed and convenience of such a service.

Burnout developer searching for software engineer to 'implement inter-operation' with PS3
Guildford studio Criterion has begun hiring staff for a new Vita title, according to a job listing.
As reported by Eurogamer, the Burnout developer is looking for a software engineer to be responsible for “optimising and tuning the game resource system for the PS Vita".
Other duties include "interfacing with the game engine with several parts of the Vita OS" and “implementing interoperation between PS3 and Vita”.
Since being uncovered however, the job listing has been amended to omit mention of Vita development, referring instead to “new” platforms.
Criterion has developed games such as the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and the Burnout series.

Activision is to air a new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer during this Saturday's Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
There's no word on what will be shown but we can expect some futuristic fireworks to keep viewers entertained if they're not stuck at the bar at half-time. It seems unlikely that it'll offer anything other than a cinematic look at the game's campaign, but we can't wait to get our first look at the game's multiplayer component.Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said last Wednesday that the publisher is "incredibly pleased" with early Black Ops 2 pre-orders, "which in the first week since reveal are tracking ahead of the record-breaking pace set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3".

Criterion Games, developer of the excellent Burnout series and 2010's equally brilliant Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, seems to be gearing up to work on a PS Vita game.
A job advert spotted by internet sleuthSuperannuation calls for a software engineer to join the developer to work on "optimising and tuning the game resource system for the PS Vita", "interfacing the game engine with several parts of the Vita OS" and "implementing interoperation between PS3 and the Vita".Based on the studio's history a new Burnout or Need for Speed title seems like a safe bet. EA has confirmed it will be releasing a new Need for Speed this year. Rumours suggest it might be a Criterion-developed Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2.
The Guilford based studio has teased "lots to share over the coming months" and some "big" announcements in the pipeline.

Grandma sure did like playing Rainbow Six: Vegas on that old PSP when you'd make your weekly homage for family dinner, didn't she? "Blap! Blap! Blap!" she'd shout. And things really haven't been the same since you traded up to a Vita, what with its lack of support for many PSP titles. We understand.
Thankfully, so does Sony. This morning, the US PlayStation blog announced today's launch of several PSP games on the Vita (including Grandma's fave), as well as a variety of PSP Minis (full list after the break). As usual, if you already own the games digitally for your PSP, all you'll have to do is re-download the files to your PSN-tied Vita. If not, well, you'll have to pony up some virtual cash.
Interestingly, Sony also mentioned "improved playability" for some titles beyond the up-res'd graphics – we're checking to see what exactly that means. The line has since been removed from Sony's blog post.

The full PlayStation downloads list for April – as opposed to the sneak peek we got thanks to Pulse earlier this month, where the list is not segregated by platform – has been released and Ubisoft's I Am Alive was indeed the top download. On the PS3 and PSN list, thatgamecompany's Journey followed Ubisoft's long-awaited title. Reverge Labs' debut Skullgirls managed to snag the third spot.
On the PS Vita side, Escape Plan continued to dominate – no surprise since there's not much else for the PS Vita right now, though that changes today.Modern Warfare 3's Content Collection #1 drop on PSN also did well, topping out the PS3 add-on category. Finally, Final Fantasy VII was the top PSOne Classic, but then again you already knew that because it's always Final Fantasy VII.

Like the TARDIS, the PS3 is "bigger on the inside," capable of holding an entirely new Doctor Who adventure within its slim casing. The BBC announced today that Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be released "globally" on PlayStation Network Wednesday, May 23, and in UK retail the following Friday. "We really appreciate your patience as we've been making sure the game is perfect for all you eager fans," said executive producer Simon Harris, referencing the two-month delay of the game, which made the title unfortunately ironic.
The brief announcement on the PlayStation Blog did not offer any release dates for the announced PC or PlayStation Vita versions. It also doesn't tell us if the game will finally reveal the fate of the Doctor's daughter Samantha.

Despite being a huge bummer for everyone involved, the end of the world can at least be counted on as a magnanimous source of drama and spectacle. Naughty Dog's latest game, The Last of Us, aims to leverage the studio's sophisticated technology and credible presentation to forge a more intense connection between players and their on-screen avatars. If it succeeds, your actions will stem from the same paranoia, hesitation and fierce bravery coming from Joel and Ellie, two survivors of modern civilization's mysterious closure.

Sony is boldly experimenting with the idea of a brain training game on a handheld. "Smart As," coming to Vita this fall, is a "social brain training experience" that calculates players' Brain Power through daily exercises based on 20 different puzzle games – and then encourages them to compete with their friends with online leaderboards and Facebook integration.
The 20 brain games fall into the categories of "Logic, Arithmetic, Language, and Observation," and use all of the Vita's input methods, including cameras, AR, and both touchscreens. Regional challenges will give you more to do based on where you are when you play it.
What part of the brain makes you able to understand Near? Because we don't have that.

May 17th, 2012, 14:10 Posted By: wraggster
EA and Activision have reached a settlement in a lawsuit that began two years ago, pertaining to the profit rights of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
No details about the settlement are currently available, but both companies said today that they will file a settlement agreement in Los Angeles' California state court.
Former Infinity Ward developers Jason West and Vince Zampella sued Activision in 2010 after being fired, claiming damages of $36 million from unpaid royalties associated with Modern Warfare 2, which launched in 2009. After leaving Activision, the pair began their own studio, Respawn Entertainment, and inked a publishing deal with EA. Since then, West and Zampella's claim rose to $1 billion and Activision countersued with EA as a defendant.
Activision recently paid out $42 million to the Infinity Ward Employee Group, though not as a settlement; at the time, IWEG said it would pursue litigation.
The settlement news comes the same day as a report on Activision's "dirt"-digging tactics has surfaced, stating that Activision launched an information-gathering IT spree on West and Zampella just before the launch of Modern Warefare 2,intended to see them both fired. Activision called it "Project Icebreaker."
No joke.
In Project Icebreaker, Activision's George Rose asked the IT department to access West and Zampella's email, voicemail and computer without anyone's knowledge, a court filing given to Giantbomb by West and Zampella's attorneys shows. The orders reportedly came from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. Activision attempted to use third-party security specialists and threw around the idea of staging a fake fumagation to get into West and Zampella's offices, the report says.
But now the case is settled -- any verdict on the level of sanity of gaming companies is, however, still out.

The next in line for THQ’s Saints Row series may already be in the works, if a Volition employee’s Linkedin info is to be believed.
Superannuation uncovered the mention of Saints Row 4 on the Linkedin profile of David Payne, an artist for Volition who has worked on sevral games in the franchise. Along with lead prop and weapon artist for the yet to be announced fourth effort, Payne’s credits also include work on Saints Row 2, Saints Row 3, and its standalone expansion Enter the Dominatrix.
According to Payne’s listing, Saints Row 4 is to see release on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
Both THQ and Volition have yet to comment on the supposed leak, and it’s doubtful they will anytime soon with the aforementioned third title’s expansion slated for September of this year.
Update: Payne’s profile has since been updated to remove mention of the unannounced title.

Japan shmup developer Cave has begun trimming back on its development output by cancelling two upcoming games for PS Vita.
As reported by Famitsu, via Siliconera, the two titles to be dropped are social war-themed game Shirotsuku and an unannounced shooter.
The news of the cancellations comes despite its recent plans to enter the social market to help revive its poor sales forecasts for the next year.
In January, the studio also announced reduced earnings forecasts for the year ahead, and blamed difficulties in the consumer games market and retailers not buying into its products.
Its latest Europe release, Akai Katana, has also suffered from poor sales.

Sony’s multimedia credentials have been given a big boost this morning with news of a dedicated BBC Sport app heading to PS3 and connected Sony Bravia TVs.
The app will sit alongside the BBC News and BBC iPlayer apps on the Sony Entertainment Network and will launch in time for Wimbledon at the end of June.
Furthermore, the app will offer the BBC’s full suite of London Olympics 2012 coverage, with 2,500 hours of content spread across 24 simultaneous HD live streams.
“Launching this app to millions of PS3 owners in the UK will be a very welcome addition to PlayStation’s universal entertainment credentials,” SCE UK’s marketing director Alan Duncan stated.
Sony category development manager for Bavia Edd Uzzell added: “Televised sport is one of the biggest rating wins for broadcasters. This truly is a killer app and will provide a substantial amount of additional sporting content that you can’t get through the current broadcasting model.
“We strongly believe this will kick-start more widespread usage of the connected television offering, providing sport fans using the app with in-depth big-screen coverage of their favourite events. The app will also have extensive penetration in the UK thanks to its availability on PS3.”

Superbike racer SBK Generations will prosper as it has no competition this year, says the game’s developer Milestone.
Rival Capcom usually releases a fresh instalment in its licensed Moto GP series each year, but has confirmed to MCV it is not doing so in 2012.
That means SBK is the only boxed biking game out this year.
“As a Top 10 franchise, we are confident that SBK Generations will perform very strongly at retail,” Milestone’s marketing manager Davide Bilotta told MCV.
“When you consider it is the only superbike racer this year – as there is no Moto GP title – the fact that it is the best SBK ever developed and the official game of the World Super Bike Championships, it really is a must stock title.”
Generations will be the headline sponsor of Motors TV’s prime-time show Bike World throughout May.
The programme reaches 12m homes in the UK and 21m worldwide.
Banner ads will go live on bikechannel.com, while a PR campaign will target games publications and specialist motorcycle titles.
SBK Generations will hit UK shelves next month on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC via PQube.

Content policy won't change on in-development titles, but new direction considered
Capcom has backtracked on its policy of releasing on-disc DLC after negative feedback from its customers.
In a message on the publisher’s official forum, Senior VP Christian Svensson said staff at the company had been listening to customers and would now be "re-evaluating" how such content is delivered for future games.
Svensson admitted however that many upcoming titles already in development, such as Dragon’s Dogma, would still include on-disc DLC as the decision to include it “was made at the beginning of the game’s development”.
Capcom recently came under fire from customers after it was revealed that Street Fighter X Tekken had 12 finished characters hidden on the disc, which would be made available at a later date for $20, or 1600 Microsoft points.
A spokesperson for the company then sparked further furore over the policy when they said “there is effectively no distinction" between on-Disc DLC and through download at a later date.
