It appears a Vita tie-in game for Assassin’s Creed III is in the works.
A NeoGAF forum user has posted details from an issue of Game Informer which supposedly contains a preview of Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation for the PS Vita.
The posting follows a VG247 report last week that the title was listed (and subsequently pulled) by retailer Zavvi.
If the information is true, Liberation takes place in New Orleans in the same time period as AC3, and features a female protagonist.
The game is in development by Ubisoft Sofia and will release alongside Assassin’s Creed III on October 30th. Multiplayer ‘tailored to the Vita experience’ was also mentioned.
No official word from Ubisoft yet. With E3 this week and specifically the publisher’s press conference later today, odds are we’ll know the validity of the info very soon.

The undisputed star of Konami's pre-E3 broadcast was Platinum Games' Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, with a new trailer showing how the game has changed since development duties were passed to the Bayonetta studio earlier this year.
Set nine years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, players control Raiden, the cybernetic warrior last put in players' hands inMetal Gear Solid 2. "Now, Raiden has grown up," said Kojima Studios writer Etsu Tamari. "But he is still sutffering from the wounds of the civil war he fought. He's become a hero with a dark past, one constantly haunted by this guilt."
The game retains the focus on directional slashing that was in the original trailer for the game, unveiled in 2009. Footage showed Raiden jumping towards a helicopter, time slowing down as he slices it into pieces with his katana - though players will have several weapons to choose from. The mechanic can also be used to clear a path through obstructions, and game director Kenji Sato said players would be able to slash certain background objects and use them as weapons.
Rising, Sato said, is "first and foremost an action game," a logical consequence of it being in Platinum's hands: studio producerAtsushi Inaba said he believed his firm was "the best action game company in the world. Our goals are simple: we want players to enjoy our games, and for that experience to be as easy and intuitive to control as possible."
Raiden's movement is clearly as important as the slashing mechanic. There are air combos, and a Ninja Dash system used for traversal through the game's environments. With the HUD stripped away, it was often hard to tell just how much of the action was realtime as opposed to an in-engine cutscene, but it's fast, fluid, bloody stuff.
Kojima Studios creative producer Yuji Korekado, who was Rising's producer before the game was passed to Platinum, said: "Within the series, Raiden has always been a really cool character with incredible action scenes, but they were always cutscenes. Rising will allow players to control Raiden, and really enjoy those amazing action sequences for the first time as a player.
"When the decision was made to outsource the game, there really was only one choice. We knew it had to be Platinum, a company that has brought so many great action games to the world."
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in early 2013, with rumours building that a Vita version is also in the works. A demo will be included with the Zone Of The Enders HD Collection, and the game will be playable for the first time at Konami's E3 booth.

Industry rumour suggests streaming service will bring additional PS1 and PS2 games to PS3
A rumoured partnership between Sony and cloud gaming specialist Gaikai could be to bring more PlayStation and PS2 titles to current formats.
Sources have apparently told GamesIndustry International that the service will include past first-party games and will allow third-party publishers to sell their back catalogue to PS3 owners.
Publishers that have already signed up to Gaikai's PC offering include Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Capcom.
Rumours of a Sony deal with Gaikai emerged earlier this week. It is not clear if it includes PS Vita or other Sony devices, such as TVs and tablets.
The current model of PS3 is not compatible with PS2 games. Limited compatibility was featured in the launch models.

Amazingly, Zipper Interactive servers for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs have continued to be active since the game's original debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2002, meaning that crazy peoplededicated fans with online adapter-equipped PS2s have been able to keep playing for nearly 10 years. Now though, since Zipper Interactive doesn't exist anymore and everything, the servers for four PS2 SOCOM games and four PSP SOCOM titles will be taken offline at the end of August.
PlayStation 2 SOCOMs I, II, and III (as well as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault) will be going dark, as will the PSP various SOCOM titles,Fireteam Bravo (I, II and III) and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strke.
If this outage affects your regular gaming routine, we offer our most sincere condolences. Also, we'd like to point out that many thousands of games have been released since 2002, some of which you might enjoy. Perhaps this will be a good opportunity to go check some of 'em out?

Dead Space 3's imminently expected official announcement has received its latest harbinger in the form of a set of screenshots making their way through the internet. The screens hint at co-op gameplay for the latest installment in the blue-spine tingling thriller series.
Playing into the authenticity of the screens is that they appear to feature Earthgov Sergeant John Carver, recently introduced in the "Dead Space Graphic Novel Short."
EA's E3 press conference is scheduled for 1PM Pacific on Monday, June 4. Don't be surprised if necromorphs are featured prominently at some point during the presentation.

Industry veteran and former Sony executive Richard Browne delves into Sony's video game history and asks, "Can they rise again?"
I have to preface this article by noting that I have long term ties to Sony. I was an employee of Psygnosis when Sony bought the Liverpool company back in the early '90s. Because of this tie I've been a long time supporter of Sony, and some have even deemed me a fanboy, which to some extent I probably am, or was. You'll forgive me if any of that comes out here.
Pre-Playstation
Sony's rise to prominence in the gaming business began in the early '90s when they entered into an agreement with Nintendo to produce a CD-Rom drive for the Super Nintendo. At the time I was working at Psygnosis, and as pioneers in the CD-Rom field we were early into discussions around the format. Psygnosis was working very quietly on a Star Wars CD game with Lucasarts; it was in its formative stages but the work the company had done with CD technology to date put them in good stead (alas, the contract to do the game would never get signed). When the SNES CD drive became a possibility, Psygnosis started working with DMA Design in Dundee (who had been highly successful partners from Menace to Blood Money to the infamous Lemmings) to try and emulate how the system would work.
By CES of January 1992 DMA had an emulated demo of the Star Wars game running on a SNES with a mega-cartridge dropped on top of it to simulate the CD drive and some aspect of its immense capacity. The demo was pretty spectacular, as was the falling out that Sony and Nintendo subsequently had over how their business relationship would work. As history will report, Nintendo ditched the concept of CDs and Sony went to work on building their own games console to take on its formerly proposed partner.
"The real genius of the PlayStation was its marketing. Sony realized that people who played games were growing up; it wasn't just a kids-focused business anymore"
Psygnosis and Sony had started business dealings in other parts of their respective organizations, in Sony's case through Imagesoft. Psygnosis worked on a number of titles through this relationship - Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Last Action Hero (in which Arnold Schwarzenegger was infamously not allowed to be seen holding guns), and Mickey Manic with Traveller's Tales to name just a few - but it was when Sony decided to enter the hardware business that the relationship became more formal.
PlayStation
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was just one bloke - one Phil Harrison - but clearly Sony understood it would need more than just Phil on the ground to build a console division. With that in mind, and with other potential suitors waiting in the wings, Sony made the decision to purchase Psygnosis and put its joint MDs Jonathan Ellis and Ian Hetherington in charge of the new-found company. Initially, SCEE was set up to be a Publisher; rather smartly Sony realized that to sell hardware it would need a sales and distribution channel and with Psygnosis as a basis they could build and grow just that. For several months Phil would travel up to Liverpool for the week to work at our offices though in time Ian and Jonathan would open Sony's first London base on Golden Square from which the Company would work. SCEE began releasing a slate of cartridge games across Europe and the infrastructure began to grow.
In the meantime Sony Japan had been hard at work creating the PSX as it was well known, and relatively early on in its life a prototype appeared amongst much secrecy in Liverpool. When people refer to that first machine as a photocopier they really aren't exaggerating overly. It was large, noisy and ran very hot. Nothing ever changes with prototype hardware it seems. The Advanced Technology Group at Psygnosis (of which I was part) started to try playing with it immediately before running into what could only be described as a slight problem.
The only way to program the system was through NeXT workstations. We didn't have any. In fact most of us had never even heard of them. Through some pioneering research one of the team found two existed in England, at a Sony dealership in Basingstoke. They were quickly dispatched to the Psygnosis offices so the team could actually start to figure the machine out. What was clear though was this was going to be a problem, there was no way this machine was going to go mainstream if the programming toolset for it was almost impossible to acquire.
Fortune sometimes smiles and fate sometimes pulls through. Not long before the whole Sony Psygnosis marriage occurred we'd been looking to sign up the best and the brightest 3rd party developers in the UK. Andrew Spencer was one such man we signed up, we worked with Archer McLean on Super Dropzone, and I'd been in touch with the guys at the Assembly Line because I had been incredibly impressed with their work on Xenon 2 - and Adrian Stephens was working on this amazing Stunt Island game with Disney.

The signs are pointing to an acquisition of Gaikai at the hands of Sony.
Yesterday MCV exclusively revealed that Sony was on the cusp of purchasing a high profile cloud gaming firm, thought to be either Gaikai or OnLive.
Now this morning Gaikai has sent out invitations to journalists for what it is heralding as a game-changing announcement.
“Gaikai has some major announcements in store for E3 that have the potential to change the future of video games, game consoles and how we play,” it reads.
It is unlikely that the deal means Sony is abandoning more traditional models for the PS4, but it does mean that it intends to diversify its offering. Expect disc-based games to soon become simply one option amongst many.

Insomniac Games has announced that a new “fun-sized” Ratchet & Clank game for PS3, titled Ratchet & Clank: QForce, is scheduled for release this Autumn to celebrate the franchise’s ten-year anniversary.
In the US, the game will be called Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault and will be available digitally only, while a Blu-ray version is headed to Europe and India.
QForce will return the series to its classic third-person camera perspective. The game will also include multiplayer, but CEO Ted Price didn’t go into any details in his post over at the PlayStation Blog.
While QForce is still a few months away, remastered versions of PS2 classics Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded, and Ratchet & Clank 3 will be available via the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy for the PS3 in early June.

Platform holder Sony claims the growing appetite for digital content is helping grow the sales of ‘full console’ games.
The format-holder releases some games on PSN and at retail on the same day to make them “as accessible as possible”.
“The world is changing at a rapid rate and the appetite for digital content is growing equally fast,” SCEE’s new release manager Robert Walker told MCV.
“We feel that the best thing to do is allow the gamers to decide how and where they purchase their content. To make that happen, it is our job to make our content as accessible as possible, whether that is at retail or via digital delivery.
“The more accessible content is, the more likely consumers are to purchase it.”
His comments come as Sony America announces a ‘PS3 Ultimate Deals’ promotion, which offers full game downloads for a lower price when bought with extra DLC. Standard PSN users can receive 30 per cent off the overall price, while paying PSN Plus subscribers save 50 per cent overall.
It’s the first time downloadable PS3 games have been priced much lower than their full RRPs, which are usually £49.99. For example, inFamous 2 and its DLC has been cut to $23.79.
Walker added: “How [this space] evolves over time is very difficult to predict.
“But what we can say is that as a business, we take this area very seriously, and have to make sure that we are constantly monitoring both technological advancements, as well as consumer demands.”

Activision is targeting the die-hard Transformer fans with its pre-order DLC offering in the US for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
The publisher has announced that customers who pre-order the game from either GameStop or EB Games in the US will receive a code to unlock a generation one version of Autobot leader Optimus Prime for use in-game.
The design isn’t a direct G1 port – it differs from the original design – but is certainly a very close fit while staying true to High Moon Studios’ FOC aesthetic.
Also offered are a G1-inspired Megatron Gun and Shockwave Blast Cannon.
Those who pre-order from Amazon, meanwhile, receive a skin to make the game’s all-star combiner Bruticus more accurately represent the character’s G2 colours.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be released in the UK on August 31st.

Sony and Microsoft are both gearing up for their E3 press conferences next week, and while neither company is likely to shed much (if any) light on next-gen plans, The Wall Street Journal has offered up an interesting tidbit, suggesting that Sony did consider completely abandoning physical game discs for PlayStation 4 but ultimately decided against such a move.
The Journal cites "people familiar with the matter" and notes that Sony is still targeting said, opting to include optical disk drives rather than break with a decades-old model in the industry a 2013 release for the successor to PS3.
While there has been plenty of speculation about the PS4 or "Orbis" possibly including some anti-used games technology, an all digital console certainly would make that a moot point. Ultimately, the report suggests that Sony decided against going all online with Orbis because Internet connectivity is still too inconsistent around the world. Large game files and a bad web connection would not be a good combination for Sony's customers.
If we had to guess, Sony's next-gen console will take an approach similar to Vita, where much of the content is available digitally but will also be sold at brick-and-mortar. As for E3, according to analysts, Sony's focus will be on showcasing its core content on PS3, demonstrating that there are actually plenty of reasons to buy a Vita, and revealing the next phase of its digital plans on PSN.

The latest game to benefit from the PlayStation Pub Fund is Guacamelee, a side-scrolling puzzle platformer from DrinkBox Studios.
Described by studio COO Graham Smith as a “Mexican-themed co-op-multiplayer dimension-swapping Metroid-vania beat-em-up platformer”, Guacamelee is headed to both the PS3 and PS Vita. Smith promised that the game will leverage the strengths of both platforms, although he didn’t divulge any specifics on what those were.
The PlayStation Pub Fund was started by Sony in 2009 to help indie developers bring unique experiences to PlayStation gamers. Games such as Joe Danger and Tales from Space: About a Blob have benefitted from the program in the past.

Sony is close to agreeing a deal to acquire either Gaikai or OnLive, according to reports.
Reports last weekend claimed that Sony was to announce a partnership with a major cloud gaming firm during its E3 press conference next Monday. However, a source has told MCV that Sony's interest in the cloud runs far deeper than that, and that an outright acquisition is "close to being signed."
What's not known at this point is whether the deal is intended for Sony's consoles, or its range of TVs. The latter is more believable at this point, especially given the recent deal which has seenGaikai integrated in LG Smart TVs.
By contrast, a console deal would be a real shock, and not just to retailers - and if a deal is close, our money's on it being with David Perry's company. Speaking at CES in January, Gaikai chief product officer Nanea Reeves said: "Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3." Sony spent heavily on PS3, of course, and its high price consigned it to an early third place from which it has never recovered. Could the PlayStation 4 be a Bravia TV, with cloud gaming innards?
Expect more to be revealed at Sony's E3 conference, which takes place on Monday 6pm PST - or 2am on Tuesday. We'll be there, of course, ensuring a steady flow of timely coverage so you don't miss a thing; the best way to keep on top of it is by keeping a close eye on our E3 2012 topic page.

Bethesda Softworks has announced Doom 3 BFG Edition, which includes remastered versions of the original game and Resurrection Of Evil add-on pack, and revealed that the game will be coming to consoles as well as PC.
BFG Edition also includes seven new levels grouped together under the title The Lost Mission.
Bethesda's press release promises "greatly enhanced graphics," which includes improved rendering, lighting and the addition of 3D; 5.1 surround sound; Xbox 360 achievements and PlayStation 3 Trophies; and a new checkpoint save system to smooth progress through the nerve-shredding game.
And, perhaps best of all, an armour-mounted flashlight will reduce both panicked blind-firing and the frustration of the original game's insistance of making players swap between the torch or weapon.
“Doom 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” says id Software technical director John Carmack.
“Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.
"New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”
BFG Edition will include the original Doom and Doom 2 to add to your extensive collection of versions. Overall, a package that should help tide us over until Doom 4 finally surfaces.
Bethesda recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Doom's predecessor, Wolfenstein 3D with a browser version of the game and creator's commentary by Carmack himself.

Sony has announced a temporary price cut for PlayStation Vita in France, a limited offer that will take place from June 1 to July 15.
Customers will be entitled to a rebate of €50 (£39.87) on console purchases during the promotion's duration. Unfortunately, Sony doesn't intend to replicate the offer in other territories.
“With this offer we want to make it more accessible to the greatest number throughout the approaching summer vacation,” SCE Europe VP Philippe Cardon explained.
A spokesperson for SCE UK added "This is a limited retail price promotion that is only available for a short space of time in France."

You're always in a hurry to learn the controls of a new game in the bustle and din of a press event. You might pick a few things up from a tutorial card resting near the screen, from a patient developer stationed nearby, or through one of those loading screens that can barely contain a controller and 29 labels, bursting out of it like informative tentacles. When Vikings Attack, a new party game for PlayStation 3 and Vita, stood out at recent Sony press event because it's filled with clutter, yet wrapped in the simplicity of two-button play.
Presented with vibrant, cel-shaded aplomb, When Vikings Attack is essentially a game of crowd-versus-crowd control. You maneuver a cluster of portly citizens, brought together in the face of an inexplicable, anachronistic viking invasion of 1970s England. The number of people in your crowd is an indicator of your speed, health and strength, and more able bodies can lift larger and heavier objects.
That's right: the secret to thwarting the Norsemen of the apocalypse is to pick up the manufactured detritus of civilization, such as benches, cars, ambulances and phone booths, and hurl it at incoming streams of invaders. It's a bit like bowling, with mismatched, costumed people for pins, and balls coming in every shape, size and seriously you can throw everything at everyone.

Hey, in case you didn't know, that Smash Bros.-esque PlayStation 3 game,PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, is very likely also heading to PlayStation Vita. How likely? Pretty freakin' likely, especially considering the recently discovered group of domain registrations from Sony Computer Entertainment of America tied to URLs like "PlaystationAllStarsVita.com," "PS-AllStarsVita.com," and "PSAllStarsBattleRoyaleVita.com."
As with so many of these discoveries, Superannuation spotted the URLs – URLs that pretty clearly identify a Vita-based version of the brawler. We'll be saying this a lot this week, so get used to it: we've reached out to Sony for more info, but only got "we don't comment on rumor or speculation" in return. We expect more info next week during E3.

Snapshot isn't a new game, though this may be the first you've heard of it. Nope, Snapshot's been kicking around indie game festivals and such for quite some time (since at least 2009, if not earlier), though we now know thatSnapshot's being developed for both PSN on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
In Snapshot, you follow a little robot named (appropriately enough), "Pic," as he ventures across a puzzle-filled 2D world. By snapping square photos of the environment, Pic can alter the world around him – "taking photographs of light and using it to interact with physics" and momentum-based puzzles are both given as examples of Snapshot's gameplay twist.
The game's a Sony exclusive (at least for now), with cross-platform save functionality built-in, and it's expected some time this fall. Check out the latest trailer just above – it's quite pretty!
