After five years its time to have a fun competition to put all the hardwork that has gone into ps2sdk, pspsdk and all the other great tools to some use. The goal is simple, write your own homebrew original game in the next 2months. The best entry for PSP and PS2 win a prize. Simple!
I(Oobles) will be the official ajudicator of the competition. I won't be entering the competition and I will be one of about five judges.
What are the prizes I hear you ask!? Well, I'm hoping to get hold of a new Homebrew compatible PSP (firmware 1.5) as a prize to the best ps2 game. And I'm hoping to get hold of a new modified slim line PS2 for the best PSP game. When I've got these things confirmed, I'll update this post! Remember if you wait to find out if we get these, you'll be giving everyone else a head start.
The Basic Rules.
- There is two competitions. Best entry for PSP game and PS2 game wins.
- Games must be entered by the end of June 5th (2 months).
- Entries will be judged on Gameplay, Originality, Graphics, Sound and Polish. Scores will be out of 10 for each.
- There will be five judges for each competition.
- All games must be suitable for a teens. No Adults only content please.
- All entries must be original. (ie no ports of games)
- All entries must be submitted here with a link to where it can be downloaded. If you need a hosting location talk to me via private message.
- All entries must include a Fourth Creation splash on the openning title. (will provide images to these images soon)
- All entries must include a readme, that describes the game, the author, contact email address, and other special info.
- All entries must be freely distributable. Source code does not need to be included, but would be nice.
- Multiple entries are allowed.
- Rules (and prizes) are subject to change without notice.
The Playstation 2 competition
- Prize is hopefully a PSP with firmware 1.5 for best entry.
- Games must be playable using the PS2LINK 1.46 via Host.
- Games should be playable on at least one of PAL or NTSC (hint: working on both counts towards polish points)
- Games can be entered which require special peripherals (eg gun controls), however, judges are likely not to own the required peripherals and final scores may be highly effected by this.
The Playstation Portable competition
- Prize is hopefully a Playstation 2 ready for homebrew for best entry.
- Games must be playable on a PSP with firmware 1.5
- Games should not run in kernel mode unless you can give a good reason.
If you have any questions, please post them to this thread. If you are interested in being a judge for either competition please send me a private message. You may not enter if you are a judge.
If you would like to provide prizes, please send me an email to oobles at hotmail dot com
Goodluck!

Sony has announced more details of Tekken Dark Resurrection, the first PSP instalment in the hit beat-'em-up series.
It'll feature more than 30 customisable characters, including newcomers Dragunov and Lili, our old friend the Armor King and lots of other familiar faces. You can spend the money you earn from fights on new stuff for your character - apparently there are twice as many items to choose from than there were in Tekken 5.
Game modes will include Arcade Battle, which sees you fighting your way to fame and glory, and Quick Battle, which lets you take part in one-on-one or team battles against the CPU. Team Battle allows up to eight players compete in a knockout tournament.
Story Battle lets you find out all about your character's history, while Tekken Dojo sees you fighting for the title of Tekken Lord as you battle in a series of Dojos based on a private island owned by Mishima Zaibatsu.
Then there's Ad Hoc Mode, for wireless battles against real life opponents, and three attack modes - Time Attack, Survival and Gold Rush. And finally, there's the obligatory Practice mode, complete with tutorials, freestyle training and command training.
Tekken Dark Resurrection is out later this year.

April 5th, 2006, 17:47 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Computer Entertainment France president George Fornay has revealed that the PlayStation 3 will be sold for between 500 and 600 Euro when it launches in November, in the clearest indication yet of Sony's pricing strategy.
Speaking to radio station Europe 1 in an interview which has now been widely circulated online, Fornay said that the console would be available for "around 500 Euro", with his expectation being that it will be priced between 499 and 599 Euro.
Arguing in favour of this price point, Fornay said that the inclusion of Blu-Ray and HD functionality justifies the expense of the console, and that compared to other devices offering similar media functionality, the PS3 will be relatively cheap.
Before considering the price, however - which does translate to between roughly $600 and $750 dollars - it's important to bear in mind that European prices are often quoted inclusive of local sales tax, which can be in the region of 20 per cent.
As such, the final US price is likely to be significantly lower than a simple currency exchange would suggest - as low as $500 in fact, with the sales tax difference effectively cancelling out the currency exchange difference.
However, the console will still be priced higher than either the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Revolution platforms, and will be the most expensive gaming device on the market at launch - in line with Ken Kutaragi's warning that the PS3 will be "expensive", although admittedly not as bad as many analysts have predicted. In fact, a 500 Euro launch price wouldn't be far off the launch prices of many other devices, including the original PlayStation, which makes Fornay's statements seem eminently believable.
The full pricing information for the PS3 isn't expected to be officially announced until Sony's pre-E3 conference on May 9th at the very earliest, and the firm may even hold off on announcing final pricing details until closer to the November worldwide launch of the system.

George Fornay, senior vice-president of SCEE and president of SCE France, has revealed that the company's next-gen console PlayStation 3 is still bound for simultaneous launch, including Europe, this November and that the machine is expected to retail for around 500 euros - well, it'll fall somewhere in the 499 to 599 euros range anyway, apparently.
Speaking on French radio Europe 1, as reported by numerous French gaming sites, Fornay admitted that the price point could be considered high for a console - however, he was keen to point out that it's peanuts when you consider the PS3 is a high-definition platform, fully supporting the Sony-backed Blu-ray disc format.
Looking over at the well-worn CVG exchange rate abacus, we've calculated that 500 euros roughly equates to around 350 of our Great British pounds. Whether this pound value is an accurate representation of the PS3's final UK retail price when it hits stores this Autumn remains to be seen.

Source Pocketgamer
Heres some of the review:
Still, here goes: OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast is the best arcade racing you can currently play on PSP.
We can't see how anyone would realistically think otherwise. The entire racing genre is encapsulated when you speed towards the first corner in one of its 13 officially licensed Italian stallions (Ferraris, as opposed to your mum's Fiat), dab the brake while turning, and then catch the backend as it steps out with an effortless combination of steering and throttle, resulting in the most gloriously excessive powersliding in pocket gaming.
So, OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast is gorgeously challenging, its handling system delicately balanced, and the game is both technically impressive (even loading times are reasonable) and intensely entertaining – not least when battling against up to six human players via the excellent infrastructure and ad hoc options.

Having revived the classic film for consoles, Electronic Arts today makes James Bond: From Russia With Love the properly portable: the PSP edition of the game is now shipping to retailers.
Like its home-bound brethren, From Russia With Love for the PSP draws generously from the 60s-imbued film, including an in-game performance from Sean Connery himself. This version offers a new, eight-level single-player mode, Ad Hoc multiplayer, 16 Bond challenges, classic Bond gadgets and weapons, and new Bond villains to unlock.
From Russia With Love features gorgeous gals, fast action, and at least the implication of a well-made martini. The game is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB.

Source Gamespot
When it first hit the Japanese market, Sony restricted the "ceramic white" version of its popular portable to "Value Packs" and "Giga Packs," which bundled other accessories with the console. Tough luck for gamers that had already purchased all the accessories for their black PSPs and now had to purchase them again.
Now, it appears Sony wants to attract a broader demographic by subtracting the accessories and lowering the price of the white PSP, just as it has with the regular PSP. Priced at 19,800 yen ($168.48) before sales tax, the unbundled ceramic white PSP will hit store shelves on April 20 in Japan, and it will include the battery and AC adapter. Pictures of the unbundled white console and its canary-yellow packaging are available on the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Web site.

Fanjita posted this news:
A lot of people have been having problems with the Bock release, especially on v2.0 PSPs. These problems seem to be mostly due to the menu, so we've packaged a version of the release that uses the old menu. This will also be better for people who have had a problem with the file list caching feature.
Apart from the menu, this version is identical to the standard Bock release, including all the wifi support.

For the Final Fantasy fans lucky enough to be near Hollywood yesterday night -- and in line for free tickets during the middle of a regular workday -- there was much rejoicing to be had as Advent Children celebrated its U.S. theatrical premiere in style.
Siliconera has a write-up on the event with quotes from most of the American voice actors in attendance, who, along with the audience at hand, watched the film in English for the very first time. Lip synching may have been off due to the low-resolution print the actors had to work with, but even Rachel Leigh Cook -- pictured here with her character Tifa Lockheart -- declared herself a new fan of Final Fantasy after the show.
Helpful Joystiq Contributor epobirs also had something to report from the screening yesterday, where he gives us an Ain't-It-Cool style rundown of the event. If you want the rest of his reflections on the requirements of the Academy in Oscar nominations, as well as what it takes to "assert your hetero nature ... after watching a movie packed with metrosexual men," simply continue reading below for more. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children will be out on DVD/UMD April 25th.
