When it first hit the Japanese market, Sony restricted the "ceramic white" version of its popular portable to "Value Packs" and "Giga Packs," which bundled other accessories with the console. Tough luck for gamers that had already purchased all the accessories for their black PSPs and now had to purchase them again.
Now, it appears Sony wants to attract a broader demographic by subtracting the accessories and lowering the price of the white PSP, just as it has with the regular PSP. Priced at 19,800 yen ($168.48) before sales tax, the unbundled ceramic white PSP will hit store shelves on April 20 in Japan, and it will include the battery and AC adapter. Pictures of the unbundled white console and its canary-yellow packaging are available on the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Web site.
