Vivendi Universal Games' Sierra Entertainment has announced the development of Miami Vice The Game, a thrilling third-person action shooter inspired by the Universal Pictures crime drama, Miami Vice, in cinemas July 28, 2006. Set in present-day Miami, players will go deep undercover as narcotic officers Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs in the rich, glamorous and decadent world of Miami Vice -- a place where badges don't count. Developed by UK-based Rebellion, Miami Vice The Game will be available exclusively for the PSPTM (PlayStation®Portable) system in July 2006. The development of the game comes through an agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group.
"By taking full advantage of the advanced technology on the PSP system, Miami Vice The Game will deliver action-packed missions and highly-detailed locations that capture the danger-filled lives of the film's main characters and immerse players in the authentic world of Miami Vice," said Cindy Cook, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer for VU Games.
In Miami Vice The Game, players follow a storyline set just before the events of the film. Gamers must build up the nefarious reputation necessary to infiltrate the seedy underbelly of South Beach, and ultimately bring down the organization of an "untouchable" South American drug lord. Gamers can also choose to play as either Crockett or Tubbs, or team up via wireless to play each mission cooperatively.
Key game features include:
THE MIAMI VICE EXPERIENCE – Play as undercover cops Crockett and Tubbs in the notorious world of Miami Vice -- the mansions, the money, and the mayhem -- set in present-day Miami
DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE PSP SYSTEM – Experience cutting-edge motion capture, highly-detailed environments, and lighting effects inspired by the film created to maximize the technology of the PSP system
COOPERATIVE PLAY – Play as partners with wireless action
MORE THAN A STRAIGHT SHOOTER
Drug Trading – Raise needed capital and build reputation by managing drug inventory
Hacking – Unlock sensitive information (security codes, locations, etc.)
Interactive Cutscene Encounters (ICE) – Continue to boost reputation through dramatic interactive cinematic encounters with powerful drug lords
REPUTATION BUILDING DYNAMIC – Establish rep as a major player in the narcotics world through contraband trading, aggressively interacting with drug barons, and pursuing criminals with reckless abandon
HIGH-POWERED ACTION MISSIONS – Armed with intelligence from informants and utilizing hacking skills, take on the enemy in varied locations with an impressive array of weapons
BOAT GUNPLAY – Experience high-speed chases through Miami's treacherous waterways while engaging in boat-to-boat shootouts
Miami Vice The Game will be available exclusively for the PSP system in July 2006 for a suggested retail price of £34.99, with a BBFC 18+ rating.for more information, please visit the game's official website at www.miamivicepsp.com.

Source - PSP3D
Homer has just released the final version of GeMP (GameBoy/GameBoy Color Emulator/Media Player for PSP), with sources and all for developers to improve on in the future.
There are a ton of new features and fixes in v3.3, so long that we decided not to list them all in this news post. They're all listed inside the GeMP.doc file (the readme), which also includes important information on the homebrew itself and it's lifetime from start to finish.

Hello Everyone,
I've taken up the task of continuing the Nethack homebrew for the PSP, released a while ago by the honorable VMU.
DCEmu.uk will be the first to get the files!
I've been working on this baby for quite a while now and I think its time to do a release.
The game is now playable up to a certain extend. You still cannot enter text required for Wishing, Engraving or naming stuff. Expect this to work in the next update though
You can change your name and other character settings by editing the .nethackrc file found in PSP/GAMES/NetHack/. But be careful because some settings may affect the game play and you may find yourself in a configuration I did not test yet and that you don't have any graphic interface to help you.
== NEW Button Configuration ==
-- default buttons
[UP] = North / Menu UP
[DOWN] = South / Menu Down
[LEFT] = West
[RIGHT] = East

[TOP LEFT]+[TOP RIGHT]+[CIRCLE] = Known discoveries
[TOP LEFT]+[TOP RIGHT]+[SELECT] = Toggle ASCII / Graphic mode
[TOP LEFT]+[TOP RIGHT]+[START] = Switch to explorer mode
Still to do :
-------------
- A contextual menu for the 'Inventory' screen
- Display the damage made by the player
- Disable calling the context menu more than once.
- Fix Diagonal movements, they are still difficult to achieve
- Split the contextual menu in two columns
- Keyboard interface for text prompts (Wishing, naming items, etc.)
- Re-enable mouse for scrolling or find a way to display menu that are too long
- Re-enable the top-ten listing when dying or quitting
- Remove the perm_lock feature, as it can cause problems on the PSP when crashing
- Enable scrolling when in ASCII mode
- Any other suggestions?
So as you can see, there was a lot done, but there is still much to do for a fully functional Nethack. But still, with this version, I managed to get to the bottom of the mines and back.
Expect more frequent updates.

News from IGN
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced 300: March to Glory, a PSP game based on the film 300, which itself is based on a Frank Miller graphic novel. The movie features a highly stylized production design, similar to Sin City, and the game, in development at Collision Studios, will conform to the style of the film.
"We are working with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to ensure 300: March to Glory captures the look and action of the film while making it fun to play on the PSP system," said Philippe Erwin, Executive Producer for Collision.
A war movie retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, the title refers to the 300 Spartans who fought to the death against the Persian army.
"The 300 film based on Frank Miller's graphic novel offers continual action and an intense storyline that lends itself to be a striking videogame," said Warner Bros. Senior VP Jason Hall. Collision Studios believes the movie's story promises a visceral game experience focused on action and combat. Players take the role of King Leonidas, who in the film is played by Gerard Butler, The Phantom in 2004's Phantom of the Opera.
300: March to Glory will launch simultaneously with the film's release in 2007.

Article of interest from Gamespot::
Japanese news site Impress reports that Final Fantasy XI development team leaders let slip some tidbits on their next-gen plans. While talking up Treasures of Aht Urhgan--the game's latest expansion--FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka commented that his team is now working on a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game for Windows Vista and PlayStation 3. He also shared his thoughts on porting games to new hardware, including bringing FFXI to the PS3 as well as the PSP.
Tanaka didn't provide any details on his as-yet untitled game for Vista and PS3, perhaps holding something back for a formal announcement at E3 in May. However, he did make some interesting comments about developing for the Xbox 360 versus the PlayStation 3.
The Xbox 360 operating system shares enough similarities with Windows, he said, so that porting the Windows version of FFXI to the 360 was a fairly quick task. A PS3 version of FFXI, on the other hand, would require redeveloping the game almost from scratch, a process that Tanaka estimated would take two or three years.
As a result, FFXI will emphatically not be a launch title for the PS3. In fact, Tanaka did not commit to bringing out FFXI for the PS3 at any time. He feels that the resources required to port the game to PS3 might be better invested in a new game that's built from the ground up for next-gen hardware--but his team has yet to make a final decision one way or another.
Asked about FFXI on the PSP, Tanaka notes that although a fully playable version of the game is probably not realistic, he could envision enabling some functions--like auctions and chat--for PSP users. However, his team has not had time to work on a handheld version of the game, and without evidence of overwhelming user demand, it seems unlikely that it will happen.

IGN have done a great hands on of the game 50 Cent: Bulletproof which is coming soon to PSP, heres an excerpt:
The PSP version of Bulletproof contains all of the videos and tracks that the console version has, but you'll also find an extra 40+ minute behind-the scenes documentary with G-Unit. It takes a look at their every day on goings and not necessarily anything directly tied to the game, so 50 Cent and G-Unit fans will definitely want to see that.
50 Cent: Bulletproof is currently scheduled for release sometime later this year, so check back for more info soon as the game is scheduled to make an appearance at E3 next month.

Five people have been arrested at a computer fair in Wolverhampton for selling pirated games, modified chips and 'chipped' consoles, following a raid by 30 local Police and Trading Standards officers.
The raid took place on the evening of Tuesday 11th April, following successful test purchases by an ELSPA investigator on behalf of Wolverhampton City Council Trading Standards.
The two stalls targeted were offering games and digital media made to order, as well as a chipping service for Xbox and Playstation 2 consoles. Officials found approximately 50 modified chips and wiring diagrams behind one of the stalls. They also uncovered 'downgrader' software for Sony's PSP console and a large number of pirated PSP titles.
The five people arrested were held over night in jail and two of the suspects' homes were searched. Officials discovered two fully operational piracy 'factories' - inside one home and in the garage of the other house - containing four computers, nine burning towers and numerous computer and video game master copies.
ELSPA works closely with local Police and Trading Standards across the country, said Michael Rawlinson, deputy director general of ELSPA. We were pleased to assist the Wolverhampton authorities in this case and would like to thank all involved for their hard work in uncovering these counterfeiting operations.
A financial investigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act is underway. This can lead to serious financial loss for those criminals involved.
That was a press release from elspa

Console version of Tony Cipriani's mafia mix-ups heads to North American PlayStation 2s June 6 for $19.99, Europe June 9.
The day of release for a new installment of Grand Theft Auto for the PlayStation 2 has become synonymous with "sick" days, $50 out of the wallet, and late October. Taking advantage of its popularity and the holiday season, Rockstar Games has always sent each edition of its flagship franchise to stores just before November and has never found a reason to debut the games for less than half a Benjamin.
That's all about to change for the controversial game, as Rockstar today announced that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be available for the PlayStation 2 on June 6 for an MSRP of $19.99. The game will come to Europe on June 9 for 29.99 euros ($37) or 19.99 GBP ($35).
Though this isn't the debut of this particular chapter of GTA (it was released late last October on the PSP), it is the debut of the game on a console--a very widespread one, at that.
Gamers anxious to return to Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto III, have long been wondering exactly when the game would come out (it was originally due in April but was then delayed) and how much it would be released for. The PS2 version was revealed in January and originally expected to hit stores in April, and Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Paul Eibeler, announced in March that the game would be cheaper than the $50 PSP version.
Though the game was already released for the PSP, it doesn't mean that this latest version doesn't have a chance to follow in its PS2 GTA predecessor's footsteps as a retail success. Though the PSP has shipped nearly 20 million units (as of the end of 2005, just over 15 million units shipped), the PS2 has sold more than 100 million units.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PlayStation 2 has not yet been rated, however, it's likely to receive the same M-for-Mature rating that its PSP counterpart had. As of press time, online retailers still listed the game at $29.99.

April 19th, 2006, 16:43 Posted By: wraggster
Despite ending over sixty years ago, World War II continues to rage in the games industry, the latest assault coming from French publisher Ubisoft, who have snubbed the Xbox 360 for their latest combat game in favour of Sony's PlayStation 3.
Announced today for PC and PS3 - although the official announcement does not explicitly rule out a launch on other platforms - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is the third title in Ubisoft's multi-million selling, critically acclaimed WWII series from independent developers Gearbox Software.
Offering the same level of authenticity and historical accuracy that enabled the first two games to stand out from the crowd, the latest game will focus on Operation Market Garden - the largest airborne assault of the war.
Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, commented: "With Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway, Gearbox is investing everything to take next-generation gaming to an entirely new level. The Unreal Engine 3 powers real next-generation graphics and the most intense, action-oriented recreation of true history ever offered as interactive entertainment."
Whilst the promise of "amazing graphics and sound, new cutting-edge gameplay features, and a completely redesigned online component" is certain to please fans of the series, the announcement is arguable more interesting for what it doesn't say - namely that the title will be appearing on Microsoft's Xbox 360.
While Microsoft continues to enjoy an unrivalled market lead in next generation hardware, it's the software that ultimately defines success or failure. Although there's nothing in the announcement to say that the new game won't be appearing on the Xbox 360 at a later date, the fact that the title will debut this holiday season as one of the early launch titles for Sony's new machine may come as a bit of a blow to the Redmond-based giant.
It could be argued that Ubisoft is attempting to mirror the success of Activision's Call of Duty 2, which quickly became the best selling Xbox 360 launch title around the same time last year, but placing platform loyalty for such a high profile title at this stage will surely not go unnoticed.

Namco is working on a new version of long-standing power-sliding favourite Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3, according to the latest word from out East.
According to our old friends at respected Japanese publication Famitsu, work on Ridge Racer 7 is already well underway and, surprisingly, it's set to make its playable debut at this year's E3.
The latest word is that Ridge Racer 7 is being developed by series producer and PSP vet, Hideo Teramoto, and it's being directed by Masaya Kobayashi with sound duties being performed by Hiroshi Okubuo.
Not too many further details to report, other than the intriguing news that Ridge Racer 7 will roar online with up to fourteen players on the PS3, so severe multiplayer action is certainly in prospect. Once again, trademark Ridge Racer virtual icon and racing queen Reiko Nagase (pictured) will be fronting the racing franchise, which can be no bad thing.
With E3 roaring ever closer, like an Artic bearing down on an unsuspecting hedgehog, we'll be hoping to bring you first impressions of Ridge Racer 7 in action, live and direct from the E3 show floor.

Bullhead from the forums has discovered how to get a classic birds eye view in Grand Theft Auto:Liberty City Stories. This is very useful, especially in driving missions.
"I have made a very cool discovery in gta:lcs using the new gta cheat device. I figured out how to play lcs like the classic grand theft auto, using the birds eye view.
First set the water level to roughly 70 meters.
Then turn the cheat off.
Get into a car.
Now turn the cheat back on again.
When on foot set the height around 15 meters.
Its cool because when you are driving fast, the canera pans out a bit. Hopefully the next release will have a proper birds eye view mode!"
You can check out the thread here
Nice find bullhead!
