Crave Entertainment, a leading publisher of console videogames, today announced a brand new installment in the popular BMX Franchise, Dave Mirra BMX Challenge for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system.
“Dave Mirra is the king of BMX, widely recognized and admired in the action sports lifestyle community,” says Jim Flaharty, senior vice president of Crave Studios. “His enthusiasm for his sport and videogames make him a great partner and an invaluable contributor to the development process.”
Dave Mirra for PSP system features 17 levels with 9 different environments and 9 bikes from which to choose. Up to 4 players can compete via ad hoc wireless play. Player characters are customizable, and Dave is the featured rider.
The game is expected to be available in October 2006 for an MSRP of $29.99.
Dave Mirra is listed as one of the most recognizable names in sports today, an honor he shares with the likes of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. He currently holds more Gold Medals than any other competitor in the history of the X Games. Dave has “placed” in more than 50 action/extreme sports competition, such as “Action Sports Athlete of the Year” at the 2005 ESPYs, and a Gold Medal in Bike Park at the 2005 X Games.

Finally the UK catches up with the rest of the world, The Ceramic White version of the PSP at least at Argos is going to be bundled with Wipeout Pure for 289.99 Pounds or with Pro Evo Soccer 5 & Persuit Force for 299.99 Pounds.
Seems a tad expensive to me for a different colour PSP

Freakdave has released an updated version of his port of Abombniball to the PSP, heres the details:
<blockquote>v2 release:
- Added: Digital Pad is now working (Menu and Ingame)
- Added: Easy Mode - Play with a disabled timer
- Added: Quit to Menu anytime by pressing START
The objective of Abombniball is to defuse all the explosives on each level. As a ball, this would normally be a simple task, however each level is filled with traps and devious puzzles placed there
by...oh...lets say "Dr. Y-Front", your arch-nemesis (he's very evil). These traps take the form of special tiles which disappear or do other nasty things.</blockquote>

So you want to play GameGear and Master System classics on your PSP but you have upgraded your firmware. It's a common problem, with users of Sony's portable often held in flux between the path of upgrade righteousness and seedy blackmarket emulation.
Well now, the problem has been solved, with BenQ, maker of some of SPOnG's favourite PC monitors and probably some other stuff in other offices in other places, revealing the truly awesome Joybee EG10, an MP3 player preloaded with ten amazing Sega titles.
We're not entirely sure if you, our humble reader, will be as excited at the prospect of the Joybee EG10 as we are. That's probably because you're not as clever as us, as we've explained to our wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and significant others. You see, although it's going to cost about £150 and we already have 26 MP3 players, four Master Systems and and impressive five GameGears between us, that's not the point. The games alone the Joybee EG10 comes pre-loaded with are, taking into account cost of living hikes and inflation, worth about £500! Add this to the £350 in hardware and you'll find that everyone buying a Joybee EG10 actually makes £700!
Hmm this isnt actually an addon for the PSP but a seperate piece of hardware, check out the screenshot via comments

The folks at PlayStation 3 Portal have been gathering news from a few of their trusty (yet anonymous) sources regarding the hardware of the PlayStation 3. The following, they claim, have been "validated by multiple sources that are involved in early PS3 development." Nothing is confirmed and Sony had definitely had time to alter these statistics, if true, but in the meantime here is what the Portal has learned:
A "'Blade' like pane that can appear on the right hand side of the screen" that represents the PS3's always-running OS (similar to the Xbox 360's Dashboard).
One will be able to use voice chat "across all games, even outside of the gamers own UI."
The OS will always utilize 1 of 7 SPEs on the Cell chip, and the option to "take" another when needed -- "games have to give it up if requested." In terms of RAM, the OS will use 18.75% of all available RAM (32mb of GDDR3 memory from the RSX chip, 64mb of the XDR memory from the Cell).
The information presented is interesting, to say the least. The new trend in consoles having a constantly running operating system is blurring the line between console and PC gaming. Fortunately, it seems the PlayStation 3 should be more than powerful enough to run both the OS and a game simultaneously.

GameDailyBiz reports on analyst predictions of an upcoming PS2 price cut. From the article: "Although some analysts have said a price cut to $99 for the aging console would be a possibility, Sebastian believes the cut would be a more moderate $20 drop. 'We now believe a price cut on Sony's PS2 is more than likely ahead of the E3 video game conference. Specifically, our industry checks indicate that Sony is planning to cut the PS2 price to $129 from the current $149 before the end of this month,' he said."

Japanese giant Konami has quietly divulged its current crop of titles to US retailers for this year and, despite a couple of notable omissions including Pro Evo and MGS 4, they make for some interesting reading.
Most important perhaps is a new Silent Hill remake for PSP entitled Original Sin, which is set for release in October and will feature the original game's storyline with a few added plot diversions to add lashings of extra horror.
The Nintendo DS sees another Castlevania sequel in the form of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, which cracks a whip on November 15, while the new Bomberman Act Zero will be debuting on 360 and PSP on December 7. Another big franchise gets a reworking with Death Jr. 2 swinging its scythe for arrival on the PSP on October 18 and a new Death Jr iteration for Nintendo DS, entitled Science fair of Doom, arriving one week later.
Other titles on the Konami horizon? Well, if you're a fan of the DDR series, the shortly-to-be-released-in-the-arcade DDR Supernova arrives on the PS2 in September, with DDR Universe hitting 360 on October 11. The current gen Xbox gets a dose of DDR Ultramix 4 on November 14. For those home warblers amongst you, Karaoke Revolution: American Idol hits the PS2 in November.
All dates are US only for the moment and, this close to E3, Konami isn't commenting on any prospective European release dates. But of course, we'll learn more at the show, and we hope we'll get some hands-on time with Silent Hill: Original Sin PSP in just under a month's time.

iR Shell 1.4 Released The multi-tasking iR Shell finally gets a face lift. Besides playing UMD game while listening to your favorite mp3 and doing adhoc WiFi file transfer simultaneously, you can now choose your own custom skin. This is a major update to iR Shell with many new features added.
iR Shell with various skins

List of new features:
1. Added support for user defined skins. Finally, you can get rid of the RED background with your own custom skin. Refer to the Configurator section for details.
2. Added Game Save Viewer for viewing game save details. This will useful for locating the specific game save and send it via adhoc WiFi to your friends PSP before a adhoc battle.
3. DIR View has been enhanced to work as a real file browser with file size and free space left.
4. Added File Manipulation functions, including Delete, Rename & Create Directory. These functions may work differently according to the current views you're on. Example, if you're under "DIR View", rename will allow you to rename the actual file or directory. If you're under "APP View", rename will rename the Application Name embedded within the EBOOT.PBP file. Note, the Delete function is extremely powerful as it allows deleting a complete directory tree. If you delete "ms0:/PSP, then all your homebrews, photos, music & gamesave will be gone. Use it cautiously. To protect accidental deletion, you can use Configurator to add password to protect the use of File Manipulation functions.
5. Added support on RunUMD.
6. Added a Configurator program to support vaious customization and skin browsing.
7. Added password protection on iR Shell usage. You can customize it under Congigurator. You can also manally lock iR Shell by pressing Right Trigger + Circle. The default password is NULL, that is, just press START for enter.
8. The previous versions of Adhoc WiFi file transfer has a poor performance on Sony Memory Stick. This new version will boost the Sony MS speed to be on par with Sandisk. Thanks to AnonymousTipster for suggesting the fix.
9. A new central iR Shell directory is added, you should move the corresponding files to the new directory:
- ms0:/IRSHELL : main iR Shell cental directory
- ms0:/IRSHELL/SKINS : for putting various skins
- ms0:/IRSHELL/IRCODES : all IR Codes (RDF files) should be moved to here
- ms0:/IRSHELL/HOMEBREW : homebrew dir has been moved from /PSP/GAME/HOMEBREW to here. You should place a valid EBOOT.PBP here to be launched with Right Analog shortcut.
- ms0:/IRSHELL/SNAPSHOT : snapshot directory has been moved from /PSP/SNAPSHOT to here.
Configurator:
A new Configurator program is added which allows various customization as follows:
1. Setting of CPU Speed between 100, 222, 266 & 333.
2. Choice of various date format display.
3. To show or hide IR Remote Sub-directories under iR Remote View (RDF View).
4. Customize the pre-defined homebrew name for Right Analog Pad. If not defined, it will say "Launch Predefined Homebrew". The pre-defined homebrew directory is now moved from /PSP/GAME/HOMEBREW/EBOOT.PBP to /IRSHELL/HOMEBREW/EBOOT.PBP.
5. Enable Password Mode to allow prompting of password upon iR Shell startup.
6. Enable Password Protection for accessing "File Manipulation" functions.
7. Enable Password Protection for accessing Configurator.
8. Change the current password. You'll be prompted for the original password. If you haven't defined any password, the default is NULL (just press start for old password).
9. Skin Browser allows you to choose 1 of the prefined skins. Press CROSS the preivew skin and follow on-screen instructions to install. Each skin is compose of 5 files as follow:
- irshell.bmp : iR Shell Main Menu Background
- ircomm.bmp : iR Remote Default Background (default background will be display when no other bitmap defined for the remote)
- irscfg.bmp : iR Configurator Background
- color.def : Color definition file. Use any text editor to make changes to color value. All color values are in RGB.
- color.cfg : After making changes to the color.def file, you'll need to compile it and generate this color.cfg by going to the preview skin mode and press CIRCLE. The color.cfg will be the one used by iR Shell during runtime.
All bitmap files can either be 256 color or 24-bit color with resolution of 480 x 272.
Special thanks to all beta testers, especially StoneCut, Triable, Rangedunits, Skydew & AnonymousTipster for the extensive beta testing and bug hunting.

This just came up as new in my email from Lik Sang (although if its been out a while accept my apologys) but for UK import fans it will be interesting:

Surveillance photos show Fisher in the company of Emile Dufraisne, a known domestic terrorist. Third Echelon wants answers: why did their best agent throw away decades of service to forces with terrorists? As Sam defends himself, he will tell a story no one suspected. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Essentials starts where Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent ends, and takes players to the years before Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell when Sam was still a Navy Seal. Full immersion in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell universe: Takes players deep into the saga of Sam Fisher – with missions from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent. A game of gadgets for your gadget: Features all the weapons and gadgets from the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell franchise, in addition to some new ones exclusive to the PSP system version. Oopo admin of PS2Dev posted this in a forum post:
<blockquote>http://psixonline.com/pdr.html
Quote:
Through the process of psix's conception, realisation and progression, it became clear to me that there was little in the way of development support, due to the closed doors on psp development as far as sony were concerned.
The site ps2dev.org is now known the world over for it's assistance to developers in that of the development of the PSP SDK and various other tools, libraries and resources.
It is with this in mind that i start the PDR project, basically with my share of psix pro membership sales (35%), all of it will go back into the psp community, in the form of books, software and when needed, hardware.
How much i end up with, to put back into the psp community is anyones guess, however i
will do my best to provide resources to as many developers as possible.
So, does anyone else appreciate this guy:
1) Charging $10/head for a shell replacement built on our tools.
2) Invoking the 'ps2dev.org' name to help sell it.
3) Never approaching us for permission or even offering any funds?
I certainly don't. How about you?</blockquote>

Im getting old so forgive me, a few weeks ago i contacted PSP298 who released the Game Boy Advance Emulator on our forums, he told me that he will not be working on the emulator in the future.
<blockquote>With the source code released to public, I feel my part had been done and there is no more work on the emu now.</blockquote>
So there you have it, for those coders who dont like to tread on others toes this could be the time to step in, Sources to the emulator can be found here --> http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspgba.shtml
