Sure the latest unofficial news on the Playstation 3's release date and pricing doesn't differ substantially from what we've already heard. But a little more reinforcement doesn't hurt, right? So, we'll assume for now that the team at PSM have at least some idea of what they're talking about when they say that the PS3 will be out in "the first half" of November, and will be priced at $399 in the U.S., €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan (arbitrageurs, fire up your calculators now). That pricing will no doubt come as a relief to anyone who panicked at this month's €599 scare -- and an early November release could give Sony a jump on the Black Friday shopping frenzy. And this is probably the last PS3 rumor we'll hear -- at least until we hit E3 next month, that is.

The games line-up for PlayStation 3's November launch is slowly taking shape and Official PlayStation 2 magazine has been keeping tabs on it all.
In its latest issue (on sale now) it provides a list of the games you can expect to be playing on Sony's new console, which comprises of following:
Stranglehold
The John Woo inspired shooter.
Tekken
A next-gen edition of the Iron Fist tournament.
Sonic the Hedgehog
A new adventure for the prickly hero.
Resistance: Fall of Man
Sci-fi shooter from the creators of Ratchet and Clank.
Lair
A fantastical dragon orientated action game from the people behind The Suffering.
Motorstorm
Arcade-style off-road racing from the WRC developers.
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
An online RPG.
With further announcements expected at E3 there should be a considerable amount of titles and gaming variety available at PS3's launch. Should be.

New Commercial PSP Release:

Based on the anime series, this is a port of the PS2 combo battle-RPG game which runs parallel to events in the EVA series, featuring characters from the show and all of the Evangelion robot battlers. Character interaction is seen through an isometric 3D RPG engine (with anime pop-ups for talking characters), while battles are played out in full 3D action/stragety RPG battles in the heart of the Tokyo defense system. The PSP version features an improved battle graphics and smarter enemy AI.

Atari's announced a "micro-games" compilation for PSP which sounds a bit like Warioware spliced with Marc Ecko's Getting Up.
Called HOT PXL (breathe. BREATHE), it consists of 200 games based on things like blasting through an old-days shoot-'em-up, doing tricks on a skateboard or BMX, stage-diving at a concert, or just trying to cross a busy street.
The shots suggest you'll also be putting up posters, being achingly hip and pressing L and R in front of a tree. The whole thing's due out this Christmas. It's in development at Parisian outfit zSlide.
Although it's ostensibly a mini-game comp., it does have some semblance of a plot - "drawing inspiration from street culture and the digital lifestyle" apparently. Your character is a half-skater, half-nerd (and-a-fraction-mustard?) called Djon, and you've got to guide him through "a typical day in his pixellated digital world".

Bethesda Softworks says it has no plans to do PSP and PS3 versions of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, despite what some-bloke-on-a-forum said. (Yep.)
"At present we have no announced plans to bring Oblivion to any platforms other than PC or Xbox 360," is the official line issued yesterday.
That's after a chap called "snatches" on the Gaming Age Forums claimed they were - and that the games were due out this November. Apparently the source was a "release list from Bethesda".
Since then, he's responded to news of Bethesda's cold water by saying "if this news isn't true it's because some sales idiot at Bethesda sent out incorrect info". So there you go.

Q Entertainment's music puzzler Lumines is still getting heavy rotation in our smudge-ridden PSPs, so much so that block-related hallucinations are not uncommon after we've busted out an afternoon session.
We're delighted then to hear that a sequel to Tetsuya Mizuguchi's music puzzler is almost certainly in the works, and apparently ripe for an E3 unveiling. The news comes from an pre-E3 promo video on Sony's PSUnderground site, where the plucky American presenter (who is not in the least bit irritating) lists the puzzle sequel as a game set to debut at this year's E3 show.
After getting word of the game we immediately manned the CVG bat-phone, although Sony was unavailable for comment. However, with this being an official video, it's looking almost certain we'll see the Lumines sequel crop up in Sony's sprawling E3 booth, and we'll likely have to be dragged away kicking and screaming by the end.
Look out for our E3 coverage kicking off in just 2 weeks time where, if all goes well, we'll avoid a 72-hour Lumines 2 marathon.

Fanjita has posted a Faq of info about the new firmware released, you will have already read most facts on this site, some even before the official release, heres the Faq:
Most people are now aware that the v2.7 firmware has been released by Sony. We've been getting a lot of questions about it, so here's a quick FAQ:
Homebrew does not work on v2.7. The GTA exploit is thoroughly patched, and the TIFF exploit is still patched. If you like homebrew, DO NOT UPGRADE.
We have no idea when homebrew will be available on v2.7. We need a whole new exploit, which could take some time. In our opinion (shared with EdisonCarter) there is no future for the GTA exploit on v2.7.
LocoRoco is an encrypted, signed EBOOT. The only way to run homebrew in the same way is to get Sony's encryption key and sign the homebrew. That's not going to be possible in our lifetime.
There could well be an exploit to be found in all the new function, e.g. flash player, AAC support, etc. We're not actively working on one.
There might be an exploit to be found in another game. We're not actively working on one.
There's no truth in the rumour that v2.7 has made us angry, and that we're going to work on an ISO loader as revenge.
The LocoRoco demo REQUIRES v2.70, even if you hack the PARAM.SFO in the EBOOT. It's pretty cool, but there's homebrew that's cooler.
Once again, the most important point: If you don't think that slow support for an old version of Macromedia Flash, and support for the very latest games, is worth trading for homebrew for the next few months - then DO NOT UPGRADE.

71M posted a new release of the excellent FileAssistant++:
Hi guys,
Here's an experimental build of FA++ that (fingers crossed) should run on 2.0+ FW PSPs!
If successful, this will add SWF support for 2.0+ PSPs so no need to upgrade to FW 2.7 just yet!
I don't have anything other than a 1.5 PSP to test this on so I'm releasing it for you guys to test and give feedback.
Please leave any feedback in the Bugs forum.

Modojo has received word that video game developer Bethesda will be releasing a version of its recent Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion RPG title on Sony's next generation console, the PlayStation 3. Not necessarily a surprising move, however the porting doesn't appear to stop there as a PSP version is apparently also in development.
An odd move to say the least, but the Elder Scrolls have seen a portable iteration once before, available on Nokia's N-Gage, so a move to the PSP would certainly be possible.
Both titles are slated with a tentative November 2006 release date, which would imply that the PS3 version could be a launch title.
In other news, a new Star Trek game, titled Tactical Assault, has also been unofficially confirmed to be in development by Bethesda. Available on both the PSP and Nintendo DS, the title currently sports an October 2006 release.
Stay tuned to Modojo for the full report on Bethesda's line-up as E3 rolls around in a few short weeks.
