News from Insert Credit

Here's an odd one! Biz Taiken (loosly, 'hands-on business') is a new series (we'll see if they make it past one) for the PSP, which teaches you practical business sense in an adventure/visual novel-like scenario. Bottom left link on the site shows you a movie, if you want to cut to the chase, but I'll explain a bit more for those of you who are interested. It's got a pretty Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright)-like art style for the characters, which are often laid over photographs that have been doctored to look a bit more illustration-y. But in spite of the cartoonish style, it seems to be aimed at serious business folks.
Within the game, your aim is to gain status, learn business terms, and become top in your company. Theoretically, the game provides simple explanations for complex business ideas, tactics and lingo, in a method that's 'so fun you won't realize you're learning.' It's got multiple endings of course, so you have to go through and learn by repetition. The game charts your progress, and also occasionally submits you to tests of knowledge. In many ways, it's like an odd japanese serious game.
Biz Taiken came out on march 9th for 4,800 yen, and predictably did not chart in the top ten. Number 10 for the month was the aging Monster Hunter Portable, with 17,282 units. Soooooo. Still an interesting idea though.

News from Gamesradar
Yuke's, the developer behind the SmackDown! series, has turned its attention away from testosterone and sweat to frolicking puppies and cute canines with its new PSP game, The Dog: Happy Life.
The handheld game, which is released in Japan this month, allows you to choose some pups, dress them up, breed them (!), then take photos of the humiliated canine which can be then posted on the internet to further the poor pup's shame.
From the grabs it also seems possible to embellish and touch-up the photos to make the dogs look as though they're dancing, late for breakfast and saying hello.
While it seems to be lacking in some of the subtlety of the DS hit Nintendogs we have to throw Yuke's a bone for managing to make its game even camper. Truly remarkable.
There's no news of a UK release yet but perhaps Yuke's could include it as a SmackDown! minigame. Just a thought.

The planned online service for the PlayStation 3 continues to take shape, with sources close to the Royal Bank of Scotland telling GamesIndustry.biz that the bank is working with Sony in the UK on trials of an online payment mechanism.
The deal between Sony and the RBS was signed last week, according to our source, with trials of the payment system due to start in May - which corresponds nicely with Sony's stated timeline for PS3 development, which sees them delivering a version of the Network Platform which can be used for final testing by September.
The payment system on the PSNP - a rather cumbersome acronym which is set to be replaced before the launch of the console, possibly with the internal development name, PlayStation HUB - is set to be used for a wide range of transactions.
Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios boss Phil Harrison outlined many of those uses in his keynote address at the Game Developer's Conference last month, including the Xbox Live style arcade and retro game downloads, additional content purchases for PS3 titles, subscriptions to massively multiplayer titles, and even buying in-game items through regulated "real money" auctions.
Further details of the PlayStation Network Platform are expected to be announced at E3 this year, when showcasing the PlayStation 3 is likely to be at the top of the agenda at Sony's pre-show conference on Monday, May 8th.

It's almost pointless to state that the original God of War was one of our favourite games of the last couple of years, thanks to its finely honed mix of fighting, platforming and astonishing visuals. Pointless, that is, because almost everybody else seems to agree with us on this one.
Needless to say, we're getting pretty excited about Sony's recently announced sequel - the imaginatively monikered God of War 2. Our sneak peek during Phil Harrison's keynote at this year's GDC whet our appetites for more mythology-based destruction, but now Sony has unleashed even more brutal new footage of the game. If possible, the game's looking even more beautiful than before - not to mention bloody.
Sony will be bringing God of War 2 to this year's E3, so expect more frenzied, gushing coverage when we get our hands on it next month. According to that movie, God of War 2 will debut early next year in February 2007 - and don't rule out a PS3 version either.

You've got to love our magazine brethren. Despite working exclusively in dead tree media, they get in on some top scoops which occasionally make us a touch green with envy. Well, maybe not, but hats off to Official PlayStation 2 Magazine which has come up with a bunch of great PS3 goodies in the latest issue.
Chief among the delights is the news that Monolith, the developer behind awesome PC FPS F.E.A.R., is working on a PS3 exclusive. Not a great deal more is known, but given the developer's leanings we'd be surprised to find it was anything other than a PS3 FPS. It almost certainly won't be a F.E.A.R. title though, as Vivendi has retained all rights to that series.
Other hot PS3 news? Well, the mag also reveals that your online PS3 persona will be captured via an EyeToy camera, which can then be converted into an avatar so you'll be able to upload your mugshot to the PlayStation Network Platform and share your visage with an unsuspecting world.
As well as providing rumours on the existence of a new Level 5 (Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy ) PS3 title and the fact that Pandemic is beavering away on up to six new games for current- and next-gen consoles, OPSM 2 also offers a tentative array of some of the PS3 titles which should be available for launch in November. They are:
Lair
Motorstorm
John Woo's Stranglehold
Tekken
Sonic The Hedgehog: Resistance
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
An interesting array of PS3 goodies indeed and of course, we'll be bringing you more from the games juggernaut which is E3 next month.
