Hi,
PSPTris version 0.5 has been released. This is a stand alone Tetris clone for the PSP. The plan is to have it running as a plugin for PSPRadio. But it will also be released as a stand alone version, for those having 2.x firmware, which can't use the dynamic version of PSPRadio.
This version has all the basic gameplay in place. It still needs a bit polishing, but I wanted to release this preview to get some feedback.
Br, Sandberg.

Raf and the PSP Radio Team have released a new pre release version of their streaming music application for the PSP, heres te release details:
-This version of PSPRadio has reduced memory allocation to allow links2 to work (links is very memory hungry, specially if images are enabled.. you may need to disable images for your favorite website to work....)
-It includes Danzeff OSK (Thanks Danzel!)
-The 'homepage' has some pointers on how to use it....
-If it runs out of memory it may take you to the red screen; you will need to kill it (L+R+START) to go back to pspradio.
-priorities still need to be tweaked so that music can be listened right while browsing
-go to file: OS SHELL to switch back to PSPRadio, then select the links2 plugin again to get back to the browser.
-the mouse cursor will ocasionally leave traces. just "left click" on a blank spot of the screen to clear it out.

News from Insert Credit
Thanks to Famitsu we know that Falcom's next game for a non-PC system (after Gurumin, which we mentioned here) will be Eiyuu Densetsu VI ~Sora no Kiseki~. It's the game's first port and the target machine is PSP. Titled 'Eiyuu Densetsu VI ~Sora no Kiseki~ FC [First Chapter]', it leaves apart its recent sequel and will get a release on September 28th. Quite disappointing to see Falcom's comeback to the 'console scene.' It's been more than a decade and they chose a handheld. Oh well.

PSmonkey has posted a screenshot of the game which is now working in his Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP, he posted this bit of news:
The bug was Eeprom. While mario & waverace still dont work, I think ths more has to do with emulation bugs (made a few trying to get mario working). All 3 roms (which required 4k eeprom) now progress.
Starfox does get alot farter then this, it's just the map screen is very hard to figure out (hle bugs). I probably could get all the way ingame but did not have the time to check it out. $n!pR will do that for me in a big and come back with the results later.
Keep your eye on things via his site here --> http://nemo.dcemu.co.uk

I have also just fixed a missing RDP opcode. As a result mario kart is now running. Please see website for screenshots & more details.

Preview from IGN:
First things first. Killzone: Liberation isn't the PS2 Killzone you've come to know. It's in no way a port of the console first-person shooter that shipped back in November 2004. In fact, apart from the futuristic sci-fi setting, it's almost a completely different game. It looks and plays nothing like its predecessor. Hell, it plays unlike anything on the PSP, for that matter. And, from a recent demo held by Sony in anticipation for E3 2006, this route seems like it was the right one to take.
To start, players looking for a little continuity will definitely find it. As different as the game is from the original, there's still plenty here for fans to enjoy. Liberation takes place two months after the events of the first Killzone. The Helghast still control a majority of southern Vekta. Players assume the role of Templar, who some will remember as the heroic squad leader from the first game. Only this time, players will undertake a far different mission. Instead of simply thwarting a global attack, they'll need to rescue a string of hostages taken by a ruthless general known as Metrac.

Barring any last-minute surprises, Rockstar Games will be a virtual no-show at E3 this year, Rockstar public relation staff have confirmed.
That means no booth tours, no appointments, and no game announcements. And certainly no next-gen Grand Theft Auto.
In fact, aside from showing a demo of the family-friendly Table Tennis at Microsoft's Xbox 360 booth, Rockstar will barely have a presence at E3 2006. The company doesn't even have a booth reserved.
What does this mean for the uber-powerful game developer? Likely, they're hard at work on the next entry in the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series, which is rumored to debut on a next-gen system. Of course, the company has yet to even suggest they're working on such a title, but considering that a vast percentage of publisher Take-Two Interactive's revenue comes from the Grand Theft Auto series, there's no doubt they're building the technological framework as we speak.

Sony expects its upcoming PlayStation 3 console to be out of the starting gate more quickly than Microsoft's Xbox 360, it said today.
The company, which recently pushed back the launch of its console to November, said it expects sales during the first four to five months after launch to be about 6 million units.
Microsoft, which launched the Xbox 360 in November last year, expects sales to hit between 4.5 million units and 5.5 million during about the first seven months.
Sony has spent about $425 million during the past year on development and launch preparations for the PlayStation 3, said Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony's chief financial officer, at a Tokyo news conference to announce the company's full-year results.
"After the introduction of the PS3 we will focus our efforts on expanding the platform as rapidly as possible," Oneda said. "We will also attempt to lower the manufacturing costs by reducing the number of parts used in hardware and reducing the costs of the semiconductors and other key components. By so doing, we aim to bring the PS3 business to profitability at the earliest possible time."
Current Product Plans
During the fiscal year just ended, Sony shipped 16.2 million PlayStation 2 consoles. The number is slightly higher than the year earlier but Sony expects this to fall rapidly during the current year as customers favor the soon-to-be-launched PlayStation 3. Sony said it predicts about 10 million PlayStation 2 consoles will be sold this year.
The handheld PlayStation Portable device did well during the year, but again Sony expects sales in the current year to decline. The PSP, which was launched in Japan in late 2004, shipped 3 million units in its first few months on sale. In the following 12-month period shipments were 14.1 million units, Sony said Thursday. For its current fiscal year, from March to April 2007, this is expected to drop to 12 million units.
Software shipments for the PlayStation consoles hit 267 million units, which is just below the previous year's total. Within this, PlayStation 2 software shipments dropped 12 percent, and PlayStation Portable software shipments jumped more than 600 percent.
Overall, Sony's game business saw sales increase by 31 percent, while the division's operating profit sank 80 percent on PlayStation 3 start-up costs.

April 28th, 2006, 21:40 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Corporation is expecting substantial first year losses from the launch of its PlayStation 3 console in November, its Q4 financial statement revealing a gloomy forecast for the currently profitable games division.
For the fourth quarter ended March 31st, Sony posted a loss of YEN 66.5 billion (EURO 463 million), 10 million higher than the loss during the same period a year prior. The company attributed the larger loss to changes in taxes paid compared with a year ago, and restructuring expenses of YEN 75.3 billion (EURO 524 million) which were higher than those of the previous year.
The games division remains profitable at present however, and although profits fell by almost 80 per cent to YEN 8.7 billion (EURO 60.5 million), sales rose by 31.4 per cent to YEN 958.6 billion (EURO 6.7 billion). The company recorded sales of 2 million PSP units during the quarter (a slight dip on the 2.5 million a year ago) and 2.32 million PS2s, down from 6.08 million a year earlier.
On a yearly basis, PS2 hardware sales remained relatively static at around 16 million units worldwide, and the increase in PSP units from 3 to fourteen million boosted overall sales significantly, ensuring that the games division remains profitable.
With the launch of the next-generation console in November, which it is widely expected Sony will sell at a loss for at least the first year, the company is expecting to post a loss during the current fiscal year of approximately YEN 100 billion (EURO 697 million), although post-launch costs for the units are expected to be drastically reduced.
According to Reuters, Sony SVP, Takao Yuhara, stated: "We believe that we can lower costs dramatically (on the PS3) through chip shrinkage and by cutting the number of parts but there is no way to avoid high costs in the first year."
The company is expecting to bring the PS3 business to profitability in as short a time frame as possible, focusing on expanding the platform as rapidly as possible following the launch.
Sony plans to sell 6 million PS3 units by March 2007, some four to five months after its global launch, and given the difficulties Microsoft encountered with the ambitious tri-continent launch of its Xbox 360 last year, that target would seem highly optimistic at best - even on the assumption that the component shortage issues that plagued Microsoft's launch are not a factor for Sony.

News from the register
Sony will next month launch its LocationFree TV (LFTV) service in the UK and other key European territories, allowing PlayStation Portable users to receive television programmes transmitted from the home and out across the internet. Mac users are to get access to the service too.
LPTV support is included in the PSP firmware update - version 2.7 - Sony announced this week. The upgrade - due to be posted on the Sony Computer Entertainment Europe website on 25 May - also adds podcast and RSS support, and the ability to handle AAC and WMA music files.
LPTV will be launched in the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, where, from next month, consumers will be able to buy Sony's LF-PK1 unit, which streams TV, DVD and other content from AV devices out onto the web. Any LFTV-compatible device can receive the stream and control what's streamed and when.
Already available in the US, the LF-PK1 costs $350 (£196/€281). Sony hasn't said how much the product will cost in Europe.
The unit ships with software for the PSP and PCs. Sony this week said it had licensed the technology to software developer Kaga to port the code to Mac OS X. The software is also expected to be ported to Windows Mobile and other mobile device operating systems, Sony said. In January this year, it said it would offer a software development kit to allow programmers to create LFTV-compatible apps on a variety of platforms.
Again, it's not yet clear how much the software will eventually cost

News from Eurogamer
Konami has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 6 will debut at E3 - the first time in the series' history it will have done so.
Creator Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka remains at the helm, and will be visiting E3 with the game to promote it. "This marks my first trip to E3 and I am greatly looking forward to this chance to expand the game’s amazing popularity to a wider, global level," he says.
Konami's keeping quiet for now about what's changed in PES6 - which is likely to appear on PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC and PSP - but has said to expect new moves, licensed clubs and gameplay modes, some of which will be unveiled during the show, which takes place between May 10th and 12th. A PlayStation 3 unveiling wouldn't be totally unbelievable either.
Incidentally, Konami may not be saying much about PES6 specifically, but it's a safe bet that many of the features touted in the Japanese Winning Eleven 10 title - released this week - will make it in.

If you like the idea of seeing famous rap stars knocking the stuffing out of each other, feast your raw peepers on these blood-spattered screenshots from the PSP version of Def Jam Fight For NY (subtitled 'The Takeover'), which show the likes of Ludacris, Redman, Sean Paul and Xzibit grappling and pounding a host of hapless opponents.
Rhymin' fight fans will already be familiar with the GameCube, Xbox and PS2 incarnations of the prequel to Def Jam Vendetta, but according to Craig Rechenmacher, senior director of marketing at EA, the PSP version will feature "exclusive new fighting moves, new gameplay content and original story mode". Now if only someone would invent a game where Daniel Powter wrestles James Blunt...
Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover should be out on PSP in July.

SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced SEGA RALLY™ REVO. This genre-defining competitive racing game will be the first title developed by the newly-formed SEGA Driving Studio, and will be racing onto the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360™, and PC in 2007.
With revolutionary dynamically deformable terrain, proprietary next-generation graphics, bone-jarringly realistic physics, and competitive bumper-to-bumper racing, SEGA RALLY REVO will set a new benchmark in its genre with a high-tempo driving experience that is every racing fan's driving fantasy.
"SEGA RALLY REVO shifts into high gear with revolutionary track deformation technology, skill-demanding gameplay and dazzling graphics on the next-gen systems," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "We're redefining the genre with SEGA RALLY REVO, using next-gen power to guarantee our place in the winner's circle."
Vehicle selection affects driving strategy in SEGA RALLY REVO, as race course surfaces dynamically deform upon repeated contact with vehicle tires and changing weather effects. SEGA RALLY REVO features a variety of fully deformable surfaces, from gravel-littered tracks and smooth tarmac roads, to snow-covered mountain passes. This means no two laps will ever be the same, and drivers can skillfully lower their lap times as they hurtle their chosen world-renowned rally vehicles down photo-realistic courses only made possible on next-generation hardware.
Driving skills will also be tested by SEGA RALLY REVO's advanced AI which allows NPC drivers to dynamically adapt their driving style to the varied racing surfaces. Players can enjoy a comprehensive single-player campaign as they travel the globe racing the best drivers in the world. SEGA RALLY REVO also features online capabilities, with multiplayer splitscreen modes offering an extremely competitive rally experience against drivers around the world.

zshadow posted these libs he found in the new 2.70 firmware:
some new modules I noticed in 2.7:
amctrl.prx
avcodec.prx
game_install_plugin.prx
iofilemgr_dnas.prx
irda.prx
mm_flash.prx
psheet.prx
usbacc.prx
usbcam.prx
usbgps.prx
usbgps_serial.prx
usbmic.prx
usbpspcm.prx
video_main_plugin.prx
seems camera support is there now (although I don't think the actual camera device has been released yet).
Notice all the USB references, does this mean that the addon for both the GPS and the Camera are coming very soon, it certainly looks that way. Are Sony going to feature Voice recognition in future games too with the usbmic.prx Lib, all very interesting.

Sony has revealed its worldwide hardware distribution plan for the fiscal year of 2006, the company plans to ship 10 million units of PlayStation 2, 12 million units of PSP and 6 million units of PlayStation 3 throughout the year.
Sony announced its operational profit for the 2005 financial year has increased by 68% to 191.3 billion yen (US$1.66 billion), comparing to previous year. The increase is contributed by high sales of Bravia TVs and weak Yen; increasing sales with PSP and Vaio PC; and cut back on 5,700 jobs and 9 factories.
For the financial year of 2006, Sony expects a lower profit, due to the costs to launch PlayStation 3 in November 2006, the forecasted operation profit will be 100 billion yen (US$0.872 billion). The operational income will be 8.7 billion yen (US$75.8 millions), decreased by 79.7% from 2005. Sony also expects diminishing business for PS2 and PSP, after the PS3 is launched.
