Heres the info from Dixons
As Sony have yet to announce a confirmed release date (Nov. 17th is still only a provisional date) or how many units are being shipped to Europe, let alone the UK, we have stayed off opening up forward orders on this item for fear of massive under supply.
You can register your interest on the internet page and once we have the details from Sony we will be able to advise whether you can pre-order. Pre-orders will now only be taken from customers who have registered an interest as the latest from Sony hinted at under a million units throughoutthe whole of Europe before Xmas.
We currently have no idea how many our allocation will be, but we expect it to be much less than we would like it to be.

News from Lik Sang
Monolith Soft's popular Xenosaga series debuted in Japan back in 2002 and is well known for its incredible storytelling. Now with the decision to end the epic tale in the third episode, developers have made every effort to let the bright flame of this RPG trilogy go out with a bang to be remembered. While the Japanese version has been available for a while already, the English-speaking world can now fully embrace the rich narrative that Namco offers fans of the series, as the highly anticipated US release is in stock now. More than eight hours of movies and voiced cut-scenes, an updated battle system, customizable skill sets for characters, shops to trade items in, an extensive mini-game system, creation of your own maps and lots of other new stuff make Xenosaga III - Also sprach Zarathustra a worthy closure of a magnificient saga. By the way, if you feel like catching up on earlier Xenosaga titles on the go, we do recommend checking out Xenosaga I & II, which is a remake of the PS2 prequels for the Nintendo DS in one awesome, revamped compilation.

If you want to plug your PS3 into an HDMI socket, you'll have to fork out even more wedge
The freshly minted Official US PlayStation 3 website confirms that even the pricier version of Sony's next-gen console will not ship with an HDMI cable in the box.
Which may strike as a tad underwhelming, but considering that Sony is touting HDMI -- the spiffy new HD-specific interface -- as the means of getting the best graphics out of the PS3, and as something which makes it unique compared to the Xbox 360 (which currently has no HDMI out support, although speculation suggests it may soon acquire it), it seems odd.
And, of course, it provides another example of the constant PS3-related flak that Sony has endured since E3. At least the company is finally preparing to reveal all at the Tokyo Games Show later this month. naturally, we'll bring you all the low-down from that when it gets under way.

According to a senior Sony exec -- sketchy details of what it might be like are starting to emerge
Sony's Izumi Kawanishi - the executive in charge of software platform development in Japan - has lifted the lid on the PSP's download service in an interview with NikkeiBP. He revealed that the PSP has no problems running PlayStation 1 games in an emulator - although control systems may require a rethink as the PSP only has one analogue stick - that films as well as games will be downloadable and that the download service will operate via WiFi-enabled PCs as well as the PS3.
Kawanishi argued that digital distribution is now feasible, thanks to widespread broadband, and revealed that, with the PS3 configured as a home server, the PSP could be used as a mobile information system (with the PS3's Cell processor taking on the number-crunching duties).
And he confirmed that Sony is hoping to roll out the PSP Download Service when the PS3 launches. Let's hope that turns out to be the case, as the Download Service could provide the PSP with a much-needed boost.

More info on the Gran Turismo Delay from CVG
Famitsu has reported -- after an interview with Polyphony Digital -- that the release date for the PSP version of Gran Turismo 4 has been put back indefinitely.
Originally mooted to appear in Japan in Spring 2005, it sems that gran Turismo: Mobile Edition has fallen victim to the curse of the PSP, which has recently been dogged by reports of low sales for UMD movies and has been spectacularly outsold in most territories by Nintendo's DS.
Gran Turismo: Mobile edition is, of course, one of those games that could single-handedly boost sales of Sony's handheld -- the prospect of head-to-head battles around the world's finest racing circuits via WiFi is an enticing one indeed. But it seems we'll have to be patient. Perhaps the launch delay is a function of Polyphony Digital diverting resources to the first PlayStation 3 Gran Turismo? We can but wait and see.

New release of the launchelf app for the PS2, heres whats new:
LaunchELF v4.01 (2006.09.01)
-Fixed bug that caused the 'Back' tooltip to be duplicated in FileBrowser menu
-Fixed bug in editor that caused it to scroll past every second 'page' without stopping
-Made some minor source alterations suggested by EP, to reduce compiler warnings
-Upgraded usb_mass to latest version from ps2dev.org SVN (plus our usual changes). This version fixes a bug in the last version, dealing with start/stop of USB storage devices, so anyone who had trouble with the last version should try this one. (If you installed an external driver to fix that, try configuring to use the default again instead.)

Well today has been a somewhat sad day to find out that one of our favourite coders has moved onto pastures new.
To PSmonkey, im sure everyone in the PSP and N-Gage scenes thank you for the endless hours you work to bring hope and delight to homebrewers such as myself, its awesome to know that because of homebrew and more importantly IRIS and the mention in the PSM mag that he got his new job
Theres hope for all you bedroom coders, remember no matter what they think of emulation and homebrew the gaming industry inc the likes of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do closely watch the homebrew community and if you excel then the possibilities are endless.
Also to all the scene newcomers across the whole PSP scene, remember please understand that any homebrew creation takes a lot of time and skill and some of the comments ive read are a little disheartening, remember if you piss of all the coders then there wont be any scene, just remember that the next time you give out a very rude comment.
Anyway Thanks PSmonkey from all at DCEmu

News Via GTAPortable.com
A recent update on the listing of Vice City Stories over at the IMDB revealed that the father of Umberto Robina - Alberto - will be making a return to Vice City. The voice behind the character is listed as Jorge Pupo, who actually did the voice of Gonzales in the original Vice City (the mustached guy you killed with a chainsaw).
While Alberto didn't play a big role in GTA: Vice City, we've seen him as the owner of Café Robina. This latest listing of course means that Victor will be getting involved with the Cuban gangs. It would be interesting to see if they want to ''take the Hatians out'' once again, or if R* will lower this part of the storyline in fear of pressure from the Hatian community, like they did a few years ago for GTA: VC.

Heres what the Scottish Newspaper said:
Then there was Sony Connect, the corporation’s attempt to come to terms with the download generation. It worked like any other online music service and came with a range of sleek devices to play the sounds on – but the company decided to ignore the universally accepted MP3 format and come up with its own, completely incompatible audio format. The results were predictable.
There are many who would argue that all of this is the result of a policy which was responsible for making Sony a household name in the first place. Formed in 1946 as part of the post-war reconstruction of Japan, Sony was set up to be the perfect factory, with teams of engineers working in vigorous competition with each other. This policy of internal isolationism created the transistor radio and the Walkman, but today it seems more of a hindrance than a help.
Sony has squandered the market advantages it once enjoyed. The Walkman brand that fuelled it through the 1980s is now virtually non-existent, the Wega television range of the 1990s has been superseded and now the firm faces an uphill struggle to capitalise on the games console range it hopes will secure its future.
“The strange thing here is that Sony is actually very good at manufacturing slick, attractive devices that work well,” says technology brand consultant Francis Stewart. “If they had just stuck to doing that and avoided tying themselves in knots over industry politics, then I very much doubt that there’d have been even the slightest doubt about the company’s future.”
With share prices tumbling and confidence in the once-unshakeable brand severely dented, only time will tell if Sony can continue to maintain its position at the forefront of consumer electronics.
But the company itself seems unperturbed. There may have been setbacks, it claims, but it remains the brand leader in entertainment and will continue to do so.
According to Sony sources, not only will the Blueray format ultimately prove a global success, but within months of launching the PlayStation 3, its position at the top of the heap will be reasserted. It claims that the new console is so advanced it will simply blow the competition away.

Hi DCEMU crew,
Its with a mixture of sadness and respect that I write this report to you. For the benefit of those that haven't been keeping an eye on Yoyofr and Laxer3a's forums for SnesTYL9x, for some time now both Yoyofr and Laxer3a have been saying that they have less and less time to spend on the emulator. In fact they have mentioned that at some stage they would have to stop updating it and it looks like that point might be soon.
"Hi,
We are thinking about doing a "final release".
Yoyo does not have the net for a few weeks again... Need to wait a bit.
See you."
http://yoyofr.proboards44.com/index....ead=1156247762
Laxer3a has explained that they have pretty much come as far as they can in terms of the speed of the emulator.
He does believe that if there was a major overhaul of the code to incorporate a dynamic recompiler/JIT then there would be the possibility of an approximate 10% increase in performance:
"Basically the SNES is kind of hard for dynarec because :
- Code can be automodifying (a code write itself).
In an architecture like MIPS or ARM cpu, you cant do that (because of the pipeline and code CACHE/ data CACHE seperated) So emulator writer goes really simpler.
--> One solution could be to emulate the code in RAM, and JIT the code in ROM.
- The Snes cpu is 1.7 Mhz only : I bet for the moment it takes around 100 Mhz of the main cpu to emulate it (even less probably). The JIT would probably increase the performance by 2 or 3 on the cpu emulation part... but how much TYL would increase in performance... I am not sure.
Most likely a 10% increase in performance globally ?
Most of the emu that benefit from JIT are the cpu consuming one : N64 -> 80 Mhz MIPS
GBA : 17 Mhz ARM cpu (ARM is annoying to emulate on MIPS : very costly)
This kind of technique would be usefull for the coprocessor as Tinnus said."
He also believes that if the graphics code was completely rewritten there would be a performance increase for the most popular roms:
"A full rewrite of the chipset (DSP / FX) emulation using VFPU for math stuff should increase the performance by quite a bit.
While the BEST/MOST popular games use it, it would require a LOT of dev to play 10 games.
That's why yoyo and I never went on this road...
Moreover, we had more priority at that time :-)"
http://yoyofr.proboards44.com/index....4352305&page=3
But that the sheer time and effort involved in coding these outweigh any potential benefit and that neither he nor Yoyofr have the time to undertake this.
They have mentioned though that they would like to fix any current bugs (and there is a bug report thread going in the forum) so it is hoped that the "final release" if it is released will cover the known bugs in release 0.42.
As to my motivation in writing this piece, well Yoyofr and Laxer3a have never been ones to openly advertise the fact that they would consider help on the project but I'll quote Laxer3a:
"I am not sure neither yoyo and I want to go that far in tuning. If any good coder is interested to join in... May be worth sending a bottle to the sea actually. As the source matches the latest binary. "
So if there is someone out there that would consider the above coding rewrites as a challenge they'd like to take on......

September 3rd, 2006, 06:44 Posted By: PSmonkey
Sorry to do this to you all but it is the end for PSmonkey.
As of last monday I started my new job at a big name publisher/developer to work on psp games. Sadly due to my contract I no longer can continue to do homebrew development (well atleast cant release it). It's a sad thing for my scene work but the best move I can make for my self comercialy (since my previous company was going no where and I was sick and tired of coding DS games based on a stupid license).
Yet there is no reason to be sad or angry. My work will continue on though other coders. I already have some coders who wish to continue two of my main projects.
Yes Iris 0.3 is still comming. I have a few people interested in redoing the game like I inteded as well as coninue to progress KohKae engine.
Sandbox is also not going anywhere. One of this scene's great coders is going to pick up where I left off to continue the game.
Regarding my other projects, I personaly will continue my fight to conker N64 & DD emulation on the PSP. M64 will still continue but no releases will be made public. I will how ever make my DD research public once finished.
ngPsp 1.3 ( the neogeo pocket emu) is still comming, A friend is gonna finish writing a GUI for my latest version.
Other then that, sadly all my other work is now dead (new fps will migrate into Iris 0.3, beat-em-up is dead).
That's it.
I will still lurk around and try to help people out with technical info but it will be sad to no longer work on homebrew for the scene I loved so much. Yet who knows what the future will bring and maybe I will end up being in a position that it's legaly posible for me to do homebrew again.
- Goodbye -
PS, sorry that I used will and grace image below. It's the only bow I could find close to what I wanted.
