Today Namco Bandai announced that Bounty Hounds, the upcoming sci-fi action title for the PlayStation Portable, will ship to retailers nationwide on September 12.
Bounty Hounds tells the story of Maximilian, the valiant leader of a ruthless band of mercenaries charged with scouting out planets deemed fit for habitation. The game utilizes stylized 2D and 3D cut scenes which are graphically inspired by comic books in order to tell the story of Maximilian and his band of rogues.
As Maximilian, players will be able to make use of over 500 weapons, battle 40 alien species, and tackle 40 missions. Namco Bandai also promises extensive replayability as each dungeon is randomly generated making for a unique single-player experience on every play through. Bounty Hounds also features a game sharing mode which allows multiple players to battle it out using only a single copy of the game.
Bounty Hounds for the PSP will be available in stores across North America next week for a suggested price of $39.99.

Shortly after R* spoiled us with the latest Vice City Stories update, disappointing news came in that the game is delayed in both Germany and the Netherlands. Take-Two Germany put out a release list of their upcoming games, listing the game to be released November 3rd - delaying it by two weeks. Also recently, the company's devision in the Netherlands posted news on their website stating that the game is also delayed until November 3rd in the country.
It is currently unknown whether this delay will be affected by all PAL regions, so we'll just have to wait and see.

News via Kotaku
While UMDs get cheap in Japan, the PSP is apparently going to get a discount. An insider brings word that "in about two weeks, Sony is stealth-releasing a new PSP pack." What does it contain? Our insider dishes:
1 PSP system
1 GB memory stick
1 UMD movie (Lords of Dogtown)
1 PSP game (ATV Off-road Fury: Blazin' Trails)
And the grand kicker? MSRP is $249.99. Let me say I have no clue what Lords of Dogtown is, and that's because I live in Japan, and Chaplin's City Lights is just hitting theaters here. But, our own Mark Wilson tells me that the film is "blah." The portable definitely needs a boast against the DS, which has been kicking the snot out of it. This latest PSP pack could be attractive for those who have been steering clear of Sony's portable system. And by "clear," we mean "way clear." Not sure if Lords of Dogtown is gonna do it, though.

This will probably be obvious, but with nothing to actually launch in Europe this Christmas, Sony has dropped an axe on the meaty neck of its Europe and UK advertising campaign.
The campaign was set to cost about 50 million pounds across Europe and Australia, and was hailed as the most important advertisement campaign since, well, the launch of the PS2. What did Sony have in store for us? Well...
The first two - called "Real-time" and "Blu-ray" - feature a boxer and an avid collector respectively.
In the boxing ad, the short film dramatises the power the PS3 has to learn and counter a player's moves.
The film featuring the collector aims to illustrate Blu-ray technology's capability for storing information.
Other films include a children's craze called "speed stacking" to show the processing speed of the PS3; BMX trick riders to demonstrate how to play using body movement; and a behind-the-scenes look at King Kong and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson's special effects studios to underline the console's cinema-level production quality.
In other words, 50 million pounds worth of bullshit.

According to Sony, the official US PlayStation 3 site's caveat that the HDMI connection is required for 1080p signals in Blu-ray movies is fallout from uncertainty over the Image Constraint Token - a next-generation anti-piracy measure.
Sony has made an issue of pointing out that 1080p, which the Xbox 360 is incapable of, is the Holy Grail of "full HD". As it stands now, the only game that is running in 1080p, said Fargher, is Gran Turismo HD - a tech demo crafted by Polyphony to showcase what the system is capable of.
This is in line with our earlier report, where a development source told Kikizo that, "even with [final hardware] in mind, reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible. Instead many developers, ourselves included, are reworking so they run at 720p. "
In other words, movies will play at 1080p. Games won't, and maybe never will. Not that this is really new, but it's always distressing to have the obvious reiterated officially.

Burnout 5's speedsters will atomise stupendously during crashes, with more than six times as many breakable pieces in each car compared to Burnout Revenge. This will mean you can tear your car in half, rip the roof off or achieve other satisfying shunt stunts. And all of this carnage is down to one thing: Star Wars.
Well, not quite. But developer Criterion takes its inspiration from everywhere, and director of game design Alex Ward only wants fun from his physics: "Real physics don't make for great gameplay all of the time. If we want to blow the car up, we'll blow the car up. Like when they blew up the Death Star - there's no fire in space." In other words, expect ridiculously entertaining levels of explosions when Burnout 5 launches on Xbox 360 and PS3 next year.

News from Lik Sang
Over in Japan the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia) has always been a fascinating subject for films and stories, providing a dark atmosphere but with an interesting sense of honor, respect, and loyalty. Last year however for the first time Sega let people experience that seedy underworld for themselves with a free roaming PS2 action adventure title. Costing a massive US$ 21 million to produce, it was right up there with the most expensive titles ever made, but it also scored a whopping 37 / 40 from Famitsu, a sequel is already due for release this Christmas in Japan, and a feature length Japanese movie based on the game is in the works too. We're looking at it this week though because the US port is arriving and it boasts an impressive voice talent of Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Sin City, Kill Bill), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor in Smallville), Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bring It On), Rachel Leigh Cook (She's All That, and the voice of Tifa in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Wing Commander, Batman: New Times).
The storyline was penned by an award winning Japanese novelist, Seishu Hase, and stars Kazuma Kiryu, previously a rough member of the Yakuza who has been locked up for a decade after taking the blame for a friends mistake. Now not a moment after getting out he's was back in the world of dank allies, dive bars and dodgy strip clubs, but the rules of the game have changed however. That's where you and complex story including over a dozen intricately detailed chapters begins. The designers went to great lengths to authentically re-create the city streets and illicit haunts of Tokyo's nightlife district, and the graphics are some of the best seen on the PS2. As you get into street brawls the fighting engine lets you string together attack combos to take out multiple enemies or grab and use in-game objects as weapons. Your strength, stamina, and skills can be upgraded, and a heat gauge is powered up by pulling off perfect combos. You can also accumulate weapons and items, engage in numerous side missions, interrogate and bribe informants, gamble, and even stop in one of the many shops or hit baseballs in a batting cage if that takes your fancy. Those after a deep adventure set in a world unseen in videogames to date should pick up the US release of Yakuza today.

News from Lik Sang
Nearing the all exciting final quarter of the year, this month heats up with loads of major releases, plus the Tokyo Game Show takes place Sep 22nd to 24th. Beyond the four hits this week, there's Mario Hoops 3 on 3 US next Monday on the 11th for the DS, then on the 14th Ridge Racers 2 US drifts onto the PSP. The following Tue on the 19th Naruto Clash of the Ninja 2 US finally hits the Cube, while on the 21st PSP owners can pick up Metal Gear Solid Bande Dessinee for only US$ 29.90! Looking to the last week there's Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 US for the DS on the 25th, then DDR SuperNova US dances it's way onto the PS2 on the 26th, and finally on the 28th the NDS gets Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.
Tales of Phantasia - PSP
Along with a major Windows release, the craze over a techno remix of Cotton Eyed Joe, the revealing of a standard called "DVD", and the, err, Drew Carey Show, 1995 was also the year Namco's now legendary "Tales of" series began, with Tales of Phantasia being the first of 10 (and counting!) RPG's. The original impressed with a perfectly paced storyline that grew and twisted into something much bigger, innovative gameplay mechanics and wonderfully detailed graphics. The characters were born from the mind of Kosuke Fujishima, who also produced manga like Oh My Goddess!, and games such as Sakura Wars, Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss. The memorable music was put together by Motoi Sakuraba, who also composed the soundtracks to far more games than we can list here like Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Golden Sun, Shining Force III, Baten Kaitos, and titles in the Tales of series; Symphonia, Destiny 1 & 2, Eternia, Rebirth and the Abyss.
The first title was a SNES game, then the sequel came to the PlayStation. A year after that however, the original was ported to the PS1 too, later followed by a GBA edition in 2003. It wasn't until this year however that the game was translated into English, when Namco contracted Nintendo to handle it and release it in March across Europe and the US. Back to the PS1 remake however, it ran on an updated engine from the sequel, and now makes it onto the PSP. Along with improved graphics, characters received more moves and spells, plus features common today such as cooking, titles and the ability to control any party member all made their debut in the remake. There were a slew of other changes too, such as a fully animated intro, extra side quests, a new character and summon, plus a less intense random battle encounter rate. This PSP edition enhances it all further still though with a revamped battle system, newly created sprites which match last years PSP remake, Tales of Eternia, and while the SNES original was noted as the first title to include streaming voice samples, here the PSP port has full voice overs. Arriving this week, it's your chance to witness the birth of a legacy, and since the PSP is region free, the game will run on any unit worldwide.
Ghosts 'n' Goblins Ultimate - PSP (US)
In just their second year of producing arcade games Capcom gave the world its own take on the classic hero-saves-princess tale; Ghosts 'n’ Goblins. Over the next many years, Arthur, our main hero often seen running around in underwear after suffering a blow, was blessed across sequels and home console ports with upgrades like new moves, weapons, armor and magic power ups. Then he largely faded away into a classic memory, but this week the true Capcom legend comes back to life with the US edition of Ghosts 'n' Goblins Ultimate on the PSP, and at the hands of the original's creator no less! With side scrolling 3D graphics staying true to the glorious past while still packing a modern look, there's more spells and weapons than ever before here and plenty of non-linear gameplay with new branching levels. Defeating enemies with your huge weapon arsenal like a grand lance, dagger, fire bottle, spinal whip (ouch!), swallow blade and more, you'll venture through a dark forest, a frozen old castle, some seriously messed up swamp and a fiery lava-flooded environment just to name a few. Along with the trailer and TV commercial, check out this hilarious attempt at a "real-life" Arthur:
Many of Capcom titles are known to be a serious challenge, but the new checkpoint system help balance this out, plus as the game progresses you'll earn a double jump, the ability to hang off ledges and dash. Beyond that, the new inventory and magic structure lets you cycle through your shields and spells with L & R, then you can roast some demon butt with Inferno Magic or slow down the action with Time Magic (a very neat 2D bullet time feature). To not feel naked and offer increasing protection, there are four different armor items to pick up as well. Honestly where else do you get to fight godforsaken, mummified dragons with a boomerang scythe wearing nuthin' but your undies? Hell yeah. So grab your copy today, and thanks to the handheld's true region-free capability it'll play on any PSP system bought globally.
LocoRoco - PSP (US)
Coming from the creator of Ico, and with pastel-colored, crisp 2D environments and a cheerful soundtrack that matches the candy-coated atmosphere, not to mention an adorable character design to top it all off, LocoRoco truly looks as original as it plays. The intuitive gameplay uses almost only the L and R buttons, and takes place across 40 addictive platforming stages. The story goes that the evil Moja Corps have come down from outer space to capture the peaceful species of happy blobs named Loco Roco, and it's up to you to tilt, roll and bounce them out of the reach of their attackers. The circle button will also split up your smiling blob into many smaller ones, while holding it will make the tiny fragments blend together again. Each stage offers lots of natural obstacles to overcome like waterfalls, wind streams, fountains, moving parts etc. Beyond saving the poor Loco Rocos, finding all the Moja, Picktories (berries) and Mui Mui (green guys) in each stage will provide quite a challenge.
There's six types of Loco Roco, each with unique voices and actions, and their planet appears as a living, breathing entity, where plants suddenly burst into growth as you pass them by, all sorts of critters interact with each other and the environment, more often thatn not breaking into song in the process. There's three bonus games too, one of which has you trying to pick up objects/Loco Rocos for your Loco Roco House with a 'UFO Catcher' crane. Think customizable playground for the yellow beings, where you can design a place to your liking with over a hundred different pieces (picked up either through the main game or the mini efforts). If you need a break from tough-as-nails titles that involve relying on firepower constantly, Loco Roco might just be the thing for you, perfect, spirit-lifting fun on the go! The old-school feel reflected in gameplay and the visuals gel in a really splendid way with the soundtrack and overall top-notch presentation, so treat yourself to an original idea, representing one of the best titles available for PSP yet. Region-free by nature, any PSP system worldwide will play this game right out of the box! Just slap the UMD in and start your exploits in the world of Loco Roco!

News from Eurogamer
Some good news for Sony on a day they'd otherwise rather forget - Polyphony Digital has "categorically denied" reports that it's canned the PSP version of Gran Turismo.
Recent reports based on a translation of a Famitsu Weekly article suggested that Gran Turismo 4 Mobile, which has been trailed since before the PSP even came out, had been put on indefinite hold.
But that's rubbish, according to the developer. "We can categorically deny all speculation which suggests that PDI is not developing a GT franchise game for the PSP," the company said in a statement to Eurogamer today.
"In fact, we've reached the stage where a GT4 equivalent runs on the PSP hardware. However, our main focus at present, is the development and release of a GT title for the PS3 platform."
"Once this has been completed, we can return to, and jump-start, development for the PSP version. In regards to release dates and details, we'll be making further announcement, at a later date."
GT4 Mobile has been delayed repeatedly since it was announced ahead of the PSP's launch. Originally down for a late 2004 release in Japan, it then slipped to spring 2005, and since then it's become a bit vague.

Via Eurogamer:
The game formerly known as Bully will be released on October 27th in Europe, Rockstar told Eurogamer this afternoon.
Recently renamed "Canis Canem Edit" for Europe (it's the Latin for Dog Eat Dog, apparently), the game has courted controversy blah blah blah blah blah.
But we had a crack on it recently and were quite taken with it - and how different it was to the child-stamping horror the people protesting it claimed it would be. Funny that.

The first three-minute wonder created in order to showcase the PS3's myriad abilities
In light of the news that we won't be getting the PlayStation 3 until next March, the arrival of six short films commissioned by Sony to explain and extol various aspects of the PS3 now seem a touch premature. But nevertheless, the short films have been made and are being aired: and we are providing the first one for your perusal.
Entitled Real-Time, the three-minute epic created by TBWA London's offshoot Stream features young London amateur boxer (and Olympic hopeful) Bradley Skeet, as he heads to the gym, using the contrast between pummelling punchbags and sparring against real-life opponents to highlight the idea that AI characters in PS3 games will be able to produce real-time, rather than scripted, responses. The end of the film also sports a clip of Resistance: Fall of Man.
Five other short films have been made, using subjects such as obsessive collectors, the children's craze of speed-stacking, BMX trick-riding and a behind-the-scenes look at the special effects in Peter Jackson's King Kong in order to get their messages across. Sony will be premiering the films on its new official European website and will also apparently put them on YouTube and MySpace. That is, if you can bring yourself to watch them during the agonising wait for the PlayStation 3's launch.

Just a few days prior to the launch of its official website, the first hard gameplay info on the next PS3 Devil May Cry has finally reached our ears, from the highly-respected Japanese mag, Famitsu.
According to the mag, the fourth Devil May Cry will take place between the first and second series entries and have you playing not as Dante, but DMC1 demon-man Nero, who - going by the mag screenshots - looks like a bit like an angsty version of our old hero.
Play mechanics are said to be familiar, although you can now use Nero's right arm to perform "devil actions", an ability apparently not possible on the PS2. Further more, the article reveals that Yuji Shimomura will once again be returning to direct the game's cut-scenes, and everything will play out in a silky-smooth 60 fps - and indeed, DMC4 is looking gorgeous in the mag shots.
That's all we have to offer at the moment, although we're sure more info - and hopefully screens - will surface when the official DMC4 website opens its doors on Friday. Oh, and we've included a new high-res teaser trailer to the right to get your fangs itching.

Kratos shows off of his gory new tricks in a selection of bloody God of War 2 screens
To be honest with you, if we spotted God of War's Kratos running amuck down our local we'd run the other direction - not matter how menacing or gigantic our evil, spiked-hammers were.
The fellow in these screenshots though obviously isn't as smart (or cowardly) as us, as he's getting a right old beating from our favourite Greek baldie in the PS2 GoW sequel, slashing into shops early next year. For more info on gory GoW follow-up click on over to our preview, and don't forget to check out the excellent gameplay trailer as well.

News of new game from Genji developer Game Republic hits the internet with a thwap
There's very, very brief reports floating around the interweb that our old pal Famitsu has revealed that developer Game Republic is working on a new PS3 title for Sony called Unknown Realms. We've no further details, other than that it appears the game is Japan-only at this stage.
Game Republic has previously developed samurai-powered hack 'n' slash effort Genji for Sony's PS2, and is also working on sequel Genji 2 for PS3. The studio's headed up by Yoshiki Okamoto, who is responsible for some high profile titles including Street Fighter 2, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Good pedigree of course, but the rest of the details on those realms for the moment remain ...erm unknown.

From Software's Xbox 360-exclusive RPG not so exclusive, if reports are to be believed
Recently released Xbox 360 RPG Enchanted Arms is apparently heading to PS3.
According to reports, the game's developer, From Software, blabbed about a planned version for Sony's next-gen console to Japanese magazine Famitsu.
Presumably - and if this all turns out to be true - it'll be more or less a direct port of Xbox 360's Enchanted Arms outing, but with no further information to go on currently, that's open to speculation.
Enchanted Arms has been described as one of the first true next-gen RPG adventures and finds players embarking on the usual epic quest in a fantasy world. You play Atsuma, a young enchanter who is living during a time of war and eventually develops into a kick-ass fighter and magic wielder who'll save the day. Hooray!
