PlayStation founder Ken Kutaragi has apologised to European PS3 fans and admitted that he's sorry for the delay to the European launch, telling AP: "We decided to focus on the Japanese and U.S. markets. I am so sorry not to be able to answer to all the expectations. We've been working hard to try to tackle the problem, but we see the delay is inevitable."
Kutaragi also had bad news for Japanese and US fans of the console with just 500,000 machines earmarked for global launch, with Japan -- Sony's home territory and its single most crucial market -- getting just 100,000 on PS3 D-Day and the US getting 400k, if our very simple mathematics droid hasn't short-circuited.
Kaz Hirai, Sony's US boss added, "The change in the release date for PlayStation 3 in the SCEE territories will not impact our launch for the system here in North America. Our plans remain unchanged, and we are on track to meeting our goals with this important launch. It is also important to note that the previously announced global shipment forecast of six million units within the fiscal year ending 2007 has not changed."

These uncut videos allow you to see three full matches of Virtua Fighter 5 goodness, demonstrating its eye-busting good looks and fluid animation... even if little else seems to have changed.
We'll let you judge for yourself as floppy-haired Lion gets a beatdown at the hands of Shaolin monkn Lei Fei, whilst Lai Chan takes parental discipline to new levels in a scrap with his daughter Pai. Of more interest to fans is the footage of one VF newcomer, the not-so-Chinese-sounding Eileen, whose monkey kung-fu takes it to usual suspect Akira.
It remains to be seen however as to what extent the series has progressed beyond its dazzlingly sexy looks.

Dante is unsheathing his sword and heading for a PSP slash-em-up, Capcom reveals
With the first Devil May Cry 4 info starting to trickle out of Capcom's Japanese fortress, Dante and his slash 'em-up action series are hot in our minds at the moment. But, thanks to a note on the company's Japanese website, it looks like the half-devil hero isn't just heading for the PS3, but Sony's slick PSP as well.
Unfortunately, the only info the listing offers about Devil May Cry's PSP debut is that it will be of the "stylish action" genre, which presumably means it won't turn out to be a Metal Gear Acid-style Dante card game, but something a bit more familiar to the console slash-em-ups we're used to - maybe even a port of one of the PS2 version of the game, which we'd be happy to replay on the tube with the aid of our PSPs.
Perhaps, with the official Devil May Cry 4 website due to open tomorrow, we'll get a bit more of a hard confirmation on the title, along with some gameplay info if we're really, really lucky. But with TGS only a few weeks away, it's likely that we won't have to wait long until we get our first glimpse of Dante hacking and slashing on the PSP. Stay tuned for more DMC love.

PS3 exclusive gets support for controller tilt; plus we bring you new screens
Developer Factor 5 has told Famitsu that its PS3-exclusive dragon-flying-and-fighting game Lair will use the motion-sensing capabilities of the PlayStation 3's controller.
So, it seems that games which feature flight are particular well suited to the high-tech yet rumble-free gamepad, as the only other PS3 game with confirmed full support for the controller is WarHawk.
If you're having trouble visualising what that might entail, fear not -- as we've also got some hot new Lair screens for you. Lair is hotly tipped to be a PS3 launch title in the US and Japan, and is almost certain to be a launch title when the PS3 finally pitches up at these shores. No doubt, we'll learn more when Sony makes its big splash at the Tokyo Games Show, so stay on the lookout for our TGS reports.

Just in case 1.5 PSP pwners feel at home with all the power in their hands, this one may make you
rethink!
The firmware 2.81 is launched officially on the Sony
PSP site in Japan and the main change it has in it is
that the 4 GB limit on memory stick is OFF.
This is a individual choice if once needs that above 4GB space or not (well , me not even afford it). But this one is going to bring in a new challenge to 1.5 owners who need that space. Figuring out how to read 4 GB+ sticks on 1.5
It was devhook till now, looks like diskhook or something is called for?
By the way has the TIFF exploit been patched in this one? Well i have not updated yet, maybe in a few hours i will. Will update the post
Breaking Info from b8a (Dcemu Translator) of the other new items:
2) With "ATRAC" files which have been protected in SonicStage and then saved to Memory Stick PRO Duo, the protection management data becomes corrupted, and become unable to be played back
3) Memory Stick PRO Duo media which have been formatted from either the PSP or a Memory Stick formatter are recognized as unformatted media when connecting the PSP to a PC with the USB cable

Via http://strmnnrmn.blogspot.com/
It's been a fairly slow week for progress on Daedalus. I've had a few busy days with work, and I was away over the weekend so I've not had much time to work on Daedalus since my last update.
One thing I have managed to implement is viewport scaling however. After the previous release I received an email from Chris Meyer-Rassow which had a couple of interesting points. He suggested that I should have a look at providing a setting to allow the emulator to run with an aspect ratio of 4:3, rather than strecthing everything to fit the PSP's 16:9 (or 15.88236:9 to be accurate
I had been meaning to add this option for some time, and as it was only a small change I decided to implement this feature for the next release. I've added 3 different modes, as shown the in screenshots below. The first mode simply scales the graphics up to fit the PSP's screen (this is no different from the current release of the emulator):
This renders at 480x272. Notice how the vertial lines for the 't' and 'f' characters look slightly too heavy. This is as a result of scaling the graphics up to fit the PSP's screen. (As an aside, this screenshot clearly shows another issue that I need to address - the zfighting which is clearly visible in the carpet. I have a couple of ideas for fixing this.)
The next shot shows the same scene with the new unscaled 4:3 viewport setting:
This renders at 320x240, and so avoids scaling up any of the graphics. You can see that the problems with the 'f' and 't characters has gone. On the downside, there's a lot of 'wasted' space around the screen.
The final settings shows the new scaled 4:3 viewport setting:
This maintains a 4:3 ratio (so we maintain the correct aspect ratio), but scales things up to 362x272 to make full use of the screen's height. We waste a little less space with this mode, but some of the original problems with the text are still visible.
In the end all three options are a trade off between making full use of the screen and quality. In the next release it will be possible to adjust this setting as the emulator is running so you can pick whichever one looks best for the rom you're currently running.
As a result of doing this work with the viewport, I also fixed a couple of bugs related to how I was emulating the N64's viewport. When I originally wrote the graphics code for the PSP version of Daedalus, I forgot to handle the N64's viewport scaling/translation, which causes problems rendering certain scenes, as demonstrated in Aerogauge below:
Notice how the car is being rendered off-centre (it should be in the top right hand corner). After my viewport fixes, the same scene now looks like this:
The same change also fixes various minor glitches in a number of other roms (including Mariokart and Waverace), so it's a nice bugfix to get in for the next release.

John Falcone, lone-star-gadget-sherriff at CNET, tips us off to his exclusive look at this Sony A/V receiver that uses, of all things, an onscreen PSP/PS3 Interface. The point? To let people configure the labels on inputs to say non-Sony things like Xbox, and make configuring the 7.1 channel monster by moving around icons, rather than dealing with the monstrous multi buttoned remotes and front panels on today's home theater schwag. Schweet.
The HDMI capable, multi-room receiver will go for less than $2,000. It'll upconvert analog and digital sources to HD resolutions. And the interface will keep us cozy while we pretend its a Playstation 3, since we won't get our mitts on those for a long time.

Dark Alex has released a Decryptor for the latest PSP firmware, heres what he posted:
How was it done? :
The keys have been extracted from the ram that could be dumped in 2.80 using the tiff exploit.
How to use:
You need : 1.00 or 1.50 firmware.
extract the data.psar from the 2.80 update eboot and put at the root of your memory stick.
Run the 2.80 psardumper mod and that's it !
I added support to psar dumper to decrypt 2.80.
Decryption could be done thanks to rest of kernel stuff in the 2.80 user ram.

Guerrila announced some of the extra features that will make Killzone: Liberation the game fans have been crying out for, including innovative interaction online and more downloadable content
Taking full advantage of the power of PSP, Killzone: Liberation comes packed with features including the single player mode, game-share capabilities, a unique third person viewpoint, providing players with a more strategic perspective to take in all the action, as well as a Tactical Command System, in which players can give orders to an AI buddy during intense stand-offs with the enemy. There are also a variety of six-player Ad-Hoc multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault and Capture the Flag thereby offering the diversity that Killzone fans and PSP owners are expecting.
The game launches on October 31st, 2006, simultaneously to the official community website at Killzone.com, promising to be one of the most interactive PSP websites to date. Here players will be able to access un-lockable content, construct their own profile, maintain friend lists and track their own personal achievements.
Shortly after the game's launch the Infrastructure mode with two new multiplayer maps will be available as a free download from the official site. This mode will deliver the same level of functionality as the Ad Hoc mode but will allow Killzone fans to test themselves against players across the globe. Also available after the game's Halloween launch will be a new chapter of the game, extending the storyline beyond the UMD experience. The chapter will contain four additional missions, new challenge games and multiplayer maps
Until then, however, fans will be able to hone their skills on some of the latest features that make this version of the game such a unique proposition.

Looks like Sony's ready to counterattack against that libtiff exploit that's been so helpful to homebrewers over the past few days. The European PSP site has revealed text suggesting the impending release of firmware version 2.81. Most likely, it won't include any new functionality. However, I hope Sony will prepare a downloadable demo to coax us into upgrading, just because free game demos are always yummy.

Heres all the info
LTE Game Engine 2 is the new graphic engine release by LTE Studios, it comes with a big speed improvement against LTE 3D Engine and now it has got most popular features of commercial engines.
The new Website brings you this new version of the LTE Game Engine (which old name was LTE 3D Engine), this new version has many new features and general speed improvements, read the changelog in the game engine area for further information
- Changed name from LTE 3D Engine to LTE Game Engine
- Added support for Mipmapped textures. Mipmapping gives an high speed improvement.
By default all textures are mipmapped, you can disable this feature with
driver->setTextureCreationFlag(video::ETCF_CREATE_MIP_MAP S, false);
- Clipping comes necessary when your meshes has big triangles, but for model and object
meshes (like the character) this is not necessary. By default now clipping is not
enabled by default: if you need the engine to clip your mesh type
node->setMaterialFlag(video::EMF_CLIPPING, true);
- Mesh triangle subdivision: Now it's possible to subidive the triangles of your meshes
wich sides are greater than a value. You can do this using the Mesh Manipulator:
SceneManager->getMeshManipulator()->subdivideTriangles(YourMesh, MaxSideSize)
- Added support for rendering into textures. This feature is very common, and the
engine now can do it. Look at the RenderToTexture example for further information.
- Multitexturing is now supported. This feature is limited because it doesn't support
multi texture coordinates, and it takes one more rendering pass (PSP GPU doesn't support
one-pass multi texturing). Look at the SpecialFX example for further information.
- Added Sphere mapping: this effect is now supported. To enable sphere mapping for your
scene node type node->setMaterialType(video::EMT_SPHERE_MAP).
- Added B3D Mesh support with full bone animator.
- Added celshading effect for your IAnimatedMeshSceneNode. To enable this feature for your
scene node simply do: node->addCelshadingSceneNode(). Look at the documentation for
further information.
- Added support for Dynamic Shadows. Look at the Dynamic Shadow example for further
information.
- Added ATRAC3 Audio support. Note that you can set position, get position, get duration,
only for mp3 audio files.
- Now the File Browser sort the list pushing the folder on the top of the list.
- The speed of the mouse cursor is proportional to the current frame rate, this allows
to use the cursor also at lower framerate.
- General speed improvement
- A Lot of Bug fixes
- Changed the intro logo screen and music effect
