Insert_witty_name posted this news:
TheLazy1 has ported Wolfenstein 3D to the PSP.
Here's what he had to say about it:
Here is a quick port of Wolfenstein 3D based off the SDL port and using some code from my other Nintendo DS port.
A few notes:
------------------
1) May still be a few bugs
2) No sound
3) No music
4) No saving
5) No loading
6) The analogue stick is used for movement, even in the menu
Default key mapping (from imap.txt):
Code:
shoot=cross
use=circle
run=square
cancel=triangle
menu=select
pause=start
nextweapon=right
prevweapon=left
strafeleft=ltrigger
straferight=rtrigger
You can redefine the keys if you don't like how it's set to by default, just check imap.txt to see how it goes.
If you do find a bug, let me know so it can be fixed.
I have tested this on firmware 1.5 (emulated) and through the 2.71 XMB with the latest homebrew enabler.
Thanks to:

Via Gamedaily
The PlayStation 2 was capable of having online play via several games offered for the system, but Sony was at a disadvantage by not prepping a dedicated network for said games. You could still hook up easily via online lobbies and such, but without Sony giving much presence to the proceedings, it almost felt independent instead of company-sponsored. Fortunately, the company's trying to make amends with their PlayStation 3 console, offering up a full-blown service complete with downloads and online-supported gameplay...even if all the details haven't been revealed on it yet.
Pros: For starters, the ability to really implement your personal style into the PS3 community. Sure, some may be turned off by certain kinds of gamers, but you have plenty of options available. You can put together video blogs with the help of the PS3 EyeToy and show the world what's on your mind, as well as customize videos and music. The service will also feature a vast supply of downloading opportunities, both through the PSP and with various "classic" downloads from the PlayStation 1 library. How this will work has not yet been broken down, however. The menu also looks easy to navigate through, and the basic level of service will be free. As for game support, well, it'd be killer to "frag" people in Resistance: Fall of Man. We're still waiting on confirmation.
Cons: The downloadable content through this service still looks kind of iffy. So far, only one game has been revealed for the service- flOW- and it's currently available for free. During the Tokyo Game Show, Sony proclaimed that several classic Mega Drive and Turbo Grafx games would be available through their service, although Sega indicated that such a deal for their Mega Drive library hasn't yet been reached. And we know that the "basic" service for the PlayStation 3 Network will be free, but what is that indicating about an "advanced" service? We need to get more details on that, as well as game pricing.
Overall prognosis: Sony has a long way to go before they can get a service that's on the same level as the Xbox Live Arcade. They have plenty of great promises in the making, especially with their PS1 titles, but with so few titles actually revealed (and in less than two months to the system's release, no less), it's looking kind of lowly right now. Only time will tell how this network shapes up.

Bapenguin over on the Evil Avatar forums has a detailed rundown of his firsthand observations of Bully, Rockstar's latest attention-getting title.
When Bully was announced back at E3 2005 to a small closed door group of press it immediately garnered a ton of attention. Unfortunately it was the wrong kind of attention with numerous groups and a lawyer that should not be named claiming the game was a Columbine Simulator. These people went as far as saying the game should be cancelled and that it was irresponsible of Rockstar to make such a game. These people are also idiots. They were irresponsible for not getting all the information on this game before making these outrageous claims. Bully is a caricature of boarding school life. Bully is no more a Columbine simulator than robotic crabs are a part of Japanese history.

Last week Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi delivered the keynote address at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show. As usual, he appeared confident, laying out his long-term vision for how the PlayStation 3 will take over many functions traditionally performed by the PC.
As for the PlayStation 3 launch, Kutaragi let Sony Computer Entertainment America president Kaz Hirai lay down the nuts and bolts in a video interview with GameSpot. However, the so-called "Father of the PlayStation," whose English is limited, did speak very briefly with British trade magazine MCV about the looming next-gen conflict.
When asked his opinion of the PS3's competitors, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii, Kutaragi was blunt. "We don't care," he flatly told the trade.
But while he was confident about the PS3's chances, the executive also admitted that the console's launch was not exactly going according to plan. "Right now...we can't manufacture enough blue laser diodes for our PlayStation 3s," he said, "But we will resolve that."
Blu-ray diode production problems pushed back the PS3's European launch to March 2007. The console is still set to go on sale in Japan November 11 and in North America November 17. However, its day-one inventory has been drastically cut from 2 million units to just 100,000 units in Japan and 400,000 units in the US and Canada.

Some news from the 0x89 team regarding the Shell for PSP they are working on:
Finally... i have some good news to tell.
Yes, i know its been nearly a month since ive posted news, but anyway...
I received a prototype touchscreen overlay the other day and i am currently building an adapter for it.
Now onto 0x89.
I have been told by Raphael that he has nearly finished the video player and in its current state it can play 480x272 avi, mpeg and wma at full speed!
I have also been informed by Insomniac that his image viewer and music player are also nearly finished, but he is still working on a few codecs.
I will contact them both to see if they can get PMF, AT3, VAG and FLAC codecs in them.
So, right now the codecs/file types are...
Video: avi, mpeg, wma, pmp, avc, divx.
Music: mp3, ogg.
Images: png, jpeg, bmp.
We still need a final GUI design... but i really hope that is finished soon, ill have to contact zettablade. (different timezones)
We also need to play around with the prxs, as we intend to flash 0x89 directly to flash0 and store configuration files (xml) and themes etc on flash1, this way if only one prx needs updating its a lot easier for us.
This is how it currently stands, we hope to include more. Also, another little thing i might work on (with help from Dark_AleX and Mathieulh) is 2.xx UMD loading from 0x89 with only the 2.xx kernel and needed prxs, but we will see.
Hope you enjoy reading!

News from PSPVault
With all this talk of the Playstation 3, emulating PSOne games on the PSP, the upcoming GPS accessory, and the upcoming camera accessory, Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories, homebrew on 2.71, and so on, it seems most of us have forgotten about some of the other plans Sony has for the PSP.
ITmedia didn't. In their most recent article covering the GPS accessory and the camera accessory, they make an important observation:
"Since the PSP camera as announced has an integrated microphone, there is a strong possibility that SCE's firmware update (version 2.90?) planned for Fall 2006 will support 'VoIP Phone.' If a 'TV Phone' function were also added, the PSP's possibilities as a digital device would expand even more."
It's not just speculation on ITmedia's part, either -- if you think back to the Playstation Business Meeting held earlier this year, you might remember that Sony outlined plans to add Voice over IP support, Memory Stick Boot, and Network support via a firmware update in October.
Thus far, Sony is sticking to their plans. The "Memory Stick Boot" certainly refers to the PSP's ability to play PSP and PS1 games via the Memory Stick, which is to be solidified with the introduction of the Playstation 3. Network support, though we're still not entirely sure, might refer to the PSP's mysterious DLNA client. You'd think Sony would publicize something like voice/video chat at Tokyo Game Show if they planned on introducing it so soon afterwards, but they have a tendency to keep rather important information a secret.
Whatever happens the next few months will be very interesting for PSP Owners.

Heres an excerpt:
Since EDI's [Sony’s E-Distribution Initiative] announcement at GDC six months ago, what has the reaction from publishers and developers been like?
The reaction has been overwhelming - on a worldwide basis. The announcement immediately struck a chord with the development community - from startups to veterans, from small to large. There have been lots of quality ideas for both PSP and PS3 (both game and non-game related applications), many of which we are moving forward with. The key for us is to find innovative ideas that try to offer new experiences. Certainly many developers have targeted the feature set of PS3 (in particular the tilt controller and in built hard drive). This has opened up many possibilities for a variety of content gameplay experiences that we can produce and distribute digitally.
What do you think of the notion some publishers have had in releasing a retail product that still requires a large amount of paid-for downloadable content (such as Test Drive Unlimited, or the suggestion that MMO items will all have to be paid for): is this a business model to be seized, or do we need to be careful that customers don't feel cheated?
We have to stop thinking in terms of a product launch being a finite offering and, in effect, the end of our involvement with that game. In the future, when we launch games on either PSP or PS3 (whether the initial launch be on disc or by way of digital download), we should see this as the start of the product's life cycle. The launch should mark the beginning of a relationship with the consumer that we need to develop and service. The key to the launch of a successful product or service will be measured by the creation and retention of an active community built around the initial content launch. I believe consumers will readily pay for quality content and service delivered on an ongoing basis.

New PS2 Game released:
description
Hundreds of years before Lenneth's tale, another saga lies concealed by the gods. The valkyrie Silmeria once served Odin loyally, but after an incident ignited a conflict between them, Odin forcefully reincarnated her as a human. The human soul that would carry her spirit was that of Alicia, Princess of Dipan. Ordinarily, Silmeria's consciousness would have been sealed, her spirit dormant until she was next summoned... However, the forced transmigration causes Silmeria's spirit to awaken within Alicia, leaving two souls to inhabit a single body. The spirit that should have been sealed has awakened a situation Odin will not ignore for long.
This installment introduces the new Photon Action System to the classic side-scrolling action format found in the original. Projecting photons grants players more freedom to explore and expands the action, resulting in challenging puzzles with clever solutions. Add to that "sealstones" that affect the laws of nature in dungeons, launching strategy to new heights. The unique battle system of the previous game has evolved into the Advanced Tactical Combination Battle System.

The cross platformer ARMORED CORE 4 will be hitting the PS3 on December 14th and will retail for 8,190 yen. It's Xbox 360 drop date and price has yet to be announced. While I'm not personally dying to pick up ARMORED CORE 4, the third person shooter does give a better window as to pricing for the PLAYSTATION 3 in Japan. Previously, we mentioned that Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog would retail for 7,140 (around US $60), but looks like ARMORED CORE 4 will command around US $70. Okay, I've hit PS3 software price quote post quota, but somewhere in the back of my mind I dread seeing the hundred dollar PS3 game. Sony, don't let that happen. For your sake.
