A planned trilogy of games based on the long-running British sci-fi drama Doctor Who has been cut short, as the British Broadcasting Corporation confirmed with Polygon that two sequels for Supermassive Games' adventure game Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock have been canceled.
Developed in a licensing partnership with the BBC, The Eternity Clockpremiered for the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PC platforms last year to a largely negative critical reception. Speaking to Polygon, the BBC's vice president of digital entertainment and games Paul Joffe noted that while the corporation's relationship with Supermassive "was and continues to be good," no further partnership projects are planned following next week's release of the PlayStation Move educational game Wonderbook: Walking with Dinosaurs.
Supermassive Games' current project is Until Dawn, a "teen horror movie"-styled game for the PlayStation Move.

When Sony Online Entertainment launches the PlayStation 4 incarnation of DC Universe Online on November 15, the game will look shiny and new, even if under the hood it's largely the same adventure.
As you'd expect, the PlayStation 4 game will look much better than its predecessor. According to senior creative producer Jens Andersen, the DC Universe Online team has reworked much of the original game's art for the new platform. "We're targeting 1080p at 60 frames per second," statedAndersen.
Most crucially, players on either the PS4 or PS3 side of DC Universe Online will be able to play alongside one another. No new content is being added to the PS4 game that's not already available in its predecessor, so this cross-compatibility shouldn't throw off the game's balance. Further, Andersen mentions a number of tweaks to core game systems that should make the learning curve less daunting while also rendering the game as a whole more intuitive to new players.
You can find more details on what to expect when DC Universe Online hits the PlayStation 4 at Sony's official PlayStation.blog.

PlayStation socialites can add 2000 of their nearest and dearest to their PSN friends list, after Sony activated the previously-announced limit increase this week. You can begin cultivating your buddy list via the Vita ahead of the PS4's launch next week, but the PS3 XMB still supports up to 100 pals only.
If your friend count goes over the 100 mark on PS4 or Vita, PS3 servers will automatically filter in active friends on the XMB. According to PlayStation Europe Community Manager Chris Owen, you'll be able to lock a preset PS3 friends list if you so wish. Additionally, Sony is planning support to display all of your friends in "most applications and games" on the system, but some games will keep to the 100 friends limit.

Namco's newly released screens of free-to-play, single-player entrySoulCalibur: Lost Swords are more revealing than they first seem. According toSiliconera, what we're looking at is a support system that lets you temporarily swap in a friend's character for your own.
Namco Bandai hasn't released any concrete details on what modes feature inLost Swords, but we do know the game's running on the "next iteration" of theSoulCalibur 5 engine. As Producer Masaaki Hashino told us in September, "The game system itself is quite different, it's been more streamlined and simplified so that people can more easily perform flashy, over-the-top maneuvers,"
Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is due to hit the PlayStation Network this winter.

Ever wondered how quickly you could make it to the local Budgens if you drove a Nissan GTR?
An update to the Gran Turismo 6 web page has revealed that Polyphony will at a later date release a GPS coordinate data map that users can download to their smartphone. This will track your movement through the world and then recreate whatever route you drove in the game.
So in theory any of your journeys can be mapped out for racing.
Also on the way is a GPS Visualiser that will allow owners of cars equipped with a Controller Area Network (CAN) to capture their real-life driving data and see it replayed to them in the game.
The game is also going to be patched to add 3D support – which is especially good news as GT5 offered some of the best (and most customisable) 3D effects on PS3.

Mounting evidence suggests that Sony and Microsoft will each launch firstparty peripherals for PS4 and Xbox One with virtual reality capabilities.Development sources have told us that PS4’s own “Oculus beater” will launch much sooner than Microsoft’s own wearable tech, of which little is known. It is expected, however, to be an internet-connected headset more akin to Google Glass. The PlayStation VR headset is indeed real and was close to being announced earlier this year, as widely rumoured. The announcement was held back, say our sources, as Sony didn’t want to complicate its messaging before PS4’s launchdate. Devkits have not been sent out to studios just yet, but one contact said that he expected to hear more about it soon – most likely once we’re clear of the launch window. The project should not be confused with Sony’s existing HMZ range of 3D headsets – it is a PlayStation product, designed specifically for use with PlayStation 4, said one developer. Our contacts knew nothing of Microsoft’s own forthcoming wearable tech – but reports across the media, most recently from The Wall Street Journal, describe a broader featureset and a direct competitor to Google Glass. Currently, the reports suggest that it is not explicitly linked with the Xbox division, and none of our contacts have heard anything from Microsoft on the matter, though the platform holder is apparently aware of Sony’s more fully developed VR proposition. The need for Microsoft’s Xbox One to compete with Sony’s PS4 on every viable battlefront suggests that Xbox One-compatible wearable tech is a matter of when, not if.

The PlayStation 3 passed the threshold of 80 million units shipped on November 2, just ahead of its successor's launch next week. Given the figure was 70 million this time last year, Sony shipped around 10 million PS3 consoles across the prior 12 months.
To compare the PS3 with its rivals, the Xbox 360 just beat it to the 80 mill markback in September. Of course, both consoles still sit way behind Nintendo's Wii, which reached the nine figures of 100 million in June.
Another item of note from Sony's announcement is staggering, although it's difficult to quantify exactly. According to the company, the number of "software titles" released for the PS3 is 4,332 as of the end of September 2013 - that's excluding downloadable games.
We'd have to think there's a fair few different versions of games in there, but it's still a huge number, even if the console is coming up to its 7th birthday. To the people who've played all 4,332 games, we salute you, you crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy people.

The video game industry is now a battle of billion dollar launches, with Activision announcing this morning that Call of Duty: Ghosts has shipped a billion dollars worth of the game into retail. The semi-awkward victory lap comes on the day Activision is set to announce its second quarter results.
"Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick as part of the announcement – a very, very accurate assessment. "And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2,including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching ata time when the franchise has never been more popular."
The billion dollar mark was likely chosen to contrast the game's accomplishment with that of Grand Theft Auto 5, which sold $1 billion to consumers in three days, where as Call of Duty shipped a billion dollars worth of game to retail stores. Call of Duty: Ghosts was the "most pre-ordered" game at GameStop this year.

Quick heads up for PS3 and Vita owners: Sony is performing routine maintenance on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, November 7. It's scheduled to take place between 8AM and 3PM PT (11AM to 6PM ET).
We're sure most of you know the drill by now, but if you don't: As long as you've signed into PSN in the past few days, you should be able to play online and use apps during the maintenance period. Don't count on being able to use the PS Store, Home, or tinker around with your account details.
If you're still unsatisfied, this gif should keep you occupied until the maintenance ends. Don't say we never give you anything, now.

Tribute Games, creators of Wizorb and including the team behind the Scott Pilgrim game, will bring Mercenary Kings to PS4 this winter. Mercenary Kings is a run-and-gun platformer in the vein of the Metal Slug series, but features a gun crafting system. The game is currently available as a buy in-alpha product on Steam.
"What we're really excited about, though, is the co-op multiplayer in Mercenary Kings," wrote Tribute writer Yannick Belzil in the PlayStation Blogannouncement. "And while it's still early for us to talk about it, the connectivity possibilities between PS4 and Vita are quite exciting for further multiplayer mayhem."
They certainly are.

Square Enix's relaunch of online RPG Final Fantasy 14 performed better than expected, the publisher has announced.1.5 million players are now registered for the game, two months after its PC and PlayStation 3 re-release. A PS4 version is also in the works. In its six-month financial report, Squenix revised up its expectations for the period following a round of cost-cutting measures and strong profits from Japanese arcades.Square Enix had previously forecast a loss of 2bn yen (£12.75 million), but now expects a profit of 4.7b yen (£29.8m), Siliconera reported.Things looked bad for Squenix earlier this year, when it announced a fundamental review of the entire company after suffering an "extraordinary loss". But it has recently announced new Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex games are in production, along with Thief, Final Fantasy 15 and a fresh Hitman title.

SideQuest Studios is flying PS3 game Rainbow Moon to the Vita on December 3. The dungeon crawler and strategy RPG hybrid supports cross-saving between the two platforms, and the Vita game's assortment of new features, fixes, and tweaks are also being patched in to the PS3 version.
As for Rainbow Skies, last we heard it was due on both PS3 and Vita sometime next year. However, its launch trajectory may be awry, after Sidequest CEO Marcus Pukropski took to the PlayStation Blog comments section to note the sequel "won't be out before the end of 2014 or maybe later."
Whenever it arrives, Sidequest says Skies will bring new combo attacks, monster taming and "up to 100 hours and beyond" of cutesy-faced RPG-ness.

Toys R Us is apparently joining GameStop in bringing a new $200 250GB PS3 bundle to its Black Friday deals, going by scans of a flyer posted at BFAds.net. Like GameStop, the US retailer's bundle includes Batman: Arkham Origins andfive-star offeringThe Last of Us.
On the Xbox 360 front, there's a 4GB system with Kinect that's also priced at $200. That bundles in Kinect Sports Season Two, Kinect Adventures, and an additional freebie in the form of Halo 3.
Hopping over to the land of Nintendo, the new Skylanders Swap Force 8GB Wii U bundle (which incidentally features Nintendo Land) is going for $260 - that's a chunky $40 saving. There's also a Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon blue 3DS bundle that's down $20 to $150.
It's not just about battles between platform holders, though. Starter packs forSkylanders Swap Force and Disney Infinity are at each other's plastic throats too, both priced $37.49.
Then, just to remind us of the extensive current-gen library, Toys R Us is reprising its Buy 1 Get 1 for $1 deal from last year. That deal comprises 150 games as wide ranging as Saints Row 3, Sonic Generations, Halo Wars, Batman: Arkham City, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. If your eye is stuck on this fall's big name games, the retailer also has Buy 1 Get 40 percent off on all the video games. Take that, wallets!
