NIS America announced that it will produce a localized version of the Japanese PlayStation 3 RPG Mugen Souls Z in North America and Europe next year.
Developed by Hyperdimension Neptunia creator Compile Heart, Mugen Souls Zis a customization-focused role-playing game featuring unique dialogue-based battle mechanics. The series' previous entry, Mugen Souls, hit store shelves in North America and Europe last year. Mugen Souls Z will premiere at retail and as a PlayStation Network digital download in 2014.
As was the case with the original Mugen Souls, NIS America revealed that it will cut a limited amount of material from Mugen Souls Z's western release, due to "the sensitive nature of some content." NIS explains the nature of these edits in this forum post, noting that a risque bathing minigame and its associated imagery will not be featured in the game's western release.

Abstract first-person stop-and-smell-the-roses simulator Proteus is set to launch on PS3 and Vita next week. Europe and Australia get it on Wednesday, 30th October, while North America gets it a day earlier.Developed by Curve Studios, the team responsible for porting Lone Survivor and Thomas Was Alone to Vita, Proteus' PSN port is a Cross-Buy affair, so purchasing it on one Sony platform automatically unlocks it on the other. One new addition in the Vita version of Proteus is that players will be able to generate in-game islands somehow based on their real world location. Additionally, they'll be able to directly effect Proteus' environment - a new addition since its initial PC release earlier this year."It's been exciting working with Curve and Sony to bring Proteus to consoles," said Proteus co-creator David Key. "Only a few years ago the idea of designers like David [Kanaga, co-creator] and I being able to bring their creations to a console audience would have been a nearly impossible goal. I'm very proud to be able to bring the game across to a brand new audience."“Proteus is something very unlike every other title we've worked on so far, and it really is something special," added Curve Digital managing director, Jason Perkins. "We've been working hard to add features to the PlayStation game that enhance the experience without moving away from the exploration, discovery and mystery that Proteus is all about.”Our Oli Welsh was rather smitten with Proteus upon its February release. "Proteus is a brief experience, and for all its mysteries, has a disarmingly straightforward message about nature and mortality," he wrote in his Proteus review. "Its randomness and secrets make it worth playing through a few times, and beyond that, it's easy to imagine wanting to return to it just for respite from a stressful day or a noisy city."

Namco Bandai is hosting a PlayStation Plus-exclusive beta test for Dark Souls 2 in EU this Sunday, October 27.
The beta will kick off on Sunday morning at 7am and span just three hours until 10am (UK time).
The beta software is available to download now, and since the beta phase is so short Sony recommends that you download and install the software ahead of time.
Dark Souls 2 beta access kicked off in US for a limited run of players on October 12. The beta will open up to approximately 30,000 more players on October 27.
For US players, a 'universal code' redeemable via the PS Store will be posted on the game's Facebook page or sent to players via the PSN message inbox. The first 30,000 people to redeem a code will be able to download the Network Test client.
The US servers will go online from 11:00pm Pacific on Saturday October 26, and run until 2:00am Pacific, Sunday October 27.
Beta participants will require 3.7GB of free space on their PS3 HDD and will be encouraged to report any issues they encounter.
Containing "an entirely new area of the game" and "overwhelming enemy encounters", the beta will let participants "delve into one of the most treacherous areas of the Dark Souls 2 world".
Namco started taking beta registrations in North America and Europe/Australasia last month.
The publisher has confirmed a Dark Souls 2 release date of March 11, 2014 in North America and March 14 in Australia and Europe.

The PS3-bound HD port of Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation will arrive on the US PlayStation Store on January 14.
Ubisoft producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov confirmed the news today, following confirmation of the port's development in September.
The PC version of Assassin's Creed Liberation HD will be released on January 15. The Xbox 360 version is yet to be dated.
Originally released on Vita, Liberation HD promises visual improvements, remastered music, new sound effects, gameplay refinements and new levels.
Starring the series' first female protagonist, Aveline, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation is set in and around New Orleans in 1765, and first launched on PS Vita last year.
We said in our 8.0 Assassin's Creed Liberation review: "Some rough edges, but this is a quality game on a machine lacking in console-calibre blockbusters. Just remember, the score is relative to the platform."

The PlayStation 4 may not reach stores until November 15th, but that hasn't prevented the DualShock 4 from showing up early -- some Canadian Twitter users have spottedthe controller at retail stores. While it's not clear that stores are allowed to sell the new DualShock, TheRugbyGodGamer claims that GameStop Canada is letting pre-order customers pick up their purchases. Those lucky few who score gamepads can use their prizes right away, at least. YouTube member Udetto has posted a video (after the break) that shows the DualShock 4 handling PS3 games that support USB input; it's only titles that insist on Bluetooth which aren't compatible. The experience won't compare to that of using the PS4 itself, but it may tide over gamers who can't stand waiting for the Sony console.

Earlier this year at the PlayStation 4's coming out event, Mark Cerny, the system's lead architect, announced that gamers would be able to use real names on PlayStation Network. Today, Sony re-confirmed that news to Kotaku, stating that it will be available as an option at launch, although gamers can still opt to elect an alias. The move clearly highlights a different, more social direction for PSN, which up until now has just been a digital storefront. Apart from live video streaming capabilities, we don't have many more details about Sony's planned evolution for PSN, but we do know that, unlike Microsoft and its Xbox One, gamers won't have to wait to unmask themselves online. For its part, Microsoft does intend to let gamers use real names within itsFriends app, but that option isn't set to go live until sometime after next month's Xbox One release.

Having told many gamers earlier this week that their PS4 pre-orders had been cancelled, Target has now made amends.
MCV reported on Monday that Target had told customers who had pre-ordered either the DriveClub or Watch Dogs PS4 bundles that they were no longer guaranteed their consoles. However, the retailer has now backtracked.
“The release date for the video games Watch Dogs, Drive Club, The Order: 1886 and inFamous: Second Son has been delayed,” it said in a statement to Kotaku. “As a result, Target cancelled pre-orders for Sony PlayStation 4 consoles that were going to be bundled with these titles.
“We sincerely apologise to guests who were inconvenienced and are working directly with them to ensure they receive the console they selected by their original order date. There was no impact to Sony PlayStation 4 pre-orders that were sold independently or bundled with other game titles.”
Of course, neither inFamous or The Order have actually been delayed as they were never said to be launch games – it seems however that Target still apparently offered both as part of PS4 launch bundles at some point.
In emails to customers Target has also offered a $100 Target eGiftCard as an additional apology, confirming that all original hardware orders will be honoured.

At least, that seems to be what a new article from The Daily Mail is implying.
Carrying the headline “CCTV shows dramatic moment 'model pupil', 15, held up bank workers at gunpoint in Grand Theft Auto-style robbery” the story goes on to highlight among its six-bulletpoint strap that:
- Judge said at previous hearing the child was 'acting like a real-life action video game'
- The raid was carried out in the week Grand Theft Auto V was released
“Dressed all in black, with the fur-lined hood of his coat pulled tightly over his head, the teenager is shown pointing the weapon at staff members during the raid, which he carried out in the week Grand Theft Auto V was released,” the story says.
“District Judge Ian Lomax told Liverpool Youth Court last month that the teenager was 'acting like a real-life action video game'.”
Only when the reader delves deeper into the story is the following statement, which could easily have set a very different tone for piece, discovered:
- Judge Clement Goldstone said 'it was not that sort of case at all' as the boy's family would not allow him to watch 'inappropriate' television programmes, films or video games.
Indeed, the guilty party was only apprehended after his mother discovered the fake firearm and dye-stained cash haul in his bedroom and decided to hand him over to the police.
Prosecutor Kim Egerton said: “She (his mother) had raised him to understand if he did something wrong there would be consequences and though she loved her son it was the right thing to do.
“'As such, my lord, the honesty, integrity, and decency of this family shone through by their actions.”
The court was also told that the youngster had been driven to robbery because he not only “'envied the material possessions of his friends” but also wanted “to reduce the financial burden on his family, who were having to pay for private tuition for him as his school grades were declining”.
Anyway, sense and reason aside, if GTA V is responsible for all crime during its launch week is it also responsible for everyone who decided to get a haircut? Or go mountain biking in the hills? Or visit the beach? Or play tennis? Or STOP a robbery? All of which can also be done in GTA V.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, the PS3 HD bundle of Tales of Symphonia andDawn of the New World, is coming to Europe and Australasia on February 28. The remastered RPG collection remains registered to arrive in North America sometime in "early 2014."
Namco Bandai also announced today the bundle's collector's edition is headed for Europe and Australasia, limited to 10,000 copies across both regions. It includes five Chibi Kyun Chara figures, a paperback novel chronicling (ho ho hoooo) the events between Symphonia and sequel Dawn of the New World, a soundtrack, and "special collector's packaging."
The same collector's edition was announced for North America earlier this month, limited to 15,000 copies across the region and priced $100.

In its ongoing efforts to push players toward the PlayStation 4, Sony has added four new games to the PlayStation Network Store, all of which can be pre-ordered right now.
This initiative kicked off last week, as Knack and Warframe pre-order optionsappeared on the PlayStation Network Store. Today, these games are joined byAssassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Killzone Shadow Fall. Additionally, the PSN also offers pre-orders on the limited Gold Edition ofAssassin's Creed IV, as well as the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Ghosts. As you'd expect, these special versions cost more than their standard counterparts, but they also include physical bonus items for truly dedicated fans.
Alongside this news, Sony has also revealed that those who have already pre-ordered current generation versions of Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV or Call of Duty: Ghosts can upgrade their pre-order to the PlayStation 4 iteration of those games for $10. You can find full details on how this process works by visiting Sony's upgrade page, or you can visit the Sony Entertainment Networkto place your pre-orders.

October 23rd, 2013, 00:54 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Computer Entertainment experimented with a number of radically different form factors for DualShock 4, including one with a similar layout to Xbox 360's controller, according to Toshimasa Aoki, manager of the company's product planning department.
"At the very start, we were thinking of drastically changing the controller," Aoki told GamesBeat.
"We tried out new devices, changing the form factor. We'd start from there and then try to talk to the game teams and tweak toward what the best form would be to have for those new devices. So we made, I don't know, more than 20 prototypes. Some had no buttons, just touch panels. Some were rounded. All this crazy stuff."
Aoki likened one of the prototypes to the Xbox 360 controller, particularly with regard to the placement of its analogue sticks.
"We did test having the analogue sticks on top, since the Xbox has the left side on top [above the D-pad]," he said. "Especially from the shooter teams - we got feedback that that's what they wanted. They knew that consumers liked the 360 for shooters.
"[But having the two sticks symmetrical on the left and right sides] is kind of in our DNA. The prototype team, myself, and also the management team really felt that having this look is the PlayStation look, and we had to keep that."
Sony also created a prototype with both sticks placed at the top of the controller, a format which Nintendo would adopt for the Wii U Pro controller. "When Nintendo came out with that, we were like, 'Wow, that's just like our prototype!'," Aoki said.
Sony ultimately opted to abandon this prototype as it clashed with the now natural expectations players have when using a game controller.
"If we moved the X up there, it just breaks all the muscle memory," Aoki said. "The right hand mostly goes for both buttons and sticks, but the left hand stays on one or the other and usually doesn't switch around [between the left analogue stick and the D-pad]. That's why it's OK to switch around the left side. But switching the right side really breaks the gamer's experience."
Mark Cerny, lead system architect on the PS4 and designer of upcoming platformer Knack, previously said Sony's testing provided empirical evidence that having two joysticks together, as it has since the first DualShock, worked just as well as offsetting them.
"We made and tested a ridiculously broad style of controllers," Cerny explained, "and we would actually have people play games with them. And the current controller design came out of that. We did indeed conclude that the two joysticks on the same level works perfectly well. That did come out of our testing."

Sony Online Entertainment is planning a significant upgrade to DC Universe Online in preparation for the launch of PS4 next month.
‘Game Update 31’ will offer “a sweeping, game-wide graphical upgrade, a massive design effort to polish and re-master the core levelling game, and a host of technical work that prepares DCUO’s underlying technology not only for launch on a next generation gaming console, but for a long future on it as well”.
Textures will receive a notable boost on both PS4 and PC while in-game areas such as Centennial Park in Metropolis and Robinson Park in Gotham City have been completely rebuilt.
The update will roll out first on PC and PS3 at the beginning of next month while the PS4 version is expected to arrive “within the console’s launch window”.
“It’s been a lot of hard work in a short amount of time, but we’re thrilled to be one of the first free-to-play MMOs on this next generation gaming console,” the game’s executive producer Larry Liberty said.
“It’s been a lot of hard work in a short amount of time, but we’re thrilled to be one of the first free-to-play MMOs on this next generation gaming console. This is without a doubt the biggest technical update we have ever done.”

Sony has responded to the inevitably poor consumer reaction to its recent announcement that the PlayStation 4 will cost the equivalent of nearly $2k when it launches in Brazil.
Polygon reports on a translated PlayStation Brazil blog posted by Sony Latin America general manager Mark Stanley, who details why the current price tag sits at R$3,999 for the region.
A chart on the import process was provided, with Stanley explaining that 63 per cent of the cost is "allocated to compensate for the fees and taxes that are applied to the product during [this] process."
Stanley also admitted that, as far as Sony is concerned, the present situation is bad for both sides of the table – even offering up the idea of Sony manufacturing hardware in Brazil to avoid the heavy import costs as a possible solution.
“[The price] is not good for our consumers, and it is not good for the PlayStation brand.”
"We will continue dialogue with government agencies to help us reduce the heavy tax burden that gamers, retailers and Sony Computer Entertainment America must pay.”

Is it exciting that you’re going to be able to use the PS4’s new DualShock 4 controller with your PS3?
The internet seems to think so. As discovered in a Computer Spiele video below, the DualShock 4 seems to work on PS3 providing it’s plugged in.
There are some caveats, though. While the YoUTube user was able to play Urban Trial Freestyle without any problems other games were less successful – FIFA, for example, seemed to be OK with the menus but failed to recognise commands in-game.
And obviously things like the touchpad don’t work at all.
It was revealed earlier this month that the DualShock 4 will work on PCs to a certain extent.

Previous release doesn't justify work of port, says Criterion creative director
The Wii U and PlayStation Vita will miss out on another EA title thanks to poor sales, as Criterion creative director Craig Sullivan revealed that Need for Speed Rivals won't arrive on either platform.
EA said in May that it didn't have any titles in development for Nintendo's new console – a position it has since softened – and it's next generation Frostbite 3 engine hasn't been ported to either the Wii U or Sony's PS Vita.
"[Need For Speed Most Wanted] didn't really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market," Sullivan told The Sixth Axis.
"We did a load of extra work on the Wii U version, and we had a lot of guys working on that stuff, you know?"
The news that Ghost Game's latest installment of one of EA's most popular franchises sounds like the AAA situation isn't improving for either platform.
"[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts," said Sullivan.
"The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game."
Though the Vita hasn't done terribly well in attracting major third parties, a number of indie developers have seized on the platform as their own private playground.
As EA lets yet another major release slip by, consumers that shelled out for the handheld are more likely to pay for the smaller games that might have gone unnoticed in the shadow of triple-A marketing.

Publisher 2K is going the Season Pass route with WWE 2K14 - its first stab at the IP since acquiring it from THQ earlier this year.Said Pass will cost £15.99 and covers three-and-a-bit lumps of DLC, which cost £6.99 if bought separately. It could go on forever.
The first lump, arriving November, includes a New World Order-themed extra wrestler pack (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Macho Man Randy Savage, Syxx, Curt Hennig and Scott Steiner) and a cheaty Accelerator that unlocks everything in the game. That wrestler pack costs £6.99, and the Accelerator costs £1.59 (due out 1st November alongside the game). Wrestler The Giant - The Big Show, not Andre The Giant [thanks, The_B and kunadr] - is thrown in for free. The second lump, arriving December, is the WWE Superstars and Moves Pack (£6.99). This has extra wrestlers Fandango, Big E Langston, Brie Bella and Nikki Bella, plus 30 new moves and taunts. The Pack costs £6.99. Valet-slash-Diva Summer Rae is thrown in for free. The third lump, arriving January, has Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, and 'Ravishing' Rick Rude! Remember them? Bruno Sammartino and Dusty Rhodes are a part of the WWE Legends and Creations pack as well, as are 15 new Superstar customisation parts. Manager and wrestler Virgil is thrown in for free.If you opt for the £15.99 Season Pass you get all the above, some online badges plus Scott Hall and Kevin Nash in The Outsiders garb.WWE 2K14 arrives 1st November on PS3 and Xbox 360. It'll be interesting to see what impact 2K and its chequebook have had on the series - apparently developer Yuke's and WWE were both owed millions and millions of dollars by THQ.
