SideQuest Studios has confirmed plans to release a Vita port of its 2012 PS3 game Rainbow Moon in December.
The game will arrive as a digital download-only offering via the PlayStation Store on December 3 in US and December 4 in EU.
Rainbow Moon is a strategy role-playing game released for PS3 via the PlayStation Store in Julythis year. Reviews for the title were mixed, with many sitting in the 7-to-8-out-of-10 mark.
The Vita port promises to deliver "over 30 new features, improvements, and bug fixes".
According to SideQuest CEO Marcus Pukropski, "The biggest new addition is Cross-Save, meaning that any progress you make on your Vita can be continued on PS3 and vice-versa."
He goes on to detail, "XP counters in the victory screen can now be skipped, items can be used directly from the quest vendor and left-stick control has been improved reducing the chance of walking in unintended directions while in battle mode."
The Vita version will also retain the PS3 version's solid 60 frames-per-second performance and "little to no loading times".
All of the improvements added to the Vita game will be introduced to the PS3 version via a free patch due for release next month.

You might remember the PocketStation, but most of you probably don't -- it was a Japan-only peripheral that launched over there way back in 1999. Another thing rising from the dead today, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has just released highly-confusing teaser video promising a big PocketStation announcement on 5th November, two months shy of its 14th birthday. Despite the lengthy four-minute tease, there's no mention of exactly what PlayStation has planned -- a similarly-behaving app for smartphones? A new peripheral for its consoles and handheld? Just some new adorable plushies of the PocketStation's cat-like prot

While Sony's third home console has seen transparent controllers before, this is the first time that they've also packed a rumble. Announced a day late for Halloween and headed to Japan only for now, the press release suggests that being able to see the inner workings makes it the first 'skeleton style' (translated from the Japanese) controller. The not-even-slighty-spooky DualShock 3 will go on limited sale December 19th priced at 5,500 yen (about $56). It's not cheap, but then limited edition gaming merch never have been.

PayPal support for Sony Entertainment Network, the company's online digital content hub, is nothing new -- Sony integrated the billing option in January of this year. Now, however, PlayStation 3 users that want a more secure way to fund their purchases directly within the PlayStation Store will find PayPal as an alternative at checkout. There's still a $5 - $150 cap on the amount you can add to your wallet, so you can't exactly go hog-wild with the downloads. But, hey, at least you now have even more flexibility to drain that checking account.

If you happen to be one of the other five people who own an Atari Jaguar, you've probably played the excellent Tempest 2000. As chance would have it, a few months ago Llamasoft announced they were approached by Sony to write TxK, based"...on the essence of the original T2K. ... . We're not going to overload you with ultra psychedelia, but we will make it fluid and colourful and awesome-looking ... We're going to give you a perfect treat for your eyes, ears and thumbs with a modern extrapolation of one of the best shooters ever made on hardware that's just perfectly suited for it, and in a way that retains the purity of the original design."A couple of weeks ago, a working version of TxK was demoed at Play Expo. Read below to see the video. It really seems to retain the aesthetic of Tempest 2000 enhanced by modern hardware and a full color range, with a touch of (you can kill enemies at the rim somehow at least).

Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal, the award winning studio behind the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Human Revolution today released the first trailer in a new series of stylized videos that focus on the rich tapestry of THIEF™; its City and its characters.
Each trailer in this new series tells the story of The City from the perspective of a different character in THIEF's narrative describing what life is like in the broken, repressed City that is being ravaged by the evil Baron Northcrest and the mysterious sickness known as ‘The Gloom’.
The first trailer focuses on Basso, a former boxman (safe-cracker) turned fence, who uses his vast connections to The City’s underworld to organize thieving jobs for Garrett. He owns an intelligent, but bad tempered magpie called Jenivere who delivers messages for him. Garrett might consider himself a loner, but Basso is the nearest thing he has to a friend - and whether he readily admits it or not; he rather likes the fellow.
THIEF launches on February 25, 2014 in North America on Windows PC, PlayStation®3, PlayStation®4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The new trailer, Stories from the City - Part 1 – “Basso’s Gamble” can be viewed on YouTube [].

Sony is very encouraged by the early response from consumers to its soon-to-be released PS4
Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony Computer Entertainment is a Japanese videogame company specialising in a variety of areas in the...
playstation.com
Sony's games business may have lost $8 million in its recent quarter, but the good news is that early indicators for the PlayStation 4 are very positive. In the company's earnings call (as transcribed by Seeking Alpha), CFO Masaru Kato enthused, "Compared to past platforms, the pre-orders that we have received for this new platform is much, much, much higher."
Sony is expecting to sell 5 million units by the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2014, and the company is bullish on its projections given the pre-orders it's seen so far. An exact number hasn't been provided, but in August Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House did note that over 1 million units had already been pre-ordered. After the launch of the PS3, the console went on to sell about 3.5 million units by the following March, so if Sony can hit 5 million in that same period with PS4 it would be a significant improvement.
Furthermore, it could be a boon to the games business' bottom line. "We expect the PS4 to contribute to profitability at an early stage due to lower hardware costs and diversification of its revenue streams through network services," the company stressed during its earnings call.
The PS3's Cell chip and Blu-ray drive were notoriously expensive at the time of the console's launch, so the fact that Sony can keep costs in check for the PS4 is hugely important.
Later in the call, Kato stressed that PS4 pre-orders have been more than just people adding names to a wait list, "but in some -- in most cases, put down certain amount of money for these pre-orders." He added that Sony is very happy with the strong third-party support for PS4 as well. "And sometimes, when we launch a new platform, the software catalog is not sufficient, or after the launch, sometimes, you don't have good titles following the launch. But this year, on a comparative basis, I think we have a much more stronger lineup of software coming," he said.

“Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week’s launch.”You have to admire his honesty. Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin there, setting some corners of the internet aflame with one nonchalantly-phrased, specially extended tweet confirming a minor difference between the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Call Of Duty: Ghosts. Most people might have seen this, shrugged, and probably moved on with their lives. But many didn’t. In an unprecedented piece of timetabling for the games industry, we’re about to see a new PlayStation and a new Xbox arrive within days of each other, and Sony and Microsoft are battling over each and every sale. This stuff matters. When players have a straight choice between two consoles, it becomes tribal. Paying a giant corporate entity hundreds of pounds, dollars or Euros for a new videogame console isn’t something you should take lightly. Are you Xbox or PlayStation? Why?And in justifying that choice, citizens of the internet want answers. Which is more powerful? Which has the better games? The latter question comes down to personal taste, but the former, well, that can be objectively proven. (And we make no apology for playing our own part in that debate).A slight difference between two versions of the same game is all NeoGAF needs – there are countless threads on the web’s biggest games forum comparing the different versions of Battlefield 4 and Call Of Duty: Ghosts already. The thread based on Rubin’s tweet alone stretches out to, at the time of writing, 70 pages and 3,446 individual posts. Remember, this is a discussion about barely noticeable difference in two versions of the same videogame. The internet, ladies and gentlemen.Endless debate about resolution discrepancies will change very little, but this latest development does feed into and enrich the wider narrative of this race, which has been developing since the start of the year. There’s lovable old Sony, humbly making up for the hubris of the PS3′s launch by claiming the hardcore’s hearts and minds with its cheaper, more powerful, ’#4ThePlayers’ PS4. Microsoft, meanwhile, plays the role of the blundering, but filthy rich, corporate giant – first announcing a console built around what it wants, then quickly amending those plans when it realised no-one else did. It’ll succeed by way of buying up format exclusives and spending whatever it takes on marketing.Though each little caricature might reflect some truths, they’re essentially nonsense. But these notions carry weight out on forums and social media. Sony and Microsoft are each large businesses selling you a product, fundamentally, and yet they inspire strange loyalties; every perceived blow to one console or the other becomes a weapon with which to taunt the opposition, and a tool to justify your choice. When comments threads and forums explode, it’s usually because the commenter disagrees with the writer; most would rather hear an opinion which enforces and validates their own than challenges it.

First game to use feature on next-gen console will be Arrowhead's top-down shooter Helldivers
Sony's next-gen console the PS4 will support cross-platform play with the PS3, it has been confirmed.
In a new FAQ for the PS4, Sony stated the functionality was "technically possible", and some developers may use this in future titles.
Speaking on Twitter, SCE president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida confirmed this was possible, and one of the first games to use the feature would be Arrowhead Game Studios' top-down shooter Helldivers.
Developers will also be able to implement cross-play between the PS4 and PS Vita. Through this, players will be able to voice or text chat with each other during gameplay through the Party application.
The news comes as Nintendo recently confirmed to Develop that it would allow cross-play between Wii U and 3DS titles, as well as games on other non-Nintendo platforms.
"We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo," a spokesperson told Develop.
"We are committed to helping developers realise the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems."
It appears unlikely however that Sony and Microsoft will allow their titles on their consoles to feature cross-platform play with other systems, meaning the feature will be used with mobile games.
Microsoft's Phil Spencer recently told AusGamers it would "make a lot of sense" to enable cross-platform play between the Xbox One and PC, but the company has yet to confirm whether this is possible.

Sony's games arm weighted down by PlayStation 4 R&D costs and PS Vita price cut
Sony’s PlayStation division lost close to £5 million in its second financial quarter this year, but still managed a small increase.
The company reported an operating loss of £4.98 million (0.8 billion yen; $8 million) in its second quarter financial statement today.
Sony blamed this loss on its price reduction for PS Vita in Japan as well as the strengthening yen against the dollar.
These losses were offset somewhat with an increase in software unit sales of £990 million (155.7 billion yen; $1.5 billion), and a year-on-year increase of 5.1 per cent, which, again, was attributed to the favourable impact of foreign exchange rates.
Sony’s losses in its second financial quarter, which ended on September 30th, compared to operating income of £14.6 million (2.3 billion yen) in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
The Japanese yen’s high exchange value, compared to the US dollar and euro, and an increase in PS3 software sales helped the hardware maker’s game division to remain “essentially flat”.
Sony added that its operating loss “significantly increased year-on-year primarily due to an increase in research and development expenses” related to the upcoming PlayStation 4.
Sony has been cutting production costs and staff as part of an ongoing plan to return to profitably. Overall, the electronics giant reduced its profit forecast for the entire financial year by 40 per cent.
In May, Sony cut projections for its game division by six per cent, but the firm is still hoping to grow this arm of its business in the coming year.

It's been just one month since the Kickstarter for the Awesomenauts:Starstorm expansion has closed. And already the first bits of content have been released on an unsuspecting public. It started with getting the exclusive skins into gamers' hands, which happened a few weeks ago.
And today the first major feature has been added to the game: Custom Games! Part of patch 1.24, this first release contains ample settings to customise your private Awesomenauts match to your hearts' content. It also contains a whole new game mode: Team Deathmatch! This new mode is also fully customisable. However, today's release is only the first iteration of the Custom Games feature. Expect to see more options and game modes in the future, as well as a full-featured Custom Games browser!
In the future, most of the Starstorm content and features will be offered as a separate DLC accessible to all Kickstarter backers, or through purchase on Steam. But today all Awesomenauts players can get a little taste for the Starstorm, because the current Custom Game feature is free to try for all owners of the game! Apart from the Customisable Games, lots of new stuff is coming in the near future. Just as a quick reminder: on top of Customisable Games, the Starstorm DLC will contain 5 more characters, a new map, a Replay System and Spectator Mode!
As another reminder: all of the Starstorm content will also make it into the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of the game, which is called Awesomenauts:Assemble! Awesomenauts:Assemble is aimed at the launch of the next generation console, and will be available for the same price as the Steam version of the game: $9,99.
The only thing that eventually will be different about the PlayStation 4 version is that the Replay System and Spectator mode will be covered by the awesome streaming features of the system itself.

Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will be missing 'Share controller' and 'suspend mode' features at launch.
When PS4 was revealed in February this year, Sony spoke of a featurethat would allow any member of your PS4 friends list to take control of your gameplay - remotely from another PS4 connected to the internet - to help you through a tough spot in a game.
But Sony has confirmed via an enormous PS4 hardware FAQ today that this feature will not make launch. No ETA was offered, but it's likely the cloud-powered feature could arrive next year, along with Sony's Gaikai-powered cloud game streaming service, which will allow PS4 access to games from older PlayStation systems - a solution to the PS4's current lack of backwards compatibility.
The FAQ also reaffirms the delay of PS4's planned 'Suspend/Resume' mode, which will let players suspend gameplay in a specific state, ready for instant resumption from the exact point it was left upon reactivation.
This is also expected to be added via a system update in 2014.
Read the full PS4 FAQ here. The FAQ touches on everything from the console's processors and technical capabilities, to peripheral and software support, the controller, the launch lineup and the finer details of its operating system.
Sony has confirmed a PS4 launch date of November 15 in US and November 29 in Europe and Latin America.

Sony has confirmed that the PS4's video sharing and streaming features will not support YouTube at launch.
Video sharing is one of the main new features of Microsoft and Sony's upcoming next-gen consoles, but neither will support internet video giant YouTube at launch.
Sony confirmed the news via a detailed PS4 FAQ published today, which covers just about everything you need to know about the console ahead of it's launch in November.
"At launch, PS4 users will be able to use the Share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller to upload gameplay videos to their Facebook account, or to stream live gameplay to Ustream or Twitch," confirmed Sony.
The firm goes on to promise "further news on other services to come after launch" at a later date.
Likewise, Xbox One's similar 'Game DVR' video sharing will also lack YouTube support, only allowing players to share snippets of video via Xbox Live. The feature will also be exclusive to Xbox Live Gold users only.
Sony goes on to stipulate that PS4 players will not be able to archive videos via Ustream, and should instead opt for Facebook uploads to store videos or archive live streams via Twitch (via account settings via PC).
A future PS4 system firmware update, the firm continues, will "allow the use of external HDMI-based capture devices".
The FAQ also confirms that PS4 will lack support for MP3 and music CD playback, seemingly restricting the console's musical abilities exclusively to Sony's subscription-based music streaming service, Music Unlimited.
