It’s not exactly a portable, but [Downing]‘s PS2 advance puts all the power of a Playstation 2 in the palm of your hands, all while being more popular that the Vita.
For the audio and video, the project uses a Cross Plane, a project from a slightly unsuccessful Kickstarter [Downing] pulled the plug on last month. When the handheld is plugged in to the Cross Plane, all the audio, video, and controller wires are transferred through a pair of cables, with the possible addition of wireless transmission should [Downing] ever want to revisit this project.
In deciding on what to use for a case, [Downing] had bought a few AG cases from Polycase but found the ergonomics severely lacking. Putting two of the case backs together, he found the resulting structure was actually very comfortable, and with a few simple modifications to add some holes for acorn nuts,
It’s a great looking project that really highlights [Downing]‘s talents as a console modder. He’s also thrown his hat into the Hackaday Trinket contest by engraving the Jolly Wrencher into the back of his project, which unfortunately isn’t seen in the video below.

Memories of the Shinsengumi, Rising Star Games today reveals Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God will be available for PlayStation®Vita throughout Europe from early 2014.

The cross-platform compatible update to last year's Ragnarok Odyssey will start knocking numbers out of monsters in early 2014 as Ragnarok Odyssey Ace.Both the PS3 and Vita version will cost $39.99 and include all DLC released for the original game, but launch copies of the Vita version will contain extra loot in the form of a 25-song soundtrack.
Ace will construct a new Tower of Yggdrasil dungeon filled with randomly-generated dungeons for players to bash their way through. Ace also carries an "enhanced battle system" as well as new bosses and items. Those that own the vanilla version of Ragnarok Odyssey will be able to bring over their character's "basic physical features." Weapon or monster cards will be transferable, too, as long as they aren't equipped to clothing or previously required via the Vita'sNear app.

Sharing physical copies of games on the PlayStation 4 may be simple - a claim Sony famously demonstrated with - but as detailed by the PS4 FAQ, sharing digital games is a bit more complex and restrictive. According to the FAQ, users will need to register one PS4 as their primary system, and on that system, downloaded games can be played by anyone. Users can also re-download their digital copies of games on other systems as long as they're signed into the PlayStation Network, but only that user can start up the game.
Designating a primary console also unlocks several other features, including Remote Play on Vita and the ability to purchase and pre-order content via the PlayStation App and have said content automatically download to your PS4. The FAQ also states that once you've chosen a primary PS4, "you can use up to 2 systems concurrently: the system activated as your 'primary' PS4 system, and one other system."
The FAQ also claims that, if a primary console is registered to an account with a PlayStation Plus subscription, there will be "numerous benefits" available to other users on that system, such as access to online multiplayer. The PlayStation Plus-holding account does not need to be logged in to utilize this feature.
The PS4 FAQ doesn't specify what other benefits for secondary users PlayStation Plus offers, or if the features mentioned will be enabled with the PS4's day one patch. Maybe Sony is saving that answer for FAQ Part 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Need for more PS4 info after news about the companion app and day one 1.50 firmware update popped up earlier today? SCE President Shuhei Yoshida just tweeted a link to the system's official FAQ, which answers questions users might have about game sharing and how friends lists work across the new system and older PS3s. As Sony was kind enough to point out during E3, game sharing on discs is simple and familiar. When it comes to downloaded games it's all about which system is designated as your "primary" PS4, which is where content you purchase through the app will automatically download, and is the one that hooks up to your PS Vita. Only one system can be your primary system at a time, and as long as your games are on that console, any user can play them or enjoy your PlayStation Plus features. It's similar to the current experience on Xbox 360, with an added bonus because your account can be in use on two systems at the same time.
Your PlayStation Network account will still work on other PS4s, but if you download a game there, only your account can play it. Switching to a different console as your primary is also possible, as long as you deactivate the current primary first. The other issue is how your new friends list will work across devices. On the PS4 you can have up to 2,000 friends, but the PS3 will only display 100 of them. If you're mobile, your Vita or PlayStation app should be able to display all 2,000. If there are any questions left, hit the FAQ and take a look.

Sony's PlayStation 4 US launch is now less than a month away and -- surprise, surprise -- it's going to require a Day One system update. The company just announced today that a significant software patch (about 300MB in size) will be necessary to enable a slew of functionality, like Remote Play on PS Vita and the Share button, that Sony's been championing through the year. Also going hand-in-hand with this patch is the release of Sony's second screen PlayStation App, which will be available on November 13th in the US (just two days before launch) and on the 22nd in Europe on both Android and iOS.

Rockstar has told Grand Theft Auto V players that their GTA Online cash boost has been a little delayed.
The developer last week said that all players of the game will see their GTA Online character credited with $500,000 of in-game currency to make up for the technical woes that plagued the game’s launch.
This is being split into two $250,000 payments, the first of which was at one stage said to be arriving this week.
That however is no longer the case.
"We hope to have an update for you on that very soon," the company said in the comments thread on its website, as spotted by OXM. "As others have mentioned here, we of course want to make sure player progress loss issues are addressed before providing everyone with their $500K. Thanks for your patience and please stay tuned."

Sony has at the 2013 Brazil Game Show announced a partnership between the Gran Turismo brand and the Ayrton Senna Institute.
As revealed by the F1 legend’s sister Viviane Senna, there will be a number of post-launch updates to Gran Turismo 6 that will “enable players to trace the roots of his racing career”.
Viviane established The Ayrton Senna Institute in 1994 after her brother was killed in lap seven of that year’s San Marino Grand Prix.
The precise details of the collaboration will be revealed at a later date.
Gran Turismo 6 will be released for PS3 – yes, PS3 – on December 6th.

Before Sony rolls out its next-generation console, it will introduce its next-generation mobile and tablet app. The company today confirmed the free PlayStation App will launch November 13 in North America, and November 22 in Europe.
The big draw of the iOS and Android app is that it will enable smartphones and tablets to be used for second-screen gaming with PS4 titles. One example given by the company is in The Playroom, which will come pre-installed on PS4 system. In that title, players will be able to draw images on their mobile devices and have them appear as 3D objects within the game world. The app will also let players watch their friends playing games, so long as the friend has uploaded video or chosen to live-stream the session.
Naturally, the app will also be tied into the system's social functions, allowing players to message their friends, look at their trophy collections, or purchase new games and DLC (but not video content) on the go. It will also serve as a basic remote control for the system, letting users switch the system into and out of standby mode, or (presumably) controlling media playback.

Gamers will, should they chose to, be allowed to use their real names when gaming online with PS4 at launch.
Sony confirmed the news to Kotaku, giving its machine another leg up over its high-profile rival Xbox One which will offer the same functionality but not until an unspecified later date.
Users will still have the option of using their PSN tag, of course, and there’s no way of knowing how many people will be interested in dropping the protection of pseudo-anonymity.
There will be an element of flexibility too, with the choice of using real names on PSN but then reverting to gamertags when gaming online.

Warner Bros’ Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition has joined Sony’s next-gen trade-up scheme.
Eurogamer reports that those who buy the PS3 version of the game will in the box find a code that, come the game’s PS4 release, will entitle them to buy the next-gen digital version for a discounted price.
If you buy the digital version of the game on PS3 then a discount will be automatically applied to the digital PS4 version.
Note that the offer does not apply for those who already own the standard Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Other games that offer a similar discounted trade-up include Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and NBA 2K14.

The DualShock 4 brings a lot of new features to the PlayStation party, but one bit of functionality has been lost on the way.
VentureBeat reports that the DualShock 3’s face buttons were analogue. This meant they were pressure sensitive, so as well as telling the PS3 if they were being pressed they were also able to tell it how hard they were being pressed.
On DualShock 4, meanwhile, Sony has reverted to digital buttons meaning they are simply ‘on’ or ‘off’, with no scale in between. It’s not a big loss, however – very few games used the pad’s pressure sensitivity features.
The story also contains another interesting detail:
“We bet you never knew that the DualShock 3 controller’s face buttons aren’t spaced equally apart: Square and Circle are just a teeny tiny bit farther apart than Triangle to X. No, seriously. Go take a look.”
They’re right!
“That’s changed on the DualShock 4, and the face buttons now form a perfect square. This tweak wasn’t just to appease some anal-retentive engineer at Sony. It’s to make a little room… to have more for the touchpad.”

It will be six months before players on other platforms get their hands on Sony’s exclusive Ubisoft DLC.
Both Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and the delayed Watch Dogs include “exclusive” content on both PS4 and PS3 – and a video below from Sony confirms the precise period of that exclusivity.
Although it hasn’t been categorically confirmed that the DLC will launch on Xbox and PC after this, there’s every reason to expect it will – even though Ubisoft hasn’t always ported exclusive PlayStation content to other platforms.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox go head-to-head in the latest issue of Edge magazine, which is available now in print, on iPad, Android and Zinio. You can take a look at the latest subscriber offers here, which are discounted for a limited time. Here, we compare the ease of development on each console. PlayStation 4
Lessons were learned. After eight years of memory management issues and Cell-related woe, PlayStation developers can look forward to a console more powerful on paper than Xbox One yet no more complicated than Microsoft’s own mini-PC. That extra overhead will give them greater room for manoeuvre when porting crossplatform games and more options when developing for PlayStation alone, but the consoles’ similarities are so numerous, developers’ only frustration is needing to port games at all.“There’s no real difference between them,” Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami says. “We only need one console. Why do I have to make two versions of a game? And when Xbox One was first announced it had lower specs than PS4, but now they’re almost identical. So either will do.”“I don’t think there’s a major difference between them,” Comcept’s Keiji Inafune agrees. “If you get down to the tiny details then maybe each is better at one thing than the other, but it doesn’t really impact the way you make a game. It’s not like PS4 or Xbox One are particularly hard to develop for. Quite the opposite: you can make whatever you want on either one, and that should be enough for anyone.”So the difference will be made in policy and support, and on that front Sony has stolen a daunting lead over its competitor, allowing developers permission to patch their games as and when needed, opening servers to match PS4 players against PC players if required, and actively pursuing and supporting indie developers. While Microsoft was busy buying Titanfall and Dead Rising 3, Sony was funding a hundred indie projects, including Metrico, Hohokum and Mike Bithell’s Volume. Microsoft will give developers two Xbox Ones just to get started, but Sony has been actively chasing independents for two years now and offering technical and financial support when needed. Whether a hundred arthouse games will sell a console better than a single Titanfall is doubtful, but there’s no denying which format is friendlier for the most developers so long as Sony is so firmly in the indies’ corner. Xbox One
Policies, not hardware, will dictate the ease of development on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Microsoft’s policies were an off-the-record joke for the developers we met at E3 and Gamescom. Some of those policies changed or were clarified, but others seem a mystery even to Microsoft itself. Will Xbox One allow crossplatform play between PC and Xbox? Nobody knows. How will free-to-play games work on the console? That’s undecided beyond a few specific instances. Will developers be allowed to manage their own patching schedule – essential for running an up-to-the-minute crossplatform game – free from Microsoft’s lengthy certification checks? Again, nobody knows.Get past the policies and, bar some complaints about drivers, Xbox One is no trickier to work with than 360. Like PlayStation 4, Xbox One mimics the architecture of a PC. But Microsoft’s 360 expertise has also been thrown at a console built for broader uses than Sony’s PC-in-a-box. The embedded memory is a throwback to 360 that offers Xbox One an edge in some operations, but would also make the console a marginally trickier development proposition had so many developers not spent so many years making 360 games. Snap Apps run in a Windows 8 environment, which again makes Xbox One a familiar place to bring software, and since switching is handled on the operating system side, developers don’t have to worry about implementing a form of Ctrl+Alt+Del support for a console.Eight years of western dominance has given Microsoft a head start, but that same dominance has made it complacent. What worked in 2005 won’t work in 2013, where games like Minecraft and League Of Legends thrive because they can rapidly evolve. If PS4’s Minecraft can be patched alongside the PC version while 4J’s Xbox port lags months behind, what then? If Titanfall’s first patch hits PC three weeks before Xbox One, Microsoft’s flagship exclusive will be compromised. It isn’t beyond Microsoft’s ability to adapt its policies to reflect the changing environment, but for now Xbox One feels like a console built for 2020 on policies designed a decade ago. There’s more comprehensive analysis of the battle between PlayStation 4 and Xbox in the latest issue of Edge magazine, which is available now in print, on iPad, Android and Zinio. Subscription offers are discounted for a limited time here.

You can gab and gossip with up to seven pals using PS4 voice chat, but the real test will be deciding which of your 2000 bestest buddies to invite to the party on November 15.
PlayStation Social Media Manager Sid Shuman revealed the figure on the PS Blog, saying, "Party Voice Chat will support up to 8 players on PS4, like PS Vita." On the subject of Vita, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida tweeted recently that party chat will work between Vita and PS4. So that's cross-platform, cross-game chat - not too shabby, really.
