Enterbrain reports that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has now sold 2 million copies, almost three weeks after Capcom’s shipment announcement and less than 50 days after the game’s launch in Japan. The strong sales of MHP 2ndG also helped PSP stays as the best selling system in Japan for two consecutive months and looking good to reach the 10 million units sold milestone.

A recently-released PS3 promo video offers a glimpse of what could be the next iteration of the PS Store, packing a search feature and video content.
At one point in the ad, screens of the PS Store whoosh past, revealing a search feature along the bottom panel of the Store that isn't in the current version.
In another fly-by shot, it also shows a video download page donning the logos of TV networks NBC, HBO, Cartoon Network (yes!) and MTV, among others. Could this be the first glimpse of what Sony has in store for PS3 video downloads?
Although no announcement has been made, Sony is expected to reveal plans for a video-on-demand system for PS3 for launch this year.
Check out the snapshots below taken from the trailer courtesy of eagle-eyed Scrawlfx.com, where you can also see the full, otherwise unexciting video of a guy acting like a complete plonker.

Broadband company PlusNet has said the day after Grand Theft Auto IV launched it saw its "two busiest ever hours for gaming in the UK".
The ISP watched 90,000 of you playing it online at one point, which is more than a third of its total subscriber base.
"The demand to play Grand Theft Auto IV online has been absolutely phenomenal. Our broadband usage figures have gone through the roof as customers battle it out on the streets of Liberty City," said Neil Armstrong, product director at PlusNet - over the moon and perhaps not for the first time.
"Our usage data shows that the day after release we had the two busiest ever hours for gaming in the UK.
"Gaming accounted for approximately 7.6 per cent of all downloads in that hour - we'd normally expect to see between 3.5 per cent and 5 per cent by gaming around that time of day," he added.
Between 8pm and 9pm on 30th April - the day after release - usage shot up by 30 percent on the previous day. The "unprecedented demand" continued early into the morning, with 4am to 7am traffic up by 35 percent.
The previous highest hour for online gaming witnessed by PlusNet was between 9pm and 10pm on 4th November, 2007. We're not sure what was special about this date; it was a few days before Call of Duty 4 came out, and the Sunday after Tabula Rasa and Hellgate came out.

We've lost count of how many Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers Konami has pumped out, but we don't care. They're all awesome.
The voice we call Trailer Voiceover Man has turned up to provide the commentary for this typically cinematic trailer, in a language we can all understand, for a change.
It talks about the new Big Brother-style technology in the game, and the crisis that Snake faces.
It's a streaming trailer that can be viewed here, though you might have to be patient.
Needless to say, if you're one of those subjecting yourself to a complete MGS4 plot blackout, you probably shouldn't watch the footage.
What you should know, however, is that Official PlayStation Magazine awarded the game a resounding 10/10.
"If you think you've got the measure of the game from the Middle East footage, you couldn't be more wrong," says reviewer Paul Fitzpatrick.
"MGS4 shifts gears constantly, innovating again and again. I can't think of another series that has remained as uncompromisingly true to its creator's vision, and given its 21-year gestation, I doubt even Kojima himself will equal it, whatever individual triumphs follow," he says.
"Ultimately, this is a game for the fans - and should be one. As for Snake? It turns out his last stand really is his finest hour."
So, it's pretty good, then...

A lengthy development period is at last winding down for Metal Gear Solid 4 as the game approaches its June 12 world release. But Hideo Kojima and the MGS4 staff aren't resting just yet. Today, Kojima revealed an ambitious plan to personally help launch the game throughout the world.
Kojima and key staff members will travel the world as the June 12 launch day approaches, holding talk events and signings for fans. The tour will take Kojima and crew first to London, followed by stops in Madrid, Milano, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and Paris. The team will then split into three, heading to Japan, New York and Los Angeles for launch day.
Closing off a press conference today in Tokyo, where this plan was first unveiled, Konami hinted at a few surprises for launch and beyond. At the end of the ceremony, as the press was getting ready to leave, a mysterious voice asked, "Will there be surprises on launch day?". The voice then continued, "Akihabara, New York, LA -- worldwide live broadcast." The voice also hinted that certain VIP guests will be present at whatever is going down in those three cities -- presumably a major launch event.
The mysterious voice closed off by asking, "So, how's that project going?", following with, "That man has moved away, but, the sequel." Finally, the voice said, "I see. Understood."
We immediately assumed that the sequel talk was with regards to a new Metal Gear game, with Hideo Kojima being the man who has moved away -- he has said that MGS4 will be has last Metal Gear Solid game, after all.

Movie director Uwe Boll reckons he could be the best person for the job of directing a movie based on Grand Theft Auto IV.
"Grand Theft Auto would be super interesting for me, and I think I would actually be the right guy to do it," he said, adding, "because my movies are all bloody and violent and I don't have a problem with action scenes.
"But look, they will go, in the end, with a Michael Bay or a Brett Ratner, and it will be a PG-13 movie made for $150 million. I think it would be better to make a $30 million, very hard, brutal movie without compromising, but I'm not optimistic."

When Sega announced Phantasy Star Portable for PSP, it seemed like a good fit. The PSP is doing extremely well for itself in Japan currently, and with Phantasy Star Online servers shutting down left and right, a move to a hot platform certainly can't hurt. With Monster Hunter Portable G 2nd for the PSP moving some 2 million copies in Japan, more group beast slaying and item finding over a wireless connection will almost certainly be welcomed by the Japanese gamer.
Unsurprisingly, when seeing the newly revealed artwork for Phantasy Star Portable, I was immediately reminded of Capcom's Monster Hunter; surely not an accident on Sega's part. Gone are the soft illustrations of the pointy-eared character cast from Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Universe, replaced by big action, big dragons and big weapons. The logo? Similarly Monster Hunter-ish in its grittiness.
Probably a step in the right direction for Sega, but we wonder how many Monster Hunter devotees will judge Phantasy Star Portable a worthy purchase by its cover.

SNK Playmore and Ignition Entertainment have announced the European release date for Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1. The compilation will be released on the PlayStation 2 in August, 2008.
The original Fatal Fury game was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world way back in 1991, chronicling the adventures of Joe Higashi and the brothers Bogard, focusing on their struggle with Southtown's criminal kingpin, Geese Howard.
Those of us old and wizened enough to remember back this far might chuckle at the platform which hosted the original Fatal Fury game. The NeoGeo was renowned for its ludicrously expensive games, some breaking the £100 pound barrier.
Nevertheless, Fatal Fury is fondly remembered by consolers, with many sequels spawning from the original's success. Indeed, the King of Fighters series was born from these humble beginnings.
Back in the present then, the first volume of the Fatal Fury collection will consist of the original game, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special and Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory.
"The Fatal Fury franchise contains a real piece of SNK’s history.’ says Peter Rollinson, product manager at Ignition Entertainment. ‘It was these games that helped mould the successful gaming track record that SNK enjoys."
Features include:
* Arcade Perfect conversions
* 4 games on 1 action packed disc
* 2 Player Co-op fighting
* Use your hidden abilities to inflict massive damage
* The first to incorporate two-plane fighting in a 2D setting
* Contains newly arranged soundtracks
* Bonus playable character – Ryo Sakazaki
* Colour Edit mode – Customise your favourite character

So you've conquered the links of Out of Bounds. You've gathered every outfit, club and ball for your golfers. You've even maxed out every character's loyalty rating, making you virtually unstoppable on any course. What else is there to do? Well, Sony's going to be rolling out the first of their new downloadable content for Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds later this week, starting with two new characters, Alex and Gloria. Each player will have their own strengths and weaknesses, which should add a little extra complexity to their playing style.
Hot Shots fans will remember Gloria, particularly because she's been in every Hot Shots Golf game released. While she had a quick appearance in Hot Shots Tennis on the PS2, Clap Hanz was waiting until the right time to include her in Out of Bounds. Supposedly, she has an excellent straight shot, but she's somewhat weak in bunkers. Alex, on the other hand, is a brand new character to the Hot Shots series. A television presenter and golf enthusiast, she's designed for intermediate players.
These two new characters will be available for $.99 each, and more downloadable content for Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds should be coming soon.

Sony has declared its intentions to feature online games at the forefront of its PlayStation 3 strategy in the future.
Speaking with The Seattle Times, Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley highlighted the importance of online genre.
"I think MMOs are going to be a real strong selling point for the PS3 long term - there's going to be some great ones on the PS3."
"You're not going to find "The Agency" on the [Xbox 360]," he added.
For those unaware, The Agency is a massively multiplayer online shooter currently in development by Sony Online Entertainment for the PS3. So he's right in the literal sense - we don't think Sony will bring The Agency to the 360 any time soon.
But we can't see a reason why something like The Agency couldn't appear on Microsoft's platform, though.

Konami has announced a UK Limited Edition version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as well as a special pre-order campaign.
The Limited Edition will retail for GBP 79.99 and will include a six-inch-tall Old Snake action figure, a soundtrack CD and a "Making Of" Blu-ray featuring a pair of high-definition documentaries including lots of chatter from Kojima Productions staff, including Hideo himself. The package is exclusive to Play.com.
The US version of the Limited Edition also promises "collectible packaging with exclusive artwork by famed Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa", but a spokesperson for Konami wasn't able to immediately confirm that for the UK.
Meanwhile, those of you who pre-order MGS4 from GAME can expect to be rewarded with a DVD called Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, featuring a seven-part documentary about the series origins and evolution - the same disc made available for US and Canadian pre-orders.
"Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is rightly seen as the stand-out title for 2008, and we were determined to come up with something special for its launch," said Martin Schneider, Konami's European marketing director.
"With interest so high, it is only right that we reward fans of the series for pre-ordering the game, and the Metal Gear Saga DVD is a stunning look at how the series has evolved into the phenomenon it has become. Likewise, the Limited Edition is a celebration of all things Metal Gear, and will be prized by those who buy it."
The full version of MGS4 is due out on 12th June.

via Eurogamer
Metal Gear Solid 4 creator Hideo Kojima has said his comments about being limited by the PS3 hardware were taken out of context as a result of Japanese to English translations.
He is, apparently, more than happy with what he had to work with and what he achieved, and points to the cultural difference in modesty for skewing the facts.
"I am Japanese, so I try to be modest. I'm an especially modest person. I don't wish to brag about it and say, 'I am the amazing Metal Gear guy', or say, 'This is the best one', just like how Americans brag [about] stuff like this," said Kojima in a translation on the PlayStation.com forums (translated by Kotaku).
"Westerners do not have a tradition of modesty, so the statements are translated correctly but the original meaning is totally different."
Kojima had originally said that conceptually the PS3 had appeared to be a dream machine with endless possibilities, and he had planned Metal Gear Solid 4 and its innovations with this in mind.
However, soon he had to cut back on his original vision once he ran into the "restrictions" of the Cell processor. The reality was taking just "one step" rather than 10. Apparently this was misconstrued. This is what he really wanted to say:
"Let's say this developer is making a new kind of car. He claims it can fly. And when you claim it can fly then the expectation grows so the developer sets his goals higher. The expectation is that if the car can fly then it should reach MACH speed. But it doesn't stop there; it soon gets to 'it should go into space'," said Kojima.
"However, the developer will end up going to the public and saying that the car reaches MACH speed but it fails to go into space. But he shouldn't give up, because for a car to even reach MACH speed and fly is revolutionary. I wished to transfer my thoughts like this, but it didn't work out very well."
The result is that Kojima may not do any more interviews with the English press, at least until his anger subsides.
"MGS4 isn't exactly my property so I don't have total control over it and sometimes I get confused with it. Some may be disappointed with the way I say things, but I am releasing this game with confidence," concluded Kojima.

Here’s a short demo of Ikuze! Gen-San: Yuuyake Daiku Monogatari (my poor translation says it’s like Go! Gen-san: A Carpenter’s Story) I downloaded from the PSP Japan site. It’s Irem’s side-scrolling action game featuring a kind hearted carpenter dying to help people and kick out an evil construction company, with the help of a girl friend who happens to be the daughter of another construction company.
The demo lets you play a portion of a street with four level of difficulties (beginner to legendary). The control is very simple, triangle for swing, square for knocking from top and X for jumping. Also, pressing X followed by pressing the down and triangle button together will unleash a cool special attack. Break the crate on top of the blue vehicle (see image above) for a helmet that will keep you safe from one hit. Once you’ve beaten the monster crane, don’t forget to jump on top of it and be the evil constructor for a few seconds Note: Save the unzipped folder into the “GAME” folder of your memory stick. The demo require Firmware 3.95.
The demo is too short for me but it’s surprisingly fun (Play-Asia.com has it for $48.90). The game is coming out in Japan on May 15th.
