While Toshiba still hasn't announced any new HD moves since withdrawing from the format war earlier this year, its Brazilian arm may be moving on with a hybrid HTPC. Powered by a Core Duo 6300 and Vista Home Premium, Semp Toshiba's Spectra packs a TV tuner and an optical drive ready for Blu-ray and HD DVD and should be available later this month. Society Eletromercantil Paulista merged with Toshiba in 1977 and has operated as Semp Toshiba in Brazil ever since, but it might be working a little more independently of its parent company than usual on this project, unless there are more Toshiba-branded Blu-ray products on the way. We'll keep this one on rumor status pending a more official announcement (or a significant improvement in our Portuguese skills.)

Monster Hunter keeps on selling over in Japan. The latest milestone represents a first both for the series and for the PSP: double platinum.
Capcom announced today that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has crossed the two million mark in Japanese shipments. This is the first time the Monster Hunter series has reached this mark, and is also a first for a Japanese PSP title.
While this is a shipped figure, the title is still one of the hottest titles at retail. The latest numbers from tracker Media Create have it in second place for last week, trailing just behind Mario Kart Wii.

A fresh trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4 has just snuck out of Japan and, as usual, it looks brilliant.
Konami should get awards for its trailer-making skills. Or maybe Kojima's team should just go into film making. Seriously, we'd have watched a couple of hours of this stuff.
It's all in Japanese and there's no subtitles, but that's okay because we don't understand what the hell's going on even when it's in English. All we know is "SNAKE-U" is doing some stealth, and people get killed. And the music is awesome.
Check it out for yourself right .

American gamers will be able to download a playable demo of echochrome from the PlayStation Store on PS3 and the PSP's web-based version today.
However, we've been told by Sony friends that the demo won't be part of today's PAL Store update, so you'll have to dust off your US logins to access it.
According to a post on the official PlayStation Blog, the demo offers the brief tutorial (and presumably a few of the early levels), not unlike the Japanese demo that you can already download.
The full game will have 56 levels on PS3 and 56 different ones on PSP, as well as a level creator tool on both systems, with the best PS3 efforts likely to be offered as downloadable content.
Speaking of which, "Additional content will be available from Day 1," according to blogger Kumi Yuasa, associate producer on the game, and this will consist of user-created levels from Japan and elsewhere in Asia.
That's only for the PS3 though - PSP owners will share stuff using ad hoc wireless.
Check out the PlayStation Blog post for more, or check our echochrome gamepage for hands-on reports and exclusive gameplay videos.

Overlord didn't shake the very foundations of gaming critics on PC and Xbox 360, but that's not put Codemasters off from bringing the game to PS3 - and it's an extended version heading to Sony's console at that.
You can see how it's shaping up in the new screenshots and video that's uploaded.
Overlord is kind of like Pikmin meets Fable, with you the player assuming the role of Overlord and attempting to conquer a fantasy world. Helping the Overlord out are minions under your control that you can use to do the likes of attack enemies, push obstructions out the way and even boost your health by sacrificing the little blighters on an altar.
The PS3 version carries the subtitle Raising Hell, which was the name of one of the content packs released for Overlord original, so no prizes for guessing this content is included out the box for the game on Sony's console. On top of that it has "never-before-seen exclusive features", according to Codemasters, and online co-op and split-screen head-to-head play.

PlayStation and Sky have announced the Go!View service, the first official PSP video download service in Europe, will go live in the summer.
Go!View will provide programming from the worlds of entertainment, comedy, sport and movies for PSP owners and will let them create their own individual TV schedule on their PSP - to watch whenever and wherever they choose.
Go!View will work on either a subscription or pay-per-view basis and users will need to register on the Go!View website where they can then download content to the PSP via their PC rather than via Sky box hook up.
"Go!View allows PSP users to take advantage of a unique service, adding another dimension to PSP's offering", said Owen Jenkinson, Go!View marketing manager.
"The opportunity to watch top TV and movies on-the-go and on-demand will allow PSP owners to enjoy their favourite entertainment on their own terms, enhancing the PSP's offering as a portable gaming console."
No firm dates, other than a "summer" launch, or pricing details have yet been revealed. We will keep you informed.

With the Beijing Olympic Games just on the horizon, dtp Entertainment AG is hoping to capitalise on all of the excitement around the world’s greatest sporting event (and, we imagine, less on people protesting during torch relays), with the release of Summer Athletics for the Sony PlayStation 2.
Summer Athletics will feature over 25 exhausting disciplines, from sprinting, hurdles and archery to javelin, hammer throw and swimming. Dtp promises “innovative controls”
Four different difficulty levels aim to make Summer Sports accessible to gamers of all abilities, while a create-a-character mode and an “impressive stadium atmosphere” hope to bring the nerve-wrangling feeling of competition into your living room - lycra outfits and dodgy sweat bands optional.
We found it difficult to believe it too, but Summer Athletics will arrive in stores… this summer.

Here are the features in this version:- added GP2X version
- added Google Moon, Google Mars and Google Sky support
- fixed Google Terrain view
- new splash screen for the PSP-Hacks competition with sound
The GP2X is the .gpu file, if you are using it, please give me some feedback too
To enable Google Moon, Google Mars and Google Sky, you will need to find the cheat code
The terrain view is back (Google had changed the version number so I had to upgrade it in the code too).
Also, there is a new splash screen since PSP-Maps is an entry to the PSP-Hacks competition, check here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2008/04/23/...-v10-released/
You can download it on my website: http://royale.zerezo.com/psp/

The release of Grand Theft Auto IV on the 29th of April is a large event, for both the industry and Rockstar Games, even though retail copies of the title shipped to stores earlier this week Rockstar Games has enforced a strict street date of the 29th of April.
This hasn't stopped local retailer DVDCrave from shipping out several copies of the title early, with a few lucky Aussies getting their hands on Grand Theft Auto IV today, five days ahead of schedule.
A photo of an early copy sent in from a reader who wished to remain anonymous.
DVDCrave has addressed the error on their front page, making the following statement on their homepage:
Quote:
Rockstar Games has also confirmed for us that only a few people got their hands on the title, but we think it's a little more than 3 customers, with several of our forum members confirming they've received the title in the mail today.
PALGN contacted DVDCrave for a comment, but they simply re-iterated the message posted on their home page with no further explanation

Just as some game makers might worry that people are buying PS3s just for Blu-ray movies, movie studios may need to worry that that people are buying the consoles just for games, according to one analyst.
“The studios better hope that people are playing movies on their PlayStations," said ABI Research analyst Steve Wilson. "Otherwise there’s very little installed base."
The comments come from an abstract of ABI Research's new study, “Consumer Video Technologies Forecasts," which found that "the state of the Blu-ray player market is not all that encouraging," because of the market's reliance on the Blu-ray-enabled PS3.
"In 2008 about 85 percent of the Blu-ray players in the market will be found in PS3s; the dedicated consumer electronics and PC-based types of Blu-ray players won’t catch up in terms of market share until about 2013," Wilson added.
He also said that about 35 percent of DVD players sold today include upconversion capabilities, which improve the look of standard DVD videos. ABI expects that figure to reach about 60 percent by 2013.
With people already having large libraries of DVDs, and with DVD player technology improving, consumers have less of a reason to upgrade to high-definition video, even if Blu-ray won the war against HD-DVD.
“The studios had hoped to have settled the war,” Wilson added. "But I think they’re going to be disappointed when they don’t see the volumes of players going up they way they would have liked.”

My name is Kumi Yuasa and I am the Associate Producer for the upcoming PSN game echochrome. This is my first post on the blog, and I’m excited that my debut here on the blog is to announce that free PS3 and PSP echochrome demos will be available for download tomorrow on the PlayStation Store on the PS3. The PSP demo version will also be available for download on the PlayStation Store for PC.
Perhaps you have read about echochrome here, here, here or even here. There is a lot of excitement for it - N’Gai Croal of Level Up even wrote, “…as of last E3, the 2008 game we’ve been looking forward to the most is echochrome.”
It’s a fun and addictive puzzle game with really elegant and simple graphics. The concept is inspired by the famous MC Escher artwork, which explores infinity, architecture and impossible constructions. In echochrome, you control the camera and perspective on an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway, allowing your character to walk safely through the design. Puzzled?!? Check out this video and you’ll see what I mean!
There is no single way to get through a level in echochrome. You and your friends will find different ways to clear levels so each time you play will be different.
The demos you can download tomorrow will take you through a brief tutorial and give you the basic idea of how to progress through the puzzles, but I wanted to also tell you what to expect when the final game is available for download in May. In addition to the 56 exclusive levels for each of the PS3 and PSP versions of echochrome (112 unique levels overall), you will be able to create your own puzzles from scratch and share them with your friends, or even the world!
On PS3, you can upload your created levels to the developers through the game’s interface. Once uploaded, your creation will be considered by the developers for a future downloadable content release. In other words, if selected, people around the world could be playing your level!! Additional content will be available from Day 1. Initially, however, these levels will come from Japan or Asia since the game has been out there for a while already. We’re not exactly sure when we’ll start including US players’ levels, but we’re excited and waiting for customized levels from all of you!! You can also share the levels with your friends by sending your creations directly to them over the PlayStation Network. Stumping your friends is REALLY fun!
And for the PSP version, you can share the levels you create with other people in your area via wireless Ad Hoc. Cool, right?!?
Well, there will be more to come on echochrome soon, including some great wallpapers for your PS3 and PSP. But in the meantime, be sure to download the free demos tomorrow and give them a whirl! And let us know what you think!

We can't really see the logic in releasing a Blu-ray player without BD-Live in 2008 -- and neither can Samsung, which just announced its fourth generation BD-P1500 will be BD-Live Ready. The bad news is the May release date announced earlier has slipped to June, and the formerly comfortable $399 MSRP is now a less promising TBA. We're not sure if that "ready" tag means it will be BD-Live enabled out of the gate, however DTS-HD "High resolution" is confirmed on the way in a future firmware update. A slight delay for a significant upgrade in features? We'll allow it.
