Nataku92 has released a new version of his Counterstrike Game for the PSP:
v1.55 is done (about time huh)! I've added 3.xx firmware support (so it should work on slims as well) and redid a lot of the networking code to make online gameplay smoother than before. I've also worked on the server/master server system (CSPSPServer is now v1.0), so the server list should work properly now. Other changes:
__________
|-UPDATES- |
|__________|
3.xx firmware support (haven't tested on slim, but it should work)
Fixed server list (hopefully)
Fixed bug where only part of the server list is downloaded.
Redid a lot of the networking and added client-side prediction to make online play smoother and less buggy
Automatic map downloads when connection to servers
Made the scoreboard only show the top 4 players in each team
Music reimplemented (but causes some lag)
Chat now shows if the person is dead/spectating
Added more sounds (walk, ricochet, pickup, ammo, hit, knife hit, die, ct win, t win, round draw)
New update system

May 26th, 2008, 12:54 Posted By: wraggster
Earlier this month Sony Computer Entertainment Europe chief David Reeves happily announced that over five million units of PS3 hardware have been sold across Europe, allowing the console to surge past Microsoft's Xbox 360 despite the 360's 16-month head start in the region. In an interview with Wired, however, Microsoft Game Studios' Shane Kim seemed to dispute those numbers.
Moreover, when GameDaily BIZ contacted Microsoft, a spokesperson told us that Xbox 360, not PS3, is in the lead: "In Europe, our hardware sales have doubled in the wake of GTA IV, and we remain the number one next-generation console in Europe. We do not disclose our internal sales data, but our figures show we enjoy a comfortable lead against PlayStation 3 in the region. We lead not only in console sales but also in software sales: overall European performance is excellent with a 7.0 game attach rate that beats the competition (3.8 PS3, 3.5 Wii), and we enjoy 39% of the market in terms of life-to-date revenue. Gamers prefer games on Xbox 360 – just look at GTA IV, where the Xbox 360 version outsold the PS3 version by 20%."
So Microsoft continues to claim a "comfortable lead" and yet when we reached out to Sony, the company maintained that the PS3 was winning. Perhaps what it really comes down to is the definition of Europe?
Here's what a Sony rep told us, "The statement was based on the fact that cumulative sales of PS3 in Europe since its launch now exceed the cumulative sales of Xbox 360 in Europe since their launch, despite Xbox 360 having had a 16 month lead on PS3. Europe means the whole of Western Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia. SCEE sources its market data from official sources such as ChartTrack and Gfk, from their retailers and from a variety of additional sources. SCEE has been using the same methodology for the last 10 years or so."
We continue to press both companies and we'll let you know if we ever get a real answer that straightens this mess out.

Today was a pretty cool day, I got my PSP! I've been thinking about it ever since the announcement of the Red GoW bundle, and today I scored big. That's right, Wal-Mart broke the street date!
Not only does Kratos look angry as usual, he's the guardian of the battery. Red wouldn't have been my initial color choice, but it's more crimson than red, so that's good by me. Now to get my grubby hands on some other PSP goodness. Next on the hit list- Loco Roco, Patapon, and Ratchet and Clank.

The application to turn just about any decent PS2 Memcard into a way to play homebrew on any unmodified PS2 takes a new turn with a new release, heres the details:
Free MC Boot is an 'exploit' based off of Datel's Max Memory 64MB card. This allows a user to install it on official 8MB Sony MC's as well as 3rd party cards. (with the exception of those needing a boot disc to be recognized or cloned Chinese cards)
1.2c
As soon as v1.2c is properly installed (see usage.txt for 1.2c upgrade) :
- Uninstall is possible.
- Upgrade without need to format for future version (It preserves saves).
1.2b BETA
- Small bug fixed that prevented NTSC U users from installing.
1.2 BETA
-Process done entirely on the PS2 console rather than patching of MC images done on the computer.
-C/DVD fix added by ffgriever
-Changed boot file name and locations:

News/release from gigaherz
I'm (ab)using the pcsx2.net's news system to let everyone know I (finally) got my lazy ass to make some improvements in my sound plugin.
The result is spu2ghz 1.8, which you can find in the official thread at ngemu forums.
I will keep working on the SPDIF decoding, and hopefully someday I will manage to get working AC3/DTS playback.

Reader Josh was doing a spot of shopping in his local Meijer the other day and came across a couple of price stickers - for the long-awaited PlayStation Network pre-paid card - sitting in the aisle of the gaming section. No cards, just the stickers. The one pictured is for a $20 card, while Josh says there was also a sticker up for a $50 card as well. Sony are still quiet on a precise release date for these, but with this information heading out to retailers they hopefully won't be too far away.

PSPZorba pmed me this on the forum:
Hi wraggster,
I've just relased a new version of PSPlorer.
PSPlorer is a file explorer with some additional functions.
The new functionalities:
- file and directory transfert from PSP to PSP via wifi (using an access point), this new mode works over internet. If you are behind a router you will have to use port forwardinf (the port used by PSPlorer is configurable in the config file PSPlorer.txt which is generated at the first run)
- file extraction from eboots
- multi-languages, you can add your own language. To do this just create a text file with the translations (corresponding line by line with english.txt), modify the config file (psplorer.txt) put the name of your file at the tag [langiageFileName] (don't forget the space between the tag and the file name).
- configuration of colors, wifi port etc by a config file => PSPlorer.txt
The main functionalities:
- file exploration on the memory-stick, flash0, flash1 and umd
- copy, delete, move, rename of files and directories
- dump and securised flash of the NAND. WARNING, even if the flash has been tested on several PSP, the flash of the nandBackup is still a risky thing. I won't accept any responsabilities in case you brick your PSP.
- UMD backup in ISO and CSO format
- USB connexion
- creation of new files and new directories
- file hexedit
- file and directory transfert from PSP to PSP via ADHOC-Game sharing mode OR wifi (via an access point), this new mode works over internet. If you are behind a router you will have to use port forwarding (the port used by PSPlorer is configurable in the config file PSPlorer.txt which is generated at the first run)
- file conversion from iso to cso
- file and directory properties change ( access right, creation/update/access dates)
- file extraction from eboots
To install it just uncompress the archive on your MS
Source are provided under licence GPL3

NervOS the shell for PSP has been updated, heres the details:
NervOS 2.0.1 Changes/Additions (the only thing updated is the installer)
Checks if you have more than 74% of battery, if you don't, it tells you to press X to shut down or [] to continue.
Checks if you have enough free space in your memory stick.
Improved Installation and Uninstallation systems
After any process is run it tells you to press X to shut down instead of continuing.
Does not auto edit vsh.txt anymore (you must do it manually, this was proabably causing the memory stick problem)

hlide a member of DCEmu and a coder at PS2Dev and one of the icons of PSP Development posted this exciting bit of info:
I'm also planning to make a PSP emulator for PC and maybe Pandora.
I rewrote from scratch a R3000 dynarec (c++) for PSP and ARM (zodttd uses my very old recompiler/generator I rewrote for his psx4gp2x/psx4iphone). Zodttd were supposed to work with me to bring yapse4all in life but he seems to be very busy with all the other ports he makes.
It wouldn't be difficult to make a PSP dynarec for PC as well : I just need to write the appropriate generator.
I intend to reuse my new dynarec and to extend it to a PSP dynarec (CPU/FPU/VFPU) to make a PSP emulator. But it must be fast and don't need to deal with low emulation of hardware unlike PSX.
I think HLE is the best strategy to emulate PSP because it would be faster and hardware emulation is beyond question due to the lack of documentation about hardware.
But HLE is probably hell to build since we need to reverse any kernel modules to emulate functions accurately.
Lets hope this comes to reality PSP emu for Pandora now thats a mindblower (although it will most likely be more of a tech demo)

Mauro has announced a new project to bring a Low Level PSP Emulator for the PC, heres the very interesting details:
Hi all!
I'm currently working on a PSP Emulator for PC. After having seen the great progress of noxa and soywiz with their emus I decided I wanted to do it slightly different and try to keep the Emulation as Low Level as possible.
Here in my Dev-Blog you can check out the code via a svn mirror or you can browse it Here.
It's in early stages and I've written the MIPS Core + FPU and I'm currently writing the VFPU instructions.
Now to my main question: This is still far away but, as for the boot-process of the PSP with the decrypting of the IPL through the KIRK SecChip and so on. Is there a way to get the Bootstrap commands so I could later on implement them in the emulator or will I have to do this differently?
Hope you guys can help me out
Greets
Mauro

The [Home] beta is now at v0.8.6.
The new space is called the Media and Events Space and it seems to be a harness for all PLAYSTATION related events.
The update also came with a new survey asking questions such as your thoughts on the new space, it's presentation area, your opinion on the photos and video in the gallery, and what not. They want to know if you would like to see more events similar to PlayStation Day, what kind of content you want to see in the Media & Events Space to make your next visit more compelling, etc.

Im glad Brakken posted this i hadnt a clue what a pup extractor was :P
via tehskeen
NDT has released his PS3 PUP Extractor v1.00. According to NDT, the program extracts "Sony Update PUP file in a created pupname.EXT dir, and creates a logfile with useful information such as calculated SHA1 and Sony hashes." PUP files are the Playstation 3 Update files which update your console to a new version. Being able to extract these files (which are compressed) can better lead to understanding the inner workings of the Sony Playstation 3.

News/release from red squirrel
Hi to all, this is an update to one of my plugins.
Download from HERE
From the README.PDF attached:
Quote:
What's it?
With this plugin you can launch an eboot when you press on one of the XMB icons.
Notes:
-If your Eboot.pbp is in fw 1.50 mode (with kxploit!) you have to insert in the config file the path o the Eboot.pbp contained in % folder (folder with % character in its name!).
-Location Free Player icon can be replaced ONLY in PSP that did not install the 1.50 addon!
If you have the 1.50 addon installed and you want to use the Location Free Player icon you have to insert only the original lftv_plugin.prx in flash0:/vsh/module.
-Skype icon can be replaced ONLY in PSP Slim & Lite.
-VSHMenù function can be replaced ONLY if you have the M33 VSHMenù enabled in Recovery Menù.
Features
v1.2
Added a README.PDF.
Added the following icons to the list of the icons that can be replaced:
-Skype (Slim only)
-VSHMenù (SELECT button)
-Opening (just after the coldboot)
-NETSettings (Network Settings and, unfortunatly, USB Connection)
