Motorcycles in Burnout Paradise? Awesome. Even, er ... awesome-r is today's announcement that Criterion is planning at least four additional DLC content packs for the game. Placeholder images for the packs are already up on the developer's newly revamped site, along with word that the contents of the first pack will be laid bare on Friday, Oct. 31.
The remaining three packs will be revealed each subsequent Friday (Nov. 7, Nov. 14, and Nov. 24). It's almost certain that one of the packs will introduce an entirely new island, which Criterion has been working on for some time. As for the others ... what would you like to see? (If they aren't, in fact, additional islands.)

LittleBigPlanet may have suffered a brief delay due to some ill-considered soundtrack choices, but it looks like the rest of us — that's you, North America — will be getting our hands on the game as early as tomorrow. Many of our dear readers and a few of us at Kotaku Tower have been notified by the staff at GameStop that shipments of the PlayStation 3 game are in. They can be picked up tomorrow, if you're lucky enough.
We'd recommend bothering your local GameStop or the retailer of your choice to see if they have LittleBigPlanet in-hand before making the drive. Thanks to the dozens(!) of tipsters who let us know! Enjoy yourselves.

Now uses the XMB Wave as the background.
Warning:
This can brick your PSP if improperly installed or due to bugs as it is a BETA.
Installation:
Copy the following files to the flash0:/ root directory.
lockdown.argb
intraFont.prx
iop.prx
vlf.prx
loader.prx
Rename flash0:/vsh/module/vshmain.prx to vshmain_real.prx
Copy the included vshmain.prx to flash0:/vsh/module/
Reboot the PSP and verify that it is working. If everything is fine, then proceed to do the same for recovery.prx if you want to protect the recovery menu as well.
Rename flash0:/vsh/module/recovery.prx to recovery_real.prx
Copy the included recovery.prx to flash0:/vsh/module/
Enhanced Security (Optional):
Since 5.00M33-2, you can disable the loading of plugins in the Recovery menu, under Advanced Configuration. If you set XMB Plugins to Disabled then it is impossible to bypass Lockdown using plugins.
If you create a blank file in flash0: called loadplugins.txt then Lockdown will load the XMB plugins after the correct password is entered, even if XMB Plugins is Disabled.
There is a small problem with having Lockdown load the plugins though. Some plugins which hook functions by waiting for the target firmware module to start may not work, because the module would have already been started before Lockdown loads the plugin. Such plugins have to be manually installed in the pspbt*nf.bin files before the modules they try to hook are loaded.
If you are not using the Disable XMB Plugins options, then there is no problem.
Note:
To change the color of the wave you can hex edit address 0x1D8 and change the value corresponding to each month (in hexadecimal).
Presently the theme file is called lockdown.argb and is not compatible with Lockdown v3.0 themes as the current version can only load ARGB uncompressed BMPs. The graphics used are included to help make custom themes.

This increases the vertical scrolling speed of Music player by around 50%. You can scroll 300 songs in 10 seconds using this. This is the maximum possible speed that can be achieved without directly hacking vshmain.prx.
It works in the Photos menu as well if you open the Music player first.
Install it under SEPLUGINS in VSH.TXT

We first caught wind of a slightly revamped PSP months ago, and the long-awaited handheld -- complete with a new, fancier and in some cases more dreadful display -- finally hit US shelves this month. For those that picked one of these up and have spent some quality time digging into the latest firmware, how are you liking things? Particularly for those that upgraded, are you pleased with the new build? Are you being plagued with those mysterious screen problems features? PSP Coder Dark_AleX has just released an update for 5.00 m33.
Mainly noticeable in iso's, since firmware 3.80 loading speeds have decreased.
This update speeds up memory stick access by flashing a modified 3.71 ms patch.
Here's what Dark_AleX had to say:
Just a little update to the fatmsmod patch, it stopped working in 5.00 due to a sony file changing its name.
Instructions: decrypt 3.71 using psardumper (square option).
Copy the file fatmsmod.prx in the root of memory stick.
Copy FATMS371 to /PSP/GAME or /PSP/GAME5XX. Run the program and done.

Grand Theft Auto IV is old news for us. We’re done with the game looking forward to zombie wars. Japan is one of the few places in the world that doesn’t have the game yet. Capcom is going to publish it next week and it’s not getting a typical meet the creators launch in Akihabara. That’s not GTA hip. Grand Theft Auto IV’s release party will take place in Club Harlem in the trendy Shibuya district of Tokyo on October 29. Party goers will be able to hear music from the game and drink in the presence of special guest Mister Cee. Mister Cee? Isn’t he a DJ from Hot 97 in New York? They flew him halfway around the world for this?
This isn’t the only Grand Theft Auto IV promotion going on next week. Capcom and Microsoft are linking up to give away briefcases of swag that includes a GTA IV dart board, pool stick, and a “Statute of Happiness”. The Grand Theft Auto games have typically sold decently in Japan, but never got a launch this big.

Someone give Rockstar a trophy ... for finally bringing PlayStation Trophies to the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. According to the latest GTA mailing list email, the update will be available for download on Monday, Oct. 27.
Rockstar has promised 51 Trophies in total, including: "One Man Army" (survive a six-star wanted level for five minutes); "Dare Devil" (execute all of the city's unique stunt jumps); "Chain Reaction" (blow up 10 cars in under 10 seconds); and "Liberty City Minute" (complete the game in less than 30 hours).
The official GTA IV site will be updated Monday to include the full list of Trophies ... which, given the ones announced today, will likely be identical to the list of Achievements available in the Xbox 360 version.
