At this point, we can probably all safely believe that developers are already working on games for the next generation of Sony handhelds, much like we can be pretty confident that a PlayStation mobile phone device is real. The Mortal Kombat team has already claimed to have a PSP2 development system, and EA senior vice president Patrick Soderlund recently told CVG that EA has had contact with the as-yet unannounced device as well.
"Well, obviously as a developer we have had that" -- referring to "exposure" with the PSP2 -- "but I'm not allowed to talk about it." He refused to offer anything more specific, saying that "We can't talk about it because of our relationship with Sony obviously, which is ... That's just the way it is." Not that we're complaining, but we're pretty sure Sony wouldn't want Soderlund blithely acknowledging the existence of something he's not supposed to talk about.

It's got to the point where we don't even believe reports that come directly from Kazunori Yamauchi anymore. But this is no joke. Gran Turismo 5 development is complete.
Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed during an interview at Las Vegas car show SEMA today that discs are roll out of the production like literally right now.
"The discs are being stamped as we speak," Yamauchi told Jalopnik when asked for an update on the game's endlessly delayed release.
He didn't actually say when the game would be out - that's an issue even the Gods themselves must still be pondering over. But with the discs in production at least we know Yamauchi and team has stopped faffing about and put their pens down.
GT5 was, until recently, due out today, we remind you as we stare bitterly at our cold, recently unused PS3 (thanks mostly to Halo Reach).
They'd better get those discs to shops before Christmas.

Zelda - Return of the Hylian is now available for the PSP. The game is an SDL port of the french Windows/Mac/Linux game. The game is considered a sequel to the Zelda - A Link to the Past game. If the game proves to be popular on the PSP I will port the 2 follows ups to the game, which are even better (and longer). The link to the game is here:Download Game
You can list any compatibility issues you have with the PSP port either here or the sourceforge site
The original version for PC's is here Zelda ROTH and is the best place to go if you want walkthroughs or any other game specific info.
FYI: The game is at a set resolution of 320x240, and is not scaled to the size of the PSP screens height due to the slow performance of the SDL libraries scaling routine. I might alter the SDL library for hardware scaling if there is enough demand.

"It Only Does Everything," says the PS3's ad campaign. But how many users actually know how to take advantage of all of the system's features out of the box? With PS3 increasingly positioning itself as a be-all entertainment device, Sony is forced to confront the XMB's clutter of icons, which may be befuddling mainstream consumers.
PSN director Susan Panico told us that Sony is currently "creating educational videos that will be a great welcome kit for people that are coming to the PS3 and the PlayStation Network," which aim to "really walk them through all the advantages you get from the PlayStation Network," including the store. The videos "will answer questions like, 'How do I have Netflix movies stream on my PS3?' And it will certainly talk about original content available," Panico noted, referring to PSN productions like The Tester and Pulse. "That's something that's really important to us -- to make sure people understand from the get-go how to find all this great content."
While many of the details are still being ironed out, the how-to videos will appear both on the web and on the XMB. "Primarily, it's going to be content that you find very easily on PlayStation.com, as well as on the console itself," Panico said, though "we haven't decided where it's going to live on the XMB." Presumably, it'll be in a prime position, lest Sony find itself posting a "How to find the how-to videos" video.

Fussy film-streaming service MUBI will be available on PlayStation 3 this week, Sony has announced.
When? Wednesday in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal must wait until "next week", the European PlayStation blog notes.
MUBI takes the form of an application on PS3. It's free to download and offers seven-day film rentals for £2.99/€3.59, or an unlimited monthly pass for £10/€12.99.
There will be free films offered occasionally, too.
MUBI exists already on PC. It's vision is to entice film buffs with work by arty-brains Roman Polanski, David Lynch, Jean-Luc Goddard, Quentin Tarantino, Coen Brothers et al. and then have them discuss their experiences after viewing on a giant social network.

Sony has admitted to having a "new product" in development that's linked to Sony Ericsson and Sony Computer Entertainment and the cellphone gaming market.
Could this be the PlayStation Phone that was pictured, denied and then un-denied-but-ignored last week?
"We are trying to figure out what we can do as Sony in this [cellphone] market," stated "Sony execs" during a recent financial call transcribed by Engadget. "There is Sony Ericsson and there is [Sony Computer Entertainment].
"[SCE] moved from Aoyama, the design and headquarters had to come to Sony City. They are closer to the planning and engineering group of Sony, and I think we can better incorporate all of these capabilities. When the timing is right we can probably announce the new product that we have."
Engadget noted that the transcription came from a translator's interpretation of what "Sony execs" said. The exec in question is likely to be chief financial officer Masaru Kato. Seeking Alpha, a professional transcription service, provided an alternative record of the call.
"Mobile gaming is a very important business area for us," said Sony's chief financial officer Masaru Kato. "We started out with the PSP that was our first mobile gaming console, but since then the market as you know has expanded into bigger arenas; gaming on mobile phones, gaming on tablets and on certain mobiles devices.
"The PSP being a proprietary platform was more concentrated I'd say on the core gaming segment than the light game, but now we are addressing that market as well. I can not be specific as to how we will introduce new product to address these markets, but one thing I can say is that we have those markets addressed and we will come out with products and services to capture the broader gaming market."
Despite the statement discrepancies, both accounts suggest that a new mobile gaming device focused on "light games" may be in development at Sony.
What's more, there may also be a tablet under construction behind Howard Stringer's closed doors.
Engadget's transcription added: "As for the tablet ... obviously as a mobile strategy, this occupies a very important position. On one hand there is PC, and on the other hand there is joint venture with Ericsson on smartphone and for the games devices. And tablets fall somewhere in between.
"It is true Apple has led the market, but when we are to enter the market we would like to put a Sony character onto a new product - and that is the effort we are making right now. Therefore I think you can hope for a very good product to come out."

It’s clearly not yet ready to talk openly about either the PlayStation Phone or the PSP 2, but Sony has at least gone as far as to confess that it is developing a smartphone product in correlation with Sony Ericsson.
“As for the new PSP product, as mentioned, I know that you are not asking me to tell you when we will be coming out with a new product, but there is a gaming market based on cellphones, and there are many changes that are being seen [with] Nintendo, as well as ourselves, in the field of the product for the gamers,” company execs stated in an earnings call, as reported by Engadget.
“And there are smartphones and others or even cellphones gaming markets are very popular here in Japan. So the market itself is expanding. It's not that we are not looking into those markets as well. We will look into those markets in trying to develop strategy for the future. Of course, we can't talk about specific products.
“So we are trying to figure out what we can do as Sony in this market. There is Sony Ericsson and there is SCE. They moved from Aoyama, the design and headquarters had to come to Sony City. [So] they are closer to the planning and engineering group of Sony, and I think we can better incorporate all of these capabilities better. When the timing is right we can probably announce the new product that we have.”
That’s not where it ends, however. Sony went on to admit that it also has a tablet computer in production.
“As for tablet – we will not be able to tell you when and what kind of product. But obviously as a mobile strategy, this occupies a very important position. On one hand there is PC, and on the other hand there is [the] joint venture with Ericsson on smartphone and for the games devices.
“And tablets, some fall somewhere in between, and it is true Apple has led the market, but when we are to enter the market, we would like to put a Sony character onto a new product, and that is the effort we are making right now. Therefore I think you can hope for a very good product to come out.”

PlayStation maker Sony has finally offered comment on mounting rumour that it's planning to enter the smartphone market.
In an earnings call following its most recent financials, Sony CFO Masaru Kato and senior general manager of Investor Relations Division Gen Tsuchikawa dealt with the inevitable question about the apparent PSP phone.
"There is a gaming market based on cellphones, and there are many changes that are being seen [with] Nintendo, as well as ourselves, in the field of the product for the gamers. And there are smartphones and others or even cellphones gaming markets are very popular here in japan. So the market itself is very... expanding.
"We will look into those markets in trying to develop strategy for the future. Of course, we can't talk about specific products, but smartphones and tablets... it is difficult to tell you how we can put the games on them, but they are not going to be planned in different parts of our company."
The execs were referring to Sony's restructuring back in April, claiming that its Sony Ericsson phone division was no longer quite as disparate from the company's gaming wing.
"I think we can better incorporate all of these capabilities better... so when the timing is right we can probably announce... the new product that we have."
The company also discussed plans for a tablet device to rival the iPad. "Obviously as a mobile strategy, this occupies a very important position. On one hand there is PC, and on the other hand there is joint venture with Ericsson on smartphone and for the games devices.
"Tablets... fall somewhere in between, and it is true Apple has led the market, but when we are to enter the market, we would like to put a Sony character onto ... a new product, and that is the effort we are making right now. Therefore I think you can hope for a very good product to come out."
