PlayStation 3 users will get to experience a buffed-up version of Sniper: Ghost Warrior early next year, developer City Interactive has confirmed.
The FPS will be getting updated visuals and plenty of new content. Expect new singleplayer missions, bonus multiplayer maps, new multiplayer modes and new weapons.
"Sniper: Ghost Warrior was our most ambitious project to date and although it was extremely well-received by players, we wanted to ensure that the PS3TM version took the franchise to a higher level," CEO Marek Tyminski explained.
"With exclusive content and modes, we are eager to introduce the best sniper game on the market to PS3 owners sometime in Q1 next year."
It'll need all the extra bells and whistles it can get. The original Xbox 360 version was about as much fun as a vinegar eye bath.
City Interactive has not confirmed whether it intends to offer the new content to existing PC and Xbox 360 users.

Recently, we caught up with Peter Dille, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, to discuss the subjects of delayed games, the upcoming launch of the PlayStation Move, the PSP, and he feels about the position of the two platforms, from the standpoint of third-party game support and success.
The PSP has a strong line-up of Japanese series including Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, and Persona. While the handheld is thriving over there, in America the PSP seems to be struggling even though those games are coming over here. What do you think is the missing element, aside from trains.
[Earlier in an unrecorded chat, Dille mentioned how the success of PSP in Japan is in part due to people commuting via trains and playing the system during the ride.]
You know, we have sold 66 million worldwide. There is a big install base of PSP owners here. I think one of the things that have limited the business that I didn’t talk about in the room earlier, but which is a reality is piracy. That has limited a publisher’s ability to make money on the platform because it is a hacked platform. There is a lot of piracy, I’m sure you’re familiar with some of what’s going on. If you aren’t, you can find sites selling pirated games.
That’s something we’ve been trying to combat for awhile, but that’s not the only reason. It’s now in its sixth year and it’s typical for these devices to migrate down in age, so that’s where our focus is.
Now, the other thing that we’re doing is taking content, perhaps, from other markets or even other platforms. You know taking a PsOne product and bringing it over to the PSP platform. One of the cool things about the [PlayStation] Network is you might have an opportunity to make a game for your reader or core gamers that doesn’t have to go through mass market distribution.
A game that you could put on the PlayStation Network can find its audience because there is unlimited shelf space. Even if retail is saying this won’t do the number of turns I need, the audience isn’t big enough at the big box retailer it still might be something they can sell online on the PlayStation Store. We’re trying to encourage publishers to make sure they exhaust their internal catalogs and content and keep that on the platform as well.

November 5th, 2010, 00:54 Posted By: wraggster
Atlus PR and sales bard, Aram Jabbari, describes The Cursed Crusade as "a story of salvation and survival" set during the often unpleasant Middle Ages. "The game's main characters are not heroes; they're just men, susceptible to temptation, easily made to feel doubt and despair," Jabbari says, plucking a string (but in like, a sinister way). "The raw, gritty accuracy of many of the game's historical locations is sharply contrasted by Denz and Esteban's supernatural struggle to save their souls. Their affliction, the Templar's Curse, threatens to accelerate their descent into hell, burning their humanity away as it engulfs the space around them in demonic flame."
Apparent non-comedy troupe Denz and Esteban star in The Cursed Crusade, a new third-person action-adventure game coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It looks to be heavy on the melee combat, with Atlus and French developer Kylotonn (see: Speedball 2) promising a wide variety of weapons and ways to inflict critical flesh wounds. The curse that threatens to overwhelm Denz and Esteban also seems to grant them supernatural strengths -- including the anachronistic ability to fight cooperatively over the internet. According to Atlus, Esteban will be an AI-controlled character in the single-player mode.
Join Denz and Esteban on their violent tour of Medieval Europe in Summer 2011. Bring your demonic flame-resistant dalmatica.

Like a parenting bird, Atari is regurgitating nutritious PSone games for PS3 and PSP.
This brave strategy began with yesterday's arrival of Centipede on the PlayStation Store. It costs £4.
Still to come: Pong and Missile Command, among other unnamed retro morsels. But we're not sure which is planned for next Wednesday's weekly PlayStation Store update.
Centipede is a shoot-'em-up, and a fast one at that. Blast insects into oblivion before they can eat you, and then face off against the queen centipede herself. Legs to die for.
Missile Command involves zapping waves of aliens with Earth's finest ballistics before the invaders eat mankind or whatever they're planning to do.
And Pong is Pong - Atari reckons this is "the most addictive head-to-head competition you'll ever play".
Remember that these are the PSone adaptations of these classic arcade licenses - not the originals themselves.

via Eurogamer
Gran Turismo 5 has been plagued by delays, and whether the game will launch this year still remains to be seen. But that hasn't stopped creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealing that work on the next instalment, Gran Turismo 6, has already begun.
"Yeah," Yamuchi told Autoweek - development is underway.
"It's not something that we can talk that lightly on," he added. "It took 2000 days to get all the ideas that went into GT5.
"It's just too early to be talking about GT6" Yes, and it was even earlier in August when he last let slip details about Gran Turismo 6.
But 2000 days! That's five-and-a-half years. Not to mention the probable Concept and Gran Turismo 6 Prologue releases we'd have to endure first.
What about Gran Turismo 5, anyway? Kazunori Yamauchi offered a flimsy "I think so" on the likelihood of playing it before Christmas. An announcement should arrive "sometime soon".
Gran Turismo 5 has been a long time coming. Once upon a time, Kazunori Yamauchi promoted a summer 2008 Japan launch, and shortly before we got there Sony America told the world GT5 was "about a year away". Sony Europe said the racing game would be out for Christmas 2009.
Fast-forward to 2009. In June, Yamauchi said Gran Turismo 5 was "at a point [where] we can release it any time we want", and a few months later he confirmed a March 2010 release date for Japan. A European launch, he added, European launch would likely be in the same timeframe. Yamauchi added to the smiles by saying, in October 2009, that Gran Turismo 5 was "basically complete".
For a while, everything was on track: a GT5 Time Trial demo came out in December 2009 and had been downloaded 1 million times by January 2010. But celebrations were short-lived, as Sony soon announced that Gran Turismo 5 had been delayed in Japan - and only Japan, Europe was reassured (presumably because Europe never had a date). A few weeks later, Europe was given an autumn 2010 release date for GT5.
That date became "November" in June 2010, and then "3rd November" in August. Cue plenty of babble about 3D stereoscopic vision and we arrive in October 2010 and the most recent Gran Turismo 5 delay.
Right now, all Sony will say about a new date is that the game is coming out "before Christmas".
Earlier this week, industry sources told Eurogamer there was "not much hope" for Gran Turismo 5 in 2010. Yamauchi popped up a day later claiming discs were being stamped "as we speak". December, remember, is typically a barren month for releases past the first week.
Mind you, it strikes us as strange that Yamauchi would be so talkative if his game had been pushed back to 2011.
And why has Gran Turismo 5 taken so long? Because of Motor Toon Grand Prix on PSone, that's why. Autoweek heard how Yamauchi and his team had been crunching hard trying to "adjust it so it would be perfect". Sony thought the game was fit for release, though, and twisted Yamauchi's arm. It's a decision he's regretted for his entire career.
"At the time, I probably wasn't thinking very clearly, being as exhausted as I was, and I talked myself into thinking this was good enough and it went to release," he recalled. "But all the things I thought were not enough yet, the users said the exact same thing when the game came out.
"That was something I regretted very much when that happened because I knew it was coming. And that happened at the beginning of my career, and it was something I vowed would never happen again."

The official Bluetooth headset for the PS3 has been around for a few years, still rocking the same $49.99 price point, still wearing the same "Wow, look at me, I'm a Bluetooth headset" design while others have gotten fancier, artsier and, well, better. Now Sony looks to finally be making an update, whittling the sides down make the new model look a bit more modern -- while not actually going too far. The price is said to stay the same and overall the design looks much the same too, just pointier and featuring a daintier clip that should be somewhat less taxing on your ear as you spend hour after hour screaming at your SVER teammates who insist on staying back and sniping while you throw yourself at the Valor lines. If only they could see your cool new headset, maybe then they'd listen.

Good news for Darksiders fans: publisher THQ has confirmed a sequel is in development. Bad news for Darksiders fans: it wont be out until 2012 at the earliest.
Speaking at an investor call, CEO Brain Farrell announced, "For fiscal 2013 we plan to release a sequel to our critically acclaimed Darksiders game and will be unveiling more details about Darksiders 2 in the future."
For those unfamiliar with the concept of a fiscal year, that means you'll be playing it at some point between 1st April 2012 and 31st March 2013.
Given THQ's recent penchant for delaying games, we wouldn't scribble down 2013 in permanent ink either.
The first Darksiders game launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in January. Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell gave it a sturdy 8/10.
Darksiders 2 joins Devil's Third and the Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium MMO on THQ's slate for FY2013.

Problems you have had on PS3 exporting Rock Band 2 songs to Rock Band 3 have been "solved", Harmonix has told Eurogamer.
"There were intermittent issues this week with code redemption for Rock Band 2 export," a spokesperson for the developer said. "Those issues have now all been resolved.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience."
Anyone still having trouble should go to the Rock Band website for assistance.
Incidentally, The Doors Greatest Hits album should now also work properly with the PS3 version of Rock Band 3. Previously this could be bought but not downloaded. (Thanks, Klaus.)
Rock Band 3 was released last Friday to rapturous applause on Eurogamer, where we awarded the game 10/10.
Unfortunately public enthusiasm was less, much less - Rock Band 3 sold just 7386 copies during its opening UK weekend.

Sony's HD remasters of acclaimed PS2 games God of War I and God of War II are on the PlayStation Store right now.
They're not cheap: they cost £14 a pop, according to the European PlayStation blog. Even bundled together they cost £24. Still, both were excellent on PS2, and with 720p graphics they may compare favourably to many of even today's best third-person action games.
Complementing their arrival is God of War: Ghost of Sparta turning up on PSP.
Also of note: Castle Crashers, the most successful game on Xbox Live Arcade. It's PS3 arrival comes with a free trial, too. Eurogamer's dusty Castle Crashers XBLA review can fill in the blanks.
Today's demo of note is Rock Band 3, although PlayStation Plus members have the option of sampling Vanquish's Challenge Mode if they wish.
Desirable add-on content includes the free FIFA 11 Ultimate Team update, God of War III skins and new Hot Zone maps for Medal of Honor.
Don't forget that new video streaming service MUBI arrives for PlayStation 3 today. This offers high-brow films for rental either individually or as part of a monthly subscription.

Notoriously delayed PlayStation 3 driving sim Gran Turismo 5 appears to finally be complete.
Its discs "are being stamped as we speak", project lead Kazunori Yamauchi told Jalopnik.
Neither Polyphony Digital or Sony have given a final release date for the game, however. It was most recently due for release this week, but was pushed back until later "this holiday season" three weeks ago.
Gran Turismo 5 has been in development for six years, and was originally revealed at E3 2006. Last year, Polyphony claimed the budget had hit $60 million.

Crytek UK, the developer that rose from the ashes of the collapsed Free Radical Design, hopes that when gamers look back on PlayStation 3 exclusive Haze they'll remember it more fondly than they did at launch.
The ill-fated Haze was met with a 4/10 review score from Eurogamer upon its 2008 release.
It was the TimeSplitters creator's last game.
"We were surprised by how poorly it was received," admitted managing director Karl Hilton in an interview with Eurogamer conducted at the GameCity festival in Nottingham last week.
"We felt it had a lot of good elements in, which just didn't seem to get picked up at all. But it's a fickle industry and things move quickly. If you get a few things wrong and people pick up on it... And Haze wasn't a perfect product. Clearly it wasn't. But it wasn't as bad as some of the reviews and feedback made out."
Haze's problems are well documented.
"You really have to wonder how it all ended up this dreadful, especially after all the time and resource Ubisoft and Free Radical expended telling people the opposite," said Kristan Reed for Eurogamer.
"The combat's weak, the storyline's excruciating, it's technically deficient - Haze really is this year's most significant gaming disappointment."
Looking back, Hilton agreed that perhaps expectations were fuelled by the development team's heritage with classics GoldenEye and TimeSplitters.
"It's interesting. Obviously time will tell. Second Sight was another game we did that got pretty average reviews, but these days seems to be remembered very fondly. At the time when we launched that we were disappointed it didn't do better than it did because we felt it had a lot of good elements in it."
But will, once the dust has settled on this generation, Haze be remembered fondly?
"I don't think anyone will claim it was an unrecognised classic, but maybe they'll treat it a little more gently than it got treated when it was released. That would be nice."

Metal Gear Solid's Raiden will appear as a playable skin in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
Joystiq sources say the Raiden "outfit" is unlocked by completing all tasks in the Animus' new "virtual training" mode.
You might remember being able to unlock Altair's robes from Assassin's Creed in Metal Gear Solid 4. You had to complete the game with 50+ knife kills, 50+ CQC grabs and trip less than 25 alerts.
Ubisoft announced free PS3-exclusive DLC for AC: Brotherhood yesterday.
The game's out on November 19 in the UK.

Looking for a pinch of adorable, a taste of augmented reality and a shiny new peripheral for your PSP? Look no further, mate. Sony's EyePet title is now shipping in the US of A, and a required camera will come bundled in with each UMD. Amazon and friends have it listed for $39.99, and if you're hoping to avoid the otherwise unavoidable "sold out forever" sign during the final week of December, we'd recommend getting that order in now. Oh, and PSPgo owners need not apply -- this one's too cute for NAND.

Industry sources have expressed concern to Eurogamer that high-profile racing game Gran Turismo 5 will miss Sony's promised "before Christmas" release date and instead come out some time next year.
One source told us that current schedules list the Polyphony Digital game as "TBC", and that there is "not too much hope" that it will hit shop shelves this year.
Gran Turismo 5, perhaps the most anticipated PS3 game ever, was scheduled for release today.
Last month Sony announced it had been delayed to "before Christmas", claiming "creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating a racing experience of the highest quality".
At the time Sony tweeted to say a new date would be confirmed "before the end of the month". That, obviously, did not happen.
Current UK retailer listings for the game offer a mixed message.
GAME says it'll be released in 2011, and it's without a release window at all on both Amazon and Play.
However, Zavvi and Shopto both say it'll be released on 3rd December.
While retailer release dates are often placeholder, they offer food for thought.
Despite the concern, Eurogamer has been told that Sony is sticking to its official December 2010 statement without providing a firm date.

Pac-Man has a pack of ghostbusting bombs in Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. Toss one of these to send all of the ghosts back to the middle of the maze.
Namco Bandai also gave Pac-Man a time-bending power. When a ghost gets to close an automatic slowdown effect activates giving players a chance to steer Pac-Man in a different direction.
pac-Man Championship Edition DX introduces a new kind of sleeping ghost. These enemies wake up and chase Pac-Man when he passes through them. Run through more ghosts and you’ll eventually have a ghost conga line, like the first screenshot. Pac-Man can turn the tables by chomping down on a power pellet and turning around, prepared to eat the entire ghost train.
Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is coming to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

A retail listing for a PSP port of Gust’s Atelier Violet: Alchemist of Gramnad 2 has popped up at two online Japanese retailer lists.
Atelier Violet on PSP will be seeing a few upgrades and tweaks. Amongst the added features mentioned are three all new characters: Lapis, Nanami Shuret, and Sphere. Gust made new events and endings that involve the extra characters. Additionally, the game will receive a major UI overhaul to better suit the PSP screen.
Earlier this year, Gust announced a PSP port of the game’s prequel, Atelier Judie: Alchemist of Gramnad.
