aking to the US PlayStation blog, Sony director of hardware marketing John Koller revealed the PSP Go "3-Game Digital Pack" -- a $150 PSP Go bundle that includes three full (downloadable) games being sold at "retailers nationwide." In addition to a $50 savings from the recently lowered PSP Go asking price, it packs in LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3, and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. Interested parties should head to their nearest brick-and-mortar ASAP, as the bundle is only available in "limited quantities," and "at most retailers" the deals are "one day events and are while supplies last."
If digital games aren't your style, the PS blog also revealed Sam's Club's 160GB PS3 Slim bundle -- the console itself, a copy of ModNation Racers, an extra black Dualshock 3, a Blu-ray remote control, and a copy of (the adorable) How to Train Your Dragon for $399.

Games created for the new 3D displays will allow developers to reach more consumers.
That's according to SCEE's Mick Hocking, who has in his Develop in Liverpool keynote argued the case for the relevance and importance of 3D game development to all modern studios.
"We can make more games more accesible with 3D," insisted Hocking, speaking in a conference session titled 'Seeing is Believing: 3D a New Creative Medium for Games'.
"Doing things like the way we've used Move combined with 3D in Tumble makes a game more natural and more accesible, which will be great for welcoming more people to your games."
Hocking also used his keynote to counter the common argument that 3D in games is little more than a gimmick that offers little gameplay benefits. "With 3D, unlike other mediums film and TV, we can interact and innovate in far more ways," he said, highlighting a number of improvements 3D brings to gameplay, such as giving players more accuracy of control and timing, and a greater sense of space, height and distance.
"3D is not just about adding depth to a game; its a new creative medium with which game developers can work".
Touching on the challenges of developing for 3D, Hocking did warn that pre-rendered cutscenes realised in 3D will require 50 per cent extra storage pace.
He also said studios must not only retrain developers in the finer points of 3D, but also educate their creative services, QA and marketing staff to better understand what makes good 3D.
Concluding, Hocking said: "I really would urge you to start converting your game into 3D now. We're here to help you and can help with training."
In a session dominated by triple-A titles displayed in 3D, he also predicted that in just a few years 'all games' will be in 3D.

November 26th, 2010, 00:19 Posted By: wraggster
An update for gargantuan simulation racer Gran Turismo 5 will be released on Saturday 27th November, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed to Eurogamer in a new interview.
"We received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions," Yamauchi said.
"It's like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak."
According to Yamauchi, the update will "refine the usability of the game to make it a better experience.
"I think it's going to be hard to find an end to that process," he admitted.
This morning it emerged that Sony has had to limit some areas of Gran Turismo 5 while it works out a way to ease the online congestion currently crippling the game.
The high demand coupled with GT5's constant communication with the internet is causing all sorts of problems that spill over even into single-player races.
Sony's temporary solution? Disable your PS3 internet connection.
"Yesterday the online service was kind of in a critical state," Yamauchi said.
"The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result.
"The design of the GT game really integrates the online and offline parts. So the problems online actually affected the offline play as well. Right now we've changed the number of simultaneous connections that are possible to one million, doubling the number, and we're trying to gauge what will happen, but we don't know at this point in time."
Yamauchi also responded to criticism of the online feature set, revealing to Eurogamer, "Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution."
The Polyphony Digital boss pledged that his team would be "upgrading every week, every month" to improve the game, which took five years to develop.
Oli reviewed Gran Turismo 5 for Eurogamer, awarding it 9/10.

November 26th, 2010, 00:16 Posted By: wraggster
Sony will launch the heavily rumoured PlayStation Phone in February 2011, a new report claims.
It will be officially unveiled on 9th December, PocketGamer reckons (thanks, VG247).
This latest rumour was sparked by French blog Nowereelse.fr, which has received an image of what looks like a press invitation to a Sony event.
It shows the four famous PlayStation symbols next to an image of a phone.
The invite reads: "The most awaited event of the past 10 years." Hasn't Sony heard of the X-Factor final?
According to website MobileCrunch, the phone will be formerly launched next February.
Apparently the phone's screen is "on par" with the iPhone's Retina display. Sony's Bravia technology is said to have "trickled" in here, with Sony Ericsson considering leveraging the Bravia brand when highlighting the display.
Games will be priced at mobile game rates, not PSP rates. Sony Ericsson currently has the off-contract price somewhere around $500 (£318 approx), with that purchase including five free games.
The PlayStation Phone, along with the PSP2, is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
On Monday Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg said, "There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere.
"Sony has an extremely strong offering in the gaming market, and that's very interesting. Sony is of course a very strong brand, and why shouldn't we use that? Gaming, including content, is a very interesting proposition."
According to the Wall Street Journal, the PlayStation Phone will carry the Sony Ericsson Xperia brand, run Google Android and offer games through an application.
Nordberg plans a big splash at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona this February 2011 – could that tie in with the rumoured launch?
The PlayStation Phone has long been speculated. It appeared to be on the verge of confirmation last month when a series of target images were leaked and numerous reports backed them up.

November 26th, 2010, 00:15 Posted By: wraggster
Sony has had to limit some areas of Gran Turismo 5 while it works out a way to ease the online congestion currently crippling the game.
Sony is sorry, but the high demand coupled with GT5's constant communication with the internet is causing all sorts of problems that spill over even into single-player races.
Sony's temporary solution? Disable your PS3 internet connection.
"Because GT5 performs online access not only when participating in online races and using community features, but also when starting the game and during the various screen displays in GT Mode, unfortunately this online congestion is also affecting standard gameplay," wrote Sony on the GT5 in-game news feed.
"Currently we are simultaneously working on several different solutions to improve the network status and alleviate the network congestion as soon as possible. We are expecting to be able to provide a proper online service again soon.
"We sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience."
Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, which has first-hand experience of these issues, recalls a "longer than comfortable lag" when navigating the Gran Turismo 5 menus and says accessing the GT5 news feed is a "time-consuming exercise".
Digital Foundry said issues are also prevalent with Gran Turismo 5's matchmaking, which can pit Minis up against Bugatti Veyrons - the world's fastest road car. And sometimes even connecting to lobbies doesn't work.
The full message from Sony reads:
Notice Regarding the Status of the Online Service
Currently the online service of Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) is experiencing some extreme online traffic congestion.
Because GT5 performs online access not only when participating in online races and using community features, but also when starting the game and during the various screen displays in GT Mode, unfortunately this online congestion is also affecting standard gameplay.
If you are experiencing the following symptoms, we recommend that you temporarily play GT5 without connecting the PlayStation 3 (PS3) to the network.
(A) If you are finding it takes several minutes before being able to perform any actions in the following screens:
Before the start of the opening movie, immediately after launching the game.
At the top screen after the game has started.
In various screens within GT Mode.
(B) Or, when it takes several minutes or more to gain a result when the following operations are performed:
When entering the open lobby, if it takes several minutes or more before the room list is acquired and displayed.
When clicking on an ID in the participant list of a room, if it takes several minutes or more before the menu appears.
When writing on the message boards within Community, if it is taking several minutes or more for your posts to appear.
*Also, some of the following features have been limited intentionally as a measure to temporarily alleviate some of the network traffic. Due to these limitations, you will find that:
The viewing and update of the [Log] in the Community section of GT Mode has been temporarily disabled.
Changes to the Profile may not update in some cases.
Changes to the Friend List may not update in some cases.
Currently we are simultaneously working on several different solutions to improve the network status and alleviate the network congestion as soon as possible. We are expecting to be able to provide a proper online service again soon.
We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.
Reference Information
Temporary measures you can take for playing Offline.
The following are procedures for preventing the PS3 from accesssing the network when playing GT5.
Please note the steps introduced here are only temporary procedures you can take until the network conditions are improved.
If GT5 is currently running, please quit the game.
Go to [Settings] -> [Network Connections] -> [Internet Connection] and swtich the selection to [Disabled]
Start GT5.

1) To start the FTP server, just run the PS3-FTP.self via ps3load/wiiload or install the
PS3-FTP.pkg and run it directly from the XMB on your PS3.
2) Configure your FTP Client to use passive mode and only one FTP connection at a time.
3) Connect to your PS3's IP on port 21 with an FTP client of your choice. If you don't
know the IP address of your PS3, go to Settings -> Network Settings in the XMB, it is
listed there along with other network settings.
PS3-FTP has been tested and should be compatible with the following clients:
* Filezilla
* FlashFXP
* CuteFTP
* WinSCP
* Windows Explorer
* BSD/UNIX FTP shell client
4) To stop the server once it is running, you have to be connected to your PS3 with your
FTP client. Press and hold down the X button on your controller and terminate the
connection of your FTP client or just close the FTP client on your PC completely.
The PS3-FTP server should then shutdown and your PS3 should return to the XMB.
If you are a developer, you can also stop and restart PS3-FTP via telnet. Simply
connect to the FTP Port (21) of your PS3 via telnet and type "QUIT!" or "QUITR". If
you are running Unix and have the "expect" interpreter installed, you can use the
"stop" and "restart" scripts that are located at the repository's root directory.

Sony's long-rumoured PlayStation Phone is expected to be officially announced on December 9, ahead of a planned commercial launch in February 2011.
That's according to MobileCrunch, which is carrying a photo of an event invite received by French tech blog Nowereelse.fr. The invite features an image of the four PlayStation symbols alongside a picture of a telephone.
A source claiming to have seen the PS Phone first hand told the site that the event invite is real, and that the device's screen is "mind-blowing", on-par with the iPhone 4s retina display.
Apparently the PS Phone is "nowhere near ready", but Sony-Ericsson is nevertheless aiming for a February 2011 launch.
The off-contract price of the handset could be in the region of $500, with the purchase including five free games. Games will likely be priced like mobile titles and not downloadable PSP ones, meaning under $10, the site also reports.
The first pictures of the as-yet-unofficially-unannounced PS Phone hit the net last month.
Sony subsequently discussed how it may bring a PlayStation Phone to market - and even hinted that an iPad-style tablet might not be far behind.

Don't go knockin' Sony for resting on its laurels. The company that has spearheaded the 3D gaming push (NVIDIA notwithstanding) is apparently not even close to finished, with SCEE studio director Mick Hocking taking the time to get our juices flowing in an interview with Develop. The full spill is quite lengthy, and definitely a solid read for those interested, but a few key nuggets jumped out at us. For starters, Mike confessed that Sony has "techniques like holographics for the PS3 that [he thinks] will be very interesting for the future 3D games," and continued with this: "In regards to that we have some new technology that we've shown to developers that uses 3D techniques, it allows two players to play full screen multi-player games but without each being able to see the others view, and they have been massively keen on them." Of course, such a technique isn't exactly new -- we saw prototypes of the sort in use back at GDC -- but bringing them to a market as vast as the PS3 owner pool would definitely be a monumental step. Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got a Gran Turismo 5 disc laying here that needs our undivided attention for the time being.. .

November 25th, 2010, 00:05 Posted By: wraggster
Can the PlayStation 3 beat the overwhelming sales success of PlayStation 2? Chris Deering, the founding president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, thinks it can - "maybe more".
Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer - as part of a sweeping exploration of the life and times of PS2-era Sony through the mouths of those that shaped it - Deering said when the PS3 Slim price falls, sky's the limit.
"I think it can sell as many as PS2, maybe more," Deering revealed.
"In the case of both PS1 and PS2, we sold more Slim units than original models. The PS3 Slim has only been out a couple of years.
"If you could get a PS3 for a hundred pounds... Can you imagine? It could go much higher and last longer."
But Phil Harrison, former head of Sony Worldwide Studios and key speaker at PS3 press conferences over the years, isn't so sure.
"I hope PS3 can match PS2, but I think the market dynamics are slightly different," he said. "It's much more competitive.
"For a large chunk of its lifecycle PS2 didn't really have any competition anywhere in the world, so Sony was able to sell a huge number of units. If PS3 does reach the same level it will take longer and it will be a more difficult challenge."
The PlayStation 2, to date, has managed 147.6 million sales worldwide. The only console likely to match that at the moment is Wii, which has sold at a faster pace than PS2 since launch. PS3 sales are currently at 41.6 million worldwide.
Sony UK boss Ray Maguire admits there is a "long way to go", and recognises that "most of the PS2 product we sold was sold at £150 or below".
The PlayStation 3 launched in the UK in March 2007 at the eye-popping price of £425 for the 60GB model. Today, over three years later, a 160GB PS3 Slim sells for £249.99.
Mulling the question over, Chris Deering concluded: "Ken Kutaragi is a genius, but he got a little bit unlucky with PS3. You can't be lucky enough to get three gold medals in a row."
Our full insiders story about PS2-era Sony is live right now. And who better to write about the personalities, the parties, the luck, signing GTAIII and the runaway success than Ellie Gibson - who used to work there.

Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi has told Eurogamer that he "doesn't know" if the next Gran Turismo game will release for PlayStation 3 or the next generation of console hardware.
"10 years ago it was easier to predict what would happen three years in the future," he said in an exclusive interview at the official GT5 launch event in Madrid. "Nowadays no-one knows what happens in the future. In three years, we don't know what will happen."
Pressed on whether the game would miss this generation he laughed and shrugged.
With GT5 finally releasing today, Yamauchi-san also responded to criticism of the online feature set, revealing to Eurogamer, "Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution."
During a stage presentation earlier in the evening, Yamauchi pledged that his team would be "upgrading every week, every month" to improve the game, which took five years to develop.
Yamauchi described the game as a "pet" that his team had "nourished and looked after," paying special tribute to fans, "all of whom have helped and supported us to develop Gran Turismo."
Beneath a video screen slogan which read: "Today is not the finale. Today is only the beginning of a new era for Gran Turismo," the series creator insisted that his team's work on the project was far from complete.
Tonight also saw the formal unveiling of the Red Bull X1 – a prototype car designed by Red Bull engineers exclusively for the game. Hidden under a black sheet on stage, the car was revealed by Yamauchi and Jaime Alguersuari, the youngest ever F1 driver.
F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel appeared in a video message to say: "I had a good chance to get some laps in with the X1. I'm pretty sure you will all enjoy this game."
We'll bring you our full chat with Kaz later in the week.

Planning on shoving a Move controller in a loved one's stocking this Christmas? Bad news: Sony is expecting shortages after misjudging demand of its new peripheral.
Sony's marketing VP Peter Dille told Venturebeat that PlayStation Move would be in short supply through January in the US, UK and Japan.
"We have a catch-up problem in all three territories that will last until January or February," he claimed.
Dille's comments come hot on the heels of similar warnings from Microsoft earlier this month, regarding availability of its Kinect peripheral.
Cynical scare-mongering to inspire shoppers to rush down to the shops? Or genuine public service announcements? You decide.
