An anonymous source has contacted us with some exciting, exclusive news. He has released a PSX emulator for PS3, entitled PS3SX. The emu is a port of PCSX to the PS3. It runs at full speed, full screen, and supports CDDA and XA audio. This pre-release also features 2 player support, saving, and iso formats *.iso *.bin *.mds *.img.
Currently the source code has not been released, but it will be once the emu is completely ported using just the PSL1GHT SDK. PS3SX will run on all retail 3.41 units (fat and slim). Currently it is untested on older firmwares and does not work on debug units (PS3 Test units).
Instructions: Install PKG file on PS3. Either use the folders from the rar file, or make "bios" "MC" and "psxrom" folders in the root of a USB drive. Download PSX bios file below, and place it in "bios" folder. Place legally owned PSX backup ISO's in the "psxrom" folder. Run emulator and play!
Please note there is currently a bug with this pre-release. You can only quit the emulator when running a game. If you attempt to exit to XMB at the rom menu, the emulator will freeze.

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2010/11/30/t...ased-for-6-35/
Lots of you have been asking questions about Total_Noob’s silence recently, despite the release of a new firmware from Sony, OFW 6.35.
You may recall that TN’s initial plan was to release the Hen for OFW 6.20 through the Patapon exploit and HBL, and he said that “When Sony releases a new firmware [he would] port it to 6.31″.
This statement was assuming Sony would release a new firmware AFTER the release of the Hen, in order to patch it…but 6.35 came unexpectedly.
You may also remember that Total_Noob announced he also has a vsh user mode exploit that could work with the Hen. After discussing with several hackers he had decided to keep that one under wraps, and use the patapon exploit on 6.20 instead… but again 6.35 came and changed things.
In the current state, releasing the Hen only for 6.20 would feel only like a “semi success”… I contacted Total_Noob yesterday, and his answer was short but clear:
I’ll release HEN for 6.35 with VSH Exploit
So, there you go.
This means several things:
•Total_Noob has probably been extremely busy recently porting his work to a new firmware and a new exploit. So let’s let him breathe
•This announce might delay the release of the Hen, but I am not sure about that, Total_Noob didn’t tell me how far he is in the port.
•The Hen will work directly on 6.35, will not require a commercial game or even a Demo, and will not require HBL. It will run directly from somewhere in the XMB
This is pretty good news for 6.3x owners I guess
Oh, and no matter what, do not upgrade for now. I personally have proof that the Hen works on 6.20, nothing else. So don’t upgrade before you see an actual release!

News via http://www.pcsp-emu.com/news.php?readmore=45#comments
Hlide here again,
I read some posts where people are confusing by having pcsp-udb v0.4.0 and pcsp v0.3.0 and I am pretty sure it will be the same for pcsp-udb v0.5.0 and pcsp v0.4.0.
So we decided to change it this way :
- any changes done in pcsp-udb will be released with the svn revision as version
- if a new release of pcsp vX.Y.Z is out, a pcsp-udb will be released as pcsp-udb vX.Y.Z, that is the same version as pcsp since most people seem to think this way.
So yes, pcsp-udb v0.5.0 is an issue.
So the next release will be 0.5.1 (minor fix) or 0.6.0 (major evolution).

news via http://www.psp-hacks.com/2010/11/28/...firmware-6-36/
Seems so according to a Japanese source over at pspslimhacks… It’s reported that said firmware — PSP Firmware 6.36 — is secured so tight that plugins like Prometheus or Torky’s will not work, which means any games requiring 6.36 you’re shit out of luck. That’s of course until someone cracks the new keys, which probably won’t take all that long. Or wait… Has Sony introduced some crazy new method in shutting us down? Nothing that couldn’t be hacked I’m sure… I think the real question is: Does 6.36 patch TN’s kernel exploit? 6.35 doesn’t. But it seems too soon for that seeing as Monster Hunter Portable 3rd ships December 1st. What do you think?

November 29th, 2010, 23:27 Posted By: wraggster
Lawyers for Sony Computer Entertainment America must have been mighty busy last October, hatching the wild scheme that came to light this week -- a series of eight intertwining patent applications all describing a single device with an intriguing touchscreen interface. Though it's hard to tell what form the final device might take -- the apps suggest sliders, clamshells and slates -- a few distinct ideas bubble to the surface, and we'll knock them out one by one. First, the inventors seem to be rather particular about having a touchpad that's separate from the main screen -- perhaps even on its back like the rumored PSP2 -- and Sony's trying to patent a way to manipulate objects through the screen as well. Second, there's a lot of mumbo-jumbo about being able to "enhance" or "transform" the user interface in response to different forms of input, which seems to boil down to this: Sony's trying to get some multitouch up in there, especially pinch-to-zoom.
Last but not least, the company's looking to cordon off a section of touchscreen buttons, including a 'paste' command, and patent a "prediction engine" that would dynamically change the onscreen layout based on your past behavior. If most of these ideas sound more at home in a new tablet computer rather than a gaming handheld, then great minds think alike. Still, SCEA is Sony's gaming division -- forlorn Linux computing aside -- so consider us stumped for now.

Just days after Sony's Qriocity video-on-demand service went live across Europe, in flies this -- news that the aforesaid service will be spreading its wings and touching the PSP in short order. Word on the street has it that the next PlayStation Portable update (v6.35) will bring along Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity, described as a "new, cloud-based, digital music service from Sony that will give music lovers access to millions of songs stored and synchronized through the cloud." Post-update, users will notice a new icon in the PSP's XrossMediaBar under the 'Music' category, and moreover, the Media Go application for managing PSP downloadable content on your PC will be updated "with enhancements to the user interface and advanced photo editing tools." Sony's remaining mum on a launch date, but the internet is already abuzz about what this may mean for the impending PlayStation Phone. Will Sony finally have a leg-up over iOS with an ingrained unlimited music client? A boy can dream, can't he?
Update: Tipster Isaac spotted the screen above and the one after the break on his PSPgo today. Looks like the launch may be sooner than we'd imagined, eh?

November 29th, 2010, 22:51 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft and Sony are manufacturing shortages of their Kinect and Move add-ons to ignite consumer demand, according to retail analyst Michael Pachter.
The Wedbush Morgan motormouth told IncGamers, "Yes, I think both companies would very much like for consumers to believe that their devices are highly sought after and difficult to obtain. That usually works to spur demand.
"Sony shipped 2.5 million units in the U.S. and Europe, and their sales are nowhere near that level, so I'm not sure how they can reconcile the fact that units shipped far exceed units sold.
"I do think that Microsoft is managing supply a bit better," he added, "and keeping standalone Kinect supply tight to make sure that there is a steady supply through Christmas. They have shipped a lot of console bundles, to ensure that the eBay price doesn't get above $300 for the standalone unit, but supply of the standalone remains tight.
"Sony are trying the same strategy as Microsoft with Kinect, making sure that there are plenty of bundles, but controlling supply of the standalone controllers."
Earlier this month both Microsoft and Sony claimed that their peripherals would be in short supply over the Christmas period following stellar launches.

Hermes may have stopped with payloads for PS3 jailbreaks but he hasn't left the scene. He's back and he brings us goodies. He just ported over Doom, Heretic and Hexen for the PlayStation 3.
Google Translation:
Good
To celebrate PSL1GHT already beginning to have a body and the creation of Soundlib PS3 that can play up to 16 voices sound, I carried two classic PC to PS3 that use multiple effects: The Heretic and Hexen games
Required to operate and HEXEN.WAD, HERETIC.WAD WADs respectively (shareware or not and so, in case that name) to be copied into the directory of EBOOT.BIN or otherwise within the folder "heretic "and" hexen "respectively, in a USB device.
At the start of the game, if installed in hard disk (by PKG) is the option to press CIRCLE to copy the contents of the folders "heretic" or "hexen" from the USB device to the installation path of the game, with facilitaros to life.
On the other hand, I've got vibration in command: when we receive a damage activates the strong vibration, but when it is an enemy that takes damage, you'll notice in the form of lower vibration.
The latter is perhaps not very realistic since it is well if we are what we are violating the damage at close range, but not so much long distance and to say that the command is currando vibrate when the bugs between them ... [Laughs]. However, I have left and that sometimes is good to know you have a few wild animals around and it is useful to know that truly, your ammunition is doing pupa (not all hard-nosed realism XD)
You also have option of using a series of cheats as mentioned in the readme.txt.
On the other hand, let me know if you have problems with the display: I have checked the HDMI modes available to me (which excludes 1080P) to try to find the viewable screen and use a routine that re-scale a screen "virtual" format output. The problem is that the drawing area of the screen in PS3, is outside the visible area of your monitor / screen and that requires some adjustments I've made based on my screen and do not know if any other, can cause problems or not, or whether any other resolution requires further adjustments (one thing is to see a slight edge to the right, for example, and second straight, are not things that should appear.) It distinguishes between 4:3 and 16:9
Installation
There are two ways for install
1) By PKG. On this occasion, copy the folder content "pkg" on the root's directory of the USB device and "Install Package Files" on the PS3
2) By SELF. On this occasion, copy "homebrew" on the root's directory of the USB device and load the aplications with the "Open Manager" or another homebrew loader.
Heretic requires the file HERETIC.WAD that can be copied where is EBOOT.BIN (/dev_hdd0/game/HERETIC01/USRDIR or /dev_usb/homebrew/Heretic) or on the USB device making the folder called "heretic" and copying HERETIC.WAD (/dev_usb/heretic/HERETIC.WAD)
The filename MUST be ONLY uppercase letters.
For short copying files, there is an utility starting the game: on the licence's screen you can press Circle button if you want to copy the content from dev_usb/heretic to the location of the game in the hard disk (/dev_hdd0/game/HERETIC01/USRDIR)
You can use a FTP program for copy HERETIC.WAD too.
For the files of HEXEN is something like the previous method, but in this occasion, is required HEXEN.WAD that must be copied to /dev_usb/hexen (for all the installations) or /dev_usb/homebrew/Hexen (Open Manager) or to /dev_hdd0/game/HEXEN0001/USRDIR (HDD).
And you can copy on the license's screen the content of /dev_usb/hexen a /dev_hdd0/game/HEXEN0001/USRDIR pressing CIRCLE button
HELP SCREEN / CONTROLS
At any time you can press START button for open the help screen (the game is paused at this time). The help screen show the game controls and pause the game.
With SELECT button you can enter on the Main menu. The another buttons are these:
HERETIC
Left Stick: Moving back and forward on side-scrolling

L2 button: Run
R2 button: Shoot
X button: Change weapon

Hlide here again !
Ok, Evangelion doesn't run anymore. I guess the addition of Audio and the changes in threadman are probably for something. In fact, I suspect some games were able to run in a very hacky way because the thread scheduler wasn't playing its role properly and so some waiting threads were awaked even if their waiting condition wasn't met. And it could also explain why this game was so slow.
A new vsync limiter was coded using a time critical thread to wakeup any psp threads waiting for a VSYNC event. It is a cleaner way to limit FPS to 60. A change in threadman was necessary to make it work.
An audio implementation based on PortAudio with its own time critical threads to play audio samples also needed a change in threadman.
As a result, you may really need a multi-core to keep a smooth running pcsp.
Beware, this version is very experimental : if you have some games which ran fine and have a freeze ingame with this release, try to disable vsync limiter and relaunch pcsp to check if it occurs again. There are probably issues with inter-thread synchronisations and they are very hard to spot. A new minor release will be out as soon as a fix is found.

Sony announced this week that BBC America programming is heading to PlayStation 3's across the United States. To kick off the new partnership, BBC America has made the first episode of the American version of "Top Gear" available at no charge (normally $1.99 for SD, $2.99 for HD), at least for the first two weeks. "Doctor Who" and "Being Human" will join "Top Gear" on the network's launch list at some point in December, and BBC America promises to "rapidly add BBC programming each week, including the best of the BBC's library as well as currently airing series."
As you've likely already guessed, the BBC's offerings can be found in the video section of the PlayStation Store starting right now.

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2010/11/28/happy-birthday-hbl/
Once in a while, I browse my old posts on this blog, to see “who I was” a few years ago. Yes, I guess I’m a kind of narcissist… One of the thing I like to do, is to see “what I posted” one year before…
Most of you probably heard of Half Byte Loader for the first time around April this year, when we released a port for the Patapon2 exploit. But did you know that the work on HBL started more than one year ago, back in 2009? And that the first public release (a prototype aimed at devs only) was made in November that year, and already open source? How many of us realized at that time that m0skit0’s prototype would become such a huge part of the PSP’s hacking history? Well, if you’re interested, you can read the visionary (lol) article I wrote when HBL was first released:

Too bad the announcement’s source, AdvancedPSP, was taken down earlier this year
Total_Noob’s Hen will change the rules again, the way Davee’s chickHen changed the rules more than a year ago, but expect HBL to still be around when new firmwares show up

Netflix doesn't make a move without testing things out first, which is evidenced by the many variations seen in its recently unveiled Watch Instantly interface for the PlayStation 3, pricing and even website redesigns. Chief Product Officer Neil Harris opened up about the company's methodology in an answer on Quora, revealing it is currently delivering three different UIs for the PS3 and that testing often indicates simplicity trumps completeness. The idea is to find out more about people's tastes and how quickly they discover information as elements are moved around, though as proud as they are, we'd still prefer some choice in the matter instead of rolling the dice every time we load the service.

Sony is able to improve the accuracy of motion-sensing controller Move through firmware updates to the PlayStation 3 – but it may decide not to.
"We can certainly update it through firmware," Anton Mikhailov, a software engineer at Sony Computer Entertainment America's research and development department and one of Move's chief creators, told Eurogamer in a new interview published today.
"The real question is, do we want to? So far we haven't had any real requests from studios to improve the accuracy. There are a couple of issues here and there we can fix, but the majority the games are not even taxing it to its full accuracy."
Mikhailov said Sony has found that gamers tend to have trouble performing actions precisely, rather than the Move not being precise enough to detect them – because games can be ultra realistic.
He highlighted the expert difficulty on Sports Champions' table tennis game, which removes all assists.
"At that point you're thinking, well, how much more precise does it need to be? We need to decide. There's room for some more precision. It's going to be up to us."
Ellie reviewed Sports Champions for Eurogamer, awarding it a solid 7/10. On table tennis she wrote: "The virtual bat mimics your movements perfectly so you can perform different types of hit, and misses never feel unfair. It's well worth playing through the tutorials to learn just how much depth there is to the game."
Looking to the future, Mikhailov expressed excitement at dual-handed interaction, which enables 3D multi-touch gameplay.
But gamers will notice improvements to one-to-one control over virtual characters before anything else.
"The character control and animations are going to improve vastly because most games of this era were set up to do DualShock control. Everything was baked and scripted. With the Move you have this one-to-one control over the character – you've seen that in The Fight and Sports Champions.
"There are noticeably some glitches and everyone's aware of that. It's quite good, in my opinion, for the time we had, but we can improve on that. That will be much better in the future.
"People are going to experiment with the basics. Different camera angles and different setups of the HUD, things like that, just to make the experience feel closer and more connected. There's a bunch of work we can do there."
Half the people who want to buy Move, which went on sale in September, are parents, according to Sony. Apparently 60 per cent of the people who want Move already own Nintendo's console - they want to upgrade their motion-sensing experience apparently.
