Sony will initially lose around 5,000 yen (£39.90) on every PS Vita unit sold.
That's according to estimates by SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Kazuharu Miura, who told Bloomberg (via Andriasang) that the figure is likely to fall to 2,500 yen per system in the fiscal year ending March 2013.
Miura expects Sony to sell 2.5 million PS Vita hardware units and seven million Vita games by the end of the current fiscal year in March 2012, and 8.5 million hardware units and 28 million software units the following year.
Sony said earlier this month that Vita will launch in Japan this year and in US and Europe in 2012. When it does launch in the UK, Vita will set you back £229 for the Wi-Fi model and £279 for the 3G version.
Analysts have suggested the company's under "major pressure" to reduce the launch price of the system following Nintendo's recent 3DS price cut.http://www.computerandvideogames.com/315414/sony-to-lose-pound40-per-vita-sale-analyst-reckons/

High Street retailer GAME is to sell digital PlayStation 3 titles in-store, beginning with first-party releases like God of War Collection, MAG and Killzone Steel Rain Map Pack.
Initially limited to first-party titles, the roll-out begins in 42 GAME and Gamestation stores today, with all 620 shops expected to be selling Sony's digital content by September.
"This is a significant step forward in our digital strategy. For the first time, gamers will be able to browse a wide range of digital titles for the PlayStation Network in our stores, alongside a variety of other digital and physical products," said Ian Shepherd, GAME CEO.
"The partnership reflects the close and long standing relationship between GAME and SCEE across Europe as both companies move rapidly to innovate and bring new products and services to customers."
Last month GAME began selling digital PC and browser content in store.

Sony is about to launch its new handheld games console into a market that has fundamentally changed since the success of mobile devices, and is likely heading for a costly and ultimately doomed launch.
That's according to Lyle Hall and Matthew Seymour at Heavy Iron Studios, who believe the console is over-priced - but more importantly - that consumers have already demonstrated that they are no longer willing to pay out for single-function games devices.
"If people aren't willing to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS why would they pay $299 for Vita? People don't want to carry more than one thing in their pocket, that’s why Android and iPhone have done so well, they are the devices of choice, they offers multiple functions outside of gaming," Hall told GamesIndustry.biz.
I just don't know there's a market out there anymore for the hardware. I can’t see why you would want to put a device out that only does games
Lyle Hall, Heavy Iron Studios
"People don’t want it. That's Nintendo huge challenge - how do they add value to that?
Seymour, who has worked for 2K Games and Microsoft Games Studios in a career spanning 20 years, was more blunt in his assessment. "With all due respects to Sony and Vita, it's a car wreck. And how about Xperia Play? I'd love to pull up the numbers on that."
The PlayStation Vita is due this year in Japan and early next year in the US and Europe. The system will be taking centre stage at Gamescom this week, as Sony looks to position itself at the forefront of portable gaming after rival Nintendo launched the 3DS to muted response from consumers.
Less than six months since the launch of the 3DS the system has had its price unceremoniously halved in Europe, and is suffering from a lack of software and the perception that it's a simple upgrade to the DS family of consoles.
Sony's most recent attempts in the handheld market haven't been successful either. The digital-only PSPgo is largely forgotten and its mobile collaboration with Sony Ericsson - the Xperia Play - had no significant marketing push behind it.
Despite a harsh assessment of the Vita, Heavy Iron would like to see the machine succeed, said Hall, but it's the consumer that has voted with its wallet and changed the market.
"The technology is sweet, I'm a huge fan of mobile technology, but I just don't know there's a market out there anymore for the hardware. I can’t see why you would want to put a device out that only does games.
"The consumer has spoken. We wanted to see that world exist - more players, more opportunities for us, but at the same time people don't want that. Unless there's a super technology paradigm shift it’s not going to shift back."

Sony has offered a free PSP and games to a man who was videoed being mugged for his console during the London riots earlier this week.
Sony Europe marketing director Alan Duncan revealed the move in the comments section of a website set up to "do something nice for Ashraf Haziq", offering to replace the 20-year-old's PSP that was taken from his bag.
In a video (below) that appalled the nation, looters were seen to steal the system from Haziq's bag as he stood bleeding in the street.
"I'm the marketing director for PlayStation UK," Duncan posted under the username 'albinolove33'. "[We'd] like to give him a new PSP and games. Let me know the best way of getting in touch with Ashraf or the hospital. Thanks."
Sony is also one of the many victims of the London riots. A Sony warehouse in Enfield was set ablaze late on Monday night as unrest swept the capital.http://www.computerandvideogames.com/315024/sony-offers-mugged-london-riots-victim-free-psp-and-games/

Vita may be just months away from release but that isn't stopping Sony from rolling out more sweet bundles for PSP.
The platform holder has confirmed it will release a new PSP Entertainment Pack in US which bundles a black PSP-3000, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and both Madden NFL 12 and Need for Speed SHIFT on UMD.
All that will set American gamers back $159.99 (just under £100) and goes on sale from August 30 (bundle pictured).
Sony executive vice president Kaz Hirai announced a 2011 release date for PlayStation Vita in Japan, but confirmed the handheld won't hit Europe or the US until next year.
The official announcement of PlayStation Vita's Japanese release date will "probably" happen at the Tokyo Game Show next month, Sony's said.

As if saving your PS3 games to the cloud wasn't convenient enough, Sony's gone and automated the process for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The v3.70 software update offers an automatic sync option for trophies and game save states, giving members exclusive access to their gaming goods wherever they go. The firmware also packs a few additional features for non-paid users, adding a recommendation function to items in the PlayStation store, and a new "TV / Video Services" XMB category for Netflix, Hulu PLUS and VUDU apps. Sony's also thrown in a few 3D tweaks, with MPO format compatibility for photos, and support for Java-based special features and DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR audio output for 3D Bluray movie playback. Although the gaming giant hasn't announced an official date for the release, expect it to hit your home console soon.

In addition to the Mega Man 9 and 10 DLC packs listed as discounted in this week'sPSN update, you can also get ... Mega Man 9 and 10. And Mega Mans 1-3. Though they didn't show up on Sony's official list of updates, the entire Mega Man catalog on PS3 is on sale this week, half off.
The PSOne Imports versions of Mega Man 1, 2, and 3 (based on the Japanese PlayStation re-releases) are now available for $2.99 each. Mega Man 9 and 10 sell for $4.99 each this week, with DLC bundles an extra $2.99. Given Capcom's recent attitude toward Mega Man, we'd love to see what happened if these discounts led to a massive sales boost.

via http://www.emucr.com/2011/08/pcsx2-svn-r4856.html
PCSX2 SVN r4856 is released. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.
PCSX2 SVN Changelog:
r4853
SPU2-X: Removed the std::vector I used out of lazyness. The config dialog should no longer keep an ever-growing list of devices, and it has less potential side-effects if somehow the portaudio device list changes while the dialog is open.
3rdparty/portaudio: Removed debug prints on release targets.
r4854
SPU2-X: Experimental change! Lowered the lower latency limit to 3ms if the timestretcher is not being used. This latency will add up to the output latency as usual, but with a good sound chip this should allow overall latencies < 15ms.
r4855
Added "portable.ini" to /bin, so SVN builds will work in portable mode by default.
r4856

via http://www.psp-ita.com/4530-406-HEN_...N_6.39TN).html
The HEN Total_Noob developed by the developer have certainly played a key role in reactivating the underground scene PSP to make it even more now. Just last HEN TN Guiguixbox360 aside the work of the developer, who realizes the EZ version, mod HeNe 6.39TN.
All the various TN HEN proved a cut above the various homebrew enabler released before them. Total_Noob had in fact chosen to implement the functions (VSH and support prx) hitherto exclusive custom firmware , reserving, however, exclude the ability to start backup format ISO or CSO in order to prevent his becoming a pretext for the HEN warez.
The developer Guiguixbox360 but chose to rely on the last effort of Totanl_Noob, the HEN 6:39 TN, to develop the ' HEN 6.39EZ moddata version that allows to boot up directly from XMB without the use of ISO Loader external, as well as translated in French on-screen text HeNe.
The HEN is signed to be launched on OFWs, therefore, in accordance with the adopted polita by PSP-ITA in the field of copyright, is prohibited from providing direct or indirect links to download the material in question. We thank you for reporting patty9998

via http://psp.dashhacks.com/2011/08/09/...ta-5-released/
Who’s jamming Geecko’s gSquare? Pretty awesome, ain’t it? Well did you know said homebrew was built using Geecko’s 2D graphics library — gLib2D? That means you too can create pure awesomeness with relative ease, should you, yourself be a developer.
gLib2D provides a layer between your code and the PSPGU, letting you interact with the PSP graphics processor for rendering & manipulating 2D graphics. It’s much easier than talking directly to the PSPGU. Include the gLib2D library in your project and code on.
Beta 5 Changes
•Improved support of intraFont
•Renamed g* functions to g2d*
•Removed g2dSetCoord*Relative’s third argument
•Using constants instead of bools for some g2d* functions (better readability)
•Dynamic allocation of the display list, no more artifacts with a small heap
•Replaced G2D_FALSE and G2D_TRUE by false and true
•Added a global scale factor : g2d(Set/Get/Reset)GlobalScale
•Better scaling quality
•Lots of code rework
•No more swizzling artifacts
•Smaller display list size, saves 3/4 megabyte
•Forced coordmode with an inverted object is no longer applied
•Corrected documentation
