A fire at a Sony warehouse in Enfield could could delay deliveries of Sony products. The entertainment company is just one of the many buisnesses hit by the recent London riots.
No injuries have been reported, but the 20,000 square metre storage facility, which is operated by subsidiary Sony DADC and handles distribution of Blu-rays, CDs and DVDs, was still in flames this morning, with fire fighters on the scene.
"There will likely be some impact on deliveries," Yoko Yasukochi, a Sony spokeswoman told Reuters.
"We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it's not possible to enter the building," she added.
Reports from the scene suggest the warehouse was looted before being set alight by youths with petrol bombs.
The news caused a two per cent drop in Sony share prices.

Android developer Yifan Lu has reverse engineered the Xperia Play's native PlayStation emulator to make it run ripped PSX ISOs. That means you're no longer limited to Crash Bandicoot or the handful of other PSX titles that have officially trickled out from Sony Ericsson. Instead, you can grab your original games from the attic, rip them into disc images, and bring them back to life on your Play. Er, assuming that's legal, of course. Perhaps you should move to Papua New Guinea before trying it. We've attached one of Lu's videos to prove that his tweaked emulator actually works. His custom ISO of choice? More Bandicoot.

[SENDSPACE]AnyLanguageStudy v2.0 (signed)
Introduction
AnyLanguageStudy is a vocabulary builder application for PSP. It's created in the purpose of learning Japanese words. For example, you could use it along side with Japanese for Busy People to efficiently learn the essential key words. The application helps you to learn the language through word lists, image lists, sentences and sentence audio. It can also be used as a helpful portable dictionary.
By default, Japanese word lists are most supported. But you may easily (due to the csv format) create your own word lists for the language of your choice. Get and convert word lists from Anki if you do not wish to create them from a scratch. If you're studying more than one language, AnyLanguageStudy supports grouping the lists alphabetically by category.
Keys
UP: Move up / Switch mode (e.g. English-Japanese -> Japanese-English) / Switch OSK (Normal / Hiragana / Katakana)
DOWN: Move down / Switch mode / Switch OSK
RIGHT: Next page / Switch show (e.g. romaji -> hiragana -> kanji)
LEFT: Previous page / Switch show
ANALOG UP/DOWN: Increase/decrease font size or move up/down
ANALOG LEFT/RIGHT: Increase/decrease range or move left/right or previous/next page
R: Next page / Clear list of learned words
L: Previous page / Search
SQUARE: Select / Answer / Play sound
TRIANGLE: Select / Answer
CIRCLE: Select / Answer
CROSS: Select / Answer
HOME: Quick quit (saving of learned words is done before quiting)
SELECT: Open word list menu (saving of learned words is done before menu shows up)
START: Open global options menu
Creating word lists
### Word lists ###
AnyLanguageStudy folder includes a file dictionary.ini. The file contains info about fonts (used by a word list) and paths to word lists. If you create your own word list, simply add a new line that has the primary and secondary font info and path separated by ; (for example jpn0.pgf;ltn0.pgf;language/myLanguage/myWordList.csv). Fonts supported (by Intrafont) are
lnt0.pgf (usually a good choice for primary and secondary font. Suitable for languages that have accents.)
lnt1.pgf (usually these fonts are not needed)
...
lnt15.pgf
jpn0.pgf (for Japanese)
gb3s1518.bwfon (for Chinese)
kr0.pgf (for Korean)
arib.pgf
Fonts need to locate in flash0:/font/. If you have installed 1.50 kernel addon, you may be missing a few fonts (kr0.pfg and arib.pgf probably). You can find more information about fonts here: http://www.psp-programming.com/benhur/pgf_char_table_font.htm
If you do not want to use some word list, comment the line with #.
Word list format is also comma-separated value (csv). Words are separated with ;. For example, Finnish-English word list might have the following words:
auto;car
kissa;cat
aurinko;sun
Last word is always definition because same word might have multiple presentation formats. For example, Japanese-English word list might have the following words:
kuruma;くるま;車;car
neko;ねこ;猫;cat
hi;ひ;日;sun
An easy way to create lists is to use OpenOffice Calc and save the file as csv. After this you need to convert the file to UTF-8 without BOM encoding (DO NOT USE ANSI!). Notepad++ can be used to achieve this. You may also want to use Notepad++ to remove all " characters.
### Picture word lists ###
You may want to create picture word lists. In this case csv-file's definition is picture path. For example, cat;language/images/cat.png. Picture must end with .png. It is recommended that picture size is less than or equal to 480x272 (PSP's screen size). If you need more examples, see study_verbs_with_pictures.csv file. Only mode 1 is supported with pictures.
### Grouping word lists ###
You can group word lists by adding a group name after the path of a word list. For example,
jpn0.pgf;language/myLanguage/myWordList.csv;Japanese word list group name comes here
If you don't give a group name, it is shown as Unknown.
### Sentences ###
Sentences use csv-format. Again last is definition. The sentence file should be put in the same folder as word lists that use the sentences. Sentence list must be named sentence.csv so that it is found. For example, a line in sentence.csv might be:
Auto on nopea;Car is fast
Let's assume that you're asked what "Car" is in Finnish (it's "Auto"). When you have answered right, the above sentence is shown as it has the word "Auto".
### Sentences with audio ###
You're also able to add a wav-audio file for a sentence. For this, you must tell in sentence.csv the location/name of the audio file. By default the location is the same folder where corresponding sentence.csv is located. Let's assume we have a file car.wav that says "Auto on nopea". We just move this file to the same folder as sentence.csv and tell the filename by adding ;car like this:
Auto on nopea;Car is fast;car
The .wav ending is added automatically. If we want to use a sub folder called sound, we would move the wav file to the sound folder and do this:
Auto on nopea;Car is fast;sound/car
If you need an example, see language/japanese/sentence.csv.

The Lavalit guys have released a new version of their Beatem Up for the Dreamcast, PSP, Wiz, Wii, GP2x and Dingoo:
penBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game engine, which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
History
----------------------
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Available Platforms
----------------------
OpenBOR has a very modular and portable design inherited from Beats of Rage. Ports
to the following platforms are currently supported:
* Windows
* Linux
* Mac OS X
* Wii
* PSP
* Dreamcast
* GP2X
* GP2X Wiz
* Dingoo a320
In addition to the above, the original Beats of Rage engine (downloadable from
the Senile Team website) is available for the following platforms:
* DOS
* Playstation 2
* Xbox
* GP32
* Palmtop

It was one of the most striking innovations of the last work of Total Noob , a "TN Settings" to change the options of the HEN directly on the XMB, now migrates to new CFW, just to CFW of neur0ner. Frostegater , PSP Russian Developer Forum Wololo us his latest creation, a plug-in name " ME XMB Control "which lets you play the functions of the TN mode Settings on CFW / LCFW 6.39 9.1 ME . Now, once plugin enabled, you can manage and modify the parameters of ME CFW directly from the XMB without having to go through the recovery menu.
To apply the new method on its CFW / LCFW 6.39 ME 9.1, you must put the contents of the downloaded archive (xmbctrl + vsh not Go for PSP, xmbctrl vsh_go + for PSP Go) in the folder seplugins . If there are already other plugins on your PSP, you must put the file xmbctrl in its place, add the following line to the text file vsh / vsh_go.txt then activate the plugin via the plugin manager integrated: ms0: / seplugins / xmbctrl / xmbctrl.prx 1 (For non-PSP CFW GB / 9.1 6.39 LCFW ME) EF0: / seplugins / xmbctrl / xmbctrl.prx 1 (for the PSP 1.9 GB 6.39 LCFW ME)

Here is a really bad port of my Wii/PC game Avoidance. It still plays and renders at 640×480 and instead of forcing the screen resolution down to that or being stretched to fill the screen its just drawn in the center of the screen with black borders filling the unused space. So the higher your resolution the less of the screen is actually used. If you are using a low resolution with component cables then part of the screen will flicker (I’m not completely sure why but it seems although double buffering is behaving differently then it does when using HDMI). Your score and high score are not displayed on screen and your high score is not saved. Like I said, it is a really bad port but it is playable and I don’t intend to spend any time trying to correct its flaws in the near future so I figured I would just post it as is.

Disclaimer: The above screenshot is actually from an unreleased PC version. But aside from the resolution the PS3 version should look identical.
I’ve started making a new homebrew PS3 game. It will be an action RPG game but it is very early in development. It currently consists of a forest that you can wander around in and some slime monsters that will follow you. You can attack but you can’t actually hurt the monsters and they can’t hurt you. There will be PC and Wii versions later.
What I would like from you:
For anybody that hasn’t noticed already the hero sprite and chests are from Neutopia II, the slime monsters are from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the grass and tree sprites are just ugly. I’m really more interested in programming then making sprites (I loathe drawing with a mouse) but I know there are a lot of people who are really into making sprites so I’m hoping that you might be one of them.
But I’ve tried the whole collaboration thing and it has consistently turned out to be a terrible idea. I’m not very fond of getting vague offers from 50 people only to find that most of them very obviously won’t ever actually contribute anything or are horrible at what it is that they want to help with and that of the remaining few that actually appear to be both competent and motivated they mysteriously disappear off the face of the planet before finishing anything.
I’m not going to chase people down trying to get them to contribute. I would rather just make everything myself.
So let me define the rules of engagement as clearly as I ****ing can. A link to the sprite sheet is available bellow. The sprites for the final game need to be of the same size and fit on the same sheet in the same places. If you find it to be insufficiently clear where the borders are that the sprites are intended to be made within then leave a comment saying so and I will edit this post and add an additional copy of the sprite sheet that has them outlined. If you are interested in making sprites for this game then begin with making the sprites for the main character. The main character can look however you want them to look (they can be anything from an ultra cliche swords and sorcery dude to a three armed green alien with purple hair and robotic legs). If you complete the walking and attacking sprites for the main character in at least three of the eight directions then email your version of the sprite sheet to me at thatotherperson@yahoo.com and I will then potentially respond.

X button = attack

A Tottenham police officer has claimed that the London riots that saw buildings burn across the capital over the weekend were inspired by Grand Theft Auto.
That's according to UK trade bible MCV, which reports that the officer suggested to media this morning that the game had acted as a "catalyst" for the events.
A member of the Evening Standard newspaper confirmed that the GTA quotes were to be included in an article in tonight's edition of the free paper. The source would not rule out, however, the possibility of alterations being made before the paper hits presses.
In the same report, an Enfield resident is also credited with saying that GTA contributed to the civil unrest.
The Rockstar gangster series has, of course, been dragged to centre stage by the UK press following violent outbreaks in the past.
While the Daily Star didn't blame the killing spree that Raoul Moat embarked upon last July on GTA but it did claim that a GTA edition based on the horrific events was planned.http://www.computerandvideogames.com/314617/gta-inspired-tottenham-brixton-riots-suggests-police-officer/

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says consumer excitement surrounding Modern Warfare 3 is on a scale he hasn't witnessed before.
The executive told Reuters he couldn't disclose the number of pre-orders the publisher has taken for the game, but that it is "meaningfully different" to those for last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops.
"It's sort of surprising because you always go into the launch of a new Call of Duty game with an expectation that ... it's a hard number to beat, but if you look at the player enthusiasm for Modern Warfare 3, I don't know if we've really seen anything like it in our 21-year history."
Retailer GAME said last month it expects MW3 to break all UK pre-order records and become the firm's bestselling title ever.
Check out the most recent Modern Warfare 3 screenshots here.

Independent developer Icon Games has claimed that the PlayStation Vita marks a turnaround in Sony's relationship with the indie community.
A detailed post on the company's blog recounts an experience in 2005, in which Icon struck a deal worth $450,000 with a small US publisher to publish two of its games, Vertigo and Pool Hall Pro.
"The games were complete, already released in PAL territories and ready to go into SCEA QA," wrote director Richard Hill-Whittall.
The feedback was scathing; essentially Sony asked us to completely re-design the game and gameplay
Richard Hall-Whittall, Icon Games
"Sony refused concept approval, and the deal was dead – no negotiation – finished. Overnight we lost $450,000, which for a small studio would have drastically improved our position and helped us to invest more money into future development."
Since the introduction of PSP Minis, however, working with Sony has been a much more "positive experience". Icon Games has now developed five Minis, including two for the Vita - Build'n Race Extreme and Pub Games.
The Hill-Whittall complained that the initial stages of the approval process for the Vita offered evidence that Sony still doesn't understand how carefully indie developers need to manage resources.
"The feedback was scathing; essentially Sony asked us to completely re-design the game and gameplay, particularly in the case of Build'n Race Extreme."
"While some of the ideas were good these were ideas for another game; someone else's game – not the game we have been working on the past few months. It is also completely impractical given my budget."
"What if we re-design and they still are not happy or feel we haven't gone in the direction they want – what do we do then?"
But within two days SCEE agreed to a meeting, offering advice and support on how to finish each game to the right standard. He also claimed that Sony is open to games "of various different sizes and scope" and is more accepting of ports of iOS games.
Icon Games believes that the PSP was "hampered" by Sony "closing the door" on the indie community, but the success of the iOS platform and the App Store forced a change in the company's culture.
"Let the market decide – poor games won't sell and poor studios will fold," the post concludes. "iOS has proven that the consumer is open to a lot of different game styles and approaches, and this has allowed innovation to flourish in a way it hasn't done for a good many years."

The BBC has announced a revised version of its iPlayer TV catch-up service which will launch today for PlayStation 3. The update, which will be rolled out to over 300 other connected TV devices in the coming months, has been redesigned with the TV screen in mind, and offers a more personalised experience. Users can save favourite shows and view search history, with the service also making personalised recommendations. Daniel Danker, general manager of programmes and on demand, said: "With today's announcement, we're transforming iPlayer in its most natural home: right on the living room TV. By creating a product that's as simple and intuitive as flicking through TV channels, the BBC is bringing on-demand television to mainstream audiences across the UK."

If you live in a dorm room, or an efficiency in Manhattan, or a tiny Harry Potterstaircase closet, you were probably chuffed to bits when Sony announced their 24-inch PlayStation-branded 3DTV/Resistance 3 bundle during this year's E3. Now though, it looks like denizens of diminished domiciles will be doing a lot more wicked jumps, and lot less alien shooting.
Responding to inquiries regarding this Amazon listing, which shows Sony's PlayStation 3DTV bundled with MotorStorm: Apocalypse instead of Resistance 3, Insomniac Games confirmed the switch in a tweet, apologizing for any inconvenience. According to a statement made to Gamespot, MotorStorm: Apcalypse will also support the full-screen-but-also-split-screen functionality touted by Resistance 3, however no information about why the games were switched has been given as of yet.http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/06/sony-replaces-resistance-3-with-motorstorm-apocalypse-in-3dtv-b/

In an effort to prove that Sony ain't the boss o' them, Gamestop will be bundlingResistance 3 with each pre-order for the now-MotorStorm-infused PlayStation-branded 3DTV, launching this November. It's also possible that Gamestop is simply honoring its existing pre-orders while sweetening the pot to attract new buyers, but where's the fun in that?
As weird as pre-ordering a television set is, having two 3D-capable games certainly adds a little extra something to deal, and when you're spending $500 on anything it's important to get your money's worth. It will be interesting to see if other retailers follow suit, but considering the fact that this is a 24-inch 3DTV, we doubt potential buyers will have room for anything larger than another disc.http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/06/gamestop-bundling-resistance-3-with-playstation-3dtv-anyway-if/

Sony Computer Entertainment is under "major pressure" to reduce the launch price of PlayStation Vita following a cost reduction announcement from Nintendo.
That's according to Tokyo-based Ace Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda, who told Bloomberg the PlayStation firm risks "major failure" if it doesn't price its upcoming handheld - which is due out in Japan this year and in US and Europe in 2012 - competitively.
"Gamers are increasingly anticipating Sony to lower prices, especially after the 3DS cut," Yasuda told Bloomberg. "Sony is under major pressure to cut the price of the Vita or risk a major failure."
When it does launch in the UK, Vita will set you back £229 for the Wi-Fi model and £279 for the 3G version.
Sony chairman Kazuo Hirai signalled yesterday that the company won't engage in a price war with the Nintendo 3DS, which is set to have its RRP slashed by a third later this month.
But not all Japanese analysts believe Sony should react to Nintendo's dramatic action. Nomura Holdings man Shiro Mikoshiba believes a higher price point for Vita fits with its target audience.
"The customers Sony is targeting with its Vita are those willing to spend a lot of money," he said. "That's a valid strategy even if the volume's low as long as it can sustain the higher price."
