We've got more info for you on the pair of Android tablets Sony plans to launch next year, as our source indicates the dual 5.5-inch screened clamshell, thus far codenamed the S2, will launch as the Sony Tablet P. Hardware specs include a weight of 370 grams -- less than the iPad 2's 601 grams, but more than say, aKyocera Echo at 193g -- 512Mb of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 2GB SD card, with connectivity over 4G or WiFi. Both the Tablet P and the Tablet S will share NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors and 0.3MP (not 3.0MP as we'd previously reported) front cameras, but the more conventional, WiFi-only Tablet Sweighs in at 600g, has 1GB of RAM and will be available in 16GB or 32GB versions. There's still no word on price or exact shipping dates but retailers have reportedly been told to expect more information soon, so stay tuned for further updates.http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/sony-android-tablet-details-and-specs-continue-to-leak-s2-is/

In a startlingly honest admission, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has said he believes the PlayStation Vita has a better chance of succeeding in the market than Nintendo’s 3DS.
"I don't think [Vita] is in quite in the same boat as the 3DS,” he toldCVG. “The 3DS was a really interesting piece of technology but I think there was some confusion over it and the title slate was a little different.
"I think Vita has a better chance because it has a stronger title slate at launch. PSP's had a great run in Europe as a device, it seems to have reached a much larger audience here than it did in North America. So I think they've got a good shot.
“We're going to publish a few games on it and see how it develops."
Gibeau also remains impressed with the innovative tech Sony has built into its new device.
"Sony has got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen,” he argued. “It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with your friends and be social.
"You can't ring them up by putting the device up to your ear but in general I think they've got most of the capabilities that you'd find in a smart phone, with some unique capabilities that make them stand out."

August 27th, 2011, 00:03 Posted By: wraggster
Sony's Jack Buser believes the redesign of PlayStation Home will kick-start the growth of free-to-play business models on consoles.
In an interview with IndustryGamers, the PlayStation Home director explained that many of the games planned for therevamped service will use the sort of monetisation methods commonly found on the web and social networks.
"Many of the games are free-to-play or freemium," he said. "You can beat the whole game if you want and never spend a dime, but we will sell weapon upgrades, armour upgrades, enhancements, etc., as a series of micro-transactions."
The advantage of Home is that it can also leverage the power of the PlayStation 3 hardware to offer more complex and immersive games than those normally associated with free-to-play.
"It's using the most cutting edge and creative business models that so many sessions at GDC are all about, while also giving a gameplay experience that's very much PlayStation - high definition, 3D, online multiplayer, action packed."
So far, Microsoft and Nintendo have failed to show enthusiasm for bringing free-to-play games to their consoles, and Buser sees Home as an opportunity for Sony to break new ground.
"I believe it's going to be viewed as a turning point in the industry where we finally started to see these business models from the web actually take hold on consoles," he said.
"It's a huge differentiator for the PlayStation 3. You could not build these types of games on other consoles because they don't have a platform like Home."
Home also offers a solution to the rising cost of development on console platforms. Buser claims that a team of 6 to 10 people can build a "full-on game that looks like a console game" using Lua programming language in around 6 months.
"And it's monetizing immediately," he adds.
"I'm a big games historian and read lots of books on game history. If you fast forward 10 years, it is my personal belief that games will look a lot more like what's going on in PlayStation Home than what they typically look like today."
Home currently has 23 million registered users. The redesign will launch this autumn.

An entry into this years Neoflash Coding Contest, heres the full details:
HI GUYS! Last minute entry!
This is my game for the Neo Flash Coding Contest. It is called Spacial Warfare BETA.
I guess you can describe it as a sort of 3d Galaga (Not exactly).
What happens is, there is 3 levels of depth. You can maneuver up and down between these levels in your Space Ship. Enemies will fly at you and you must shoot them. If they touch you, then you lose 10 health. Once you have survived for 200 time then you will be tooken to the Shop. In the Shop you can buy either 5 mega Bullets, A string gun (It creates a string of bullets that are released when you stop holding the fire button), or an engine upgrade. I will be adding more upgrades as time progresses.
Button Map:
Dpad right-Move right
Dpad left-Move left
Dpad up-Go down a level
Dpad down-Go up a level
cross-Fire
L-Shoot mega Bullets (if you have some)
Screen Shots:
I don't have some. I have a good excuse though .
I would like to mention that I programmed this game 100% in a van ride. It took me more then 20 hour of work (on programming alone). I was able to stay in a hotel though, in which i got this wifi connection that i am submitting this. Also I am on a cheap 2gb Flashdrive Netbook (EEE Pc 2g surf) So i can't really upload images and i am lucky to be able to upload my game O_o
ALSO I am VERY SORRY FOR NEOFLASH LOGO HAVE BAD QUALITY!!!! I can't help it!!! I am on this cheap netbook and i don't have a image editor. So i have to add it in the only way i can! as soon as i get access to another PC I will fix this and reupload it.

Hey guys. Been meaning to post this for a while now!
As you may have seen my site retroemu.com is no more. As I now work full time developing IOS/Android apps and games I no longer have enough free time to develop PSP games/apps/ports.
I would like to thank you all for the kindness and support you showed me throughout the good times, like Wolf3D, Snes9x Euphoria and LuaPlayer Euphoria and if anyone wants to continue those feel free to do so. (Code is all available via google code)
Who knows, maybe when the PSVita is out and hacked I may get the urge to return, but as it stands I simply don't have enough time in the day to even contemplate PSP development.
So thanks again for everything and best wishes to all!
If you would like to follow my progress my site is : www.infuseddreams.com there is also a forum that is unfinished but usable www.infuseddreams.com/forums if you would like to pop in.
Thanks and farewell!

Description
This is a music player for the Sony PSP powered by
FFMpeg which means you can play all audio codecs from any
container format supported by ffmpeg(http://ffmpeg.org/general.html).
This also makes use of the PSP's hardware decoders for
some codecs.
Changelog
r2
*fixed crash when opening some files(unaligned access in ffmpeg)
*update to ffmpeg 0.8.2
r1
Initial release
Notes
Since this is an initial release, program is expected to be buggy,
only stereo signed 16bit audio with the ff. sample rates
will play correctly:
48000, 44100, 32000, 24000, 22050, 16000, 12000, 11050, 8000
and only MP3, WMAv2(only from *.wma files) and
AAC(except from *.aac files) are hardware accelerated.
Since FFMpeg supports a lot of container formats and codecs,
I do not have the time to test if all of it works correctly.
I have only tested the ff.: codec(file extension)
MP3(mp3, flv)
AAC(aac, mp4, m4a)
WMAv2(wma)
FLAC(flac)
signed 16bit PCM(wav)
For now, a black box is shown in place of the album art.
Album art will be shown in the next release.

Dpad Down = next item
Dpad Left = page up
Dpad Right = page down

Square = refresh current directory
Select = go to now playing
Now Playing:
OK = toggle pause
Cancel = return to file browser

Configuration
configuration files are inside the "ini" folder

News via http://wololo.net/wagic/2011/08/25/c...compatibility/
As I mentioned yesterday, developer VF was hard at work to port the kernel exploit used in some1′s downgrader into pro CFW, to give the CFW experience back to 6.60 users. Less than 2 weeks after the official Sony release, we have a compatible LCFW, I think the scene is breaking a record here.
So yeah, that’s it, you can safely update to 6.60 now, and install Pro CFW on it. 6.20, 6.35, and 6.39 users haven’t been forgotten, Pro CFW is still compatible with these firmwares, and adds a bunch of bug fixes, as well as my personal favorite: UMD video support on the PSP Go (obviously, we’re talking of iso images here…).

Are you one of the poor souls who upgraded to 6.60, before realizing you were stuck in a dark place that doesn’t allow you to run a Custom Firmware? Well you’re lucky, it’s rare that a downgrader is available that soon after an Official Firmware release. Some1 is at it again, and updated the 6.xx downgrader to support Firmware 6.60. So you can now downgrade from 6.60 to any firmware you want (provided your motherboard allow it, but don’t panic, the downgrader will let you know). Most users will probably want to downgrade to the closest firmware, 6.39, in order to install Pro CFW.It seems Davee, Proxima, and Zecoxao were also directly involved in this release, so many thanks to them for their continuous involvement in the PSP scene.
Was this release too early and a “waste” of a Kernel exploit considering the upcoming launch of the PSP Street? Only time will tell. In the meantime, you can download the Downgrader here.

More zombie hordes are on their way to Home, but not before the service goes offline tomorrow for maintenance.
EU users won't be able to log into the service from 8am BST tomorrow, when it will go down for an unspecified duration. But once it comes back online, Sony says a zombie attack will be imminent.
"We have unconfirmed reports of a second wave of zombies ravaging the once peaceful island resort of Banoi this week as the undead virus continues to thrive," says the PS Blog. "It is as yet unknown how far the virus has spread throughout PlayStation Home and authorities advise stocking up on the weaponry now available at the local store before leaving the area."
Elsewhere in the update, you'll find a new Sodium-themed Silicon Lounge in the Lockwood Publishing store, new Alice Cooper items in the AAA store, paintball outfits and more.
Hit up the PS Blog (link below) for loads more info on that. But don't expect anything on Sony's EU plans for the Home overhaul it announced for US earlier this week. That update goes sadly unmentioned.

Motion control and glasses-free 3D screens aren’t a good fit, according to SCEE senior group studio director Mick Hocking, who has been explaining the reasons PlayStation Vita won’t support 3D. “At the time we were looking at Vita, there were several issues,” he told GameSpot. “One was the quality of the glasses-free 3D screens. It can work very well on small screens, but to get the best effect, you need to keep your head very, very still. Now with a handheld gaming device and Vita having Sixaxis motion control in it, there may be gameplay where you're moving the Vita around. And if you're doing that and having glasses-free 3D, the two things don't sit very well together. We wanted to offer a really, really high-resolution OLED screen, and the best way to do that was in 2D. At least for the first one.” Asked if slow early 3DS sales were an indication that gamers aren’t embracing 3D, Hocking added: “I wouldn't comment directly on 3DS, but I think what we've seen over the last 12 months is a strong correlation between good-quality 3D content and great response from our fan base. The opposite is also true. When people see 3D that doesn't work very well, or content that isn't very compelling, I think quite naturally they're not as interested in it.”http://www.next-gen.biz/news/sony-vi...iority-over-3d

It’s a weird world we live in where a person has to explicitly say they’re not commenting on a rival’s device before they’re able to comment on a rival’s device.
Nonetheless, SCEE’s senior studio director Mick Hocking did exactly that when asked about the early struggles of the 3DS.
“So I wouldn't comment directly on 3DS,” he told GameSpot before continuing to do so. “But I think what we've seen over the last 12 months is a strong correlation between good-quality 3D content and great response from our fan base.
“The opposite is also true. When people see 3D that doesn't work very well, or content that isn't very compelling, I think quite naturally they're not as interested in it.”
Indeed, Hocking argues that 3D and portable gaming simply aren’t good bedfellows – hence the decision not to include the tech in PlayStation Vita.
“At the time we were looking at Vita, there were several issues. One was the quality of the glasses-free 3D screens,” he added. “It can work very well on small screens, but to get the best effect, you need to keep your head very, very still.
“Now with a handheld gaming device and Vita having Sixaxis motion control in it, there may be gameplay where you're moving the Vita around. And if you're doing that and having glasses-free 3D, the two things don't sit very well together. We wanted to offer a really, really high-resolution OLED screen, and the best way to do that was in 2D. At least for the first one.”

Sony updated PlayStation Home in the spring of this year, and gave its virtual world multiplayer support and better graphics. Evidently that update wasn't quite what Sony wanted, so the company will roll out a complete redesign of the community this autumn to make it easier for folks to connect with desired content. The revamped Home lets users find games by exploring several themed districts (Action, Adventure, Sportswalk and Pier Park) with their digital doppelgängers. Sony's saying the changes will make PlayStation Home itself a game, so maybe it's time for Second Life to start shaking in its boots. Denizens of Sony's digital world can get more details in the PR below.http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/sony-redesigns-playstation-home-makes-it-the-game-outside-the-g/

Sony will reposition PlayStation Home as a hub for social games, VentureBeat reports.
The process will be led by a redesign this autumn, which will introduce new features and areas to help users find games and facilitate play.
"This is a giant leap in the evolution of the platform," said PlayStation Home director Jack Buser. "We are going to 'up level' games as the heart of PlayStation Home. This means that Home itself is going to become a game. The first things you see when you get into Home are games."
When it launched in 2008 Home was positioned as a virtual world, but the rise of social networks and social games since then has prompted Sony to rethink its strategy.
The central plaza will be replaced by an area called The Hub, where users can check an activity board to for missions in MMO-style "meta-games" that take place within Home. Users will also be able to create custom events for their social groups.
Outside of The Hub, Home will now have themed areas for different game styles and genres. These will include Sportswalk, the Adventure District, and the Action District.
Sony will also update its core client to provide a more streamlined experience, with separate tracks for new, returning and regular users.
Buser claims that 23 million PlayStation 3 owners are currently registered in Home, with the average visit lasting around 70 minutes.

Sony DADC has signed collaboration agreements with Cinram and Cert Octavian to operate interim warehouse locations after its Enfield warehouse burned down during the London riots.
Around 80 per cent of Enfield's products are now stored and distributed from Cert Octavian's Hoddesdon site, while the rest will be handled by Cinram in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. All of the Enfield staff will remain employees of DADC.
"Our staff members have been incredibly supportive, often working extended hours to make a fast contingency solution happen as quickly and smoothly as possible," said Darren Houghton, managing director of UK distribution
Sony DADC also reports that effects on customers was limited.
"By utilizing a multi-site approach, it guaranteed that not a single order or EDI (= Electronic Data Interchange) was lost, and all IT systems and services were up and running and not affected by the fires," explained Houghton.
The fire on August 8 destroyed property worth in excess of £30 million. The site handled distribution of Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs.
