Just a quick update on the PS3. It's been confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will not ship with an HDMI cable. After Sony's been talking up how they will be "true HD", and how HDMI will kick component's ass, they now decide they can't spring the $5 for an HDMI cable? Great.

Via IGN
In an interview with Japan's Nikkei BP, Sony Computer Entertainment corporate executive Izumi Kawanishi, who heads up software platform development at the company, shared some unique visions Sony has for the PSP platform in relation to the PlayStation 3. The title of the article tells it all: "PSP will become a Virtual PS3."
Nikkei began by asking Kawanishi to discuss Sony's plans for PlayStation emulation on the PSP, which was first announced at the March PlayStation Meeting. "Just before the PlayStation Meeting," said Kawanishi, "we learned that it was technically possible to emulate the PS1 on the PSP. The emulation technology is original. We're currently doing internal tests, but things are moving quite well."
Kawanishi was mum about specific plans, but did cite some of the difficulties with the emulation project. "Emulating all PSP games would be difficult. The PS1 has left and right analogue sticks and a large number of controller buttons. The PSP has just one analogue stick, and a different number of buttons. There's no power problem with emulation, but there are limitations with the user interface."
Sony actually tried out digital distribution of PlayStation games on the PS2. In Japan, it was possible for a while to download a select few titles to the PS2 hard disk. However, Sony never went ahead with the project. Explained Kawanishi, "The structure for e-Distribution took shape on the PS2, where we wanted to move content distribution from disk media to the network. The broadband environment wasn't set up at the time, so we were unable to realize this."
The times have changed, however. "Now, fiber optic is already spreading," noted Kawanishi. "We felt that there was now an environment where true e-Distribution could be realized, so we made an announcement again in March."
Sony may have some Xbox Live style plans for its e-distribution scheme. "Games for PS3, PSP, PS1 and so-forth will be distributed via the network. While popular series are a separate matter, it's becoming hard to tell what's inside the package of recent games. So, we're thinking of distributing demo versions. In the case of PS1 games, we believe that if we make a library of all games available, similar to what Amazon does for books, there will be many users who want to give the classic titles a try."
To no great surprise, Sony's plans go beyond games. "Distributed content won't be limited just to games," explained Kawanishi. "It will also likely include movies. While we can't get a grasp for how well UMD movie software is selling, there's no question that the world is moving in the direction of network distribution for movies. I've heard that So-Net's Portable TV is performing well."
All this downloadable content brings up a big question: how long will the wait be for such massive files? Kawanishi explained. "The download amount will, put simply, be one CD's worth -- at most 600 Megabytes. PS1 game programs themselves are small, but the music data is recorded to CD tracks. When the music data is added, it's quite large in terms of volume. However, looking at the current state of internet distribution, downloading files of 400M and 500M doesn't take up too much time. This level of volume is in the range of tolerance."
For those who are worried about Sony taking its time to get a network infrastructure in place for the PS3, Kawanishi's next comment should offer some relief. Asked if gamers will be able to use e-Distribution from the day they purchase a PS3, he said, "That's the plan."
But you may not need a PS3 in order to download PS1 content to your PSP. Asked what means you'll have to download content, Kawanishi said, "There will be three: through the PS3, through the PC, or direct download to the PSP via wireless LAN. Our fundamental stance is to use an open network, so PC-based downloads will be possible. And not only that, but we believe things like download through cell phones are also a possibility. We don't plan on placing limits on the network."
Kawanishi also suggested that Sony might allow gamers to play PS1 games through emulation on the PC and, in the future, on a cell phone.
The interview then shifted to linking up the PS3 and PSP. "It's possible to have distribution of video imagery from the PS3 to PSP," said Kawanishi. "In other words, images that are rendered on the PS3 will be sent to the PSP via wireless LAN. If the PS3 is something like a home server that's placed in the center of your home, the PSP is an information terminal that you carry with you."
According to Nikkei, Kawanishi was referring to 3D imagery that's rendered on the PS3 and viewed on the PSP. Is he talking about actual gameplay? That's the big question. IGN will chime in here with the opinion that we wouldn't want to play a high-speed fighting game rendered on the PS3 but running on the PSP, as every button press would suffer from network lag. A slow RPG or strategy game? That's another story!
"PS3 video can be viewed as is on the PSP, so the PSP becomes like a Virtual PS3," continued Kawanishi's explanation. Kawanishi then credited the PS3's Cell CPU with allowing for this unexpected connectivity. "The power of the Cell will be put to use. If you don't have this much power, this cannot be realized."
If the PSP does become a virtual PS3, one might expect that Sony would lose the need to update the PSP hardware. "No, that's not the case," said Kawanishi. "The engineers have the desire to improve things even just a bit."
Kawanishi was then asked to comment on how the PSP will evolve from here. Specifically, Nikkei asked if he feels the system will become an information terminal in the future. "It depends on what the users want," responded Kawanishi. "It already has a Web Browser, and along those lines, schedule management and mailer applications will likely appear. However, it's important that the concept not lose focus. It would be troubling to have it become a machine whose use is unknown."
"The PSP started off clearly with the position of a portable game machine," continued Kawanishi. "However, looking long term, there's the thought that it ought to become a portable network device. At that time, if there's demand for an information terminal, it is possible to take it in that direction."
Could the PSP ever replace your cell phone? "There is a possibility," said Kawanishi. "I won't deny it. Personally, I'm interested in it. Of course, it's not the case that you can connect to wireless LAN everywhere, so you can't call it a permanent connection. But cell phones are permanently connected. Cell phones get more interesting as their data transfer rate increases, and I think it would be extremely interesting to try something like that."
Sony will be demonstrating two new technological sides of the PSP at the Tokyo Game Show in September, where the system's GPS Receiver and camera will be on display. We also hope to see something regarding Sony's PlayStation emulation and e-Distribution programs.

Engadget have done a hands on feature about the PSPs Little brother the Mylo.
Heres an excerpt:
Holy hot damn, we got us a Mylo up in this piece. Yes, unfortunately it's only a late prototype (we haven't actually heard of anyone getting a final production unit yet) but here she is, Sony's ever-hopeful ace in the hole to get a foothold in the pockets of disenfranchised Sidekick 'tweens everywhere (and maybe even some 770 user throwbacks as well).

Downgrader for 2.71 Released
Introduction
Dark_Alex and Mathieulh (Donate to them) have released a new downgrader for PSPs with 2.71 firmware thats only possible due to the recent Tiff Exploit that was found. Once you run and are successful your PSP will be a homebrew friendly v1.5 PSP which can play all Homebrew, Emulators and even the Devhook UMD loader so you'll still be able to play 2.71 games on your v1.5 PSP. All PSP users owe thanks to Bigbird for sacrificing 3 psps, and also to Xairu, wakAwooki (UP chip) and Joshrulez2 (bricked) as well as others for risking their PSPs.
Check out the Video Here
Some History
This isnt the first Downgrader for the PSP, Dark_Alex, Yoshihiro and Mathieulh released the 2.5/2.6 Downdater on July 2nd 2006, and before that was the V2.0 to V1.5 Downgrader which was released back in 2005. Theres also a V1.5 to V1.0 downgrader whch was released July 6th this year.
Whats Downgrading ?
Every PSP has a firmware, if your playing the latest PSP games then most likely you have a PSP 2.71 and if your unlucky the PSP 2.80 firmware. Now for those that dont know the best firmware for homebrew and much more is V1.5 Firmware. All the downgraders can make your machine go back to that firmware so you can enjoy the many thousands of games released for homebrew.
Heres the Release Info
2.71 Downdater by Dark_AleX/Mathieulh/Yoshi
This software is free, unlicensed and comes with no warranty. Despite it has been tested and it has worked, a program that rewrites a big part of the flash(flash0) is always dangerous. You are the only responsable of whatever happens to your psp using this unlicensed program.
This program requires that someone with a 1.50 runs a little program and send you the output so
you can init the downdate process. (by legal reasons i cannot provide those files directly, that's why this is needed).
The 1.50 program is TOTALLY safe, it only dumps the flash of a 1.50 user and it also extracts some special prx's found in the 1.50 updater.
The downdater directory outputted is exactly the same than the created by the 2.60/2.50 downdater.
IMPORTANT NOTE: TA-082 users, this doesn't work on these psp's. DO NOT RUN IT.
Instruction for the 1.50 user
-----------------------------
1) Copy the folders downhelper and downhelper% from the folder 1.50 HELPER folder to
/PSP/GAME/ in your memstick.
2) Obtain the 1.50 updater and put it in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE in your memstick.
Some download links for it:
http://www.psphacks.net/files/PSPFirmwares/1.5/
3) Init the downhelper program.
It will dump your flash and some files from the updater eboot to the memstick.
4) After that, the program will exit. You can now delete the updater from /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
5) You'll notice that you have a new folder in the root of your memstick called "DOWNDATER".
That's the folder you'll have to send to a 2.71 to let him use the downdater.
Instructions for the 2.71 user
-------------------------------
1) Copy the files inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.
2) Wait someone with 1.50 to pass you a folder called DOWNDATER and copy it to the root of your memstick.
3) It is recomended that you have the psp at more than 50% batteery and connected to AC
4) Go to the xmb photo viewer.
At this point will one of the following things:
a) You'll see a full red screen. This indicates that the downdater is doing its job.
Wait for it to finish. When it finish it will crash on purpose. Restart your psp manually
and you'll probably have a 1.50 if nothing went wrong.
b) You don't see the red screen. This indicates that the downdater code has not started
to execute. (even if the memstick blinks(or no), it doesn't matter! if the screen is not red, you can safely restart
the psp at this point).
This happen because of inestability in the tiff.
Don't worry, just restart the psp and keep trying until you reach the red screen of downdate.
The downdater code is NEVER executed partially. It's either executed totally or nothing.
It depends of "luck" but usually the downdater will start to execute in a average of 1/10 times.
Things that may increase the probabilities:
- A fresh formatted memory stick.
- A 32 MB memory stick (and fresh formatted)
Many thanks to:
- People that found and exploited the tif bug: Nopx86, psp250, Skylark, Joek2100, CSwindle, JimP and Fanjita
- hitchhikr for finding the kernel exploit.
- All people that tested code and supported us: jpeg (the first in downgrade!), whackawookie,
nopx86, [Having], tyranog, joshrulez and probably more people that i forgot.
Anti-Credits:
- tesuhack for lying in one test making me loose time and reach incorrect conclusions USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Even though this has been tested there is still the possibility it may damage your PSP. We advise you to follow the steps carefully and cautiously. We are in no way responsible for bricked PSP's.
With that said,

Hi just posting this as my first ever mod for any game on the PSP, I expect some people to like it and some people to hate it (Like Marmite)
CS-PSP is a 2D clone of Counter Strike for the PC & X-Box with a view similar to the first GTA games (Above the player). This game has been created by Nataku92 and I will not take ANY CREDIT what so ever for the games production as all credit goes to that fine coder however I will take 10% credit for this mod
The mod is of the matrix and the level that loads up is very similar to the marble fight room in the first matrix film (See screenshots below). All textures have been edited, the players on both sides consist of Agents Vs Good guys lol and most of the GFX have been changed, I tried changing the font but it is very difficult, I will wait for a later release before I try again, the music has also changed and the eboot background, icon etc are "Unique", just see it for yourself
I hope you enjoy this mod and I hope to bring more out in the future for your gaming pleasure
To install this mod simply extract all contents of the WinZip file to the root of your memory stick.

Press release:
Representatives of the media, retail and distribution gathered at GC in Leipzig, Germany to experience for themselves the latest ground-breaking product from the Xploder team.
Greeted by two HD plasma screens showing a side-by-side comparison of the Xploder HDTV Player versus standard PS2 output, visitors were astounded by the instantly recognisable differences. They were left in no doubt of the visible improvements made by the product - crystal clear graphics, well-proportioned characters, crisp text within on-screen menus, detailed backgrounds, vivid colours and smooth character animation - resulting in dramatically enhanced gameplay.
From driving to fighting, role-play to strategy – almost all games including titles such as Formula One 06, the Godfather, GTA: Liberty City and classic beat-em-ups like Tekken 5 benefit from the improved HD image quality through the HDTV Player (compatible with 90% of all PS2 games). Simply choose your required settings, (480p, 720p, 1080i and numerous VGA modes) position the screen image in the required location and experience games as they were meant to be played.
Xploder HDTV Player is also capable of playing DVDs in High Definition and Enhanced Definition modes.
With consumers still anxious about committing to next generation movie formats, and concerns about the availability and pricing of the PS3, the HDTV Player is a cost-effective alternative for those who want to make the most of their existing HDTV system and current Movie and game collections.
Why wait to play games and DVDs in HD? For just £29.99 / €49.99 / $49.99 you can experience HD quality now! Includes High Quality Component RGB Cable (with composite video adaptor).

News from Gamesindustry
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony spokesperson has dismissed rumours that a new version of the PSP is currently in development.
The rumours emerged following the appearance an article in the US version of PSM magazine, excerpts of which were widely reported (and in some cases misreported) online.
The article predicts the arrival of a new version of the PSP in March, claiming that developers have already "been briefed on Sony's plans". It goes on to say that according to "sources familiar with its development", the new PSP will be "thinner and lighter" than the original model.
But a Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz: "We currently have no plans to release another version of the PSP."
However, the spokesperson did confirm that the new add-ons for the handheld will be a highlight of Sony's line-up at the Tokyo Game Show later this month, stating, "The camera and GPS peripherals will be the main attraction, and a total of 16 titles will be showcased to demonstrate the strong line-up of software that will be released towards the year." These will include GPS-compatible titles such as Everybody's Golf Course and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.
As previously announced, more than 25 PS3 games will be playable at the event, and videos of a further 35 will also be shown. "Of those 35, some will be newly announced titles, and some will be updates of software announced or shown at E3," the spokesperson said.

The most controversially named game of recent years -- Rockstar's Bully -- is in danger of becoming Just Another Game: Rockstar has announced that henceforth, it shall be known as Canis Canem Edit. Except in the US, where it will still be known as Bully.
Which is all rather bizarre. The origin of the new name is easy to describe: Canis Canem Edit (which, Latin-speakers will know, means Dog Eat Dog) is the motto of the fictional Bullworth Academy featured in the game.
Canis Canem Edit doesn't exactly trip off the tongue, and seems to be a wilfully obscure moniker to give the game -- surely a more obvious move would be just to call it Bullworth Academy. And the anti-bullying organisations calling for the game to be banned are hardly going to change their tune just because of a name-change.
Advertisement:The fact that Rockstar has retained the Bully name in the US suggests some reluctance has accompanied Rockstar's adoption of the tag Canis Canem Edit outside this territory. Could some sort of outside agency have influenced the decision? Perhaps they were bullied into it - boom boom!

Capcom has updated its official Devil May Cry 4 website, with a new flash intro showing off the game's updated logo and a countdown timer ticking down to next Friday.
Hopefully - we would presume - this means that we can expect the first solid info and media on the game to arrive next week, as currently we don't have much to go on in terms of gameplay details. However, the new DMC4 website seems to suggest a radical new gameplay addition for Capcom's fourth Dante-slasher, mostly fuelled by the intro message "From that day forth... my arm changed" and the updated logo which appears to show Dante with an unusually pointy-arm, perhaps suggesting that the half-devil man will sport a new bladed-limb in the PS3 instalment.
Still, this is all obviously with the great hat of speculation wrapped firmly around our ears. There's only seven days left to find out if our wild guesses are correct, and hopefully some new media and gameplay info will makes its way onto the net too. Stay tuned.
