RPG colossus Square Enix could be lookign to sell two of its franchises to third-parties; Disney tie-in Kingdom Hearts and much-loved SNES and handheld series Mana.
This is all according to reports emanating from German site GameFront, which offers no details on the supposed sell-off other than that the two role-playing franchises will be flogged in the next few months.
However, the Deutschland publication moots Disney's in-house studio Fall Line as the developer snapping up the Kingdom Hearts rights - which makes sense considering the series is based around Disney characters - while no potential buyer is specified for Mana.
We contacted Square Enix who simply told us that "Square Enix does not comment on rumour or speculation," but we'll keep you updated on any developments in the coming days.

THQ has penned a deal with LLC to publish games based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship brand up to the year 2011.
Watching UFC is a bit like standing outside your local chippy after the pubs have closed and watching the chavs kick each other senseless. It's brutal brawling at its best and not for the faint hearted. It's almost like real wrestling.
Under the terms of the deal, THQ can now create UFC games for all current and next generation consoles, PC and handheld platforms.
The publisher is looking top pack each game with online, downloadable and multiplayer capabilities where it can.

via MaTiAz
MaTiAz has released VSH Rebooter PRX v0.2, a plug-in for PRX devs.
v0.2 also comes with an installer.

Changelog:
* Included an easy installer, which can install the PRX to Network Update or Location Free TV (or both if you like). Read the notes about the installer though.
* The Reboot PRX can now shut down the PSP too, hold L while selecting Network Update -> shutdown
This comes with an installer, Though make sure you check out the installation notes just in case you're relatively new at this and not really sure about what you're doing. To install, just follow these steps:
1. Copy the rbprxinst folder to /psp/game/ like you would with any other homebrew (GAME, not GAME150 or GAME302)
2. Launch the Reboot PRX Installer
3. If you don't know what to do after these steps, you should NOT be using this or trying to install this.
As for warnings, MaTiAz himself states:
This program comes with NO WARRANTY AT ALL, so follow the instructions so you're safe. I'm not responsible for bricks, and I doubt there will be any, except for because of user stupidity (which I doubt will happen either).

While browsing around Sony-Style (*shudders*) I came across the 8gig Pro Duo. As expected, it does indeed have the steep price tag of $300 (approx £152), and is expected to ship in the US on or before February 19, 2007 . 8 GB storage capacity with 7.35 GB available and Minimum write speeds of 15 Mbps2.

In my opinion, the good thing to come from this is the possibility of a price drop in 4 gig sticks, however, Would you be prepared to pay such an amount for the 8 gig produo?
Check the official Sony-Style item description here.

According to Capcom, pre-orders for Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (as the franchise is known in Japan) have already surpassed the 400,000 mark, making the dragon-slaying RPG sequel the most successful PSP game prior to release in Japan.
Appropriately, this ties in nicely with the record set by its predecessor, the engrossing and predictably entitled Monster Hunter Portable (Monster Hunter Freedom in the west), which became the first PSP game to break the 500,000 barrier. Early indications suggest its sequel is likely to easily match that, and in record time, too.
We'll find out soon enough – in Japan, the second Monster Hunter PSP game is due on February 22nd. While it's tempting to put an order in from here, the text-heavy nature of the gameplay means it should really only be imported by those proficient in Japanese.
For everyone else, then, it's waiting time. No date has yet been confirmed for the English version, although the original eventually emerged last May in the UK (after a Japanese December release) so that should give us some indication (Christmas 2007, perhaps?).

Zion's new project is coming along well it seems. After warm reception of his last Zelda fan game (Linkens Quest) Zion is happy to present the world his first trailer of his next game. Try to think of it as the spirtual succesor to Linkens Quest.
Here's what Zion said over at his dev forums here on dcemu.
Note - This game isnt anywhere near finished, and everything contained in it could change in future versions, what is done though is done well , and while it may not be a lot, it shows the promise this game has....
Dont expect to be playing this for hours either i would imagine you would be bored after five minutes.
Consider this a tech demo, sort of like the game concept. Still i hope you will be suprised tho

Looking at data provided by VGCharts.org reveals an unnerving trend: the distressingly low sales of PSP software. One only has to look at Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, which sold 136,500 copies during its first month of sales in the US. While this certainly isn't a low amount, it nearly equals the number of copies sold in Japan ... in its first day of sales. Considering how the PSP has far more systems in distribution in America than Japan, shouldn't this game have sold better?
The PSP system sold pretty well in December, reaching approximately a million units sold. However, the amount of software sold is dwarved by the Nintendo DS. Nintendo's portable sold through more than 5 million software sales. The PSP failed to break 1 million. The five-fold difference in sales doesn't accurately represent the hardware discrepancy: the PSP isn't trailing so drastically, in terms of hardware numbers.
So, why such low PSP software sales during the holiday season? Do you blame homebrew? Or, do you blame PSP's ability to do much more than gaming: certainly, there are people that are buying the system for its other capabilities, such as its video and music playback. Did you buy a PSP game in December?

New information has been revealed about the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics: Lion's War. Balthier, who was also in Final Fantasy XII, will be making a cameo in the game. His role in the game is described (roughly translated by me):
"A liberated man and well-known heretic. Using his abundant knowledge and abilities as an engineer, he seeks the treasures of Glabados. He makes contact with Ramza, who is searching for the Zodiac Stones and Alma." Balthier shares a last name with Mustadio and Besrodio Bunanza, so things could get quite interesting.

Interesting news for the PS2 Homebrew Scene is that CDs can be used on PS3 via this method:
First take the torx bolt out slide the face plate off and remove few phillips screws. Take the metal cover off the top of the bd drive. Then remove the top plastic cover and unplug the sensor. Secure it down with a couple screws. Then cut a circle (with a plastic cutting saw bit) on the top cover. Your face plate now slides back over to allow swapping and still keeping the PS3 looking clean.
Boot the PS2 DVD and wait for it to load. Now hold the PS button and quit the game. Slide your cover back and push down on the disk secure magnet. It will stop the laser, but not the spinning. swap disks and press circle(jp) X to boot your backup.
Tested with 1.10 firmware, swap magic confirmed unplayable with 1.31, but this exploit is unconfirmed with that version of firmware. Swapmagic is only needed for PAL conversion and CD.
Not at all easy but for those who really want emulators and homebrew on the PS3 then heres your chance.
Personally i suggest waiting for a true exploit

As you can see from the map above, Hideo Kojima's plan to launch a secret army in Japan is working quite well. A new service uses Google Maps to show you the points of interest you'll want to hit in order to recruit new characters via Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops' unique and innovative GPS mode. Although an English language version of this service is supposedly "coming soon," I wouldn't be surprised if it never saw the light of day: certainly, it would be a far more demanding undertaking to travel across the entirity of America in order to unlock as many characters as possible.
Of course, the true Metal Gear fans have already started their cross-country trek.

Sony seems to be having a bit of a problem. They have a portable system that is a success, but not by any means their main product. Then they have a new console that desperately needs games any way it can get them. Obviously they need to compete on the high end next gen game front, but they also need to compete against the Virtual Console and Xbox Live Arcade. Without the backlog of games like Nintendo or the head start of Microsoft, they seem to be turning to a questionable source for their downloadable games; the PSP.
The obvious issue with PSP games going to PS3 is that it begins to negate the reasons for a consumer to own both. Sure, right now it's a Gripshift and a Tekken, but what happens if the trend just continues? Sure, this would strengthen the PlayStation Network, but at the cost of PSP exclusives. This is just not acceptable when the PSP still has a long way to go to establish itself.
If Sony does insist on continuing to take games from the PSP library to the PS3, than it needs to change how it does so. Microsoft announced Live Anywhere quite some time ago, but we're still waiting for the day when we can play Xbox Live Arcade games on the go. Part of the reason is that Microsoft doesn't yet have a portable gaming system, but Sony does. Why not have it so if I download Gripshift on the PS3 I can download it to my PSP as well free as charge. For games that require progress, it would be great if I was able to share saves between my PSP and PS3. Maybe this is part of Sony's eventual plans anyway, but until I can buy Tekken on my PSP and continue it on my PS3 or vice-versa, it seems like a missed opportunity.
It could just be that this is a temporary solution and as more developers jump on board the PlayStation Network, Sony will stop relying on PSP games as downloadable content. Even if this is the case though, it still seems like a dangerous road for Sony to travel. It could just be that I'm overreacting though. What do fellow PSP owners think of this development?

Blacksite: Area 51 is the confirmed codename for developer Midway's second extraterrestrial actioner, due to crash-land on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the summer, complete with blinding visuals, superb squad controls and super-smart AI.
Taking its name from a covert military term, this fresh foray into the successful Area 51 universe is aiming for a political-flavoured twist to its alien-based plotline. A 'blacksite' is somewhere the military operates while denying the place actually exists, and also often refers to secret CIA prisons operating outside the law, used to interrogate suspected terrorists.
All this points towards classic B-movie themes like invasions, cover-ups and, of course, lots and lots of grotesque alien invaders. This time around you'll be fighting The Reborn, towering creatures that are the result of flawed human/alien experiments. Take a look at the screen below for a teasing glimpse of these gangly nasties.
With Area 51 destroyed, Blacksite takes place above ground in normal towns and cities surrounding the disaster zone left by the previous game. This mix of wild, unreal beings stalking you through dusty, small town Nevada only heightens the game's world-gone-weird atmosphere. And, while you soak up the mood, your squad of brainbox team-mates can watch your back.
Midway has gone all out in the pursuit of AI reliability. Squad mates have their own personalities, which should enhance your attachment to the poor lads, and convincing voice-work gives you a window into their morale - when things are good they'll be deadly effective but if the situation gets really sticky your buddies will lose combat effectiveness and accuracy.
