Have you ever wondered how many games on the PSP have earned the Achievement of selling more than a million copies? According to data compiled from VG Charts, there are eight games so far that have sold such a mythic amount of copies. As expected, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories tops the charts, with a whopping 3.49 million copies sold! And that's with zero sold in Japan. Taking a look at the charts, it's clear that the Japanese have very different tastes than the Americans. For example, while Star Wars: Battlefront II did surprisingly well here, it was barely noticed in Japan. Monster Hunter Portable, on the other hand, became a million seller almost by itself in Japan.
While the PSP has an impressive share of game sales, it still needs to think of a cross-cultural hit if it's ever to succeed like the Nintendo DS. The rival console has produced 21 million sellers so far, and cross-cultural successes (like Nintendogs and Brain Age) undoubtedly helped a lot.

For the third straight year in a row, the famed creator of the Gran Turismo racing series has made it to Motor Trend's annual top 50 Power List. Yet again, Yamauchi was the only videogame personality to make the list which generally includes automotive industry professionals. Yamauchi entered the list at 27, ahead of Jean Todt (Ferrari CEO) and Takeo Fukui (Honda CEO).
The complete top 50 Power List rankings can be found in the February 2007 issue of Motor Trend which hit newsstands earlier this week. Motor Trend's list ranks key players in the automotive industry based on their influence and impact on the industry in the past year.
Almost 10 years ago, Yamauchi started the Gran Turismo franchise with a team of only four people. Today, he has climbed the ranks at Sony to become the President of Polyphony Digital. The development studio is now comprised of more than 70 members including programmers, designers, and artists. Currently Yamauchi and the rest of the Polyphony team are hard at work preparing for the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3.

Just prior to the break, we reported on a mysterious new PS3 project called Gundam Musou. Kicking off the New Year, Bandai Namco has unveiled full details on this Dynasty Warriors meets Gundam.
In development over at Koei's Omega Force studio, the folks responsible for the Dynasty Warriors series (known as Shin Sangoku Musou in Japan), this latest Gundam title promises to blend the "tactical action" of the Koei series with the vast array of mechs from the classic Bandai robot anime. You take control of a single Mobile Suit unit in a face off against over a thousand rivals.
Screenshots (which can be seen at Japan's Impress Watch) should hint at the similarities with Dynasty Warriors. There's one major difference, though. The X button is used here to make your mech dash, a change that promises to make you feel like you're piloting a futuristic mech rather than controlling a general ripped from the pages of history.
The main mode of play in Gundam Musou is known as the Official Mode. Playing as one of a number of characters, including the original Gundam's hero, Ray Amuro, and even enemy characters, you work through a storyline told from a variety of perspectives, complete with event and movie sequences. The game features elements from the original Gundam, Z Gundam and Gundam ZZ.
Although news of Gundam Musou appeared out of nowhere last year, development has been going on for some time now. Speaking with Impress Watch, the game's producers revealed that Koei first proposed to Bandai Namco the idea of combining Gundam and Dynasty Warriors. This early phase of development took place around a year and a half ago. The game, incidentally, has always been targeted for the PlayStation 3.
This will be the first "Musou" game on the PlayStation 3 -- surprising, sincá the Dynasty Warriors series has been a yearly event on the PS2. We'll get our first taste of next generation Musou (and Gundam too, since the PS3 launch title was so bad that it doesn't count) when Gundam Musou sees Japanese release this Spring.

Although we don't have any hard details of how MotorStorm will play online - that's coming shortly, we promise - at least we can bring you the first pic of what it will look like. Judging from the screens, up to 15 racers can compete simultaneously, with player names displayed above the vehicle. Additionally players can choose from any kind of vehicle, with big rigs going up against quads and cars in what promises to be the multiplayer experience for PS3 come its launch later this year.

Previously, we ran photos of unsold PS3s in Tokyo. To shed more light on the situation, here's a collection of photos taken at retailers in Osaka's Den-Den Town. The area is Osaka's gaming and electronics district, and these pictures were taken at retailers like Sofmap, Big Tiger, Super Potato, a-Too and even 7-11. (Yes, 7-11 in Japan sells video game consoles.) The above pic is from Sofmap, and the sign says the Wii and the DS Lite are sold out; they have PS3 units in stock. A cocktail of high price, bad press and lackluster titles might be driving customers away. Expect sales to pick up as new games start to flesh out the line-up. More photos after the jump, make of them what you will

The Sony brand name took a beating last year over all those burning batteries and the rootkit fallout, right? Wrong, at least according to a recent survey of 2,000 adults who are apparently willing to forgive just about anything ... if you give them the right reason. Other technology companies, most anyway, also fare well in the brand survey. From the article: 'According to the survey, the Sony brand finished a gaudy ninth among the "Top 20 Winners for 2006," sandwiched comfortably between a couple of saintly American icons: Oprah and the National Football League. Moreover, the respondents see Sony climbing to No. 4 among this year's gainers, right above Amazon and eBay. Moral: Build a better PlayStation and the American consumer will forgive all else

Kotaku has a follow-up feature to their earlier look at the declining PS3 market on EBay. Post author Michael Fahey has now gone back and looked at Ebay sales, comparing the PS3 and the Wii. Unlike the sharp dips and spikes the PS3 market has suffered, the price seems to be fairly constant for the Wii console. From the article:
"Considering the small window that the PlayStation 3 auctions had to turn a truly amazing profit, prospectors would have been better off in the long run purchasing a couple of Wiis, which have maintained an average profit margin of 45-50% since preorders became available. Definitely not a windfall, but a much more financially sound investment in the long run. Unfortunately these launches weren't about being sound financially. They were about betting on the big bucks, and the majority of the PS3 prospectors out there played the tables and lost."

Sony bolstered the ranks of games flashing about its American PlayStation 3 Store overnight, giving those of you with import consoles and, er, import credit cards the chance to try the PS3 version of PSP puzzle-racer GripShift.
Not only that, but there's another PSone game for those of you who enjoy downloading them and running off to play them on the PSP. This time it's Jumping Flash, which goes for US$ 5.99. GripShift costs US$ 9.99.

Sega has released a batch of new Virtua Fighter 5 screenshots showing the PS3 version in action, in the wake of recent news that the game will also be coming to Xbox 360.
The hard-hitting fighter is currently scheduled for a spring released on PS3, with the 360 version slated for a latter arrival in the summer. PS3 launch title? We'd be surprised if Sega didn't make it happen.

From PSP-Hacks:
Maniac~ has released “PSP Demo Patcher,” and as the title simply implies, it patches your official PSP demos so they work with any firmware version! Obtain a PSP demo by any means necessary and follow the instructions below:
Place the PSDEMOPATCH and PSDEMOPATCH% folders into your PSP/GAME folder
Place the EBOOTs that you want patched in “ms0:/updpbp/” so that the directory structure looks like this:
ROOT–>UPDPBP–>PSPDEMO1–>EBOOT.PBP
ROOT–>UPDPBP->PSPDEMO2–>EBOOT.PBP
You can patch multiple EBOOTs at one time. Please make sure that the EBOOTs are in their own folders within the updpbp folder
Run PSP Demo Patcher
Straight forward, right? Enjoy! A little pointless if you have 3.03 OE-A, but if you still have 1.5 or you're stuck with 3.02 or lower and you don't want to upgrade since you're waiting for an exploit (there is a demo that needs 3.03), then this may be useful for you

New release from JasonUK, heres the full details:
VERSION 1.1
***
This mod of psardumper so it can decrypt individual firmware modules from all known retail firmwares (1.00-3.03)
Also works with all current game PRXs
CHANGELOG:
1.0 --> 1.1
- Supports sigchecked files if they were signed on the PSP they are being decrypted on
- Can decompress RLZ files
- "sysmem_reboot.prx" is now "sysmem_rlz.prx" as it is used for both reboot.bin extraction and RLZ decompression. For 1.2, I may integrate RLZ decompresion algorithms into the app. If "sysmem_rlz.prx" is not in the 'enc' folder, a red warning will be displayed and RLZ decompression will not be possible.
- Much better error handling. Note: if a file entirely fails to decrypt (e.g. EBOOT.BIN) it will be deleted to prevent memory stick corruption.
- To save space, paths are printed as just the filename, e.g 'audio.prx' instead of 'ms0:/enc/audio.prx' whilst decrypting
INSTRUCTIONS:
Make a folder on your memory stick called "enc" and place your encrypted PRXs there. Then run the app and press X to decrypt them.
The encrypted files will be replaced with decrypted versions.
The app can also extract reboot.bin from a 1.50 loadexec.prx or later.
Just place a DECRYPTED 2.60 or later sysmem.prx in the "ms0:/enc" folder and name it as "sysmem_rlz.prx"
Then place a DECRYPTED copy of loadexec.prx from the firmware you want reboot.bin for, and name it as "loadexec_reboot.prx"
When these two files are detected, an option to obtain reboot.bin (by pressing SQUARE) appears in the application.
LIMITATIONS:
- Cannot decrypt game EBOOT.BIN files. You will get an "unknown tag C0CB167C" error: this is because they use a different encryption. I will see about adding this.

New release from Weltall
This is a new version of cwcheat for pops which finally enables again usb support in pops.
Usb was missing because usb.prx is missing from the reboot process of the pops mode so if you tried to load a cwcheat (or another prx) with usb imports you couldn't get it to load (it was discarded by the kernel).
So in this version i'm offering two more builds with usb support enabled and a readme which explains you how to load usb.prx into your psp in pops mode (i couldn't add usb.prx to the archive for two reason first of all it's different for every psp and second it's illegal distribuiting it)
anyway except this new function there were various fix to reported problems, a new id identifier function, complete support to 303OE also with mc working and with more error reporting and finally a suggestion: put cwcheat bus/cpu mhz to 0 (which is now the default) because the sony psx emulator has a sort of dynamic overclocking which can't work if you set a cpu/bus frequence and with 0 set in cwcheat it's clock management functions are disabled.
Enjoy
0.1.6 REV. F for 3.03OE/POPS
-reworked the id loading function now it *should* work in any case
-now if selected 0 as cpu/bus mhz the clock isn't set and it's left to the sony emulator (SUGGESTED!)
-fixed memory card functions to work on 3.03 Emulator
-NOW USB SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE IN CWCHEAT (READ THE USB SUPPORT README)
-added a little faq in english
-fixed the db save functions
-now the mc loader/saver shows more information and shows if the operation went fine
-other things here and there

News/release from Martek
This is an very easy Plugin for some Features that I used in 2.71SE-C but can't load on 3.03OE.
It does not have a config file yet but I will add it in the next Version.
This are the features in v0.1:
Reboot PSP => HOME+Start
Power Off PSP => HOME+Select
Decrease Brightness => HOME+Left Trigger
Increase Brightness => HOME+Right Trigger
NOTE: Rebooting means just that the PSP is restarting the XMB. It will use the normal PSP Bootscreen eveb if you have configured it to be not shown on startup. This function is good to restart after updateing a PRX module on the memorystick. If you want to go to the Recovery Menu use Power Off and start again.
Installing:
Just copy the seplugins folder to your memorystick root if you don't have any other plugins installed. If you have other plugins just add "ms0:/seplugins/quickpower.prx" (without quotes) to vsh.txt and put my prx module in the same folder.
This plugin is only for 3.03OE but should also work with 3.02OE. I have just tested it under 3.03 so I don't know if it is realy working.

The only way to get a question answered sometimes is to ask directly so if anyone out there has a PS3 and a PS2 Action Replay Max Evo then can you post if it works on the PS3.
Of if you have seen the topic discussed elsewhere so i can gather the information needed.

There's a new PSone game available for purchase on the PlayStation Store: Jumping Flash!, a first-person platformer that has you controlling a rabbit-like robot in a crazed world filled with evil animal-like creatures. With an arsenal of jumps and special weapons at hand, it's your quest to stop the evil scientist Baron Aloha.
The game costs $5.99 and still requires a PLAYSTATION 3.

New release from TheAceofFire:
Heres the details:
Dark Alex's new popstation requires even more data to be passed into the exe. I made this package so that it can do the following:
1. Checks to make sure you have all the dll's installed, installs them if you don't have them.
2. Checks to make sure you have the Hot Shot 2 files correctly named and placed.
3. Displays all ISO's and BIN's, and asks you which one to choose.
4. You can view all inputs before running the program, and redo them if there is a problem.
5. After running, it creates a folder based on the ISO name inside Results, which you can simply move to your (/psp/game) folder.
^_^ Done!
You still require Firmware 3.03 OE A to run this if you decide to compress the iso. I have tested this with FF8, at level 9, and the difference wasn't bad: 699 MB before, 557 MB after, a difference of 142 MB.
