Since Sony reported on Monday that the PS3's SIXAXIS controller had won a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award, the Emmy governing body, NATAS, has issued a statement to confirm that this claim is inaccurate, and the award was in fact given to the Dual Shock controller.
When blogger, Séamus Byrne, contacted NATAS after his disbelief that Nintendo hadn't taken the award for innovations of the Wii Remote, he received a reply confirming: "Sony did not win for their PS3 controller, they won for their Dual Shock Analog controller."
The statement confirms: "The award is from the Video Game Technology Group. It was nominated by our internal group and considered along with the Nintendo D-Pad both of which were considered Emmy worthy for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks."
An innocent mistake on Sony's part, or intentionally misleading information? Sony was not available for comment at the time of writing.

Sony and Relentless Software have revealed the next instalment in the popular Buzz series - The School Quiz, which is (surprise, surprise) geared specifically towards the school market.
Combining vanilla Buzz antics with bespoke Key Stage 2 National Curriculum content, The School Quiz features over 5,000 questions based on all areas of the Key Stage 2 Curriculum, including "ancient Egypt" and "weather".
School Quiz also sports new "teacher features" so that techno-savy school tutors can create their own quizzes and pause, skip and end events as they happen - and then give out merits that you're not really going to write in your diary, but make up at the end of the year so your mum doesn't get angry. Ahem.
Buzz: The School Quiz is currently being prepared for trial in primary schools nationwide, before being released on PS2 presumably this year.

News/release from guitargod1134
Ok sorry for the long wait but I have been busy with school work and yatta yatta. Anyways this release has some big changes so lets get to it
__Changelog__
1. Completely redone code. No code from the old releases was used, I redid it to make it more effecient and stable.
2. There is now a menu instead of pressing different buttons and stuff we now have a menu
3. off course with the menu there is a menu background which i would like to give a thanks to jem
__Installations__
1. Just throw it in the game150 folder. Its not a kxploited eboot because I figure everyone must be on OE or SE so why wasted folders?
__Additional info__
At first yes there was a text reader implemented for tabs. But it did not work very well. So expect that later. Also this weekend im going to rerecord all the strings for the tuner to improve the quality.
If you have any suggestions or ideas tell me here, and maybe Ill add them.
Special thanks to jem for doing all the gfx.
For more info you can check out the heylookatme.txt
Also I tested this and it works 100% on my psp but there is always the chance that I may have uploaded the wrong file or something so if you think something smells fishy tell me so I can fix it.
If someone could upload a screen that would be cool.

News/release by Be3f:
This is the first public Alpha of the Serious Sam: TFE mod for Dungeons (called Serious Dungeons v0.3), which I'm working on.
It is powered by the latest (currently) Charnold's Dungeons v0.7 Engine.
My aim is to make the Serious Sam: The First Encounter clone for the PSP. Dungeons Engine is powerful, but it currently doesn't support some important features to make this mod more likely true SS. So, I'm waiting for the next update...
This is my second mod for Dungeons (you may find Dark Dungeons at the Charnold's site http://www.caweb.de/).
In no way is this to be sold, it is freeware/homebrew.
There are new:
- 5 levels with new textures.
- sounds & music from SS.
- 3 enemies (not Serios Sam enemies yet (aliens from Serius), just Q3 monsters. Maybe, you'll see Mental's aliens in future...)
- 2 weapons (Q3 Rocket Launcher & Q3 Railgun model with the new green skin)
- changed ballanse - enemies have different health (4, 8 and 12) & weapons do different damage (Rocket - 4, Rail - 8). The game is more difficult, then original Dungeons 0.7, but you may select any level from the menu :-)
- some new gfx
- New bootpicture and sound added to the EBOOT
- EBOOTs for the 1.50 firmware

Updated release by MrMr[iCE] of his Snake game for the PSP, heres whats new
This is mostly a bug fix and tweaks to certain aspects of the game. The changes:
Added proper suspend/resume code. app should behave nicely now for those who said it crashed on resume from standby mode. Please test this.
Food spawns much faster now, almost immediately after consuming the last item.
Tweaked the appearance rate of food items, red slowdowns should show up more now.
Snake grows/shrinks very quickly now. Be careful where the tail is when you eat a yellow/blue item
Added a counter to the scoreboard that shows how many segments have been accumulated over time..this is part of the scoring system.
Enhanced the water effect, decreased the dampening some to make the waves more pronounced. The ring effects you saw before are now replaced by drops in the water field
Replaced the default music loop with something not so fast. This is a bigger file tho, so there will be a pause at game startup
The music loop MUST be less that 16777215 bytes. This is a limit in the playback system, the current one is just a little over 14 mb.
heres a video clip of a test (old version of the game):
any ideas are welcome.

Cheater360 posted this news/release:
I just made an app. called Multi Password Boot Protector (v1.0)
I ONLY TESTED THIS ON 3.03 OE!!!
This app makes it so you need a special Memory Stick to turn on your PSP.
Your MS will contain as many passwords as you like and they will have to be found by your PSP as it boots, or the PSP will never start.
If it starts, your PSP will display a custom pic.
There is no way around this boot protector unless somebody has the same passwords on their memory stick.
The passwords are not located in files.
They are located by folder names.
Here is the Lua code as an example:
Code:
background = Image.load("../../../../SYSTEM/BROWSER/pass1/pass2.jpg")
while true do
screen:blit(0,0,background)
screen.flip()
screen.waitVblankStart(100)
os.exit()
end
What this does is tell the PSP simply to open a picture.
But you can tell it to open a pic in any folder you want.
The folders can be named anything...
This is very hard to explain, but once you download it, it will see much easier once you see the system.lua and index.lua files.
The files and folders are hidden, so you have to show them.
There is an optional step to write to the flash for extra security.
Open the file flash0:/vsh/module/vshmain.prx
Edit the line ms0:/PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP to wherever you want the boot folder to be. I just changed the name of the BOOT folder to something else (4 char.).

Art has updated his awsome flash modification tool once again, heres his words of wisdom:
V18i (10/01/07):
Added support for Dark_AleX firmware version 3.03 OE-A' (also known as 3.03 OE-A2).
Removed support for the original 3.03 OE-A release since the second 3.03 OE release features were mainly
bug fixes for the first.
awsome eh?
although this program is very stable, it does write to your flash so use at own risk

Hi all,
Since many people seem to be unable to read the readme in Cintro Mod V 1.0.2 I thought I would post this as news to hopefully reduce the number of bricks occuring.
If you use V 1.0.2 on FW 3.03OE you will brick your PSP! You won't be able to go into the recovery menu.
Reason:
"The 3.02OE-B vshmain.prx in module is different from 3.03OE-A's so the program hex edits values that arent ment to be edited as they are in different places.
aka. brick."
To counter this a new version for 3.02OE - B & 3.03OE- A & 3.03 OE - A2 has been released.
This version should be safe but remember flashing your PSP always has a risk.

Via Psxreality (and crappy translation)
PSXReality.net presents/displays his to you first application for PSP
One is a version (I believe that improved) of the old MSTest created by MIB42 (done from 0, since we only have the EBOOT).
After to see me “timado” by store online, that I am not going to name until they do not answer to me, in which offered a Memory Stick Pair _SONY_ 2GB High Speed (yes the invoice puts SONY) and I arrive a false one… I began to testear my MS with MSTest and felt that the PSP users we needed something more standardized. So I mounted the development surroundings and this it is the result, PSXR-MSTester.
Functionalities
-------------------
- Test in way batch (to execute and ready) standardized.
- Results kept in ms0: /
- Added standard deviation
- Limitation until 20MB of block (it must not more have sense in PSP)
- Graphical Results (with possibility of recording it in ms0: /PSP/PHOTO)
Within rar you have to part of the LEEME, README (I recommend to you to read it before beginning the tests to the crazy person) the images (also published in the forum here) with a comparative one with my memory cards.

Elaborate costumes? Check! Magic seals? Check! Monster battling and androgynous men? Check! Well, according to my checklist Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner is indeed a Japanese RPG. While it sounds similar in title, this game has nothing to do with Capcom's Monster Hunter series. According to RPGamer the game features monster breeding, wi-fi battles and trading, over five hours of voice acting and a soundtrack featuring ten loved RPG composers. The game comes from Cozy Okada of Shin Megami Tensei fame.
For the curious, Gamespot has new screens of this Atlus RPG. If after seeing those screens you're anxious to play it as soon as possible, have no fear. You can get grabbed by the jewlies soon since Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner hits store shelves this February.

EA's Nick Channon spoke to IGN about their upcoming Sony-exclusive Burnout Dominator. If you read through all the hype, you'll see that the PSP version will feature exclusive downloadable levels. We're assuming that, unlike EA's cheat codes, they'll be free.
It appears that the PSP is the target platform of choice for the game, as Channon reveals the extra effort placed into the handheld outing: "We really believe that we will deliver an intense, next-gen style experience, especially on the PSP ... We've also spent a lot of time working on the handling in the PSP version. It will be incredibly responsive even if you use the D-pad."
Burnout Legends was great, and it appears that Dominator will be even better. The game's coming out in March, so until then, all you have is this trailer of the game in motion.

Heres an excerpt
With a next-generation Street game comes a new Gamebreaker. Similar to the Gamebreaker in FIFA Street 2, in Street it is not a canned animation or cutscene. The Gamebreaker in NBA Street Homecourt is in your hands.
We sat down with NBA Street Homecourt producer Todd Batty to get the inside track on the new mechanic and what it means for EA's upcoming streetballer, scheduled to hit the, um, streets this February.

Sid Meier's Pirates! is one of the greatest games ever made, and now it's headed to the PSP. Just as is the case with Civilization or many of the other titles that Sid Meier has been behind, the game constantly causes you to capture "just one more ship" or find "just one more treasure". It's incredibly addictive, and it's open and create-your-own-storyline type of gameplay is still refreshing in this day and age.
Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life is something of a mix between the recent PC update of Pirates! and the accompanying Xbox port. The map size is somewhere in-between, offering plenty of space for exploration while still keeping the world tight
enough for quick travel between areas. It also incorporates the Xbox title's overarching storyline helper - you're still attempting to accomplish the same thing in every version (find your family and such), but the quest meter helps you figure out your next main goal should you choose to stay on the main path.
While some of the game's aspects are taken from the Xbox release, developer Full Fat has brought back a number of the features from the PC game that were lost in the Xbox port, such as treasure hunting. Rather than having your crew automatically find treasure when you hit land if you have the correct map, you'll have to actually explore the land and use your map to find the buried treasure. But in addition, Full Fat has actually expanded on even the PC game in this aspect and added traps and other harmful things to impede your way.
Booby traps lay across the land, and moving across one will cause you to lose one of the men you took to shore. While they're not exactly hidden and are easily noticeable, there may be times when you want to do this as you may have quicker (and perhaps even safer) route to the treasure by sacrificing one of your men. Wildcats scour the land, much like a guard would in an old-school stealth sequence (timed path and all), and should your party be caught by one it'll rip one of your men to shreds.
Sneaking into town is back, though it's a tad different than the PC release. While in said version you were given total control of your character, in the PSP release you move on predefined (though unmarked) squares. This means that you can't hide right behind a corner as you'll either be just down the street or right in the middle of it. It works, but it's a bit strange given the action-centric audience on the PSP.
One thing that's been made a bit simpler is the dancing sequences. Instead of simply following the hand signs of your partner, a DDR-esque symbol bar scrolls across the bottom of the screen so that you can see which moves are coming up. This makes the dancing portions much easier to get into and thusly opens up that part of the game to more players.
While these areas have been changed or enhanced a bit (in mostly good ways, we might add), the rest of the classic Pirates! package is still intact. Should you disobey the pandect of any of the game's nations, they'll turn against you and you'll have to fight against their armadas and become shut out of their towns. Swordfights, ship battles, exploration and everything else that has made the game so great in years past is here and 100% intact.
Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life is set for release in a mere few weeks and we're really psyched to dig in a sail the open sea, and so should you.

Despite persistent games industry speculation that the European PS3 launch may be subject to further delay, online retailer Play.com has told GamesRadar that it has full faith in Sony achieving its March date.
"We're confident that Sony will meet the March release date," Play.com's senior games buyer, Gian Luzio, told us. "There are always scare stories about slippage but Sony has been reliable in the past and until we hear differently from Sony directly we believe a level of stock will be ready for launch."
Meanwhile, during a presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show 2007 in Las Vegas, Peter Dille, vice president of marketing for Sony America (SCEA) also reconfirmed that Sony Europe (SCEE) were still on track, "They're [SCEE] set for March release and looking forward to it," he said.
Furthermore, Sony UK has maintained its stance in a recent phone call, with no new comment issued except a reiteration of David Reeves' "still on schedule" statement originally given in December 2006.
So the month's seemingly set in stone (we reserve the right to retract this at a later date) but what about the actual date?
Currently Sony UK is promising an announcement "before the end of January" but we've heard from other unofficial sources to expect a 30 March release. This seems to fit in a business sense as the new financial year begins on 1 April. A Sony UK spokesperson was, predictably, unable to confirm or deny this speculation.
We'll bring you more news on a confirmed date as soon as we get it.

Imagine Publishing has announced plans to develop its web strategy this year with the launch of a new online shop, magazines and PS3 site.
imagineshop.co.uk will offer visitors the chance to buy back issues of the publisher's magazines, sign up for subscriptions, purchase books and order products such as PhotoShop Creative eMag - an interactive DVD containing 12 issues of the print publication.
Imagine is also launching next3.co.uk, a website designed to offer additional content to readers of the publisher's PlayStation 3 magazine.
"This is just the start of our online drive in 2007 and we will be pushing our online strategy with full force this year," said MD Damian Butt.
He confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that Imagine will continue to produce print publications such as Play, which Butt describes as the company's "flagship title".
However, PSP mag Go Play will now be published exclusively on the web. According to Butt, the decision to move the title online was taken "to make it easier for readers to access content on their PSPs".
