Hi again. You may be wondering why I update this ugly, simplistic GUI still. I mean, there's others out there that basically wipe your bottom for you, so what good is a simplistic one that -- in this release -- has been made even more simplistic?
Simple: because I felt like it
Smiths' Popstation Frontend v1.2.5
------------------------------------
*History
v1.2.5
+ Updated for the heck of it, removing dumb things I didn't like
- No longer auto-searches for SLUS and all that garbage
- Just fill in Disc ID and Title all by yourself
+ Cleaned up usage a bit
+ Include modified popstation.exe with my changes and the CDDA changes
- Credit to those guys at MaxConsole
+ The modify Eboot stuff is still there, but I don't think it's good anymore
- I'll remove that when I'm less lazy
+ Again, this is not an "All-In-One" solution GUI; it's designed simply as a command-line frontend. I put my PNGs in the dir myself, like a big boy.
Popstation source included (GPL makes me able to sleep at night, how about you?).
Overwrite your popstation.exe with the one in the zip for CDDA/Custom Disc ID support all-in-one.

SHADOWZ has released a Flash Free cIntro mod for CF 3.00. cIntro allows us to run PMF videos at the startup of custom firmwares.
This version is meant for firmware 3.00 owners, and will do away with having to flash your unit or editing its config.txt.
* download the original copy of cIntro
* Ok the original instructions call for the modification of the config.txt located in the SYSTEM folder. This used to be used for the custom firmwares like 1.5, but not the 3.00 and above ones. So instead...
* Copy the INTRO folder found in the .rar file you download and put it into the SYSTEM folder in your psp's memory stick.
* Now you need to copy the same folder to whatever folder you have defaulted for running 1.5 kernel (for me this is simply the GAME folder but you need to consult your recovery mode to see what yours is).
* Next you need to rename the folder that u copied to GAME (or whatever) to BOOT and then open it and delete the "intro" file (this is not necessary and basically taking up space).
* Now that this is done, go to your SYSTEM folder and open up the INTRO folder that you just copied there. You will see the exact same files as the one you placed in the GAME folder. This is where you place your .pmf file that you want to use for the coldboot movie. Rename it "intro" and overwrite the current one. Now the hard part is over.
* Cold start your psp and enter recovery mode. You need to enable auto run program.
View the README for the full details, which includes a how-to for the 3.03 OE-A' and 3.03 OE-B firmwares needed to get started.

I have created a site for downloading PSXPSP manuals and will be adding one-two manuals a day for the next several weeks. Hopefully it will soon have all the popular manuals. The site is www.PSXPSPManuals.com
If you have any manuals you'd like to see on the site, please post in the forum there or reply here. So far I have:
Chrono Cross
Dragon Warrior VII
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Resident Evil Director's Cut (per request)
Vagrant Story
If this makes it to the front page news, please put a link to the website, but not to the files themselves. The files may change and I will be adding new manuals regularly.
Thanks and happy gaming.

Updated release from Moneytoo
Heres the details:
Hello everybody
There were some annoying things for me in PMP Mod AVC. Through my poor PSP programming experiences, I did some changes. The most important imo was the time and battery display in PMP (have no wrist watch and dont use irShell :-) ) and some subtitle stuff. Feel free to use if you like it. Never mind if you dont. :-)
Analogue stick in filelist:
- up/down = up/down
- left = exit
- right = play
Headphones/remote control in filelist:
- forward = down
- back = up
- play/pause = play
Thumbnails are .png files with resolution 96x54 px. They can be created on pc and correctly named (movie.pmp, movie.png...) but when .pos file are generated, png will be overwritten by new screenshot.
to-do/plans/ideas:
- better interface (gui), graphics
- analogue pad/remote control support during video play
- directory support in filelist
- (playlist)
- ((hybrid pmp/pmp avc))
- ...some more sleep :-)
Verison 1.02M-H (14.01.07) tuned by madruscoe:
- fixed subtitles (.srt) disappeared after 30 minutes of playing (thank you bootsector)
- added thumbnail support (thanks to JasonV and his Mod)
- added support for headphones/remote control and analogue pad in filelist
- new graphics by MAK

With all of hype & anticipation over now regarding the next generation consoles, where does the PS2 fit in?
With the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 & Sony PS3 all released now, does the PS2 still warrant a purchase?
With the price for a new one being sold at 150 Euro's and having a huge games catalog available, would some gamers go for a PS2 before a next gen system?
For an extra 100 Euro's a gamer could go out and get a Nintendo Wii + Wii Sports and have a next generation system.
But with popular games like Buzz, Singstar & Guitar Hero, the PS2 still has some family appeal, and also appeals to older and younger gamers alike, especially with games like Bully to entertain.
Previous generation console owners, would you buy a PS2 over a next gen console?

Rally Cross was just added to the Playstation Store and you can download it to your PSP through your PS3. Don't have a PS3? Well like a Sony exec, I'll tell you to go find a friend who has one and use them for it.
Rally Cross goes for the usual price of $5.99, Sony operators are standing by!

Gamestop and EB Games is offering $100 off the purchase of a PS3 by handing over your PS2. The PS3 does play PS2 games, albeit a little jagged, so getting $100 off for trading it in could be construed as a good deal -- especially if you're part of the PS2 sporadic "disc read error" crew. This advertisement and deal is one the first true signs that retailers have stock and want those systems out the door.
We now wait to see if any other retailers begin offering deals to move PS3s. Stores aren't making very much money off of the systems, so moving those puppies out is top priority. The real profit exists in getting customers to buy games and accessories.
So, while the retailer gets rid of their stacks of immovable PS3 consoles with this deal, they also get your old friend who certainly will sell. This deal means Gamestop gets your $400 - $500 from the PS3 purchase, plus whatever accessories and games go with the sale, and then they will sell the traded-in PS2 for another $100 to someone not ready to upgrade. Ding, they break even or profit, and everyone walks away happy.

new release via xmOD
We've all forgotten our passwords to some random email account, or locker, or safe, or...the list goes on and on. And while we can't blame password protectors for doing their job well (heck we've seen enough PSP thefts, yes?), this also entails the hassles of retrieving your password in cases when you've forgotten them.
Now, thanks to xmOD, we can easily retrieve our passwords by using his nifty app, PSP Password Retriever. So no longer do you have to restore the default settings of your PSP just to reset the password, just use this app and voila, thy password shall reveal itself. To install, just follow these steps:
* Install PSP Pass Retriever by copying the 2 folders to GAME or GAME150, whichever is your 1.50 homebrew folder.
* Execute PSP Pass Retriever from the XMB and press X after reading the notice.
* The PSP's password will be displayed in front of you!
And in case you're wondering, xmOD assures us that there is NO way that his app can brick your PSP. So go on, just click on the download link and you're all set

Wedbush-Morgan analyst Michael Pachter decided to kiss and make up with Take-Two interactive about previous statements that there would be no Bully sequel. Seriously, props to Pachter for eating crow and admitting his crystal ball was on the fritz.
"I have been consistently wrong about this title," said Pachter. He admits to being wrong about all his negative predictions about the game relating to fun factor, reviews and sales. Bully received solid reviews and rallied in the fourth quarter selling over a million copies. But, because he is an analyst, Pachter gazed back into the crystal ball and said, "It's premature to guess how much a sequel [to Bully] would cost, but if the compnay thinks it can sell two million units of Bully 2, it will probably produce a sequel." Oh Pachter, you had us at I'm sorry, don't ruin the moment.

xmOD has released PSP SysMon VO.1
So what does this do? Basically this application lets you check PSP's battery life, displaying the life percentage as well as the time remaining and will display wireless information. Also included is a USB connector, enabling you to connect your PSP to your PC via USB without using the menu from the XMB.
First thing you might think is "Nothing new, Ir shell amongst other things can do the same", but one feature you won't find in every applciation is the WiFi testing function. As the developer xmOD said - SysMon was created with a view to learn about the standard functions that lua offers while creating something useful.
So hopefully we will see more from xmOD and see what he comes up with next.

Got my PS3 today. Decided to try and compile pygame for Yellow Dog Linux since well… it should work. It did
Compiling all of the dependencies and the pygame made it possible for me to run stuff at decent speed. Its not exactly fast, but absolutely fast enough to develop graphical user interfaces and small games.
Since python is such a high level language you are of course limited to a single SPE, which isn’t very nice, but well… it works
If people want me to I can write a guide for compiling pygame for PS3, but it’s pretty much the same as compiling it for any other platform… Simply install all dependencies for SDL, then SDL and SDL_mixer, SDL_image and so on and top it all of with pygame.

Earlier today, EBgames listed a SKU and release date for a PlayStation 3 version of Volition and THQ's Saints Row. As you can see by visiting the original URL for the PS3 Saints Row page, that data base entry has since been removed (just as 1UP predicted). They just can't find what we're looking for!
You know what that means: it's definitely coming. And that shouldn't come as a surprise to almost anyone. With no "Only For Xbox 360" branding and THQ's desire to actually make money, it only makes sense to port the action adventure title to Sony's console.
We'll obviously let you know when THQ formally announces the game's existence.

After Crecente posted about Nyko's announcement that their PS3 Play Adaptor allowing Guitar Hero controllers to be used on the new console, I immediately went into doubt mode. I even questioned Crecente's ability to read press releases, as I'd heard in November from a Red Octane rep that there was no workaround for getting your current guitar controllers to work on the PS3.
Fortunately, I was wrong. I stopped by the Nyko suite yesterday at CES to get it from the source. Unfortunately, no working demo was available for me (of little faith) to try out, but the Nyko marketing dudes confirmed it flat out. Yes, the Nyko Play Adaptor will let you use your guitar controllers on the PlayStation 3, courtesy of a magical little toggle switch that solves the current hardware and software issues that are keeping thousands of PlayStation 2s still hooked up.

new release via Dark_Alex
his plugin is to load 3.02 psx emulator in 3.03 OE.
Although a lot of games work better in 3.03 emulator than in 3.02, in some cases
it is the contrary, so you may want to load 3.02 psx emulator in certain cases.
Instructions:
- Copy seplugins to the root of your memory stick.
- Using some of the latest psardumpers, extract the 3.02 firmware with the option of the button X.
- Once done, copy the following files from /F0/kd to /seplugins/pops302: meaudio.prx, mesg_led.prx,
pops.prx and popsman.prx.
- Enter in recovery menu, and enable pops302ld.prx plugin if you want to load 3.02 emulator.
- Run the game. It will run with 3.02 psx emulator.
- Whenever you want to use again the 3.03 emulator, just disable the plugin from recovery menu.
Known problems:
* During tests i tried castlevania sotn compressed. During the game i noticed anormal high activity
in the memory stick (note: the fact that the prx's are in memory stick is not related to this issue,
since they are quickly loaded to ram).
It didn't happen with the game not compressed (and it doesn't happen in 3.03 compressed).
I don't know if this issue affects other games.
In such a case, it may be a problem of the mixing of modules, or maybe just a 3.02 problem.
If you experience that problem, you may want to use uncompressed games if it slowdowns the game.
