Dark AleX has posted that he hopes to commence work on 3.03OEA custom Firmware soon and will be finished within a day! (Provided there are no problems I guess)
The following is taken from a post regarding psx2psp V 0.6
"There is a problem with the application.
The iso header offset currently MUST BE 0x50000, since one of the functions of popcorn that replaces a popsman function (to allow decrpted headers) will search the postheader at 0x50400, where are data needed by pops.prx.
I've seen than the appplication does not always generate the data there, and this could cause the generated pbp not to work properly.
In fact, this was one of the reasons of popstation to not allow big images.
Anyways this will be fixed in popcorn.prx of 3.03 OE-A by searching the iso offset in the pbp header, but currently in 3.02OE-B, isos whose header are not at 0x50000 cannot be guaranteed to work.
In fact they could work depending of the luck of the values of the data that are at offset 0x50400+.
No need to change nothing in the app anyways, since i may start working in 3.03 OE tomorrow, and it should be ready next day."
Looks like the next release will support psx compressed ISO's! (Thanks jak66)

Channel 4 Radio has signed a new deal with wi-fi network operator The Cloud to offer news, music and Celebrity Big Brother updates to PlayStation Portable owners.
From today, users can sign up for a free two month trial which allows them to download 4Radio podcasts via The Cloud's network of 7500 wi-fi hotspots. On connecting to the PSP's Internet browser, users will automatically be directed to the landing page where they can click through to a Cloud/4Radio portal.
Available content will include Morning News, SlashMusic and highlights from the new series of Celebrity Big Brother, which begins tonight.
"Making 4Radio's content available on demand, on the go through The Cloud's WiFi network enables us to target listeners who want bold and mischievous radio programming but don't have time to tune in before they leave the house," commented Nathalie Schwarz, director of Channel 4 Radio.
"For the digitally savvy generation too much radio programming feels tired and formulaic. Becoming the first broadcaster to make radio content available wirelessly on PSPs will help 4Radio connect with a young, mobile audience making our programming easily available whenever and wherever they want."
According to some reports, Channel 4 also plans to make its TV programming available via PSP in the future. A spokesperson for the channel told GamesIndustry.biz that nothing has been confirmed so far, but did add, "This demonstrates our absolute conviction about the need to make our distinctive, high-quality content available to our audience wherever, whenever and on whatever device they want to watch it."

When Toyota, a company known for incredibly reliable if somewhat bland cars, comes out with a stylish new concept, it’s a big deal. It’s an even bigger one when company execs hint that the car, if built, would be the successor to the much-missed Supra.

GamersReports has posted a workaround for PlayStation 3 owners eager to download Tekken 5.
Unless you're living in Hong Kong or Japan you're forced to wait until Sony gets around to releasing Tekken 5 in other territories ... or you could cheat the system. This trick is relatively simple, if not inherently dishonest:
Create a new user (not sub-user)
When entering the credit card info, pick Hong Kong as country, and then a corresponding city
After account is created, select 'Add Funds' (a sub-option within 'Account Management')
Add $40 (Hong Kong dollars) to your 'Wallet' twice (total should now be 80 HKD); never add more than $50 in one transaction, as this will prompt a validation of the address registered with the credit card
Now go to the PlayStation Store and select Tekken 5
Opt to add more funds (bringing Wallet total to 125 HKD)
Purchase and download Tekken 5
Sony is no doubt taking measures to lock out this workaround as you read this. Act now if you must. Our advice: sit patient and wait for the official worldwide releases.

Keen eyes have spotted this careless passage published in the PlayStation 3 version of the NBA 2K7 instruction booklet: "Once you start feeling your heart rate pumping (via controller vibration), you'll be ready to begin! Shooting free throws in 24/7: NEXT is just like shooting free throws in a normal quick game" (page 15). The rumble citation is an amusing relic of pre-Sixaxis days when the manual's authors must have assumed (or were told) the final PS3 controller would feature a standard vibration function. Guess 2K Games didn't bother to hire a knowledgeable copy editor.
Please, let's not assume this means PS3 games have 'hidden' vibration features. A typo's a typo. And PS3 launch titles won't be a'rumblin.

Despite Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all having released their new games consoles, analysts surprisingly still back the PS2 to sell more than any other console in 2007 according to a report on businessweek.com.
In reference to the year ahead, Chief operating officer at Sega, Simon Jeffrey, speculates that the PS2 "probably has the capacity to sell more than any other gaming console", touting it to even outsell the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Pachter, an analyst at LA-based Wedbush Morgan Securities says: "The PS2 will have legs well into 2008", which is testament to the success of the console considering its competitors, the GameCube and Xbox consoles, have seemingly already died a sudden death.
We would speculate that the PS2's capacity to outsell it successor could partly be attributed to the limited availability of the PS3, with the same article reporting that, according to rating agency, Standard and Poor's, Sony will ship around 11 million PS2s compared to 7 million PS3s in the year commencing April 2007.
And with the fairly hefty price tag attached to the PS3, it is not yet going to appeal to the mighty mainstream audience that the comparatively cheap PS2 does.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, Splinter Cell Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas are three of five titles that Ubisoft will have out for PS3's launch in the UK and Europe in March, according to the publisher's latest release schedule.
Arcade flight combat game Blazing Angels and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion also join the line-up.
'But what about original games?' you cry. Well, yes, but at the least Double Agent on PS3 features additional content in the shape of extra multiplayer maps. It was recently rumoured too that the game may well support the PS3 controller's tilt functionality in some way.

News/release from Xfactor:
Wow, lots of new features since my ast... "release." There's now a full-on story mode and a deathmatch mode that isn't completely pointless! There's also been a slight update on the graphics (in addition to the new graphics for story mode). In story mode, after finishing a whole level, the game will automatically save and you can start again on the latest level you were at when you stopped playing. There is only one save file though so don't start a new game unless you want to overwrite your progress. Also, once you finish story mode
there's a special unlockable for deathmatch. I decided to remove user saving/loading and music playback as autosaves are easier to manage than in-game saves and music playback can be easily accomplished with iRShell. There's still no in-game music, which is of course disappointing... Anyway, have fun and I hope you like this release. Enjoy!

News/release from daaa57150
I'm working on a game project since some time now and as I find it already entertaining I decided to release an alpha version.
My game is a variant of the "President" card game and I decided to write it in LUA. It uses the LuaPlayer 0.16, but you don't have to care as everything is in the zip file, just put everything at the usual place. This is a FW1.5 version, I don't know for other people, sorry.
With last version you can do anything I wanted except saving, there is no menu for the preferences.
Opponents are quite intelligent, except at the end of the game as I did not implement specific cases for that as of now. But they are good enough so that it won't be annoying, mainly if you are learning the rules.
There is also a "stupid" AI in the game but for the moment it is not selectable. For more details about the rules, see the file called "help.txt".

Now that 2007 has started, there's a whole lot of potential for the PSP. In similar fashion to last year, I'll give you five PSP predictions, but be warned: these are far more daring than last year's incredibly accurate predictions. Feel free to disagree with me, or give your own predictions in the comments section.
PSP Prediction #1: Sony will introduce a new portable addition to the PlayStation brand.
And it won't be a PSP redesign. In many ways, it will be exactly the same as the PSP: it will feature an upgradeable XMB that features Photos, Music and Videos. It will even be compatible with PSP accessories, such as the headset, GPS, and camera. Heck, it'll even play UMD movies. However, there's one thing it won't do: play games. The device will be set as a competitor to the iPod and will feature a portable hard drive. It'll be smaller than a PSP, feature a video-out, and will be compatible with a revamped PlayStation Store (see prediction #2).
PSP Prediction #2: Revamped PlayStation store features movies and music.
The Connect brand will be abandoned as Sony moves its digital distribution ambitions to the PlayStation Store. PS3 owners will be able to download HD movies directly to their systems. The 1080P downloads will also include free access to PSP-formatted versions of the film as an added value. The PlayStation Store will expand to the PC (but not the Mac), and will offer games, movies, and music for all of Sony's gaming and non-gaming platforms. With unrestricted access to Columbia Pictures, and a large audience of media-hungry PS3 and PSP owners, the PlayStation Store will be successful (a very distant second next to Apple's iTunes Store).
PSP Prediction #3: A popular Microsoft franchise will appear on PSP.
Although there are rumors that Microsoft plans to transform Zune into a gaming device, I think Microsoft will skip this generation's battle and support the PSP with one title from its library (which includes franchises like Halo, Gears of War, MechAssault). They've already allowed Majesco and THQ to publish multiple DS & GBA games, such as Age of Empires.
PSP Prediction #4: A future firmware upgrade will boost PSP speed to 333MHz.
Sony will finally unlock the PSP's full technical potential by allowing developers to use all 333HMz of PSP's processing power (the system currently is limited to 222MHz). Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Stories will be among the first games released to take advantage of the upgrade.
PSP Prediction #5: Expect tons of established franchises & far less original IPs.
Okay, I wanted at least one sure-thing on this list. The PSP hasn't launched too many original IPs in its two-year life span. Publishers will look at sales and will continue to bring ports, remakes, and sequels to their established franchises. We'll see some of these announced or released throughout the year: Soul Calibur, Resident Evil, and yes, another Metal Gear Solid.
Agree or disagree, answer via comments

We're quite aware that all of you aren't RPG fanatics, but that's okay. The Sony consoles became reigning champion of the RPG genre after the SNES drifted off to a tender sleep (but still gets woken up every so often by classic enthusiasts), so for that reason, it's important to hear what the developers of a "crutch" genre have to say about this coming year. Crutch genre, meaning that it's one of the major selling points of Sony consoles -- no other system has had such a focus on them. Anyway, let's make a neat list.
Koei is looking forward to using the cell processor to create "an undisclosed game" fans can freely enjoy. Freely, like downloadable content? Hmm.
Bandai-Namco emphasizes the various functions of all next-gen consoles and admits they have begun working with new hardware. No specifics.
Sega/Sonic Team/Phantasy Star Universe producer spoke of the online capabilities of each console and admitted there's a lot of potential in the Wii. They also mentioned the SIXAXIS and Wiimote as important to the future of gaming.
Nippon Ichi Software spoke of a declining market for high-profile games. Survival in the industry will be dictated by the ability to utilize the next-gen console's capabilities while balancing rising development costs. True enough, if a bit depressing.
Bandai Namco's Tales of... producer said specifically that it's time for the concept behind the Tales series to be rebuilt -- but is unsure about the future of the series at the same time.
Level 5 president Akihiko Hino is optimistic. He's got two titles in the works (one being the Dragon Quest IX game for the Nintendo DS) as well as White Knight Story. He didn't comment on that one, sadly.
From Software announces the development of the DS title also.
Could RPG's be moving more and more onto the DS because of rising development costs and the sheer number of DS's out there? Do you guys think Sony will have to share the genre with it, or will Sony lose it entirely? Either way, it'll be a good year for gamers who like dealing damage in the form of numbers.

Seems that two SKU's aren't enough for Sony. We've got our surprisingly acceptable $499 model of PS3 and the super-snazzy Wi-Fi $599 model, but how would you guys like to toss out those bits of trash and obsolete Sony nonsense for the amazingly awesome, beyond your wildest imagination $2500 model? No, we didn't put one too many zeroes on that (the words zeroes and zeros are both acceptable, so no worries). Rub your eyes and continue reading.
This rumored new model of PS3 in the works is a more "media-centric" build. It's going to look more like a video player and have upgraded playback features, including two HDMI connectors to keep your audio and visual separate. It's not the SCEI brand -- it's a Sony. It's not the PS3 -- it's the PS3.5 and it hasn't been verified, but it's slated to set you back $2500. Oh and yeah, it can also play those PS3 games. What do you guys think of this? Bad idea, or the worst idea?
