Team Ninja boss Tomonobu Itagaki has been leaking words again, talking about everything from the misunderstood Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 to how much he likes Wii.
It turns out that he's not particularly bowled over by Sony's next-gen efforts though; apparently there are no games that grab him.
"There's no launch titles that create within me an urge to search all over Tokyo to find a PS3 so I can play them," he told 1UP in a recent interview.
"The only thing I've seen running on a PS3 is Ninja Gaiden Sigma..." Which happens to be coming along very well, thank you very much, though he didn't say anything more about it.
In contrast he's very impressed with Nintendo, suggesting that he'd like to work with Wii when he finishes his current projects. He envisions himself holding a Japanese sword, that's the kind of frame of mind he's in, scarily.
"I thought it would be good, but I didn't think it would be this good. I do think now that there are more types of games that are suitable for this machine than I actually thought."
Itagaki was speaking in the aftermath of DOAX2's critical panning. He maintains that the game was misunderstood, saying it was a parody of Japanese TV shows featuring girls in bikinis, something that the US and Europe don't have.
"It's almost kind of a joke, a throwback to that, something to make you laugh."
He reckons it's still the best example of the genre on the market though, but that might be because it's a made up genre and DOAX2 is the only game in it.

The PlayStation 3 is set to receive another backwards compatibility boost in the next couple of days, as Sony readies a version 1.5 firmware update for the US and Japan.
Already listed on the PS3 website in Japan, where it's due out on 24th January, the update also introduces support for the "Edy" system prepaid smartcards, allowing owners to buy content from the online store without having to rely on a credit card.
Edy is currently used to charge certain mobile phones, and uses Sony's FeliCa technology, although it's only available in Japan, where users will need an appropriate card reader attached to the PS3 to take advantage.
Other additions in version 1.5 include Korean language input options.

Like your home rolled media center do ya? Well tell us this, can yours throw down against dual integrated CableCARDs, Blu-ray, HD DVD and more than 3TB of RAID-5 protected storage? Definitely not since you haven't managed to skirt the CableLabs certification process... have you? Well, VidaBox's latest all-in-ones can, at least they will once they begin shipping in March 2007. Each new media center system will be engineered to record two HD shows while playing back your choice of a pre-recorded show from disk, Blu-ray or HD DVD media, high fidelity music, upscaled DVD, or digital picture slideshow. Not sure if those optical drives will be writers or read-only devices but we'll guess the latter -- just like their MAX and LUX dual-drive systems. While pricing or specific models were announced, you can expect 'em to drop for more than $5k as their new, top-o-the-line systems.

The PlayStation 3 will launch in Europe on March 23 for £425, says games mag Edge
In a post on its website, Edge says that it has been advised by a source wishing to remain nameless that the PlayStation 3 will "definitely launch in the UK on March 23 at £425".
Both the date and price have been strongly touted via internet rumours over the last few weeks.
Last week Sony said that the official price and date would be announced early this week, though semi-official blog Three Speach now claims that the announcment has now been pushed back a few days to either "Thursday or Friday".
When we picked up the phone Sony unfortunately wasn't around to give us their official line on the Edge report - but we'll be sure to let you know when they get back to us.
So would you but a PS3 at £425? Or have you already imported one? Share your verdict in the comments section below.

Ubisoft's officially announced its first Driver game since acquiring the franchise in 2006 - Driver 76, which is skidding onto PSP.
The game's being developed by Sumo Digital and Ubisoft's Reflections studio and, remaining faithful to the series action-driving formula, drops players into an authentic New York of 1976 where they'll be ploughing their way through 27 new Driver missions spanning six plots (all of which act as a prequel to Driver Parallel Lines' 70s events).
So, car chases and on-foot sections in open environments, Ubisoft further explaining that "Players can take side jobs, earning cash that can be used to modify their rides. Driver 76 also offers an extensive multiplayer mode and a host of mini-games ranging from street races to all out carnage in Destruction Derby mode."
Plus, download content is planned - in the shape of new paint jobs for vehicles you've collected. Driver 76 is due in March.

Five new screenshots of the latest revamped and Unreal Engine 3-powered Turok have stomped on to the internet - and it's looking gorgeous on PS3 and Xbox 360.
After the crushing disappointment of the last Acclaim-developed instalment we're hoping that BVG's next-gen stab will turn out to be a welcome return to form for the series - and going on what we've seen thus far it just might happen.

New podcast from the PSP Show folks, heres the details:
Bit of a difference in today’s show, as I junk the whole news and reviews and sit down with someone in teh PSP scene - so I called up Sumo Digital to speak to Steve Lycett. He’s a long term PSP producer, with titles such as TOCA Race Driver 2, Outrun, Virtua Tennis and Go Sudoku. But what I’m interested in is TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge, one of the games that I am looking forward to (wish I remembered that when someone asked me last week in the show).

It's no secret that the PSP (as with any system) gets ports of games from other consoles. Most of the ports to PSP logically come from the PlayStation 2. But all that is starting to change. With the PS3 on the rise and the PS2 on the decline, PSP is starting to get ports from some unexpected places.
The DS has many a game that it's shared with the Gameboy Advance, but recently it seems like more and more GBA games are jumping over to Sony's portable. The most obvious of these are all of the recently announced Final Fantasy projects. From Final Fantasy Tactics to just plain ol' Final Fantasy, these GBA remakes are being remade again for the PSP. But it doesn't just end there, the PSP will also see a port of the GBA RPG title Riviera (which is great for me, since I never played that game).
Of course, while it seems like quite a few PSP games are from GBA land, that isn't the only system sending off titles to PSP's library. Xbox games like Xyanide and Painkiller: Hell Wars are reported to have versions coming out this year for PSP and the DS racer Asphalt Urban GT 2 will be out shortly. Even the PC isn't exempt as fantastic physics platformer Gish has a release date for our system of choice.
The future though seems to be the Wii and PSP connection. While Alien Syndrome is one of the only Wii/PSP games announced so far, the fact that Wii games have to be developed independently from the rest of the home consoles means many developers may be looking to PSP versions as another source of profit. Of course as with any business move, these ports will have to make money if this is to become a serious trend.

The headline explains it all. We've seen tons of kids with too much money destroying their electronics on the web with a variety of tools. Rifles, bats, and bombs ... now, it's a katana! Should someone that clearly has such anger management problems really have a sword?

Today, Atari announced the development of two entirely new Dragon Ball Z titles. Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road for the PSP and Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu for Nintendo DS will both be fighting their way to stores this spring.
Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road is the sequel to the PSP game, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai. The game follows the same pattern as last year's game and adds more than 50 new fighting skills and ultimate attacks, as well as the power to play heroes and villains from throughout the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT worlds. Additionally, Shin Budokai will offer Dragon Ball fans an entirely new storyline, following Future Trunks in his battles against arch-rival, Majin Buu. Developed by Namco Bandai, Dragon Ball Z Shinbudokai: Another Road is slated for release on the PSP this March.
Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu combines strategic card-based gameplay and role-playing for a new Dragon Ball experience. Cards are the focal point of the game, as they are used to evolve characters and customize moves. Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu will be available on the DS this spring.
Newcomers and faithful fans of DBZ will be thrilled with these two new handheld games," said Emily Anadu of Atari. "Shin Budokai: Another Road lets players take the DBZ universe over a Wi-Fi network with an exciting new story that is sure to grab long-time fans while Harukanaru Densetsu tackles a new form of RPG with card-playing -- an interesting innovation for the DBZ series that we believe will attract gamers who enjoy strategy-based gameplay."

After months of no news related to Grand Theft Auto, the silence recently broke with rumors of Vice City Stories heading to the PlayStation 2. This past Thursday a news tip was sent to this site from Louis Mathieu, about an article over at JeuxVideo. By reading a rough translation using Google's Translation tool, it seems as though they're citing a magazine article about Vice City Stories being published for the PlayStation 3 this Spring. Now, this of course seems unlikely that a PSP game would be published on a next-gen console, but it still means it can head to the PS2, thus being playable on the PS3.
A few days later a post on the official PlayStation boards emerged, also claiming a Spring 2007 release, but sourcing a reliable site, the ESRB. The Entertainment Software Rating Board seems to have already reviewed a PS2 port, bringing more proof that this leading PSP title will be making its way to PS2 consoles.
As far as the alleged Spring 2007 release goes, it currently looks as though this might have been written in one of the many PlayStation Magazines. Expect official word from Rockstar Games / Take-Two pretty soon, and be sure to check back for any news related to this breaking news.
On another note, if you're still looking to download the tunes of Vice City Stories via iTunes, I recently received word from R* that it's still slated for release, although they can't provide an exact date at this time. They are currently available via exclusive download at MTV's Urge, and were originally scheduled to go up on iTunes last November. Also, the coming soon message over at the downloads section of the official VCS site isn't lying at all, Rockstar's also assured me that more are in fact coming at a later date.
Rockstar North developers are also making their way back to their cubicles this coming week, where they'll continue their hard work at one of this year's most anticipated games, Grand Theft Auto: IV. Expect coverage on that title throughout and beyond its pre-game in the very near future...

Are you ready for some business-related math? While it may be attributed to the translation of the page (my browser screws up... if yours pauses for a minute and asks you to stop the script or continue... just stop it), the release date for the upcoming title Alone in the Dark is difficult to understand. The fourth trimester of this year, meaning the fourth quarter, right? But the slated date is the first quarter of 2008, which is the fourth fiscal quarter of 2007. Seriously, let's just expect it around the holidays.
The game is coming along nicely, it seems. Set for simultaneous release across the major next-gen consoles (except Wii, because this game is just too damn pretty for a motion-sensing GameCube) and PC, the game is set up similar to a Noir film, or a mystery novel. Heck, we could even say it's an interactive miniseries. There are about 12 episodes, each "running" approximately 40 minutes (but your explorative nature could run the "show" over an hour for each episode) and concluding with a cliffhanger. Looks sweet. We'll keep an eye out.

This is not for sale, I repeat, this is not for sale. Japan's T-ZONE.PC DIY SHOP (their caps and wacky punctuation, not mine) has outfitted a PS3 with external HDD for funnsies. The shop is rather famous for modding game consoles and putting them on display. This go round aimed to prove that it was possible to install large HDDs. With the demo, mirroring was do-able but data stripping wasn't. Just know: This sort of modding isn't recommended by the manufacture or even the store at that! (When is it?)

PS3 sales in Japan haven't cooled off, they've frozen. Consoles sit on shelves as gamers wait it out: Waiting for actual games to appear or prices to drop. Retailers, on the other hand, are an impatient lot. Retailers are also buying "used" PS3s at much lower prices than previously, paying well under the original sticker price. Just look at how the Don Quijote in Akihabara is slicing 20 percent off the 20GB PLAYSTATION 3. Nice 20-20 irony. The 20GB version originally books at 49,980 yen (US $412), but is being offered for 39,980 yen ($329) in a sale ending February. The shop is knocking a flat 10,000 yen ($82) right now. Japanese bulletin board 2chan reports that this at other Don Quijotes as well. It's interesting to check out the PS3 vibe at 2chan; Reasons for not buying go from "there are no games I want" to "video stores don't rent Blu-ray movies." Well, not yet that is.

Konami has announced the launch of a series of Metal Gear Solid 3 tournaments using the multiplayer mode in the recently released Subsistence version.
MGS3League.com tournaments will consist of three challenges set over a two-week period, with exclusive Konami prizes available.
The site also has social networking pretensions, allowing you to jabber at one another in a forum, set up clans and your own tournaments, and jostle for position on an official league table.
It's multi-lingual too - English, French, German, Spanish and Italian - and open to anybody playing from a PAL territory, so if you've been looking for somewhere to show off your sneaking, give it a look.
