There are plenty of new PSPs in gamer's houses since the holidays and I figured some new PSP owners may not be up to speed on what great games the system has to offer. With that in mind, every day this week we'll feature a new genre and list the top 5 games (according to metareviews), so no matter what you're into, you'll have some idea of what games you should own. Day 2 kicks off with a very competitive genre on PSP: Racing.
Top 5 Racing games on PSP
(tie) Ridge Racer/WipEout Pure
Burnout Legends
TOCA Race Driver 2
Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Twisted Metal: Head-On
I'm not a giant racing fan, so I only own Burnout Legends and Twisted Metal: Head-On (I dig the carnage factor). I did enjoy them both quite a bit though. But what I think doesn't really matter. What do you think about these 5 games? What racing games aren't on this list that you think every PSP owner should have?

PSP sales have been quite good the last few months and I figured there's probably a lot of new PSP owners that may not be up to speed on what great games the system has to offer. With that in mind, every day this week we'll feature a new genre and list the top 5 games (according to metareviews), so no matter what you're into, you'll have some idea of what games you should own. We start off the week with one of the most popular genres around: Action.
Top 5 Action games on PSP
(tie) Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories/Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Daxter
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
I'm lucky enough to own and have played all of the games in this particular list and trust me, they are all incredible gaming experiences and it's all the more impressive that they're on a portable. I do have to say that I think Ratchet & Clank is better than Daxter and GTA: VCS is better than GTA:LCS, but you really can't go wrong with any of these games. What did you think about these 5 games? What action games aren't on this list that you think every PSP owner should have?

For weeks, PS3 owners have been anticipating their shot at closing shut the gates of Oblivion. Well, start clearing off your schedules, bidding your family members farewell and preparing your sick leave excuses. We've officially confirmed with Bethesda Game Works today that on March 20th, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will descend upon Sony's console. Previous dates for the epic role-playing game, which spans the lands of Tamriel, had the title listed as coming out on March 13.
The massive RPG, known on the 360 and PC for its downloadable content, such as Horse Armor and The Orrery, will not be a Director's Edition with all of the additional features included. It will, however, come with the Knights of the Nine side quest already included in the game.

Let's have a little bit of a discussion to open this post. Graphics. Specifically, games like Ratchet & Clank... they look great for what they are -- is this a style of game (cartoonish, for lack of a better word) where the graphics have reached their zenith? Sure, you can add more crap on screen at once, individual blades of grass or fur or whatever... but you wouldn't want these to take on a "realistic" look, would you? What do you think? Is this the best you would want to see out of this style of... art?
Anyway, some scans have popped up on JeuxFrance depicting our two heroes utilizing some crazy weaponry, as usual. One of the pictures (not the one we're using) has what's called the Groovitron, which when fired, causes the enemy to begin dancing uncontrollably, lowering its guard. Nice. We all know that when people are dancing, their self-esteem is the most vulnerable. So, in essence, dancing does indeed cause people to have a lowered guard. Well played. Anyway, this game will probably have a few new bits of info released after the GDC.

New software will allow owners of Sony's handheld to mix and sample beats on the move.
A new piece of software developed by Definitive Software and published by Eidos will position Sony's PSP as a piece of professional music equipment.
Called Traxxpad, the software attempts to offer virtual sequencers, drum machines and keyboards that can be both used by professionals and consumers. A mixing and sampling element means users can record samples straight to the handheld and remix them on the go, and export their creations as MP3s or WAVs.
"It's one thing to make a powerful music device, but it is truly impressive to make an application that allows someone unfamiliar with music to make something that sounds professional," said Eidos' marketing manager Kevin Gill.
"That is where Traxxpad excels. This is a piece of software that appeals equally to both aspiring musicians as well as professional music producers."
Exec VP of sales and marketing at Eidos Robert Lindsey described the software as "It produces professional music, and makes it easy to do, providing an end result that is more fun and satisfying than completing a pre-defined task in a game."

In the year 2049, the governments of the world switched to unmanned aircraft for combat in an attempt to save lives. By doing so, they decommissioned thousands of jets and their fighter pilots, ironically destroying the livelihood of those they were trying to save. Years later, these planes appeared on the black market and were sold to the highest bidders. It wasn’t long before an underground emerged, featuring ex-fighter pilots, smugglers and wealthy hobbyists piloting the decommissioned aircraft. In a competition of fight and flight, these pilots heavily modify their jet fighters to outrace and out duel the competition to win fame, glory and fortune. Welcome to the world of M.A.C.H.

Lead the glorious army of 300 Spartans in an action game base on Frank Miller's graphic novel series and the major motion picture by Zack Snyder. Players take on the role of King Leonidas, who leads the brave 300 Spartans against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. As Leonidas, uses sword, spear and shield and the power of the soldiers in a battle to determine the very fate of Western civilization. 300: March to Glory is a visceral experience focused on action and combat, allowing the player to fight both solo and in a phalanx alongside his fellow Spartans. The game follows the film's highly stylized production design for a unique look and an intense visual experience to charge along with the frantic action.

A weekend Wall Street Journal article claims Ken Kutaragi -- the father of the PlayStation -- went over budget on the PS3 without informing Sony knighted CEO Sir Howard Stringer until it was too late, forcing the company to reduce the launch price of the 20GB PS3 in Japan by 20%.
The Journal examines Stringer's controversial and tricky two year run as global CEO while balancing the differing Western and Japanese business cultures and calls Kutaragi a rogue executive "notorious" for being at odds with Sony corp and its various divisions. But it's not just Sony management at odds with Kutaragi. The father of "stupid things said by executives" has been offending gamers for the past year, i.e. you must be affluent (like fine-wine) or work two jobs to buy a PS3

Mmmm. Where to begin. What you are about to see (if you haven't already) is one of the weirdest PS3 trailers commercials you will ever see. It features no screenshots, no image of the product its trying to sell, and ends up looking more like a promo for a new Quentin Tarantino film than anything else. It has it all: hookers, jock straps, a Baxter-like little dog, and exploding cash. Don't get us wrong; the creative side of our brains like the result (especially the music and mini suspense act), but there is no way in Hades this thing could help move PS3s in Europe (where the ad was made for).

There's so many wallpapers for the PSP out there, yet I thought that a lot of them were either too busy or boring, featuring just naked girls, fake OS pictures or game related pictures, so I did a small compilation based on my own photos and voilá, here are 16 PNG images, that I hope will be to your liking. All images are submitted under the Creative Commons license.
