We love the PSP. But it's not perfect, is it? Certainly, there are a few things that could be changed. Tech Digest has a wishlist with ten suggestions to Sony. Do you agree with some, or all, of them?
No more UMDs: "faster load times, the increased battery life and the dramatically reduced risk of PSP shuriken injury."
Hard drive, please: "it is high time we thought beyond the limitations of what the Memory Stick format has to offer."
Better Wi-Fi: "let's up the ante with faster wireless connectivity. Because 802.11b was like totally 2005."
Increased battery life: "Currently, you can expect between 4-8 hours of juice from your PSP's battery ... Surely we can do better than this by now."
Brighter screen
No more console ports: "A lot of the blame lies in Sony's non-committal to first-party development on the PSP" (Ironically, their most wanted game is still a port: Gran Turismo 4)
Bluetooth: "the PS3 has Bluetooth, so I'm seeing a clear opportunity for the PSP to double up as full blown wireless controller."
Even better Remote Play: "Give the PSP the power to turn your PS3 on and off. Let me browse content while my flat mates are getting repeatedly pwned at Resistance. And if it eats up their bandwidth, who cares?"
Touch screen? Tilt control? "Why not have some touch screen functionality? But if that's still too limiting, why not have full set of six-axis motion detection to boot?"
PSP-PS3 networked gaming: "PlayStation Home looks like it might be the ideal testing ground for just such an idea; the PS3 can act as the main programming platform for your own virtual home, while the PSP could simply let you hang out in your pad and check out others while you're away form the main console."
Many of these revisions are ambitious, to say the least. While we may not see any of these features until a real PSP2 comes out, it's still fun to dream. What else would you add?

Every week for the next few weeks, we'll be showing you one new video from Galaxy's End, a PSP-exclusive RTS that currently has no publisher. I got my hands on a playable at GDC, and it looked pretty good. Through this new footage, you'll also be able to judge for yourself.

Ambitious publisher becomes biggest selling third party publisher on new Sony format.
Sega’s five launch titles claimed an impressive 13 per cent share of the UK software market on PS3 this week, with three titles breaking into the all formats top ten.
Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3, Sonic the Hedgehog, Full Auto 2 and World Snooker Championship 2007 all contributed to the week one blitz.
“We are very pleased to have achieved the status of the number one third party publisher at the launch of the PS3,” commented Alan Pritchard, managing director of Sega UK.
“Sega has continued to increase its market share considerably over the last 18 months, and this is indicative of the investment that the company continues to put toward next generation development. We look forward to further success on PS3 in 2007, with Sega Rally, The Club and The Golden Compass also due for release later this year.”

A new report from Newsweek, spied today on GameSpot, places further blame for problems concerning the PS3 at Sony, firmly on the doorstep of Ken Kutaragi, the PlayStation godfather who was recently 'moved' into the role of Chairman at Sony Computer Entertainment. Reports in recent months had blamed Kutaragi's 'slowness' for the PS3 losing exclusive titles like GTA IV and Assassin's Creed.
The Newsweek report additionally alleges that the former SCE president was shuffled because of a lack of communication with Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer. The report, which includes an interview with Stringer himself, says Kutaragi was 'uncommunicative', and often failed to relay important decisions to Stringer, overall Sony head-honcho.
The interview adds that Kutaragi failed to inform Stringer of the PS3's production problems, and that he also allowed development to go over budget without informing higher-level bosses. Stringer is also said to be unhappy over Kutaragi's advise to cut the price of the PS3 in Japan, which the Sony boss believes could have been a subsequently poor decision.
Stringer allegedly tells the magazine that he had attempted to repair relations and build a partnership, but with little success ("I've had dinner with [Kutaragi] more times than I've had dinner with my wife, and that's not really healthy"). Kutaragi is now involved more heavily in game development, while Kaz Hirai runs Sony Computer Entertainment in the role of president. More soon. b

From the Site:
Hello to all our users! Today it's my turn to announce the weekly build, so why don't I post in Russian? Thanks to the Russian users for your support. Now you have an insider in Desktop Team! :-)
The most important is that we've fixed some issues with Flash 9 on Linux. This means that you can now watch YouTube video fullscreen! (And close annyoing Flash ads.)
Other changes
Added support for automatic search from address bar when entering more than one word;
Some speed optimizations in the Speed Dial skin;
Added support for the optional “key” in BitTorrent requests, should make more torrent downloads work;
Fixed issue with transparent areas in some widgets on UNIX;
we have now ppc-linux .6 packages: that means that they work (okay, should work) on your PS3! — if you installed Linux on it.

Yesterday's Grand Theft Auto IV trailer sparked a ridiculous amount of internet debate, with fans combing over every frame attempting to glean every minute detail from the minute-long clip. The trailer brought web servers to their knees and eventually showed up on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Sadly, no such trailer appeared on the PlayStation Store yesterday. Instead, PLAYSTATION 3 owners were given trailers for Warhawk, Super Rub A Dub and PlayStation Home. The demo for 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K7 also went up, alongside some Hollywood fodder. Not bad, but no GTA IV trailer.
I realize that the fledgling network may have actually caused the Sony data center to explode from the data transfer, but I can't help feel a bit jealous of my Xbox Live brethren. I'd have loved to easily watch the HD trailer on my HDTV via my PS3.
What, if anything, fellow PS3 owners, would you like to see more or less of on the PlayStation Store?

After hearing the bad news that the highly anticipated Play Adaptor for the PLAYSTATION 3 had been shelved due to a lack of Guitar Hero controller support, we contacted manufacturer Nyko to get more details on what led to the decision.
Nyko reps explained to us in an e-mail earlier today:
Current technology makes it impossible to properly pass the special functions of the guitar controller to the PS3 with its existing protocol. Features like the whammy and strum bars do not function properly. Being adamant players of Guitar Hero we know how important precise controls are to fans of the series. We will not produce a product if it falls short of those expectations.
We are disappointed that we need to shelve this product as it has been one of the most requested items since its announcement at CES 2007 with numerous inquiries from consumers on a daily basis. If new technology or a firmware update is released that enables us to provide full support for Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on the PS3 via the Play Adaptor, we will reactivate the development of this product.
Again, we would like to express our regret for needing to put this product on hold as we know many people were looking forward to its release.
Unfortunately, I'm going to set realistic expectations for myself and others looking forward to Guitar Hero I and II on the PS3 and cast doubt upon a firmware update addressing this any time soon. Back to waiting for Guitar Hero III, then!

We posted earlier in the day of suspicious reports that NIS America would bring the lovely SRPG Disgaea to the PSP later this summer, but didn't want to believe. It was too good to be true! But word from the American branch of Nippon-Ichi Software is that the game originally released on the PS2—and a perfect addition to the PSP library—has been approved for a North American release.
Just as exciting was the official announcement that NIS would be localizing three more titles in the company's vein. For the PS2 we get VanillaWare's real-time strategy game GrimGrimoire and Nippon Ichi's strategy RPG Soul Nomad & the World Eaters (nee Soul Cradle). For the PSP, Dragoneer's Aria. It's the kind of Japanese grinding fun that will keep us from seeing daylight for weeks at a time.

Grand Theft Auto fans may have to wait until Game Informer's May issue hits the racks in the coming weeks to get further dirt on the fourth proper GTA game. In addition to having details on 2K Sports Madden competitor, they've wrapped up an exclusive look at Rockstar's latest, so you may want to rethink that decision to pass on a magazine subscription. Who am I kidding? These GI scans will show up on the internet within seconds of some attention whoring subscriber getting his copy in the mail.

More Nippon Ichi news this morning. NIS and Hitmaker are working together on a new RPG called Dragoneer's Aria. In the game you take the role of Valen who is a novice dragoneer. He is tasked with protecting the elemental dragons from a dreaded evil monster. The game focuses on friendship and has a good chance of having a dragon or two in it. NIS and Hitmaker first got their relationship started when NIS released Blade Dancer for PSP. The mutual respect has resulted in this project.
Dragoneer's Aria will satisfy PSP RPG fans in July.

Sometimes, life just isn't fair. While plenty of game characters have suffered at the hands of diminishing product quality over the years, reputation sullied and tarnished beyond repair, other's have marched on in the face of humiliation and - somehow - managed to keep a stranglehold on their popularity. So, what's the lesson here? Easy, have big boobs and don't be blue.
Of course, in the case of Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider series pulled off something of a coup de grace last year when publisher Eidos wisely entrusted the floundering franchise to veteran developer Crystal Dynamics. The result was one of the finest comebacks in videgame history. Needless to say then, since the overwhelmingly positive response to Tomb Raider: Legend, all eyes have been on Crystal Dynamics to see which direction it would take Eidos' flagship filly next.

When it was released in 2003, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was one of the best strategy RPGs ever released. Incredibly deep, full of humorous characters and challenging for everyone from novices to experts of the genre, Disgaea was an unexpected gem for the PS2. It's almost four years later, while console owners received a sequel last year, handheld owners have been left in the cold until now. This August, PSP owners will get a chance to enjoy the Netherworld when Disgaea PSP is released.
Unlike many titles that migrate over to the system from the console, Disgaea PSP isn't a port of the PS2 game. Instead, the story of the title is actually a prequel to the original title, and takes place right after the death of King Krichevskoy. However, instead of focusing primarily upon the adventure of Laharl, the prince of the Netherworld, Disgaea PSP highlights the story of Etna this time around. Not only will players wind up waking up Laharl and helping him along in his quest, they'll also work on turning Etna into the Beauty Queen Ultimate Overlord that she's always wanted to be. In fact, if players manage to achieve this status, they'll wind up unlocking a new secret ending for the game.
All the strategic goodness from the console has returned in Disgaea PSP ... Fans familiar to the turn-based format of the Disgaea franchise will easily be able to pick up and play this title, which still retains the standard grid map. Players send their party members around the map and select targets, performing either regular or special attacks against their opponents. As you gain new levels, you acquire new skills and powerful attacks that can be used in combat to devastate your foes. You'll need to build up your skills too, because you'll face off against large numbers of opponents with varying strength levels. Just in case you were wondering, players will still have the opportunity to level up to 10,000 also, which should provide a ton of replayability.
However, even if you've become accustomed to the console version, a number of surprises are waiting for you when you pick up Disgaea PSP. For one thing, players will have to contend with geo cubes, new randomly distributed items that bestow special effects on the battlefield. For another thing, the portable title features a new multiplayer duel system that was specifically developed for North America. That means that you can challenge your friends to see who the better Netherworld strategist is. You'll also have the option to manipulate almost every option for the game, including changing game rules, win/loss conditions and even creating new battle maps to fight over. Finally, along with a large roster of NIS America characters that have been hidden away in the game, players will have the option to purchase and replay their favorite soundtracks, giving them another level of customization during play.
