hacked2123 has released details of a new Proof of concept exploit for the PS3.
Heres the details;
Very simply I had a .h264 encoded video file, and encapsulated it through VLC with M2TS, and transferred it to the PS3; it claims the file is "Corrupted Data". When selected the PS3 prompts the screen with "The data is corrupted."
Here's the good part, that same file, when selected after entering a game (any game), will produce a completely black screen, no info, no beep, no nothing and the controller circle and other buttons won't work. (PS button works, but when the system is turned off it sounds like its yelling @ you (the beeps))

Even though the game has been moved to the 360 as well as the PS3, it makes this blogger no less pumped to see one of his most lovingly difficult non-RPG titles in action. More people will get to experience it. Hopefully there's not a curse on all even-numbered DMC titles. While we'd love to embed the HD version of the trailer, it's not allowed or something. Anyway, enjoy your trip down asskickery lane, courtesy of this Devil May Cry 4 action montage.

Ya know, Nintendo has always said it’s not aiming to have the best graphics in the home console business, but I never thought I’d see the day when a handheld rivaled the Wii’s graphic’s capabilities.
The game in question is Alien Syndrome, which is developed by Totally Games. I don’t think there’s any question the Wii version pushes more polygons, but the PSP’s textures look cleaner and more crisp.
However, I do want to say this problem could have more to do with the developer and the fact the games are still unfinished. But whatever way you slice it, it’s hard to argue that the games don’t look pretty similar, graphically speaking.

While the PS3 won't bring about world peace or solve world hunger, there's a good chance that it can help cure cancer. But your PS3 can't to it without you. With firmware update 1.6 just around the corner, it's time to do your part for humanity. This week marks the first ever Sunday Night Foldathon in support of Stanford's cancer research efforts.
"The S.N.F event is simple. On Sunday Night (March. 25th 2007) everyone who wants to participate in the S.N.F event simply turn there PS3 on and start the folding program, could be anytime you want or when you goto bed, you may let the program run as long as you want but would be great if it could atleast last till 7am Monday morning, its all up to you since anything helps. This is to see how much help we (the playstation community) can be for this program and to show them that the feature is being widely used and maybe saving lives in the process."
Let's use the comments section as a virtual "pledge card." Let everyone know that your committed to leaving your PS3 on Sunday night in support of this great initiative and to help make the world a better place. Truly, this is a time for fanboys to unite!

We were told to expect Advanced Remote Play functionality in today's big PS3 update (version 1.6). Looks like we were played the fool: you will not be able to access your PS3's content from any wi-fi point: once again, you must be in wireless range of your PS3. Until they correct this, the Remote Play functionality loses a lot of its purpose: what's the point of being tethered so close to the system?
There are some improvements made in this firmware revision, but they are very subtle. You'll be able to easily register a PSP for Remote Play use by accessing Remote Play from System Settings on PS3. Also, you'll be able to connect a wi-fi bridge to 20GB PS3s, allowing them to interface with PSP like the 60GB versions do.
While these incremental advances are appreciated, it's disappointing nonetheless to see Sony back down on a promised feature. We're expecting Advanced Remote Play to work, eventually. The question is: when?

Forumites across the Atlantic have been reporting that a GTA teaser trailer was shown from 2am to 2.30am EST on the FX channel's infomercial slot.
What's intriguing about the ad is the way it mimicked the holding page you see at the official site and then... well that's it. It did nothing else. According to those who saw it (insomniacs and night shift workers by the sound of it) it displayed the GTA IV logo and a countdown ticked away in the background. At the end of the half hour the usual 'Not Yet Rated' voice was heard and the trailer ended.
Rockstar Games in the UK have confirmed it was an official trailer but couldn't comment on whether a similar ad would appear on British TV. That's not going to stop us skipping through all the late night Sky channels at 3am in the morning just in case it shows up, though.
In the meantime, to get an idea of the experience, head over to the official site and see if you can stick it out for half an hour. And don't forget - to see the real trailer you'll need to be sat at your computer at 11pm UK time next Thursday. Cancel everything and be there. You know it'll be worth the wait.

The first batch of downloadable items for PlayStation 3 games on the European PlayStation Network has been revealed--with extra goodies for Genji: Days of The Blade, and Ridge Racer 7 available on March 23.
Genji: Days of the Blade gamers will be able to download different sets of battledress for the four characters, including Heishi clan armour, Western-style metal armour, and... school uniforms.
There will be a total of 14 downloadable decal packs for Ridge Racer 7 available over the coming two months, with themes featuring the likes of Katamari Damacy, Pac-Man, and Xevious. There will also be series of a total of 25 downloadable race events, including one set against a black Angelus in a Quad Battle event on Seaside Route 765.
Other titles that will get extra content coming in April or May include MotorStorm, and Resistance: Fall of Man.
For MotorStorm, any gamer playing online will get a Time Trial mode automatically, which will allow players to take any vehicle out on the track to battle for the fastest lap time. Extra tracks, vehicles, and game modes will also be up for grabs sometime during April and May.
Resistance: Fall of Man will feature two new playable maps, snowy Westmorland and autumnal Camborn. Multiplayer games will be fully playable on these maps.
Specific prices for the downloadables have not yet been announced, although in a previous statement, Sony said that prices would start from 0.99 euros (approx 70p).

March 22nd, 2007, 19:44 Posted By: wraggster
The PlayStation 3 officially went on sale in Australia overnight, with hundreds of gamers lining up outside more than 500 retail stores across the nation to purchase Sony's latest console at midnight launch events.
The largest event was held at Sydney's Pitt St mall, where retail store Myer and Sony Computer Entertainment Australia teamed up to present launch-night activities, which included prize giveaways, live demonstrations, and a screening of Casino Royale on the big screen. Approximately 70 people lined up to grab their consoles at the Myer Pitt St store, with a hundred-strong crowd looking on. The PS3's arrival comes exactly one year after Microsoft's Xbox 360 launched in Australia. Microsoft's launch event for the 360--which was also held in Sydney's Pitt St mall--drew a crowd of close to 1,000 people.
Approximately 70 people lined up at the Myer launch event.
Other retailers across Sydney also held launch events, most of which drew modest crowds. The Harvey Norman store at the Moore Park SupaCenta had close to 40 people attend its midnight launch activities, which included an appearance from Australian boxing great Kostya Tszyu. Tszyu was on hand to demo Fight Night Round 3, as well as sign the first PS3 sold at the store.
Over at EB Games at Bondi Junction in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, the launch crowd was even smaller, with approximately 20 people lined up outside the store to purchase their PS3s. Five major retailers opened late in the large shopping district of Chatswood, on Sydney's North Shore. The EB Games at Chatswood had about 30 customers in line, while the near-by Toys 'R' Us store scored 20.
Despite the low turnout, retailers were generally positive about the launch of Sony's next-generation product. Myer chief executive officer Bernie Brooks said his chain of stores experienced an extremely high number of PS3 presales, citing the figure at more than A$2 million. Harvey Norman, general manager for computers and communications at Rutland Smith, said his company is estimating that the PS3 will generate close to A$10 million in sales by Monday, with 50 percent coming from preorders.
Sony is also bullish, reporting that more than A$20 million worth of PS3s had been preordered prior to launch.
Business issues didn't concern gamers waiting in line for their console, though. Danny Zarka, the first person in line at Myer's Pitt St store, said he had been anxiously awaiting the PS3 for more than a year.

March 22nd, 2007, 19:42 Posted By: wraggster
Hundreds of retail stores around the country are getting ready to throw their doors open at midnight tonight for the official launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 in Australia.
One of the biggest crowds is expected to be at Sydney's Pitt St Mall, where retail store Myer (in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment Australia) will be entertaining eager gamers lining up for the new console with free entertainment, including a public screening of the James Bond film Casino Royale.
GameSpot AU will be covering the Sydney launch of the PS3 with regularly updated news reports from the Pitt St Mall location. Check back here for our coverage later tonight. For more information about the PS3 in Australia, check out our extensive PS3 Launch Centre.
9:40 p.m.: There's less than three hours to go now until the midnight launch of the PS3, and Sydney's Pitt St Mall is... empty. Workers are still setting up barricades leading into the entrance of the Myer store, and the big screen to be used for showing Casino Royale at 10 p.m. was just erected 15 minutes ago. 2Day FM radio personality Lizzie Lovett has been hyping up the nonexistent crowd. Here's hoping some eager gamers line up soon.
10:00 p.m.: Still no one lining up behind the official barricades, but a small group of curious onlookers have started to gather outside and around the stage.
10:15 p.m.: We just spoke with Sony Computer Entertainment Australia head Michael Ephraim, who said that he still expects the PS3 to become the winner in this generation of consoles. As for the launch finally happening after months of waiting, Ephraim said he was excited that the time had finally come.
10:35 p.m.: A crowd of about 100 people have now gathered around the official Myer lineup area. Simply said, no one is in the line, but a sizable crowd is starting to gather. 2Day FM staff are walking around the crowd giving away free drinks and popcorn. Casino Royale is playing on the big screen, and it's at the section where Bond is running around Morocco.
10:42 p.m.: Alert! Alert! Five people have now actually formed a line. The movie has been paused to allow some live gameplay with people from the crowd. Gran Turismo HD is now being played on the big screen. MC Lizzie Lovett is urging the crowd to join the line.
11:00 p.m.: Twenty people are now in line. It's a good mix of people, with some teenagers and a few parents waiting. The first in line is Danny Zarka from Pyrmont, who says he's been looking forward to buying this console for more than a year.
11:12 p.m.: There are now close to 50 people lining up, and about 300 more milling around outside the official barricade. Some lucky crowd members just completed a lap on FI Championship Edition on the big screen. Free massages are being given out underneath a tent at the end of the line.
11:20 p.m.: There are now about 60 people in line, but the crowd outside the line has dwindled somewhat to about 200. We just spoke to Bernie Brooks, CEO of Myer, who said that the PS3 had by far the most preorders of any next-generation console. Brooks quoted a presale figure of close to A$2 million.
11:40 p.m.: We've just received reports from our colleagues at CNET.com.au who are staking out the Moore Park Supa Centa. Jeremy Roche reports a crowd of about 40 people, who have just finished watching Kostya Tszyu play Fight Night. Ella Morton is at the Bondi EB Games, and she reports a very small turnout of about 10 people.
11:50 p.m.: Getting close to launch now, and there are about 70 people in line. Updates will now become more sporadic as we cover the midnight rush.
LATE UPDATE: Just before midnight, Lizzie Lovett led the countdown. The number of people in line was still roughly 70 or so, but they made plenty of noise while counting down to zero. After midnight, the lineup of people had to travel up a flight of escalators to reach Myer's sales area. At roughly 12:30 a.m., there were still close to 20 people waiting to pay for their consoles.
12:50 p.m.: Back at GameSpot AU HQ, and we've turned on our PS3 to see whether the firmware upgrade (1.6) has been released yet. No luck.

All eyes are on Sony this weekend as the format holder launches the long anticipated PlayStation 3 in Europe.
Due to officially go on sale tomorrow following delays, the final next-generation home console to hit the market boasts a number of different features to rival machines – but also a hefty price tag of GBP 425 / EUR 599.
The official UK launch takes place this evening at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street, where Sony is promising the first 150 customers a free copy of first-party exclusive title Resistance: Fall of Man.
Virgin marketing exec Stephen Lynn told GamesIndustry.biz that as well as a healthy number of pre-ordered consoles, he expects free stock to sell out by lunchtime on Friday.
After the Metropolitan police voiced its concern over the idea of midnight launches, both GAME and HMV have decided to reschedule their events for early morning on Friday.
HMV is partnering with Sega, giving away 150 copies of Virtua Tennis 3 to the first consumers to shell out for the PS3 at its 7.30am opening.
Specialist retailer GAME has reported "phenomenal" demand for the PlayStation 3 and is opening at 7am to offer breakfast to its first customers, along with their pre-ordered consoles.
It's not just the national retailers putting on special events for the launch of the PlayStation 3 - chains such as Gamestation and Chips, as well the independent retail community, are all expecting a huge launch this Friday.
GamesIndustry.biz will be at the midnight launch of the PlayStation 3 and will offer a full report on Friday morning, along with comments from key Sony executives and retail figures.

The PlayStation 3 will launch in Europe tomorrow alongside 27 first- and third-party titles plus a selection of peripherals.

Friday also sees the launch of a new firmware update for PlayStation 3 which boosts the number of PS2 games compatible with the console - full details are available on PlayStation.com.
Update 1.6 will also introduce background downloading for up to six pieces of content, support for Bluetooth keyboards and mice, a full on-screen text-entry keyboard, and an application which allows users to take part in the Folding@home project. March 22nd, 2007, 19:36 Posted By: wraggster
High Street retailer GAME has told GamesIndustry.biz that it expects the PlayStation 3 launch will be far stronger than that of the Wii or Xbox 360 – due to a good supply of consoles leading to less disappointment amongst eager consumers.
While Nintendo admits it's still struggling to supply units to retail, and the Xbox 360 release was marred by a slow supply of consoles months after launch, GAME sees Sony's stock building as essential to pleasing every consumer who wants a PlayStation 3.
"It's very unusual that we're going to be in a situation where we've got enough stock to fulfil demand in the short term – that's never happened before," commented Anna Macario, marketing director at GAME.
"Sony withheld the release of the PS3 in order to build up stock levels for launch. The situation with the Xbox 360 was terrible and the Wii doesn't even hit the sides when it comes in."
"I think this is a very good move on Sony's part – it won't have that negativity of not being able to supply enough units," she said.
Macario wouldn't be drawn on how quickly GAME is likely to sell out of its PS3 allocation, but believes that customers turning up on launch day should be able to get their hands on the next-gen console whether they've pre-ordered or not.
"The noise and the hype around it will drive more people to stores than just those that have pre-ordered," she offered.
"We've certainly dressed stores up and made it available so that customers understand they can come in and buy the PS3."
"The good thing is that we're not going to have this whole raft of disappointed consumers on launch day who won't be able to buy the console for another month," she added.
As well as an early morning launch at the company's flagship store on Oxford street, over two thirds of its UK stores will be opening tonight to sell units at midnight.
Macario also revealed that Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm are the two most popular titles requested, with Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 and Activision's Call of Duty 3 also top of the list.
"All the stores are really revving up for it and prepared to put in the long hours to be able to get through the customers."
"The concern is that there's a lot to sell during the day and we'll need the extra hours to get through it all," she concluded.

March 22nd, 2007, 19:35 Posted By: wraggster
The flagship Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street welcomed the first customers keen to buy a PS3 at noon yesterday, with five people in the queue by the time the doors shut at 10pm.
At the front of the line was 17 year-old Ritatsu Thomas, who had turned up outside the store at 5am. He told GamesIndustry.biz, "I went to the Wii launch and I got there quite late. I didn't get my Wii that day, and I was quite disappointed. This was my chance to do it right.
"I didn't come as early as the Wii launch people came because I knew PS3 isn't that hyped - that's why there are only three people here to buy PS3s. Still, as long as I'm number one."
Thomas had been expecting more fans to be camping over on Wednesday night, despite the fact that PS3 units won't be handed over until the console officially goes on sale at midnight on Thursday.
"I was expecting at least 20 people by now, but not many people have turned up. It's kind of weird," he said. So was Thomas tempted to give up and go home? "Slightly, yes, I am actually."
When it comes to PS3 games, Thomas said he's most looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII. Asked what titles he'll be picking up at midnight he replied, "Nothing, except the free game they give me. I might buy Motorstorm as well."
Second in the queue was 19 year-old Sadie Chatfield, who described PS3 as "The best thing in the world" - explaining she pre-ordered consoles from other stores but was lining up to collect one early.
"It's miles better than Wii or 360 - okay, it may cost a bit more, but you get more for your money," she added.
Chatfield was accompanied by her boyfriend, 21 year-old Anthony Brophy: "I work at Argos, so they're delivering mine on Friday. I just came in to make sure I get peripherals and stuff."
Brophy already owns a Wii and Xbox 360, and said Microsoft's console is his favourite so far. "I don't know if PS3 will change that, but 360 has brilliant games. I've got a Wii but since they launched it there's a lack of games - it's hard to get the consoles, but since launch there's no games that I would consider buying. Hopefully they'll get something out really quickly."
At 6pm another PS3 fan joined the queue - Omar Zafar, 17, who said, "I'm a Sony fan. I had a 360, but I sold it because of PS3. It's not too expensive because it's got more stuff than Xbox 360, like Blu-ray."
Rounding off the line at 9pm was 25 year-old Gary Tahmasbi, who said he doesn't make a habit of queuing up for console launches. "It's something that I'd never normally do, but they're giving away a free game. I'm a student so I'm going to take advantage of that.
"I think PS3 is a fantastic games console, the most powerful one. Whether it's the best remains to be seen, but the games Sony releases are normally the best, so it should be. Only time will tell."
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Virgins promotions and PR manager Stephen Lynn said he wasn't disappointed by the level of turnout on Wednesday. "I'm delighted that we've got anyone at all, to be honest. We were just being cautious because we know from previous console launches that fanatical gamers sometimes sleep on the streets.
"We wanted to make sure that any customers who turned up were safe and secure. We're not bothered that it's only five people - it's tomorrow that we expect people to turn up and get involved in what will hopefully be a memorable day, and one of the biggest console launches in memory. It's certainly the biggest pre-order campaign we've had for any console."
When asked how many customers he's expecting to arrive today Lynn replied, "That's a crystal ball question. We're set up for 10 to 500-plus. However many turn up, we'll make sure they have a safe time and a fun time - that's what's important from our point of view."

Sony has let fly plans for future additions to its online service this afternoon, highlighting what's in store for us at the end of this month and throughout April.
Downloadable games available to play from day one will be bite-sized titles Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Blast Factor, Lemmings, and Gran Turismo HD Concept.
Those following in late March and onwards are Super Rub a Dub, flOw, Go! Puzzle and Go! Sudoku.
All of these will be introduced a knock down rate, an offer that's running until 23rd May.
You Eurogamers that are after a bit of play-testing can look forward to seven new demos this weekend, all of which will be free; choosing between Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Formula One Championship Edition, Ridge Racer 7, Genji: Days of the Blade, Lemmings, and Blast Factor.
If you're one of those planning to buy Ridge Racer or Genji you'll be treated to new downloadable content this weekend, as will owners for Resistance and MotorStorm whose new bits and bobs will arrive in April and May.
All of this lot will be available from the PlayStation Store, provided you've hooked your console up to your broadband connection.
Downloadable games will range from free to GBP 9.99, so make sure you keep an eye on the price tag.
You'll also be able to use the PlayStation Network to play your friends at your favourite games, splatting mud in their faces in MotorStorm, or killing them to death in Resistance: Fall of Man. And, unlike another service that we can't say for fear of bias accusations, it will be completely free.

Irish betting outfit Paddy Power reckons the PS3 will fly off the shelves tomorrow, making it the most successful console launch ever. The bookie expects all of the units to be sold out after just 60 seconds of shop-doors opening.
So, naturally it's offering you the chance to win some dosh and even a PS3 by guessing which launch game will be the most popular. Resistance: Fall of Man is currently the 6/4 favourite, whilst Sonic the Hedgehog is running rings around himself at 100/1.
"Betting gets very busy around the launches of new consoles," said Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power. "The PS3 is the Aston Martin of computer consoles, so as launches go it doesn't get much bigger than this!"
"Everyone will be rushing to get their hands on one, and to celebrate the launch we plan on giving a couple away to our punters!"
Eager fans were invited to queue up early at the official UK launch event at Oxford Street's Virgin Megastore in London yesterday, and by the end of the day five hopefuls stood in line. However, things are expected to get much busier tonight, and we'll be there with our microphone and camera to bring you all the hustle and bustle of an exciting night.
Just in case you were wondering, we've included Paddy Powers' odds below. Keen-eyed readers amongst you will point out that Oblivion, Double Agent and F.E.A.R. might have a hard time getting off the ground, seeing as they're not actually out tomorrow.
6/4 Resistance: Fall of Man
15/8 MotorStorm
5/1 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
8/1 Ridge Racer 7
10/1 Call of Duty 3
10/1 Formula One Championship Edition
12/1 Virtua Fighter 5
14/1 Splinter Cell: Double Agent
16/1 Virtua Tennis 3
18/1 Need for Speed Carbon
25/1 Def Jam: ICON

Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that dirty racer MotorStorm has been given a new in-game friends list to help you keep track of your muddy buddies.
The patch went live last night, and once downloaded lets you see which of your pals are around and what they're up to. And, rather obviously, you'll be able to invite them over for a spot of off-road mayhem.
However, if you're not on someone's buddy list you won't be able to join their game, stopping unwanted visitors ruining your fun. Apparently it's just Italians playing at the moment - as you might imagine, what with breaking the retail street date of PS3 and all that.
MotorStorm will be available on Friday at the PlayStation 3 launch, and is one of the best games in the line-up.

In just a few short hours, the PS3 will finally see its European debut. In the usual fashion, the hardcore gaming elite-and-freak are lining up outside stores in a rolling launch hitting Australia first before making its way to Europe. Some lucky Italians have already received theirs as a few retailers have broken the March 23 street date and sold the console early. In London, police have cracked down on midnight openings for fear of repeating the crime infested US launch. A notable exception is the Virgin Megastore on Oxford street which is moving ahead with plans to facilitate a midnight launch by offering a makeshift campsite on its lower floor to keep fans "comfortable and safe." Oh the humanity!

The latest in Square Enix's epic RPG series, Final Fantasy XIII, has not yet been secured as a PS3-exclusive.
Discussing game exclusivity, Vice president of SCE Europe, Georges Fornay, told French site dna.fr: "The development cost of games has exploded, so it has become difficult to have exclusiveness, except over our own games."
He goes on to reveal that exclusivity for Final Fantasy XIII is "under discussion", suggesting that the deal is still up for grabs. Might we see Square opt for a cross platform release? We've put forward the query and await a reply.
Fornay confirms: "We will have as of launch 30 games, including Motorstorm, Resistance and Virtua Fighter 5. Moreover, we await 200 games from here to the end of 2007." There'll be plenty of games to play, then.
Exclusivity looks set to become a rarer occurrence with escalating development costs making it increasingly necessary for third-party developers to release games on multiple platforms to gain maximum possible returns on their investments.

Sony has told CVG this morning that new download content for PS3 shooter Resistance: Fall of Man that's just released in America won't be available tomorrow for UK and European punters.
Although we will get the download content - which includes new multiplayer modes along with big fixes and improvements - on these shores, a spokesperson told us there's no confirmed date for its appearance. Sony fed us a similar line previously, but we were hoping we'd see the update available when PS3 launched in Old Blighty.
So, while we peer into the future and await the update's arrival, our North American cousins are currently enjoying new multiplayer modes Team Conversion and Assault in addition to the new Spectator mode - and tweaks and balancing, if you can enjoy that kind of thing. Perhaps appreciate is a better world.
"Team Conversion mode", Sony has informed us previously, "is the same gameplay mechanic as the existing Conversion mode except that gamers will play a team and both teams will start off as human and have one life on each side.
"The Assault mode is based around the concept of attrition where the objective is to wear down an opponent's defenses before destroying their base".
A second Resistance update is planned for May - which, hell, may release simultaneously here and in North America - that'll include two new maps and worldwide gameplay - i.e. everyone on the planet will be able to fight each other online.
