New for PS2:
Fighting game fans cheer for your life! As the legendary arcade hit Hokuto no Ken (aka. Fist of the North Star) is coming to your PlayStation2™. Made by the same team as Guilty Gear, this game sports some of the fastest paced action seen on a 2D fighter to date. Play as Kenshiro, Shin, Raoh, Yuda and many other characters from the Hokuto no Ken anime and manga series, and unleash their Fatal KO techniques!
Every player has a seven stars gauge that, through various attacks, can be lowered and once empty, a final "death star" will light up and the enemy player can perform a special attack that finishes of the opponent similar to the Instant Kill-moves from Guilty Gear. Unlike in Guilty Gear, where you could boost any number of times, Hokuto no Ken has a gauge that limits the number of boosts a player can perform, however, the boost is much more powerful than the one in Guilty Gear.
This game is based on the first half of the original manga (vol. 1-16) and uses the characters as they were depicted in the 1980's anime series. The voices of the playable characters are all performed by the original seiyu from the anime, with the exception of Kenshiro and Rei, who are both played by new actors.
Published by Sega, a first batch of Hokuto No Ken / Fist of the North Star for PlayStation2™ is shipping today. Just like Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+, this release has been affected by a delayed shipment. around 25% of all preorders are shipping today, more supply is likely to arrive tomorrow, available at US$ 64.90 only.

Maybe it has something to do with Phil's adorable accent, or their slightly upsetting European This is Living ads, but Sony did a number on the UK. Not only did the PS3 manage to break the record for best-selling home console launch in its weekend debut (take that, PS2!), but PS3 titles like Resistance and Motorstorm are sitting pretty at the top of UK entertainment software sales charts. Toss some free TVs into the PR mix, and things may just be looking up, but what's this?
According to BrandRepublic, "as many as 20,000 pre-orders of the £425 console [were] canceled in the run-up to its delayed launch last Friday," totaling over £10m in lost sales!

Over one-hundred and fifty thousand British folks parted with a chunk of cash to make kissy face with the PS3. Actually, it was 165,000 but who's counting... Sony is! The PLAYSTATION 3 UK was apparently a smashing success, outselling the Wii and the PS3. Apparently, it could've been more, way more. Website BrandRepublic reports that right before launch, 20,000 pre-orders were cancelled. That's not good. Says Stephen Lynne, senior promotions and partnerships manager at Virgin Megastores:
The launch of the Play-Station 3 has been a victim of its own success. There are so many available that consumers know they can get one when-ever they want.
A victim? I'm so confused! I thought British people were hoarding PS3s, that the launch was a smashing success, the greatest thing to happen to the UK since the Stone Roses played Spike Island. How can it be a victim, then? Wouldn't it mean that Sony met the demand? Nick Parker, an analyst at Screen Digest adds this:
This time next week we could be saying that the PlayStation 3 has been the most successful console launch ever.

After a series of high-profile setbacks for Take-Two Interactive, including the infamous Hot Coffee mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a stock-options scandal, and criminal charges brought against its former CEO and founder, a group of the publisher's shareholders announced earlier this month its intention to replace the current CEO and board of directors. That move appears to be imminent, as yesterday the publisher announced it doesn't expect to propose any alternative courses of action to the shareholder group's plans.
The proposed plan involves reducing the board of directors from nine to six and appointing new members of the shareholder group's choosing. The group collectively owns 46 percent of the company's stock, and its proposals are set to be voted on at the publisher's annual shareholder meeting, originally scheduled for March 23.
Take-Two initially responded to the group's proposal by postponing the annual meeting to March 29 to "provide additional time to review the proposed actions of a shareholder group and also to evaluate alternative courses of action," one of which included selling the company. Despite the success of the Grand Theft Auto series, industry analysts downplayed the possibility of a sale, noting that any interested purchaser could have acquired the company for far less last summer, when the stock was trading at half its current levels.
Today Take-Two told investors not to hold their breath on a sale. "The Board of Directors now believes that it is unlikely to present alternative courses of action prior to the annual meeting on March 29th," the publisher announced. "The company is continuing to have discussions with representatives of the shareholder group."

Burnout Dominator may have just been released on PSP and PS2, which is a great game in its own right, but our eyes are on Burnout 5, the series' debut on PS3. Little is currently known about the direction Criterion is taking the series, but in an exclusive chat with CVG, Criterion's director of design, Alex Ward, revealed some nuggets of new information.
When describing what direction Criterion is taking with Burnout 5, Ward explained, "How you use the controller is key, how you play the game online, how you use the HD Eye Toy and the 360 Vision Camera online is really important."
Little is currently known about the HD Eye Toy, but it looks like it'll make an appearance in some form in Burnout 5. At E3 in 2006 Sony began talking about the evolution of the motion-cam add-on, seemingly dubbed the 'HD Eye Toy', but little else has actually been discussed regarding the peripheral.
It has also appeared on a Sony online survey asking consumers about the kinds of peripherals they'd like to see alongside PS3 at some point in the future, but that's about it.

More info from cvg
Sony Computer Entertainment has officially revealed the sequel to last year's excellent Wipeout Pure. It's Wipeout Pulse and will be arriving on the shiny handheld later this year.
Pulse is spec'd with 24 new race tracks over seven familiar game modes, along with the addition of a new team the EG-X. There's also talk of a new Mag-Strip feature which causes your ship to be locked to the track's surface, allowing for all manor or mental loop mischief.
Series fans fearing a handheld takeover needn't get their knickers in a bunch either, as Sony has confirmed to CVG that the new handheld instalment in no way replaces the 'proper' PS3 Wipeout instalment, which has been previously discussed.
Excitingly, Pulse also promises download content including new music tracks, ships and circuits from launch - which is not to be sniffed at considering the plethora of excellent goodies supplied for Pure.
Look for Wipeout Pulse in Septmber.

The powerful processors that allow the PS3 to slap those pretty pictures all over your TV in glorious 1080p will be at the core of the new Namco arcade machines.
Namco will be ripping various parts out of Sony super console for its next line of coin-guzzlers, including the Cell microchip (the main processor), as well as the graphics card, too, according to a Reuters report.
This is the first time that Sony has allowed for the Cell chip to be used in any device other than the PS3.
Japanese newspaper, the Mainichi Daily News, also reports that Tekken 6 will be the first game to use the powerful new hardware. Let's just hope it doesn't cost £2 per credit to play, like the ridiculous (but nevertheless awesome) Afterburner Climax machine.

New press release:
Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces the forthcoming releases of VALKYRIE PROFILE®: LENNETH for the PlayStation® Portable system and VALKYRIE PROFILE 2: SILMERIA for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.
The first title in the series to be published across Europe and PAL territories VALKYRIE PROFILE: LENNETH will be released 27th April 2007 with the sequel VALKYRIE PROFILE 2: SILMERIA released late summer 2007.
Both titles are created by tri-Ace Inc., the developers behind the STAR OCEAN® series and RADIATA STORIES®.
Based upon Norse mythology, the critically acclaimed VALKYRIE PROFILE series casts you as a valkyrie, instructed by Odin to harvest souls and recruit warriors worthy of the epic struggle from Midgard, the land of humans.
John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “As two titles that are held in very high regard worldwide, we’re delighted to be bringing the VALKYRIE PROFILE series to Europe and hope for both games to enchant an entirely new audience.”
About VALKYRIE PROFILE: LENNETH
Players assume a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the largest battle in Norse Mythology. On the eve of Ragnarok, a battle between the warring factions of Aesir and Vanir, Lenneth is dispatched to the land of mortals in pursuit of worthy allies. Her mission is a crucial one that could possibly sway the tides of war in her faction's favor.
Approaching brave souls at the time of their death, Lenneth must convince these combatants to join her in the ultimate battle against evil. With time working against her, Lenneth must seek out, train and command an army of fallen soldiers in preparation for the final battle against Surt, the leader of the Vanir, while the mystery of Lenneth's identity unfolds.
Features
Special enhancements take advantage of the PSP system's capabilities — true 16:9 support and new CG sequences give players a deeper understanding of the plot and complement the game's dramatic storyline. Some of these new scenes contain links to the story of VALKYRIE PROFILE 2: SILMERIA.
Classic RPG in the palm of the hand — experience the adventure in the living room, on the road or outdoors
A heart-wrenching tale of honor, courage and purpose in the afterlife — follow the fallen heroes as they pursue honor in the next life

The Wipeout franchise is known for its notorious sense of speed, and incredible high-stakes weapons-based racing. At a European convention over the weekend, the title of the upcoming PSP sequel was supposedly revealed: Wipeout Pulse. What kind of mind-shattering courses will Studio Liverpool create for Pulse? What kind of daredevil antics will we perform as the speed (and our blood pressure) rises?
More details will be forthcoming in an official press release. Wipeout Pure is still one of PSP's best titles, and the prospect of a sequel has us already shivering with anticipation.
