Why do people insist on messing with the pixelated beauty of the 16-bit era? That's half the appeal of retro gaming.
We've got 12 screenshots from Sega's brilliant-sounding, 40-game Megadrive Ultimate Collection for PS3 and 360 - with some strange blur-o-vision effect switched on.
Make no mistake, we'll be turning that effect off in the options screen before playing anything.
"Featured games include; Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Columns, Alien Storm, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier, and cult classic, Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3," says Sega, pencilling it in for an "early 2009" release.
Screenshots are here.

Sony has stuffed the PlayStation Store with a F.E.A.R. 2 demo and plenty of other bits and bobs.
There's Episode One of the Penny Arcade Adventures series (GBP 7.99 / EUR 9.99), an American-themed question pack for Buzz! to celebrate Barack Obama's inauguration (GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99), and a Time is Money extra for Skate 2 (GBP 3.19 / EUR 3.99).
The latter unlocks all the locations, skaters and gear that would otherwise be restricted to finishing the career and online modes. Time is money. Skate 2 launches here today, and you can find our freshly-minted review elsewhere on the site.
The PS Store also offers a free fifth pack of additional content for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. Inside are four new versus events as well as an additional support character.
The PSP gets Tom Clancy's EndWar (GBP 39.99 / EUR 49.99), Riff: Everyday Shooter (GBP 6.29 / EUR 7.99) and EA Replay (GBP 15.99 / EUR 19.99), which compiles Road Rash, Desert Strike and Jungle Strike together.
There's also Super Pocket Tennis (GBP 7.99 / EUR 9.99), Disney's Action Game Featuring Hercules (GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99) and The Little Mermaid II (GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99) for the handheld.
Meanwhile, the Guitar Hero World Tour library beefs up with the Aussie Track Pack (GBP 4.39 / EUR 5.49). This boasts "Tomorrow" by Silverchair, "Dimension" by Wolfmother and "Outtathaway" by The Vines.
Rock Band, meanwhile, gets a Steve Miller Band pack for GBP 2.49. Inside are songs "Space Cowboy", "Take the Money and Run" and "The Joker".
There's a selection of individual songs on offer for GBP 0.99, too. These are "Feed the Tree" by Belly, "I Stand Alone" by Godsmack, "Wind Me Up" by Ghost Hounds, "War Zone" by Rob Zombie and "Typical" by Mute Math. Never heard of them.
All that plus new trailers for Mafia II, God of War II and Uncharted II to keep your weekend busy.

Some images have emerged of the new Café area in PlayStation Home.
Writing on the PlayStation forums, Home bossman Locust_Star described the Café as "a public space for everyone's enjoyment".
He added, "While specific events will be hosted in the Café, in the end it will be used for all the same purposes every other space in Home is - socialising with other PS3 users. That's what Home is about. But thats not to say that we can't turn it into something different if that is what the community calls for."
Locust_Star was keen to stress the Café is still a work in progress and will evolve over time, "as with all things in Home".
"BETA! BETA, BETA!" he added, clearly a big fan of the British Equestrian Trade Association.

So after quite a large gap between releases here is the latest version of Wolfenstein 3D PSP.
I promised to get a release out this week and am keeping to my word (this time ).
There is little in the way of new features in this release, it is mainly bug fixes. I always maintained the fact that I want to get the game playing as close to the original as possible before adding "custom" things to it.
All that other stuff such as the Automap feature, will be in v6.0 (the final release from me).
Here is the changelog :
- Analog Input Speed Issue Fixed.
- Fixed Incorrect Exit Messages.
- Fixed DeathCam & Death Screen. The Screen Fills Red When You Die Now.
So a small but needed changlog there. Progress is progress as they say. I wanted to get more into this release but there was a strong possibility that I would not get it done in time so I decided to just get a release out for you all like I promised.
I hope you all enjoy it

The 40GB PS3 does fully support all PS2 games and plays them without any problems. It is just not unlocked for the retail consoles. One hint for the sooner or later release of a patch which allows full software emulation is the unlocked PS2 games support in the newest debug and factory firmwares.
Here a video of a 40GB PS3 running in factory mode:

In a financial statement released today, Ubisoft confirmed that it is working on new titles in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and Assassin's Creed series.
There's no specific date set for the games' release, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the next Ghost Recon game and Assassin's Creed 2 are targeted for the company's 2009-2010 fiscal year. That means anywhere from March 2009 through February 2010.
Gamers can also expect the next installment in the Splinter Cell franchise, Splinter Cell Conviction, during that general time frame, Guillemot said. Conviction was previously announced as a Q2 2009 release.
Ubisoft also gave some guidance on the upcoming survival horror game I Am Alive, which is being developed by Darkworks. Yesterday, some gaming Web sites reported that the game is set for a March release, but Ubisoft cast doubt on that today.
"'I Am Alive' will require further development time and will now bolster the line-up for 2009-10," the company said in its financial statement.
A new game in the Anno franchise is also briefly mentioned as being scheduled for fiscal 2009-10. No details were given, but we're assuming this is the PC game Anno 1404. Ubisoft bought the RTS developer Sunflowers, which makes the Anno games, in 2007.
In addition to the recognizable franchises above, Ubisoft also plans to introduce "three new brands" during its 2009-2010 fiscal year, along with a stonger casual games lineup and four licensed games, including James Cameron's Avatar.

You may have read on the internet earlier today excited, happy reports of Resident Evil 5 somehow supporting 16 players via system link multiplayer. The evidence? None other than the game's box art itself.
Problem is, it was a typo. An innocent mistake. Capcom Europe have since rattled our mailbox to let us know:
It has been brought to our attention that the recently issued packaging for the Limited Edition version of Resident Evil 5 on Xbox 360 contains an error. It wrongly stated that the game supported 2-16 players via system link. The correct number of players supported via system link is in fact two. Please accept our apologies for this mistake and any confusion this may have caused.
We will issue final packaging shortly.

According to a retail listing on Play-Asia yes! No details were announced for the PixelJunk 3in1 Pack, but it’s easy to imagine this release, if real, is PixelJunk Racers, Monsters, and Eden on a Blu-ray disc.
Sony used a similar strategy with their downloadble PSP games in Europe by releasing PlayStation Network Power Packs. We didn’t get those so we might not get the PixelJunk 3in1 Pack in North America either. That’s not really a problem since the games are available on the PlayStation Store and if you must have a Q Games collection on physical media the PlayStation 3 is region free.

Good news and bad news. The bad news is that Media Molecule isn't delivering any LittleBigPlanet DLC today as promised. The good news is that there's plenty coming soon.
The onslaught of new garments kicks off with Chinese New Year-themed threads, followed by that previously pre-order only Kratos costume, Valentine's Day stuff and, interestingly, some WipEout costumes.
Here's the official DLC schedule:
26 January
- Chinese New Year Costumes - available for 10 days only
29 January
- God of War mini pack - Kratos, Medusa and Minotaur costumes & stickers
- Groundhog Day costume - available for 1 week only
05 February
- Valentines Day mini pack - 12 stickers & themed costumes, available for 2 weeks only
12 February
- Ape Escape Costume
- Toro Costume
19 February
- WipEout Costume Kit - costumes and stickers
Store icons with pictures of the new costumes are below.

As we're confident that you know, one of the biggest downsides to catching an event in-stadium is the inability to see instant replays. Oh sure, a few venues play back sequences for the fanatics in attendance, but you'll still get a much better angle from the comfort of your own couch. English soccer club Arsenal is hoping to remove that obstacle from fans' minds by testing out an instant replay system with Sony's PSP. In theory, at least, a Sony-developed application would enable patrons to "watch live streaming video of a game, along with data and statistics, and provide the ability to watch near-instant replays." 'Course, we've already seen Bluetooth added to venues and a similar system as this installed at Safeco Field, but we still envision this being a hit if it's really rolled out within 18 months as planned.

So I had one of these Nethack moments one evening and decided to google for an eventual PSP port.
I found a perfect Nethack port created by some good folks named Virtuamunstaz and Ivegotthepawa.
Original site:
http://www.feelthepawa.com/PSP/NetHack/
Unfortunately - the port was only made for 1.5 firmwares.
I quickly created a PSP SLIM / CFW 3.xx+ version using the eloader bridge.
Here you go, I attatched it to my post. Just unrar to PSP\GAME and enjoy.
I left the original release intact.
Thanks for your awesome job porting Nethack to PSP Virtuamunstaz / Ivegotthepawa and thank you, Eloader creators.
PS.
If you're new to nethack, I advice you read the guide included on the mentioned site.
