Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley expects PlayStation 3 to account for half of the company's business going forward. Speaking with GameDaily, Smedley expressed his belief that there's an audience for MMOs on PS3, suggesting that PSN has "great user base potential" (17 million strong these days).
Smedley believes that those playing PS3 games aren't the same ones playing MMOs. So he thinks putting MMOs on the PS3 is going to bring in new players. With diverse titles like Free Realms, DC Universe Online and The Agency in the works, maybe SOE can get something to click with the console crowd.
Monkey see, monkey do, eh? No sooner do we learn that SDHC will eventually morph into SDXC with a capacity limit of 2TB than Sony and SanDisk announce that the Memory Stick PRO / Memory Stick Micro will soon reach that same ceiling. In fact, the announcement is so new that the format doesn't even have a name (something along the lines of Extended High Capacity, probably), giving both of the formats the ability to reach 2TB on a single card. If all goes to plan, production should get going on the new formats sometime this year, so it's safe to say the race to a new top is officially on.
It's apparently not quite as far along as the newly-announced SDXC card format, but Sony and SanDisk have just announced that they're jointly developing a new Memory Stick format (tentatively dubbed the "Memory Stick format for Extended High Capacity") that'll reach the same dizzying 2TB heights as its SD counterpart. There's no more details on the format beyond that, unfortunately, but the pair has also announced that they're working on a new Memory Stick HG Micro format as well, which promises to boast a blazing 60MBps maximum data transfer speed. That's made possible, in part, thanks to a new 8-bit parallel interface with an increased 60MHz interface clock frequency. Sadly, there's no indication of a release date either of 'em, with the companies only going so far as to say that format licensing for both new formats is "scheduled to start in 2009."

Sega Japan announced today a PlayStation 2 the Best re-release version of Valkyria Chronicles. While low-priced re-releases are common in Japan, this particular release will have something extra going for it.
In addition to the base game, Sega will be bundling in the Edie Buntai Daisakusen downloadable episode. That episode was part of the first download content update for the game back in August, and cost 600 yen on its own. Together, the full game and download mission will sell for 3,990 yen, with a Japanese release for the new version planned for March 5.
Valkyria Chronicles is still relatively new in our part of the world, so talk of a budget version is pre-mature. But when it does come out, let's hope Sega includes similar bonuses so that the armies of PS3 owners who haven't tried out the game will have some incentive to do so.

How To Change The Site Order & Disable Certain Sites
----------------------------------------------------
Spoiler!
Ultimate PSPTube has a feature allowing you to change the order that the sites are
displayed in as well as selecting what sites you actually want to display. To change
the site order or stop sites from being displayed, you need to edit the config.js file
found in root folder of Ultimate PSPTube. Below is an example of the section that
contains the site order and what sites to display.
//Order Of Sites
//To not use a site just comment the line out
var site_order = [
"YouTube",
"TNAFlix",
"CrunchyRoll",
"MetaCafe",
"Yuvutu",
"Pornhub",
"MuchoSucko",
"Dailymotion",
"LiveLeak",
"MegaVideo",
"TubeIso",
"StageVu",
"Guba",
"NothingToxic",
"VidMax",
"MegaPorn",
"MyVideo",
"VBox7",
"Tudou",
"Vimeo",
"ThatVideoSite",
"MySpace Videos",
"Veoh",
"Google Video",
"xHamster",
"Wanktube",
"RedTube",
"Tube8",
"XVideos",
"Shufuni",
];
As you can see, the order of the sites in the example above goes YouTube, then TNAFlix, then
CrunchyRoll, etc. If you want to change the site order all you have to do is switch the
lines around. If you want to disable a site you can put // in front of the line
containing that site. Below is another example with a few changes.
//Order Of Sites
//To not use a site just comment the line out
var site_order = [
"YouTube",
"Dailymotion",
"Veoh",
//"TNAFlix",
"CrunchyRoll",
"MetaCafe",
"Yuvutu",
"Pornhub",
"MuchoSucko",
"LiveLeak",
"MegaVideo",
"TubeIso",
"StageVu",
//"Guba",
"NothingToxic",
"VidMax",
"MegaPorn",
"MyVideo",
"VBox7",
"Tudou",
"Vimeo",
"ThatVideoSite",
"MySpace Videos",
"Google Video",
"xHamster",
"Wanktube",
"RedTube",
"Tube8",
"XVideos",
"Shufuni",
];
Now the order of the sites in the above example goes YouTube, then Dailymotion, then
Veoh, etc. Also notice that in this example TNAFlix and Guba wouldn't be displayed in Ultimate
PSPTube because they have // in front of them.
Adult Filter
------------
Spoiler!
This will disable all adult sites when it is turned on. You can turn the adult filter
on or off by editing the config.js file found in root folder of Ultimate PSPTube. Below is the
section that you would need to edit.
//Adult Filter
//Turn this on to disable all adult sites and content
//0: Off
//1: On
PSPTube.AdultFilter = 0;
In the example above, the adult filter is turned off because it is set to 0. If you set
it to 1, the adult filter would be turned on. Please note that when adult filter is turned on,
Veoh family filter will also be turned on automatically. Adult filter is turned off by default.
Veoh Family Filter
------------------
Spoiler!
You can turn Veoh family filter on or off by editing the config.js file found in root folder of
Ultimate PSPTube. Below is the section that you would need to edit.
//Veoh Family Filter
//0: Off
//1: On
PSPTube.VeohFamilyFilter = 0;
In the example above, Veoh family filter is turned off because it is set to 0. If you set
it to 1, Veoh family filter would be turned on. It is turned off by default.
YouTube High Quality
--------------------
Spoiler!
You can turn YouTube high quality on or off by editing the config.js file found in root folder of
Ultimate PSPTube. Below is the section that you would need to edit.
//YouTube High Quality
//0: Off
//1: On
PSPTube.YouTubeHighQuality = 0;
In the example above, YouTube high quality is turned off because it is set to 0. If you set
it to 1, YouTube high quality would be turned on. It is turned off by default. When it is
turned on, the high quality video will be displayed instead of the normal
quality video if it is available.
Q. I can start the game but it just stays at a black screen.
A. Make sure you are using the latest kernel mode and not the 1.50 kernel mode. You can
change the kernel mode in the recovery menu which can be accessed by holding R1 when
you turn on your PSP.
Q. I can't start the game because it says the data is corrupted.
A. Ultimate PSPTube requires custom firmware to run. I can confirm that it works from version
3.90 M33 upwards. I haven't tested any lower firmware versions although they may still work.

In an interview with Develop, the team behind PlayStation Home has admitted that they think the virtual world was announced too early.
Game director Peter Edward said that outside developers, targeted to create third-party content for Home, became wary when they realised how far it was from completion after its announcement early in 2007.
"Initially, there was real excitement from people, because we were showing something really different and that had a lot of potential," Edward said.
"And then there's the realisation that, well, we probably announced it too early - GDC 07 was a long time ago. I think there was sort of recognition amongst developers of 'Oh, this is interesting, but there's still a lot of work to be done.'"
Home went through numerous subsequent delays, with Sony eventually succumbing to the public pressure for some kind of launch by opening its beta to all users last month - without much third-party content in place.
However, Edward is convinced things are going to get better - and today's news of EA support would seem to bear him out.
"The feedback we've been getting is that, in the early days, it was a bit thin on the ground in terms of support and tools, but now it's mature and everybody's starting to produce some really interesting stuff," Edward said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Edward and lead programmer Mitch Goodwin talk candidly about the development Home, revealing that it started life as a lobby system for The Getaway: Black Monday on PS2.
"We recently found a bit of code which had weapon pickups in it; it was legacy from back in the day when the target was very different," Goodwin said.

It's hard to believe, but Square Enix has managed to get through two years without actually opening up an official website for the Final Fantasy XIII games. Today, that all changed, with an official site for the main FFXIII, a portal site for the full Fabula Nova Crystallis series, and teaser sites for Agito and Versus.
The FFXIII site is the most developed of the three. It features lots of clickable screens showing scenes from the trailers and magazine that you might have missed out on because they were only shown or published in Japan. You can also view character profiles and get a sampling of what is presumably a track off the game's soundtrack.
There's some sad news to report, however. The "Trailers" section of the site is currently inactive. Hopefully when it does go live, it will include the latest footage that was shown at December's Jump Festa event.
As for the other sites, the Fabula Nova Crystallis portal is a bit empty right now, containing nothing more than just links to the sites for the three announced games. The Versus XIII site and Agito XIII site contain just a single piece of artwork and specs.
These sites are all, technically, for the Japanese market, but there isn't much text on them anyway, so we'd suggest that even English speakers take a look.

Following yesterday's unexpected news that EA's Godfather II will release in just two months time - despite the fact we've hardly seen anything of it - EA's put out another release to inform us that it's actually coming out sooner than that.
The crime sequel will now be released in the UK and Europe on February 27.
It's was first unveiled in August last year and we've seen little to nothing of it since.
Here's EA's official statement:
"Electronic Arts Inc. and Paramount Digital Entertainment have today confirmed that The Godfather II videogame will be released in the UK on February 27th, rather than the March date publicised previously.
"Inspired by the film and Mario Puzo's Corleone family drama, The Godfather II game goes beyond the film's story by setting players in the world of organized crime in 1960's Florida, Cuba and New York. As the head of the family, players can build a crew and grow their family in an effort to become the most powerful mob syndicate in America."

PlayStation Home, the community application released at the end of last year, has so far been downloaded by more than 3.4 million PS3 users, according to Sony, with USD 1 million worth of goods downloaded via the service.
The company also revealed that Media Molecule's PlayStation 3 exclusive, LittleBigPlanet, has sold over 1.3 million units worldwide, reports GameSpot.
During the Sony keynote address at CES, the company said that users have created over 300,000 levels for the game.
A total of 330 million pieces of content have been downloaded to date via the PlayStation Network, said Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai, with 17 million PSN account created.
The company noted that the install base of the PlayStation 3 and PSP has now reached 61.3 million units.
Later this year, the Life with PlayStation channel will be updated, although Hirai did not go into specifics. Sony also revealed a new partnership with MTV to offer video content via the PlayStation Network.

You've probably seen the news that MaTiAz and FreePlay have found an exploit in the ancient game GripShift, which works on all PSPs (including PSP3000) and up to the latest Sony 5.02 firmware.
This is great news, it's been a long time since a new game exploit was published, and it opens the way for at least user-mode homebrew on the PSP3000. Here at Noobz we saw the bat-signal calling for "someone who has experience in progressing exploits" to help out with developing this one further, and I'm glad to announce that we'll be joining forces with FreePlay and MaTiAz.
The exploit already includes an SDK to allow porting of homebrew by devs, but that's cumbersome. Our initial focus will be to make it easier to run standard homebrew via this exploit, by adapting eloader to it. This will be restricted purely to user-mode homebrew, since there is currently no public kernel-mode exploit that could be used here, and compatibility is likely to be patchy due to the security measures in the later firmwares which make determining all the syscalls almost impossible. Still, you can expect that at least some emulators and other popular pure user-mode homebrew will run.
Beyond that, if anyone finds a usable route to kernel-mode then a HEN and downgrader ought to be doable, but we're not focussing on that at this time.
Pre-announcements aren't normally the Noobz way, but in this case it seemed worthwhile to let people know, in case anyone was thinking of doing similar work. We won't predict timescales, especially as everyone is very busy at the moment and there's a fair amount of work to be done - so please don't ask.
Sounds like Sony is swinging for the fences in New York. At CES this year, Howard Stringer took the stage with Reggie Jackson to announce that the new Yankee Stadium will be pairing up with Sony to have PlayStations in every suite. While no additional details were provided based on Stringer's announcement, the partnership would more than likely follow the format of a similar attraction set up at the Washington Nationals Ballpark, which is the first of its kind.
The Sony area at the Nationals Ballpark is set up in the park's Strike Zone, which is near the Center Field Gate. According to a Sony representative, the gaming area allows attendees to participate in contests and prizes at the ballpark, and check out retail builds of Sony games at kiosks that are in the PlayStation area. While Sony's popular The Show franchise is obviously in attendance, other Sony games are present, as the Strike Zone has a SingStar Stage where audience members can get up and perform. While it is primarily a PS3 lounge, it's entirely possible that PSP games or PS2 titles can be rotated into these areas depending on the title.
We're trying to get additional information on exactly what and where the Sony/Yankee Stadium partnership will be located in the ballpark, so as soon as we receive that info, we'll pass it along.
Is the $399 price tag of the 80 GB PlayStation 3 getting you down? Not to worry – the system offers you more bang for your buck than a similar Xbox 360 or Wii setup would, according to Sony.
In a recent press release, the Sony marketing team brands the PS3 as the best deal in gaming, and blasts the Xbox 360 for being a "burden on the wallet."
"The Xbox 360 requires additional money, multiple upgrades and additional external devices," the release reads.
Comparing an 80GB PS3 at $399 and an Xbox 360 Arcade unit at USD $199, Sony makes the case that to upgrade the latter to include all the features of the former would cost USD $449 - $499. Comparing the two consoles' features, Sony says adding a wi-fi adapter ($100), hard drive ($100-$150) and an Xbox Live Gold membership ($50 a year) to the cost of an Xbox 360 Arcade would push its cost over $400.
The release did not compare Sony consoles with other Microsoft SKUs, including the Xbox 360 Elite, which comes with a 120 GB hard drive for $399 and the Xbox 360 Pro unit, which features a 60 GB hard drive for $299.
But it's not just money that you'll lose if you pick a PS3 over an Xbox 360, in Sony's estimation. In addition to your hard-earned cash, you'll also be saying goodbye to valuable living room space. Sony accuses the Xbox 360 of requiring so many add-ons that it will "add clutter to the entertainment center."
The only unique Xbox 360 add-ons that we're aware of are the now-obsolete HD-DVD peripheral and the optional wi-fi adapter, which is about the size of a pack of gum and snaps snugly onto the back of the console. All other peripherals (controllers, cables, camera, chatpad, etc.) are similar for both Sony and Microsoft consoles.
The Xbox 360 bore the brunt of Sony's derision, but the Nintendo Wii didn't escape a beating. According to Sony marketing folks, "the Wii's lack of enhanced features comes at the expense of a comprehensive entertainment solution." Ouch.
What do you think about the comparative value of the three major game consoles? Is the Xbox 360 too expensive? Is the PlayStation 3 the best deal in town? Is the Wii a comprehensive entertainment solution? Let us know in the comments section.
During Sony's Consumer Electronics Show keynote this morning, President and Group CEO Kaz Hirai gave out a whole bunch of information on what gamers could expect this year. Among those announcements was that Life With PlayStation will be getting updated. What this update will entail and when it will be coming are facts that we don't know at this point. We'll keep you updated.
At Sony's CES 2009 keynote today, Kaz Hirai has announced that Electronic Arts will be providing some new content to Home in the form of a sports-based arena filled with minigames, update tickers and other EA Sports-centric activities and information. This addition sounds very similar to what we saw in an early demo for Home where an arcade-esque sports area housed a slew of minigames such as a batting cage, soccer shooting challenge, free-throw games and so forth.
We're told that the release is slated for sometime this Spring, but keep your eyes peeled for more news as it rolls in.
Ubisoft plans to release a second wave of downloadable content for its console real-time strategy game Tom Clancy's EndWar later today.
The Faction Elite Pack will include three new battalions (one per faction) and six new upgrades (two per faction). The new forces include the JSF 15th Special Operations, the Spetsnaz Alpha Brigade, and the Enforcer Corps Battlegroup. The Faction Elite Pack will also grant immediate access to six exclusive unit upgrades including Ceramic Armor for the Spetnaz Guard Brigade and Caseless Ammunition for The European Federation's Gunships.
The pack will set you back 300 Microsoft Points ($3.75) and will be available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
While we haven't heard anything too revolutionary leap out of the confines of CES 2009, a few tidbits are beginning to emerge that might tickle PlayStation 3 owners. During a presentation at the show, Kazuo Hirai announced that MTV will be providing the PlayStation Video Store with 2,000 hours of programming. The Video Store already has a respectable amount of content to rent or purchase, but this huge chunk of video will certainly complement the shows and movies already available.
Stay tuned for more information.
Update: Shortly after Hirai made his announcement, an official press release came down the line detailing the aforementioned content. According to the release, the content will be hitting the video delivery service beginning in February and include such programs as The City, South Park and SpongeBob SquarePants. There is also a note that indicates that shows released in the Spring will be added to the PlayStation Store as they become available.
